Expert advice on coping with coronavirus anxiety at home – 9Coach
The coronavirus pandemic is the first time we have lived through a global crisis of this kind and at this scale. Feelings of anxiety understandably through the roof.
With Australia in Stage 2 of lock down, most of us are working from home and self-isolating from others, only leaving our homes when it is absolutely necessary. Most schools are closed leaving children feeling rattled.
To make matters worse, some of us have lost our jobs or are trying to live on a reduced income.
Psychologist Sandy Rea has been doing her best to alleviate some of this anxiety, advising the public of ways to care for themselves and their loved ones as we navigate fear and uncertainty.
"Many are reporting increased levels of anxiety which the otherwise would not have experienced," she tells 9Honey. "Associated with anxiety is fear... fear of the unknown, the implications of COVID-19, how long this will last, consequences financially, emotionally and being isolated. All these have become our new 'normal'."
Rea says 'anticipatory anxiety' is particularly difficult to deal with as it is based on the realisation we have "absolutely no control over the future" which can lead to "inviting concerns into the present which may or may not ever eventuate".
She says while this is manageable to a degree, it's when "catastrophising behaviours" begin that psychological intervention is needed.
"These include 'herd behaviours' like buying toilet paper when coronavirus doesn't give you gastro, irrational beliefs about how the world may end and irrational links to other deadly diseases.
"In my lifetime and many others, this is the first time where we have experienced the true impact of a pandemic i.e. where our communities are directly affected (and not just something your read about in the paper)," she says. "Every media outlet has information, 'breaking news' and updates on deaths and the spread of the disease and this contributes to the escalation of anxiety."
She says while COVID-19 will worsen anxiety in those who already suffer from it, it will also cause some to develop it.

"Some will develop a misinterpretation of minor or normal body sensations as serious disease symptoms and this is very disabling for them and they feel extreme distress about real or imagined symptoms," she says.
Rea advises that during this time that we are confined mostly to our homes with our loved ones, it's important to lean on some "go-to" mentally healthy behaviours including "good sleep, good food and good exercise".
"Each of these can be achieved at home," she says.
Rea says it's important to stick to your normal schedule.
"Do not binge-watch until 3am and then sleep until 1pm," she says. "Practice good eating habits and establish school lunch boxes for children as though they were attending school to stop them grazing throughout the day."
"In Victoria, for example, the Premier has said non-infected people can go for walks and bike rides, adhering to the 1.5 metre social distancing rule," she says.
She also recommends Australians access online exercise programs and apps.
"Follow one of these," she says. "It requires self-discipline. If you have a pet go outside and play for a while or take it for a walk. Pick up the phone and talk. Use family apps and Skype.
"Consider how you can help others and step outside of yourself," she says.
In the event the crisis worsens and Stage 3 lock down comes into play, Rea says it is "critical" to remember that life is about coping with change, "being flexible" and "adaptive".
"These are critical skills we need to instil in our children," she says. "When there are 'hiccups' during our week, we manage these through developing 'coping behaviours'. The opposite to these are developing 'acopic' behaviours - catastrophising, anticipatory anxiety, panic buying - which is poor role-modelling for our children"
Rea says building resilience in our children during this trying time will serve them in the future.
"Emotions often impair our perceptions of risks when in highly emotional states we interpret things in a threatening way this decreases our ability to self-soothe," she says. "So follow the protocol and advice. This should give comfort"
And she suggests making the most of your time at home and with your kids.
"Change the narrative from threatening to opportunity," she says. "For parents who normally work, here is a great time to share some time with my children.
"My mantra is 'BE COMPLIANT NOT DEFIANT!!'"
Sandy Rea will be hosting a free 'webinar' on April 1 about coping with coronavirus stress and anxiety at 11am AEST.

