Omron Healthcare & Fitness Expert Bob Greene Encourage Americans To Make Every Step Count

LAKE FOREST, Ill., March 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Despite recommendations that suggest the average American should take around 10,000 steps a day to maintain proper fitness, many people take about half of that, averaging 5,117 steps daily. Even people in professions known for being on-the-go are often falling short when it comes to meeting walking goals. For example, according to data published by the National Institutes of Health and American Council on Exercise, physicians and nurses are logging on average 5,325 and 8,648, respectively. Coming in furthest from the 10,000-steps goal are office workers, taking an average of only 4,327 steps a day, followed by teachers, who average at about 4,726 steps.

Many people find it hard to carve out time in their busy schedules to fit in daily exercise, such as a gym class, a run on the treadmill or a long walk outside. However, daily exercise, added to the steps most people are already taking during the workday, can add up to the 10,000-steps goal. To help Americans walk more, Omron Healthcare, Inc. and Bob Greene, Oprah Winfrey's personal trainer and author of the book "20 Years Younger," have teamed up to create four new videos to encourage Americans to put a spring in their step and start tracking their progress daily. These motivational videos can be found at the Omron Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/OmronFitness.

"What many people don't realize is that exercise doesn't have to require a huge time commitment and can actually fit into your daily routine all it takes is adding a few extra steps throughout the day," said Greene. "It's very helpful to have a simple tool to keep you accountable as you work towards your fitness goals, which is why I recommend having an Omron pedometer as a partner to help motivate you and remind you to make every step count."

Greene suggests working up to the goal of 10,000 steps per day by walking for 30 to 60 minutes straight, or even in 10-minute increments over the course of the day. Research shows that using a pedometer can increase physical activity by about 2,000 steps or an extra mile each day, demonstrating that the Omron pedometer is a great motivational tool that can help push people to go further and reach their goals.

"Many people don't realize how close they are to achieving the 10,000 step daily goal," said Ranndy Kellogg, Omron vice president of marketing and product development. "Omron pedometers provide the extra motivation, and are accurate, easy to use and cater to anyone's needs."

Share how you're making every step count and see how you compare with others in your profession by posting your job, progress and tips for meeting your walking goals on the Omron Facebook page. While you're there, you can also enter Omron's "Make Every Step Count sweepstakes" between March 5 and April 2, 2012 for a chance to win a four-day, three-night stay for two at Canyon Ranch Spa in Tucson, Az. Weekly prizes include gift cards, Omron products, autographed Bob Greene books.Complete rules can be found at http://www.omronhealthcare.com/wp-content/uploads/Omron-Make-Every-Step-Count-Sweepstakes-Rules.pdf.

Omron pedometers are available online, sporting goods retailers and select drugstores throughout the United States. For more information about Omron Pedometers, visit http://www.Facebook.com/OmronFitness or follow Omron on Twitter at https://twitter.com/OmronFitness.

Tour Report: Fitness: Body faults lead to swing faults

By Sean Cochran, Golf Fitness

Swing faults such as a sway, slide, chicken winging, loss of posture, or an over-the-top-move are extremely detrimental in the execution of proficient golf swing as we all know. In addition, the unfortunate result of these compensation patterns are a loss of speed into the impact position, erratic ball striking, and overall inconsistent play. Swing faults can become a very vicious cycle of frustration when the golfer does not see improvement when time is spent practicing and working on the mechanics of the swing. In such situations what the golfer may not realize is the piece of puzzle which may be causing these compensations and corresponding frustration is the body.

Execution of a proficient golf swing requires a physical foundation of mobility, flexibility, stability, strength, and power. If the golfer is lacking in any of the aforementioned physical parameters, the ability to execute an efficient golf swing will most likely be hindered.

In such situations where the body is the limiting factor in the execution of the golf swing the development of compensation can easily occur in an attempt to overcome these physical dysfunctions affecting the golf swing. In the most basic of terms execution of a proficient swing requires mobility in the ankles, hips, thoracic spine, shoulder, and wrists. In addition to mobility, segmental stability is needed in the lower body, core, and upper body.

In general mobility is developed via flexibility training and segmental stability is created through strength training. A common area of weakness for many golfers leading to the development of swing faults is the core.

The core is a reference to anatomical area of the body incorporating all of the muscles from just above the knees to below the chest on the front, sides, and back of the body. Muscles groups such as the glutes, abdominals, obliques, and lower back are included in the core. The muscles of the core must be strong in order to create the required level of segmental stability in this area of the body to execute a proficient golf swing.

