iFIT, Freemotion Take Hybrid Fitness to New Heights With AI Coach – Athletech News

As hybrid fitness becomes the industry standard post-pandemic, iFITs artificial intelligence-powered digital coach can serve as a key tool in gyms quest to engage and retain members

Freemotion is getting a major boost as it looks to make hybrid fitness the standard at gyms worldwide.

The commercial equipment brand has long embraced its relationship with parent company iFIT, whose vast library of fitness and wellness content, including around 18,000 workouts from expert coaches, is available to stream on Freemotions newest cardio machines.

Soon, iFIT will be launching its AI Coach, an artificial intelligence-powered digital coach that interacts with users via text message to provide personalized, 24/7 support.

Now available in Beta mode, iFITs AI Coach, called Tailor, helps users pinpoint their individual fitness goals. Based on those goals, Tailor then creates custom workout plans, schedules workouts, sends reminders, and delivers motivation to keep users on track and engaged.

I personally use Tailor every day to stay on track with my fitness regimen while testing the product, iFIT CEO Kevin Duffy has told Athletech News, adding that while AI Coach will mark a new era for fitness, it wont replace human personal trainers but rather enhance them.

Through our research, consumers have told us that a great personal trainer would help them know what to do next, in all parts of their health journey, hence why iFITs AI Coach wont solely focus on the workout but the whole person, Duffy explains.

To that end, iFIT is creating an expert panel of fitness, wellness, nutrition and mental health experts to ensure Tailors guidance corresponds to the real needs of users worldwide.

iFIT will be one of the first fitness and wellness brands to enhance its real trainers with AI support with the debut of our AI Coach this fall and we cannot wait to help more people live happier and healthier lives with expert coaching on-demand, Duffy adds.

Hybrid Fitness Is the New Normal

The creation of AI Coach comes as hybrid fitness becomes the standard industry-wide fitness enthusiasts, even highly dedicated gym-goers, are increasingly working out at home and on the go in addition to time spent inside the four walls of their favorite facility.

How people exercise has fundamentally changed since the pandemic and we are remaining nimble to match our customers needs, Duffy says. The hybrid approach to fitness is a new reality from the home gym to studios to sports and hobbies people are no longer compartmentalizing where they break a sweat.

Freemotion is embracing this reality rather than running from it; the equipment brand and its executives are encouraging their gym partners to board the hybrid fitness train before its too late.

We tell our customers, You need to have a digital solution because youre going to lose your members if not, Peggy Vo, Freemotions Director of Global Marketing, has told ATN. You want them to use your digital solution and not someone elses.

AI as a Member Engagement Tool

For gyms, the digital solution Vo speaks of can come by carrying Freemotion machines that stream iFIT content. It can also come by giving members access to iFIT at home to complement the in-facility experience.

Fit Athletic Club in San Diego notably signed a content deal with iFIT in 2023 to give its members a complimentary subscription to the fitness platform. Members at many other clubs across the world have experienced iFIT content in-club on Freemotion machines.

As gyms fight to engage and retain their members, a tool like iFITs AI Coach could be a game-changer. Tailor drives motivation and builds healthy habits with personalized text messages, including daily reminders and nudges. Members who are motivated by Tailor to work out at home using iFIT content can then hop on a Freemotion cardio machine at their gym and pick up where they left off with the same content and featuring the same coaches.

The symbiotic relationship between brick-and-mortar fitness and virtual content is one of the guiding principles behind Freemotions current business model and the value proposition it offers its gym partners in 2024.

(Gyms) shouldnt see it as a competitive product; its a complementary product to what (members) are using in the gym, Adam Guier, Freemotions VP/North America Sales says of virtual fitness options like iFIT content. I have everything I need in my home to work out but I still want to go to the gym. I want that gym atmosphere and that energy you find when you walk into a facility.

Girls on the Run program at Crim Elementary promotes confidence, friendships and fitness BG Independent News – BG Independent News

The Girls on the Run program at Crim Elementary School had its practice 5K on April 19. Twenty girls in third through fifth grades participated in the program, coached by Sara Buddemeyer, Michelle Crider, and Rachel Snyder.

Bobby and Betty Bobcat and Bowling Green State Universitys mascots Freddy and Frieda Falcon supported the students during their practice 5K, as it was the first time they had attempted the total distance.

The students smiled and sometimes sang together as they went around the track. They got a stretchy bracelet to wear each time they went around to keep track of their laps. Many of the first runners to finish their 5K kept going to support their teammates.

As each participant finished, the coaches held a streamer across the track so they could break through it. Each of the girls crossed the finish line with a triumphant smile as their coaches and teammates cheered them on.