Detox vs Rehab: What’s the Difference? – WRCB-TV
Medically supervised detox programs offer many benefits including the 24/7 care of medical personnel and a safe and comfortable environment free from distractions and negative influences. Detoxing can be very dangerous because your body is dependent on the addictive substance and when that substance is no longer available the body will go through withdrawal symptoms that depending on the addictive substance, can range from mildly uncomfortable, to significantly painful and even severe or life threatening. For example, withdrawal symptoms for alcohol or benzoid addictions often tend to be the most severe and one article in the journal Alcohol Health and Research World reported that about 10 percent of people with alcoholism may have serious medical problems during withdrawal including the potential for seizures. Other substances such as opioids may have slightly less severe symptoms but detox from these substances may come with very severe cravings that are difficult to manage alone. Symptoms vary by individual and some may experience much less severe, but still uncomfortable and even painful symptoms such as nausea, hallucinations, anxiety, depression, sleep disruptions, and changes in heart rate or blood pressure.

DeWine has encouraged people to get outside as individuals, it is still imperative that people refrain from gathering in large groups, even outside," said Executive Director Kim Kenney. Coronavirus disrupting your workout routine? Here’s how to take up jogging safely – The Globe and Mail
A runner passes an empty Place Jacques Cartier on March 25, 2020, in Montreal.
Ryan Remiorz/The Canadian Press
Theres a scene in the 2004 movie Anchorman where our hero, dimwitted-but-loveable 1970s newsman Ron Burgundy (played by Will Ferrell), explains to his colleagues that he wont be able to attend this weeks team pancake breakfast.
I wont be able to make it, fellas. Veronica and I are trying this new fad called jogging. I believe its jogging, or yogging. It might be a soft J, Im not sure. But apparently you just run for an extended period of time.
Ive been thinking of this scene a lot over the past week. Without access to treadmills or spin classes because of the coronavirus pandemic and social-distancing efforts across the country, cardio junkies have had to turn to this newfangled form of exercise, this yogging, to get their endorphin fix.

This is a good thing. Running is an inexpensive and practical way to keep the heart and lungs healthy. Combine that with the mental benefits of simply being outside especially during periods of prolonged indoor isolation and its no wonder the streets and sidewalks are seeing lots of foot traffic these days. Just be sure when youre outside to respect the guideline to stay six feet away from other people.
As coronavirus shutters gyms, its important to develop an at-home workout routine
Under normal circumstances, Id recommend anyone whos new to running join a local running group so you can learn the basics from trained experts. But these are not normal circumstances, so instead check out the Running Rooms online coaching programs for runners and walkers and read on for more tips.
A common misconception is that running is an innate skill. We know how to walk, therefore we know how to run. This is not the case. Running is not walking quickly. Learning proper running technique takes time, attention to detail and practice. It also takes the right pair of shoes. The American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) has helpful information online for determining which type of running shoe is right for your unique foot structure, as well as which brands get their seal of approval.
One of the biggest knocks against cardio training is that it can get boring fast. Not everyone is wired the same way; for some, a steady 40-minute jog can be mental torture, while others thrive off the challenge. Apps like Strava can help keep things fun: Your phone tracks your route and performance using GPS data so you can analyze your progress and share runs with your social networks. The app can also suggest routes based on all that collected data just dial-in the distance youre aiming for and Strava will determine the best routes near you.
Despite Ron Burgundys reputation for journalistic excellence, he got it wrong about running. I mean, you could just run for an extended period of time with no real goal in mind, but thats not going to deliver much in the way of results. Cardio training is no different than strength training it has to be structured in a progressive manner using specific methods. The two most practical methods are:
Of course, you can apply either of these methods to just about any form of exercise, from biking or skipping to walking or rollerblading.
Running requires a fair degree of technical nuance. Its important to step lightly. That thudding sound you hear when your feet hit the asphalt? Thats the sound of your knees dying. And take it easy on the mileage at first; long-distance running is taxing on the body, and the longer you run, the harder it is to maintain proper form.