The exercise

An example of a very good core exercise for the golf swing is the Physio-Ball Jack Knife. This exercise develops strength in the abdominals, obliques, and postural muscles of the lower back.

To perform the Physio-Ball Jack Knife exercise squat down and place your stomach on top of the physio-ball. Roll forward on the ball by walking your hands out into a push up position. Continue to roll forward until only the feet remain on top of the ball.

Fitness instructors share passion with students

March 1, 2012

To Fitness Coordinator Jill Garrigan, Penn State fitness instructors have to be safe, effective and entertaining.

These instructors are not your typical 20-year-olds, Garrigan said.

She said they are committed and dedicated to the program. Garrigan said if she asked the instructors to physically move the building over for her, they would find a way to do it.

I am pushed every day by them, and they push each other, Garrigan said.

Two semesters are required to finish the Instructor Training Program, KINES 093, and the Junior Instructor Program, KINES 096, is also required to be considered an instructor. Each course fulfills 1.5 credits in kinesiology.

Garrigan said the programs focus on gaining experience in leadership, learning and public speaking.

The course does have exams as well as demonstrations in learning how to teach fitness classes.

It is a time-consuming 1.5 credits, Garrigan said. It is not intended to weed anyone out, but it is intended to teach skills.

She said you could earn a good grade in the class but still not be accepted as a fitness instructor.

Fitness Boot Camp Marketing Mastermind Turns Trainers Into Millionaires

How does one go from being a personal trainer working for someone else to a boot camp operator working for him or herself? Sam Bakhtiar demystifies the process in a dynamic weekend workshop centered around boot camp marketing principles. More information can be found at http://www.super-trainer.com.

Chino Hills, CA (PRWEB) March 01, 2012

Fresh out of college, many personal trainers find themselves working for a big box gym, teaching group classes for a small hourly wage and hoping to solicit one-on-one training time in the side. For this reason, the average salary for fitness industry professionals ranges from $20,000 - $30,000. This number is far too low and thats because successful career paths are not illuminated for industry professionals, says Boot Camp Marketing Expert Sam Bakhtiar, CEO of Fit Concepts in Chino Hills, California.

Think of it this way: no one ever questions that surgeons and doctors are worth every cent of their huge salaries because they literally save lives, right? Sam asks. Yet, personal trainers are saving many more lives by putting people on track to live healthier, happier lifestyles. My franchise has helped people lose tens of thousands of pounds over the years and reduced peoples risk of life-threatening disease. Never doubt your worth. Thats the first step toward making your first million in the boot camp marketing industry.

Sam Bakhtiar is organizing a fitness boot camp marketing mastermind event featuring a massive group of millionaires working in personal training, fitness franchise ownership and boot camp operation. Just being in the presence of these giants will make you feel elated and super positive about taking a new direction in your career, Sam explains. Ive been through school to get my B.S. in premed, my doctorate in chiropractics and my training credentials and no one can say I didnt learn a lot spending 20 years in the trenches but, for me, mentoring a millionaire had the biggest impact on my future career path. It was literally a life-changing meeting and I hope to provide that for everyone who attends my event.

Even though there is plenty of business coaching, mentoring and inspiration, dont think this boot camp marketing event will be all fluff. Sam Bakhtiar hands out step-by-step guides to replicating his success. He shares his story of training in New York City to the tune of a $20K salary and branching out into multiple revenue streams to grow his empire to over $2.4 Million in annual revenue. His track record of helping individuals succeed at their fitness businesses is nothing short of impressive. Just this month, Sam celebrated his 100th protg-turned-millionaire, in fact.

The cities, dates and times for Sams boot camp marketing events vary from month to month, but he invites any interested individuals to contact him directly to sign up for the next millionaire mastermind. In anticipation of the event, trainers may also download the Six Figures In 67 Days blueprint at http://www.super-trainer.com.

About Sam Bakhtiar

Sam Bakhtiar is a Persian-born American with over twenty years of experience in fitness training and body building. After completing B.S in Premed and Nutrition, Sam also received a degree of doctorate of Chiropractics. Along with being one of the best fitness trainers, Sam is also a business and marketing expert. Fit Yummy Mummy to Partner with Fitness Adventures USA for Moms’ Fitness Camp in Colorado

Workouts for moms expert Holly Rigsby and her company Fit Yummy Mummy are partnering with Fitness Adventures USA for a 4 day fitness camp in Estes Park, Colorado.