The official Girls on the Run 5K race is on May 11, at The Shops at Fallen Timbers in Maumee. Heres the website with more details: https://www.girlsontherunnwohio.org/5k

Buddemeyer said this is a program she wished she wouldve had when she was their age. She said it helps girls build their confidence, develop friendships, learn about being positive, setting goals, combating negative self-talk, encouraging others, being a good friend, and what to look for in a friend.

When asked what they liked about participating in Girls on the Run, several students said they liked that it brought them together, where they made new friends, learned about teamwork, and supported each other. It wasnt a competition between them they were competing against themselves to keep improving at each practice and do their best.

With this being the programs first year, they secured a grant to cover the registration cost for all participants. Each student received a T-shirt and water bottle. Additionally, each student received a new pair of running shoes through a partnership with Adidas.

To train for a 5K, the students met with their coaches after school twice a week for 90 minutes. They had a snack and an opening discussion about the days theme, and then they warmed up, stretched, and had their practice.

Girls on the Run Northwest Ohio hopes to inspire participants of all abilities to recognize their inner strength, make meaningful connections with others, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities, and confidently stand up for themselves and others. Trained coaches use physical activity and dynamic discussions to build social, emotional, and physical skills while encouraging healthy habits for life. Anytime Fitness Drives Revenue With Personal Training Tech – Athletech News

A multi-unit Anytime franchise owner credits AFs SmartCoaching feature as a key revenue and member engagement driver at his 13 clubs

Andrew Breton, a multi-unit Anytime Fitness franchisee with 13 clubs in Connecticut, points to advanced technology as propelling his clubs success, with tech-supported personal training programs accounting for about 50% of revenue and driving member engagement.

Under parent company Self Esteem Brands, Anytime Fitness has become one of the fastest-growing gym brands in the world, recently debuting a groundbreaking deal with Apple Fitness+ and launching SmartCoaching technology, available through the AF app.

Introduced last year, SmartCoaching provides Anytime members with personalized coaching anytime, anywhere via its app, which tracks activity and performance wherever members are. The captured data is then analyzed using predictive analytics to craft personalized health and fitness plans for each member. A body composition scanner tracks progress, and as members achieve their fitness goals, new programs are created that match their new level.

Providing truly personalized personal training has been a game-changer for the Anytime Fitness member experience, according to Breton.

It allows us to be there for our clients when they need us most, making a profound impact, Breton said. While clients are often enthusiastic and motivated, its during the tough times that the value of a coach truly shines. Coaches play a pivotal role in helping clients navigate challenges, stay motivated and perform at their best. Many are realizing that sustainable progress in health and wellness comes from behavior change, which is best achieved with professional guidance.

Engagement & Retention Features

Breton says SmartCoaching, particularly its SmartEngagement feature, has been instrumental in enhancing both member retention and personal training sales at his gyms.

This innovative system predicts when members might be considering canceling their memberships, allowing our team to provide timely support, he explains. This proactive approach not only helps us maintain lower attrition rates but has also led to a noticeable increase in personal training sales. Members who are contemplating leaving often require additional guidance and support, which our coaches are well-equipped to provide, resulting in a positive guest experience.

Breton adds that the AF app has significantly improved coach efficiency, resulting in 21% of revenue at his gyms stemming from personal training.

Previously, coaches could manage around 40-45 clients, but with the app, they can now effectively handle up to 60 clients without compromising on the personalized experience, he said. The app enables coaches to segment clients based on their specific needs, communicate more efficiently, and build and track client workouts outside of regular sessions.

Tech & The Human Element

This dedication to fitness technology and delivering a personalized fitness experience for members is what Breton feels distinguishes Anytime Fitness from other gym franchises.

While technology helps us streamline services, we understand that lasting change comes from modifying behaviors, supported by genuine human interactions, he said. Our focus on high-quality coaching allows us to meet service standards while offering something truly special to each member.

Balancing out the advanced anytime, anywhere technology is Anytimes signature 24/7 access to its clubs.

This blend of innovation and personal touch is what truly differentiates us, Breton said, adding that he sees technology as a tool to enhance, not replace, personalized fitness interactions.

What used to take 35 minutes to build a clients workout now takes only 5 minutes, thanks to technological tools, he continued. This efficiency gain allows coaches to provide better follow-up and more personalized attention to clients. By leveraging technology in this way, we ensure that it complements our human-centered approach, making our services efficient and deeply personalized.

With 13 successful Anytime Fitness clubs in his portfolio, Breton says continued growth is part of his plan.

The wellness industry is experiencing rapid growth, and Anytime Fitness is uniquely positioned to cater to the evolving needs of wellness consumers, he said. As we continue to see the demand for convenient, high-quality fitness facilities increase, were excited about the opportunity to expand our footprint and serve even more communities.