PricewaterhouseCoopers AB has informed INVISIO Communications that they will appoint the authorised public accountant Mats kerlund as auditor-in-charge if PricewaterhouseCoopers AB is re-elected as auditor.
Approval of the procedure of the nomination committee (item 15)
A nomination committee shall be appointed for a term of office ending when a new nomination committee is appointed for preparation and submission of proposals to the shareholders at the Annual General Meeting regarding:
The nomination committee shall consist of four members, who shall be appointed in accordance with the following:
The nomination committee in INVISIO Communications has to consider the interests of all shareholders and ensure a professional preparation of a number of important issues concerning the board work in the company, to be resolved on by the general meeting. Three members of the nomination committee shall normally be appointed by the three largest shareholders of the company and the fourth shall be the Chairman of the board.
The Chairman of the board shall, before the next Annual General Meeting, contact the three largest shareholders in the company on the basis of ownership information as of August 31, and summon to a first meeting with the nomination committee no later than seven months before the Annual General Meeting.
If any of the largest shareholders refrains from appointing a member of the nomination committee, the Chairman of the board shall request the owner who is next in size to appoint a member. The analysis of the ownership shall be based on Euroclear's list of registered shareholders and on any other circumstances known by the Chairman of the board. If a member voluntarily resigns from the nomination committee, the shareholder that appointed the resigning member shall in such case be asked to appoint a new member, provided that the ownership structure has not significantly changed.
If the ownership structure in the company has significantly changed, the nomination committee may choose to change its composition so that the nomination committee adequately reflects the ownership structure in the company. Even if there are changes in the ownership structure, no changes have to be done to the composition of the nomination committee if the changes are minor or a change occurs less than three months prior to an Annual General Meeting, if it is not motivated due to special circumstances.
The Chairman of the nomination committee is the member who represents the largest shareholder in terms of votes, if the members have not agreed otherwise. The Chairman of the board or another member of the board may however not be the Chairman of the nomination committee.
The nomination committee is encouraged to contact both larger shareholders, which have not appointed a member of the nomination committee, and representatives for minor shareholders, in order to determine their views on the concerns of the nomination committee.
No remuneration will be paid to the members of the nomination committee. The nomination committee has however a right to request that the company pays for reasonable costs, such as costs for recruitment consultants, if it is considered necessary in order to find a suitable selection of candidates for the board.
This instruction for the nomination committee is valid until a future general meeting resolves to change it.

opportunity to participate in long-term share- or share price-related incentive plans, and
pension and other benefits.
Fixed salary
The fixed salary to the senior executives is revised annually and shall be competitive and based on the individual's competence, responsibility and performance.
Variable remuneration
The variable cash remuneration to the senior executives shall be based on how well the targets set for their respective area of responsibility, INVISIO Communications and its subsidiaries are met. The result shall be linked to measurable targets (qualitative, quantitative, general and individual). The target components, weighting and target levels may vary from one year to the next to reflect business priorities and they generally balance the group's financial targets and non-financial targets (for example operational, strategic, environmental, social or other targets related to sustainability). The measurement period for variable remuneration shall, as a general rule, be based on performance over a period of approximately twelve months. The targets within each senior executive's respective area of responsibility aims to encourage the development of INVISIO Communications both on a short and a long-term basis.
To which extent the criteria for awarding variable cash remuneration has been satisfied shall be evaluated/determined when the measurement period has ended. The remuneration committee is responsible for the evaluation regarding variable cash remuneration to senior executives. The board is entitled to disregard the fulfillment of the criteria and adjust the payment of variable remuneration both upwards and downwards based on actual progress during the year. Additional cash variable remuneration may be paid in exceptional circumstances, provided that such extraordinary arrangements are made only at an individual level as compensation for extraordinary work in addition to the person's ordinary duties. The total variable remuneration shall not exceed 60 per cent of the fixed salary and shall, to the extent permitted by applicable law, not affect pension or holiday allowance.