Elizabethtown, KY (PRWEB) February 29, 2012

Fitness Adventures USA specializes in hosting customized outdoor fitness camps for groups. Fit Yummy Mummy is so excited to be putting on this outdoor fitness adventure for moms, said Rigsby. What better way to achieve post pregnancy weight loss than in beautiful Colorado?

Indeed, moms looking to lose baby weight will have much to enjoy at this outdoor camp. The attendees will be able to enjoy pristine lakes, meadows, forests, and other great natural scenery that the Rocky Mountains have to offer, including 14,000 foot high Longs Peak.

The moms attending this camp will enjoy a wide variety of challenging but fun outdoors post-pregnancy workouts, continued Rigsby. In addition to taking on some of natures challenges, we will have the added benefit of working out at altitude.

The Fit Yummy Mummy fitness adventure will include a host of challenging activities set in a beautiful environment: alpine skiing, biking on forest paths, white water rafting, Rocky Mountain hiking, and world class fitness boot camps with views of forests, mountains, and rivers.

Rigsby promises that this fitness adventure will help with fat loss for moms, but equally as important is the way that it will promote health for both body and mind.

While the events organizers are certain that moms physical and mental fitness will benefit from challenging workouts set amidst breathtaking vistas, they further plan on bridging mind and body fitness with yoga, goal-setting and motivation workshops, and inspirational movies.

Mom fitness is only partly about how hard you work to lose that baby belly, explained Rigsby. On a deeper level it isnt about how hard, but rather how smart you care for your body in all aspects. This includes how you work out, what you eat, and even how you think about fitness.

In addition to the tranquil outdoor settings of the workouts, moms attending the fitness adventure can look forward to eating nutritious meals each day. During the course of the camp, instructors will also teach how to cook healthy meals for moms and their families.

Fitness Takes a Vacation

By Rick Aristotle Munarriz | More Articles February 29, 2012 |

If that business trip doesn't work out, there's always the workout.

Holiday Inn parent InterContinental (NYSE: IHG) is opening a new chain of hotels with a fitness theme. When the first of the Even hotels opens early next year, guests will see a large gym adjacent to the lobby's front desk.

It's not just about a big fitness room that will be front and center. The actual rooms will have more open spaces than traditional lodging options for personal workouts. Rooms will have weight benches, exercise mats, and even sturdy coat racks that double as chin-up bars.

Taking a page out of the high-end Canyon Ranch wellness playbook, the hotel's restaurant offerings will also serve up plenty of healthy fare.

InterContinental is earmarking $150 million for the first phase of snapping up other hotels and rebranding them.

It's a smart move. InterContinental will be able to charge a bit more than it typically commands for its Holiday Inn properties, and a seemingly stodgy lodging chain becomes an unlikely play on the country's wellness trends.

There's clearly big money to be made in promoting cardio workouts.

Last week alone saw the Active Network (NYSE: ACTV) -- the undisputed champ in Web-based registrations for endurance events -- post a 23% surge in quarterly revenue, and Nike (NYSE: NKE) introduce its mobile health Nike+ FuelBand bracelet.

You'll be hard pressed to find a specialty retailer growing as quickly as workout gear boutique lululemon athletica (Nasdaq: LULU) , and that reminds me that the Even hotel rooms will emphasize natural light for guests wanting to take in some yoga to cool down.

SportsQuest evicted from its fitness facility, new site pending

Credit: JOE MAHONEY /RICHMOND TIMES-DISPATCH

SportsQuest CEO Steve Burton in 2009.

The bad news for SportsQuest continues to roll in.

Its fitness center is closed, at least temporarily, after being evicted from its facility in an industrial park near the 250-acre campus in western Chesterfield County, and the lawyer representing a contractor with unpaid bills for work on lighting and a concession stand said he's moving forward with a lawsuit to try to recoup the money his client is owed.

"It's been a challenging year," said Steve Burton, the founder and chief executive of SportsQuest. "I look forward to better days."

Those days are not coming this week. By Tuesday morning, SportsQuest had been locked out of its fitness facility, and a new home might not be up and running for a week or more.

Burton said the move was planned and that he had identified a new site, but he declined to name it on Tuesday. He said he wanted to thank his members for their patience, and he promised that a new center would open soon.

Neal Carns, the landlord of the SportsQuest fitness center at 2240 Oak Lake Blvd., said SportsQuest was significantly in arrears on their rent, but he wouldn't say how much. He said that after months of trying to work out something, he terminated their access.

"You can only work with somebody for so long," he said, "and that time ran out."

In an unrelated development Friday, the lawyer for Farmville Excavating filed an amended mechanic's lien in response to a SportsQuest announcement that it was trying to sell its business a piece at a time.
