Younkin and Gaddy will lead the advanced level workouts with exercises based on physical training in the military.
LORAIN A local fitness instructor wants Lorainites to get in shape on the shores of the Black River.
Faithfully Fit Group Fitness Center and the Lorain Port Authority have joined to create Get Fit Lorain! an outdoor fitness camp that will take place Saturday mornings at the south end of the Black River Landing. The program will begin 8 a.m. Aug. 4 and continue Saturdays into September or October, as long as the weather is nice.
Hopefully, this will be the first program of many, said Kristie Duffy, who operates Faithfully Fit at 610 Broadway. And hopefully we can utilize the outdoors and come together because its so much more fun when youre working out together.
It is a nice fit for the Lorain Port Authority because its board has wanted to incorporate physical fitness at the Black River Landing, said Ralph Bruening, facilities manager and special events coordinator for the port.
The site also is a beautiful site for a Saturday morning workout, he said.
Weve got eight acres, Bruening said. You can put a lot of people in eight acres.
The programs will offer three levels of training with beginner and intermediate workouts, led by Duffy and Norene Bohannon, who has an associates degree in sports fitness management from Lorain County Community College. They will guide participants in aerobics and walking around the site.

By Sean Cochran, Golf Fitness
Mobility and flexibility are terms associated with the execution of an efficient golf swing. We are well aware the modern day swing requires the golfer to draw the club through a large range of motion during the backswing, downswing, and into the finish position.
In order for the golfer to achieve this requirement of the golf swing, certain levels of joint mobility and muscular flexibility are needed within the body. If the golfer is lacking these physical components, the ability to execute a proficient golf swing can easily be limited thus resulting in the development of compensation patterns in order to overcome these physical limitations.
A biomechanical analysis of the golf swing indicates certain segments (i.e. joints) of the body must be mobile in order execute a proficient golf swing. In general, the ankle, hips, thoracic spine (area between the shoulder blades), shoulder, and wrist require operation through a large range of motion to execute the athletic actions associated with the golf swing.
Two very common areas of limited mobility affecting the golf swing are the hips and thoracic spine. Both of these segments of the body are integral in executing the rotary components in the backswing and downswing. That being said, limitations in either the hips or thoracic spine can easily limit a golfers ability to efficiently rotate.
Two very good golf fitness exercises to assist in developing mobility in the hips and thoracic spine are Stork Turns and Kneeling Club Rotations. Stork turns are a dynamic mobility exercise addressing the hips where as Kneeling Club Rotations focus on the rotary aspects of the thoracic spine.
fitness2Stork Turns (Hip Mobility and Separation) stand perpendicular to a wall, post, cable column, or golf club, feet closer than shoulder width, torso upright, and hands on wall. Hook the right foot behind the knee of the left leg.
Slowly rotate the hips left and right while keeping the shoulders parallel. Increase the speed of the hip rotation as you become comfortable with the exercise. Perform 10-15 repetitions and repeat the exercise with the left foot hooked behind the right knee. Keep your foot planted firmly on the floor and shoulders stationary throughout the entire exercise.
fitness1Kneeling Club Rotations (Thoracic Spine Mobility) position the lower body in a kneeling position with the right knee in contact with the floor. Grasp a golf club or dowel rod with both hands and extend the arms straight overhead. Position the torso upright with the eyes looking forward.
Slowly rotate the upper body to the right while keeping the arms overhead. Rotate as far as possible the right while keeping the torso upright and arms overhead. Pause slightly at the end point of the rotation and repeat to the left. Alternate rotating left and right for 10 repetitions and repeat the exercise sequence with the left knee in contact with the floor. Keep the arms extended overhead throughout the entire exercise.