Share- and share price-related incentive programs
The general meeting may, irrespective of these guidelines, resolve on share- and share price-related incentive programs to senior executives, i.e. the management of the company.
The Annual General Meetings 2018 and 2019 resolved on adopting stock option programs. The programs have been resolved by the general meeting and are therefore excluded from these guidelines. The stock option program proposed by the board at this Annual General Meeting 2020 is also excluded for the same reason. The proposed program essentially corresponds to existing programs. The objective of the stock option programs is to link a portion of the employees' remuneration to the long-term performance of INVISIO Communications, and thereby align their interests with those of the shareholders. For additional information regarding incentive programs including the criteria on which the outcome is depended on, please see INVISIO Communications' website http://www.invisio.com.
Pension and other benefits
Any pension benefit of the senior executives shall be based on defined contribution pension plans and comply with or correspond to, and therefore be limited to, general pension plans, the ITP plan in Sweden. For employments governed by rules other than Swedish, pension benefits and other benefits may be duly adjusted for compliance with mandatory rules or established local practice, taking into account, to the extent possible, the overall purpose of these guidelines.
Senior executives' non-monetary benefits shall facilitate the work of senior executives and correspond to what may be deemed reasonable in relation to standard practice on the market in which each senior executive operates.
Termination of employment
The CEO has a period of notice of twelve months when termination is made by the company and of eight months when termination is made by the CEO. Other senior executives have a period of notice of six months when termination is made by the company and of three months when termination is made by the senior executive himself/herself.No severance pay is payable upon termination, only salary during the notice period.
Salary and employment conditions for employees
In the preparation of the board's proposal for these remuneration guidelines, salary and employment conditions for employees of the company have been taken into account by including information on the employees' total income, the components of the remuneration and increase and growth rate over time, in the remuneration committee's and the board's basis of decision when evaluating whether the guidelines and the limitations set out herein are reasonable.
Remuneration to board members in addition to board remunerations decided by thegeneral meeting
Elected board members shall in specific cases be able to receive a fee for services within their respective area of expertise which does not constitute board work. For such services shall be paid a market based fee, which shall be approved by the board. These guidelines are applicable on such fees.
The decision-making process to determine, review and implement the guidelines
The board has established a remuneration committee. The committee's tasks include preparing the board' decision to propose guidelines for remuneration to senior executives and any decision to derogate from the guidelines. The board shall prepare a proposal for new guidelines at least every fourth year and submit it to the Annual General Meeting. The guidelines shall be in force until new guidelines are adopted by the general meeting. The remuneration committee shall also monitor and evaluate programs for variable remuneration for the executive management, the application of the guidelines for remuneration to senior executives as well as the current remuneration structures and compensation levels in the company. The members of the remuneration committee are independent of the company and its executive management. The CEO and other members of the executive management do not participate in the board' processing of and resolutions regarding remuneration-related matters in so far as they are affected by such matters.
Deviations from the guidelines
The board is entitled to deviate, in whole or in part, from the guidelines for remuneration to senior executives set out above if it determines that there are specific reasons in an individual case and a derogation is necessary to serve the company's long-term interests, including its sustainability, or to ensure the company's financial viability. If such a deviation takes place, it shall be disclosed in the remuneration report before the following Annual General Meeting.
Resolution regarding adoption of a stock option program, issuance of stock options and transfer of stock options (item 17)
The board proposes that the Annual General Meeting resolves on a long-term, share based, incentive program in accordance with items A.-C. (the "Stock Option Program 2020/2023"), which materially has the same structure as the stock option programs adopted by the Annual General Meeting in 2018 ("Stock Option Program 2018/2021") and the Annual General Meeting 2019 ("Stock Option Program 2019/2022").
