CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Edith Bourne had a passion for fitness when she left Peru for the United States seven years ago. She hopes to share that passion with customers at her new fitness studio in Hurricane.
Bourne opened the Isla Bonita Fitness Studio at 3544 Teays Valley Road last November. She said her father, Humberto Alva, inspired her to open the studio.
"My dad was a bodybuilder," Bourne recalled. "He had a couple of different gyms in Peru where he had boxing classes."
Bourne said fitness is important to people in her hometown of Lima, Peru. She began helping her father, Humberto Alva, at his gyms when she was 17 years old, and being around her dad and his clients spurred her love of fitness.
"I always saw him running, working out, lifting weights any time of the day," Bourne said. "I think I got that from him."
Bourne moved to the United States with her husband in 2005. She began teaching fitness classes to her neighbors out of her basement and eventually began teaching at other area fitness studios in 2007 "just for fun" and to meet people.
But her goal wouldn't be fulfilled until she opened a place she could call her own.

DALLAS, June 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Bathing suits, summer Fridays, an influx of people at the gym these are all signs that summer is on its way. As body-conscious consumers make their way to the gym to prep for sundresses and shorts, many will experience the unfortunate consequences of "crash fitness" what happens at the gym when you try to do too much, too quickly particularly after months of sedentary behavior. In order to help combat the uptick in pre-summer gym injuries, Gold's Gym, the leading authority on health and fitness, is revealing a list of the top five most common gym injuries to be wary of.
Enlisting the help of Gold's Gym Fitness Institute member and celebrity personal trainer, Robert Reames, Gold's Gym compiled a top five list of the most common injuries seen at the gym during the months leading up to summer workouts, when consumers tend to overexert themselves at the gym, hoping to see immediate results.
"Crash Fitness affects gym newbies and veterans alike, especially in the warmer months when they are 'crashing' to get in quick beach body shape," says Reames. "Much like crash dieting can be harmful and ineffective, doing too much too quickly at the gym can actually do more harm than good, creating injuries that can potentially be long-lasting, keeping you both out of the gym and off the beach."
Gold's Gym and Reames together compiled the following top five injuries that people succumb to in the scorching summer months while "crashing" at the gym and what you can do to prevent them:

Free fitness classes to be offered on City Hall Plaza; Mayor Menino launches program today

By Colin A. Young, Globe Correspondent
As part of his recently launched Boston Moves for Health campaign, Mayor Thomas M. Menino joined public health officials and fitness instructors this morning to kick off Fitness on the Plaza, a summer series of free weekly fitness classes on City Hall Plaza.
Menino joined Dr. Barbara Ferrer, executive director of the Boston Public Health Commission, to launch the series of free classes, which includes classes run by instructors from Beantown Bootcamp, Health Yoga Life, South Boston Yoga, and The Sports Club/LA.
Summer is right around the corner, and its one of the best times for people to get out and get active in our city, Menino said in a statement. The classes that were offering every week on City Hall Plaza are a great way to get your exercise in before work and start your day off on the right foot. Whether youre pumping up with boot camp or unwinding with yoga, we want to give everyone a chance to get moving this summer.
The classes will take place on City Hall Plaza on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings until the end of August, according to the mayors office. Health Yoga Life will offer classes every Wednesday from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. until July 25. South Boston Yoga and the Sports Club/LA will team up for yoga classes every Thursday from 7 to 8 a.m. between July 12 and Aug. 30.
Beantown Bootcamp will lead classes from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. on Fridays between July 6 and Aug. 31. Beantown Bootcamp will also provide a family-friendly class between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. on Fridays. No registration is required for the classes.
Were fortunate in Boston to have fantastic resources to help people lead an active, healthy lifestyle, but access and affordability are often issues, Ferrer said in a statement. Thats why partnerships like these are crucial to the success of Boston Moves for Health. As a free and convenient program, we hope that Fitness on the Plaza will encourage more people to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives.
Boston Moves for Health, launched in April, encourages Bostonians to shed a collective 1 million pounds over the next year. The mayors call to action includes a challenge for residents to walk 10 million miles collectively during the yearlong campaign.

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire -06/05/12)- Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), West Hall, Booth #5200 -- Majesco Entertainment Company (COOL), publisher of the wildly successful Zumba Fitness video game franchise that's sold more than 7 million copies worldwide, today from the E3 show floor debuted Zumba Fitness Core, an energized dance-fitness party featuring choreography specifically designed to deliver tight and toned abs as well as an effective total-body workout. Zumba Fitness Core is expected to launch this fall on the Wii and Kinect for Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.
"We have realized tremendous success with our Zumba Fitness franchise that now ranks as the #2 best-selling fitness game franchise of all time, second only to the Wii Fit series that pioneered the category," said Jesse Sutton, Chief Executive Officer, Majesco Entertainment. "We know from research that the #1 area women want to transform is their abs and Zumba Fitness Core is the first and only video game to implement this consumer-driven feature. The 'core' focus is in addition to content fans have asked for: more licensed tracks, new dance styles and additional fitness features designed to maximize your total body, at home workout."
"The same way Zumba Fitness revolutionized the negative stigmas of fitness from the 'no pain, no gain' notion to the 'no pain, ALL gain' position, Zumba Fitness is revolutionizing the idea of ab workouts," said Jeffrey Perlman, Chief Marketing Officer, Zumba Fitness. "The days of crunches are over. Zumba Fitness Core takes a new approach. Participants are standing up, rocking out to amazing music and getting the most effective ab sculpting workout in the market. It is the only party around where you don't have to bring a six pack, but you may just walk out with one."
Rock your core and dance your way to toned, sexy abs with Zumba Fitness Core, featuring 40 new songs and routines, more than 30 international dance styles from around the world and hot new choreography that's designed to sculpt stronger abs through an exhilarating full body workout. Lose yourself in the music as celebrity Zumba instructors guide you through choreography set to contagious new Zumba fitness originals and a broader mix of smash hits from hot artists including Enrique Iglesias and Don Omar (full soundtrack to be announced at a future date).
In addition, Zumba Fitness Core offers even more new and returning features:
Majesco Entertainment invites you to get hands-on with Zumba Fitness Core for the first time at E3 in Majesco Entertainment's booth located in West Hall, #5200. On June 5th celebrity Zumba instructor Gina Grant will also be on site for interviews and demos.

Fitness trainer gains and loses 70 pounds in 1 year — on purpose

Fitness trainer Drew Manning gained 70 pounds in six months, then lost it all before a year was up.
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
(CNN) -- When Drew Manning stepped out from behind the cardboard cutout of his former fat self on Monday, the audience of "Good Morning America" was appropriately shocked.
The fitness trainer's journey had come to an end after successfully losing more than 70 pounds -- six months after he purposely gained the same amount. "Like it never happened," host George Stephanopoulos said.
"Kind of," Manning said. Both Manning and his wife, Lynn, can attest that a lot actually has changed in the past year. While Manning's body may have returned to its six-pack heydays, his mind, in many ways, has not.
Always a fitness junkie, staying in shape comes naturally for Manning. He's that guy at the gym the rest of us love to hate, the one who likes to use his biceps for pumping iron instead of changing channels, and who prefers sucking down a spinach shake to indulging in a brownie sundae.
Because of that, Manning was a "judgmental" trainer, his wife says. "He would look at someone who was overweight and say, 'They must really be lazy.'
"I was convinced people used genetics or similar excuses as a crutch," Manning writes in his new book, "Fit2Fat2Fit." "You either wanted to be healthy or you didn't."