Fitness plans at old Accrington church
2:30pm Wednesday 25th July 2012 in News By Emma Cruces, Reporter
A MAJOR fitness firm is looking to transform an historic town centre church into a gym.
Premier Fitness has put in plans to transform the crumbling Cannon Street Baptist Church, Accringon into a major town centre fitness hub.
The landmark church, which is a listed building, has long been a problem for both Hyndburn Council and the owners Y&Y developments.
The owners have been ordered to tidy up the building, through court orders, because of the broken windows, missing metalwork and crumbling stonework of the church.
Hyndburn Council was insistent the building was an eyesore, both its frontage on Cannon Street, and at the rear of the building opposite Tesco and Accr-ington Train Station.
However, Y&Y Developments said the empty building was constantly being targeted by vandals while they looked for an interested party in transforming it into a practical use for the area.
The Grade II listed building, which dates back to 1874, has been empty since 2006.
Premier Fitness are said to have submitted the planning bid while having talks with Y&Y Developments on buying the property.

Personal Experience: Fitness First Personal Trainer Gets Progressively More Difficult
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/caticon.gif)
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/comicon.gif)
I first tried out Fitness First Personal Trainer for the Wii by rented it for a few weeks. After that time, it seemed to be the sort of thing I was looking for. What I liked was it didn't need any special equipment, and the workouts were quick and easy to do.
Therefore, I decided to invest in the product. Unfortunately, my saved data did not transfer across when I inserted the new disc. This was a little bit puzzling at the time, because I always thought the data was saved on the hard drive. But it appears it is somehow linked to the individual game disc.
So, I had to start again by entering all my crucial information, setting my goals and targets, and selecting my style of workout. This information generally remained the same, as I was happy with the program I was previously on.
For the first few weeks, things pretty much stayed the same as they were. In truth, this is probably the way it stays if you play the game relatively infrequently. However, it is fairly clear that the game is designed to be used on a daily basis.
The fundamental problem with this, though, is the more you use it, the harder it gets. In a way this makes sense, because the game is allowing those that are serious to receive the maximum benefits. And any personal trainer would recommend changing your workouts every so often to continue to see results.
But the problem is that Fitness First Personal Trainer does not offer any indication that this is about to happen. Yes, I want a challenging workout that will bring results, but I also only have a limiting amount of time.
Working from home brings various benefits, but it does mean that my place of rest, sleep, and work are all at the same location. Therefore, I do find myself working throughout the day, afternoon, evening, and night.
Those who work elsewhere often come home to rest, but those of us that continue to work need a workout solution, which produces results, but is also time efficient. This is because we are often taking a break from our work, rather than doing it after work.
Moving forward I will have to decide if Fitness First Personal Trainer is the best solution. Fortunately, the game does make some accommodations for those with limited time. First of all, the intense, lengthy workouts only seem to happen every other day.
Then, there is the option of express workouts that are supposed to be the same as the full workouts but have less reps, so can be completed in a shorter time. Clearly, in theory, this is a good idea, but the problem is it makes you feel that you're not completing a proper workout.

The facility was designed and built by John McCaffrey. It boasts luxurious lockers rooms, an infrared sauna, group exercise, Spinning, massage therapy, nutrition services and a juice bar fully stocked with water, sports drinks and a variety of fantastic protein smoothies for which they are known. New members may have up to three complimentary sessions (depending upon the membership they choose). McCaffrey says the benefits of a trainer include holding clients accountable for their daily and weekly goals including eating habits, weight loss, strength and endurance. "People are good at doing the same thing; we are creatures of habit," Hoekstra warns. "We get comfortable doing what we know how to do, and we can get 'stuck' doing the same things time after time. Eventually, without the help of a trainer, we plateau."This is where the assistance of a trainer can be invaluable. She says some clients have been using the same trainer for over 10 years. "Even when you know what you are doing, working with a trainer brings so much more to your workouts." "We hire [our trainers] for their expertise personalities," McCaffrey says. All of Devon Fitness' personal trainers are certified and some carry specialized degrees in sport-specific training. Each trainer has his or her own motivation for doing what they do; some have a military background, while others compete in marathons or coach team sports. Devon Fitness does its best to match each client with the trainer best qualified for one's specific needs. "The client's goal is the trainer's mission," Hoekstra says.