The objective of the Stock Option Program 2020/2023 is to link a portion of the employees' remuneration to INVISIO's long-term performance and value creation for the shareholders. Thereby the long-term interests of the employees aligns with the interests of the shareholders. In addition, the Stock Option Program 2020/2023 will be an important tool for INVISIO to recruit, retain and motivate the company's employees and the board considers the program beneficial for both INVISIO and its shareholders in the coming years. Board members elected by the general meeting are not allowed to participate in the Stock Option Program 2020/2023.
A. ADOPTION OF THE PROGRAM
1. The Stock Option Program 2020/2023 in brief
All INVISIO group employees shall be entitled to participate in the Stock Option Program 2020/2023.
Based on performance, position and the employee's importance to the INVISIO group, the employees will be granted stock options which entitle the participants to acquire shares in INVISIO during 2023, subject to the terms and conditions of the Stock Option Program 2020/2023 (the "Stock Options"). If the participant (i) throughout the entire vesting period of the Stock Option Program 2020/2023, which runs from the allotment of the Stock Option up to and including 9 May 2023 (the "Vesting Period"), with certain exceptions, is employed by the INVISIO group and (ii) to the extent the performance based criteria for the Stock Options has been reached during 7 May 2020 - 9 May 2023 (the "Measurement Period"), the participants will be entitled to acquire shares in INVISIO during May - June 2023.
To ensure INVISIO's undertaking to deliver shares to the participants in the Stock Option Program 2020/2023, the board proposes that the Annual General Meeting resolves to issue a maximum of 700,000 warrants (each warrant entitle to subscription for one (1) share in INVISIO) to a wholly-owned Danish subsidiary, INVISIO Communications A/S (the "Subsidiary"). To such extent the performance criteria of the Stock Option Program 2020/2023 is reached, the warrants shall be exercised to deliver shares in INVISIO to the participants in the Stock Option Program 2020/2023.
2. Costs
Pursuant to IFRS 2, the Stock Options are to be recorded as a personnel expense during the Vesting Period and should be reported directly against equity. Based on the assumption of a share price of SEK 133.20 at the time of allotment and calculated by using the Black & Scholes and Monte Carlo methods, the estimated total reported cost for the Stock Options is approx. SEK 9.8 million for the period 2020-2023.
In the event of a positive price trend, social security costs will arise due to the Stock Options. These costs shall be written off during the tenor of the Stock Options based on the value changes of the Stock Options.
Based on the assumption that all 700,000 Stock Options will be exercised to acquire new shares in INVISIO on 15 May 2023, and the INVISIO share price outperforms the SIXPRX Index (see definition below in item 5.5) by 20 percentage points during the Vesting Period, the social security costs are estimated to be approx. SEK 0.8 million. The costs are continuously reviewed during the Vesting Period.

Colorado Stay-At-Home Order Explained: What Will And Wont Be Open – CBS Denver
(CBS4) On Wednesday, Gov. Jared Polis announced an executive order for Coloradans to stay at home in order to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. The stay-at-home order will go into effect Thursday at 6 a.m. and will last through Saturday, April 11.
The stay-at-home order is mandatory and includes the entire state. It requires people to remain in their homes unless they are going to and from work in a critical industry or doing an essential task like going to the grocery store or walking a pet.
Playgrounds and picnic areas will be closed but many local parks and outdoor spaces will remain open for outdoor exercise. People who choose to exercise outdoors should continue practicing social distancing by staying at least 6 feet away from other people.
The statewide order allows people to travel to outdoor areas for hiking and exercise. However, residents should check with their local health department to see if there are additional restrictions. For instance, Denvers health order prohibits residents from traveling to neighboring communities or the mountains for recreation.

Houses of worship may remain open, but must practice social distancing or use electronic platforms. Pastoral services may also continue for individuals who are in crisis or need end-of-life services.
Schools can continue to provide free food services for students on a pick-up and take-home basis. Public and private schools, including postsecondary institutions, may provide essential functions such as security, medical and mental health service, housing, food service and critical research, provided that social distancing requirements are observed.
Licensed child care will remain open for essential workers. For urgent child care needs, contact 2-1-1.
Roads will not close in Colorado. Officials say public transportation and ridesharing should be used for essential travel only. When possible, residents are asked to walk or drive themselves. According to the order, planes and other forms of travel should only be used if absolutely necessary.

‘Everyone has risen to the occasion’ – The Jewish Standard
The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly has a multilayered name.
Its got highly specific components on both sides of its core.
It begins with Kaplen. Thats for Bill (more formally Wilson, but he was Bill) and Maggie Kaplan; he was one of the institutions founders, and together they nurtured it and supported it, eventually becoming so basic to it that it took on their name.

It ends with the Palisades. Thats the very local, breathtaking cliff, the national historic landmark that guards the west bank of the Hudson. The JCC is very close to it.
The Kaplens and the Palisades are safeguarding the jewel between them. Thats the JCC, the Jewish community center. Like shuls and schools but for everyone, people of all ages, of every religious stream and none at all JCCs are at the heart of the community.
So what happens when a viral threat forces a JCC to close?
It closes the building, but it doesnt stop doing what it does. It doesnt stop being itself.
The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades has gone online.
Every crisis of course is inherently different from all other crises in some ways, but this one is particularly unusual, the JCCs CEO, Jordan Shenker, said. Usually a crisis hits some people but not others; the farther you move from its center, the less its felt. Everyone feels this one. You dont have to explain.
Everyone understands that this is a new reality, and everyone is experiencing it in a very personal way, Mr. Shenker said. There is no need for a contextual conversation about whats going on. And theres also an appreciation for whatever anyone can do. There is a real desire for people to cling to optimism and hope and connection in a way that is really unique to our time.
The JCCs staff very much wants to continue to offer connection and hope. Thats easy to say, but there are many highly practical issues to overcome. We are a very large and complex institution, so moving on a dime is not something we typically do, Mr. Shenker said. But over the past week, I have been inspired by the creativity, innovation, and commitment of our staff, as we think differently about how we can engage, connect, and build community.
Childrens musician Matty Roxx in real life, Matt Krass performs life from his home in New City for the JCC.Kaplen JCC on the Palisades.
The early childhood program has gone online. The kids cannot go to school, but I have seen videos of a child, sitting in a child-sized chair, looking at a computer screen with 16 images on it, looking at every other child in his classroom, and they and the teacher are doing an activity in real time. Thats building community, and its beautiful.
There are different kinds of technology available, and an art to choosing which to use when.
Our exercise classes are being taught on Zoom, not on Facebook live. That means that everyone on the screen can interact with everyone else. We might be the only vendor in the area who offers exercise programming online now, Mr. Shenker said. The way were doing it, its not just about being in an exercise class. Its also about being part of the community.
Its not just about delivering a yoga class. Its not just about the yoga. Its also about the relationship between the student and teacher. Its also about the relationships between the students in the class.
There might in fact be an advantage to offering classes on Zoom; when you use that platform, you can choose whether or not to turn on your microphone or your camera. People can see that youre on because it shows your name, but nothing else. Some of our staff have hypothesized that we may get greater participation because of the reduced barrier to entry, Mr. Shenker said. I dont have to get into my car. I dont have to shlep anywhere. And of course you dont have to let anybody see what you look like when you try to work out.
The JCC now is online with the music, dance, drama, early childhood, fitness, senior adult, special services, and adult services department. All we are not doing is basketball and swimming, and even the athletics and aquatics people are putting some exercises out, for when people can get back, Mr. Shenker said.
And users dont have to pay for fitness or arts and culture programs.
It is free and open to the public, Mr. Shenker said. We are happy to have everyone participate.
Its all part of community building.
I have a deep appreciation for the outpouring of support from this community, he continued. People are asking, How can I support it? How can I be part of it? I am moved that folks called to ask what they can do.
One thing that everyone can do is learn from this experience, he suggested.
What we are trying to do now is reimagine what virtual community-building looks like, and to a large extent we are making it up, day by day, Mr. Shenker concluded. We are learning to pivot, change, rinse, and repeat, and we will be doing it for at least the next several weeks and it looks like it might be for the next several months.
Sisters at home learn from their teacher online.Kaplen JCC on the palisades
One of the ways that I feel optimistic is that we will come out of this we as a society, we as a community, we as an institution knowing more how we can engage people beyond our walls far more effectively than we ever knew that we could before we had to close. That is a powerful reality that we will have when this is behind us.
One of the departments thats kept going online is senior adult services. We are specifically geared for older seniors who want to remain at home and age in place, its director, Judi Nahary, said. During normal times, we provide all the resources that make it possible transportation, breakfast, lunch, entertainment, music, educational programming, lectures, intergenerational activities, and preventative health programming.
We have three programs the senior activity center, for people who are older and need some assistance, they might be isolated or no longer able to drive, but cognitively they are fine. Theres the Club, for people with the beginning stages of cognitive decline. And then ARC, the senior adult reach center, for the middle to late stages of dementia.
The senior adult department offers 24 clubs, which are designed to enhance the seniors sense of purpose, Ms. Nahary said; they center around such things as art and music and finance, and are adjusted depending on specific peoples interests. To get people engaged you have to give them what interests them, she said; engagement can stave off decline. The department usually has about 80 to 90 unique participants during the course of each week, she added.
So now there are all these frail, declining, memory-impaired elderly people at home, with caregivers who are not prepared to help them as intensively as would be ideal. What to do?
Go online!
The JCC is beginning to offer some of the clubs to seniors, through Zoom, and it is also stepping up its programming to caregivers something it has provided for some time.
We looked at everything we can offer, to see what we can do, Ms. Nahary said. We have five caregiver support groups and a memory caf every week. Our instinct is that the caregivers need it even more now. They need some outlet, and they can get ideas from each other.
I really worry about caregivers, she continued. It is overwhelmingly taxing, physically and emotionally draining for them. We want to continue to provide some respite for them. We also are worried about seniors being isolated. The less engaged they are, the more quickly they decline. If we can continue to be engaged with them, we can provide some stimulation.
The senior center has what it calls a grandfriend program; it matches its members with early childhood classes. Its continuing that program online, along with the clubs.
Caregivers can help their elderly charges with the technology. We are working with them, Ms. Nahary said. The first call always is the hardest. And it doesnt work for everyone; for one example among many, older people often suffer from macular degeneration, which makes it hard for them to see images on a screen.
The JCC helps provide physical help as well. Volunteers will deliver meals on wheels for seniors who do not have resources at home, Ms. Nahary said, and even those seniors who do not need meals delivered every day will get Shabbat dinners.
Like Mr. Shenker, Ms. Nahary sees some good coming out of this very hard time.
The majority of the staff has had to challenge themselves technologically, she said. That is one of the most amazing things. People who normally would have been unwilling to try new things are forcing themselves to do it, because it is the only way to do it.
Everyone has risen to the occasion.

Coronavirus has closed the gyms, but are running, walking and cycling still safe exercise options? – ABC News
The gyms are now closed.
They, and other indoor sporting venues, shut their doors midday local time on Monday, after the state and Federal governments' coronavirus shutdown.
So how can you stay safe AND active right now.
If you're not self-isolating or unwell, the experts agree you and your family can still go outside to exercise at this stage.
But you must practise social distancing, keep up good hygiene practices, and wash your hands when you get home.
This advice may change in the event of widespread community transmission of this coronavirus, said Adam Kamradt-Scott, an expert in the spread and control of infectious diseases at the University of Sydney.
So walking, cycling and running are still on the menu, as are outdoor sports like golf and tennis although you'll likely find your local golf course or tennis club will have implemented extra hygiene measures to abide by.
Many public swimming pools have closed as they're part of larger leisure centres, and some Sydney councils have even closed beaches after crowds flouted social distancing guidelines over the weekend.
"We know that exercising in the outdoors has added health benefits for people," said Carol Maher who researches physical activity and health at the University of South Australia.
Going for a run is also a great way of incorporating some high intensity interval training into your exercise routine, said sports physiotherapist Kusal Goonewardena.
Do one minute of normal pace running, 30 seconds where you're sprinting, and then reduce your speed to a jog again for another minute.
"When you break up the exercises into those intensities, the body really likes it," he said.
"And we have found research wise that you probably only need to do about six to 10 minutes to get the effect of a half an hour exercise, which is very powerful."
More than ever we're going to have to make a concerted effort to be physically active, because these shutdown measures are taking the natural activity out of our days, Dr Maher said.
She recommendsplanning how you're going to get physical activity each dayto make sure you don't get really sedentary during the shutdown, which could be in place for months.
"It's really important to have a routine, even if you're working from home," she said, because we know that people who do better and have higher levels of wellbeing tend to have quite routine lifestyles.
"They'll get up at a particular time and build structure into their day, even if it's not kind of being imposed on us by the usual things of needing to be in the office by a particular time or having the kids at school.
"I'd definitely encourage people to actually create themselves a routine that builds in time for exercise, it's really important for mental health as well as physical health."
Not only can regular physical activity help us deal with the stress and anxiety many of us are feeling, having a strong routine that we're committed to can also keep us motivated during the long months ahead.
Now is also the time to start upping your exercise routine at home.
For kids that can be playing in the backyard, for adults there are lots of apps and online workouts, like on YouTube, that offer everything from high intensity interval training to yoga, Dr Maher said.
Mr Goonewardena suggests beginning with some simple exercises that address one of the problems caused by too much sitting in front of our computers or other devices.
"Sedentary postures cause a few things, one is inactivity of the spine. But there's a tremendous effect of that on mood," he said.
First thing in the morning after you wake up, do some arm swings.
This is where you're standing facing forward but swinging your arms left to right to rotate your spine.
After that, do some side bends.
"The human spine is designed to move forward and backwards, rotate, and also bend sideways," Mr Goonewardena said, "in sedentary postures, those two aspects are missed."
"So you start off by creating movement in those areas, and you only have to do about 20 to 30 reps at the start of the day, but then during the day as well."
From there, you can incorporate some strength training into your home exercise routine by using your own body weight.
"The amount of resistance you can create with your own body, when you think laterally and creatively is tremendous," Mr Goonewardena said.
For example, doing push-ups, squats and calf raises is a wonderful way of building those anti-gravity muscles, and you're continuing to work your legs, arms and shoulders, he said.
Add more resistance by utilising things around the house.
"A typical example is if you're lifting a carton of milk which is one litre, that's approximately one kilogram," Mr Goonewardena said.
If you have a sofa, using the top of the sofa to do push-ups against so you're slightly tilted instead of doing them on the ground still works your upper body.
If you can't do what you would normally do exercise wise, there are lots of opportunities to substitute that with other things that are just as healthy, Dr Maher said.
"You could go out and actually focus on your fitness for a while where you're doing high intensity interval training," she said.
"Or for children if they really can't now play their sports, they could work on their skill development. My boys are working on their soccer juggling skills."
And if you're using to working out with a friend, there's nothing stopping you from having a virtual exercise session together using Skype, FaceTime or another video conferencing platform to make it fun and keep yourself accountable.
"If there's one thing I would suggest people do at home, it would be to dance," Mr Goonewardena said.
"When you put some good music on music that you love and you can dance to you're then utilising different body parts in the right way all the nerves, muscles, joints and ligaments all align in a proper way."
Which can be a great way to break up your Netflix binge sessions.
Now's also the perfect time to get more physically active because we've got more time, Dr Maher said.
"We're saving all this time from commuting and other activities that are now closing down, so it actually does free up some time to devote to exercise."