SETS Brings Successful New Jersey Fitness Concept To New Tampa – New Tampa Neighborhood News

SETS New Tampa Hybrid Training owner Phil Diaz (right) will be working with his clients at his new fitness facility, which is expected to celebrate its Grand Opening in the Pebble Creek Collection on Bruce B. Downs Blvd. in New Tampa on Saturday, April 27. (Photos by Charmaine George)

The only Florida location of SETS Hybrid Training gyms is set to open and host fitness classes by the end of this month.

Located in the Pebble Creek Collection, less than two miles south of the Pasco/Hillsborough county line on Bruce B. Downs (BBD) Blvd.), SETS New Tampa is bringing a successful New Jersey-based fitness concept to New Tampa.

Owner and New Jersey native Phil Diaz has worked with SETS for the last four years. Phil believes in the concept so much that he left everything behind in his home state to introduce SETS to Florida.

SETS currently has 12 locations, including three corporate locations in Jersey. All of the other locations are franchises, including seven in the Garden State, one in Murfreesboro, TN, and the new one in New Tampa.

Its a growing company that has only been around since about 2015, says Diaz. Its super successful.

He says that with a caveat, though. SETS isnt growing quite as fast as some other franchises and he says thats because all franchise owners also are required to be on-site managers.

That means owners, including Phil, have to be in the gym ensuring that members get what they need, and the facility is more than just a moneymaker for some off-site investor.

That fits with the SETS philosophy, which emphasizes relationships among those who work out together.

The biggest thing we do that is different is that were very big into community, says Phil.

Thats why SETS New Tampa will be hosting a happy hour every month for members, an annual Christmas party and organize teams to participate in local events, such as Spartan (obstacle course)races.

Its super competitive, Phil says of SETS and its members, but its fun as well. Its more than just working out.

The community is bigger than just the gym members, too. Phil says public servants, such as those who work for fire and police departments, in health care, education, and active duty and military veterans receive discounts on membership.

Of his decision to move to our area, Phil says, It was the greatest decision of my life. I love this place. Its amazing.

In scoping out Florida locations to grow SETS, he considered many options, including Clearwater and St. Petersburg.

New Tampa was the choice because we fell in love, he says. Looking at the demographics, we see the growth in this area and love how everything in (nearby) Wesley Chapel is new.

While he recognizes the New Tampa location isnt convenient for many Wesley Chapel residents, he hopes to open a total of three locations in the first three years hes here, so people in our reading area who dont feel they live close enough to the New Tampa SETS may end up with a location closer to them in the near future.

SETS offers its group fitness classes several times a day. Each class is completely different, so youll never be bored. Free weights and machines are used in the group fitness setting.

Many people get intimidated because they think its just for a certain type of athlete or for fitness gurus, Phil explains. But, were literally for everyone. Some of our members are college athletes, othersjust got out of surgery or are in their 60s and havent been in a gym before.

To be able to accommodate people at every level, Phil and other coaches are always happy to demonstrate modifications for every exercise or movement. Theres always an advanced way for serious athletes to perform each exercise, Phil says, and a safer way for beginners and those who are rehabbing an injury.

Some people always get nervous trying it out, Phil explains of SETS, but I want them to feel relief because we are always happy to scale it down so they can feel comfortable.

Once you join SETS, classes are booked through the SETSBuilt app. Each class lasts 50-55 minutes, and Phil promises that the sessions sell themselves.

Every day is totally different, he explains. We change the movement up so its never the same. It could be leg day, full body day, or chest day, but its always a good mix of strength and cardio.

SETS New Tampa offers a number of different types of memberships, but Phil says most members choose the unlimited classes option. He says the majority of members will take three to five classes each week, while some work out every day and others only take one or two classes a week.

You come whenever youre available, Phil says. All you have to do is go on the app and save yourself a spot.

Phil wants you to come in and try it out, so he offers specials for those who just want to give it a try. Give him a call or stop in at the location to learn more about free trial classes.

One major perk of SETS New Tampa is that there are no long-term contracts. Each membership is paid on a monthly basis and only a 30-day notice is required if you decide you need to cancel.

The SETS New Tampa Grand Opening will be held on Saturday, April 27,featuring a number of vendors, classes and a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Since it hadnt opened yet when this issue went to press, no members of the New Tampa SETS were ready to tell us about their experience yet. However, there are SETS members in New Jersey who miss Phil and hope that people in the New Tampa/Wesley Chapel area will take advantage of the opportunity to join SETS and work out with him.

Brianna Schoeneberg is a SETS member in Barnegat, NJ. She says she first met Phil a couple years ago when he started working at the SETS gym where she trains.

Ive been working out for about 10 years now, she says, and hes been one of the best. The energy is always high and any type of modification you need, he has it. And hes literally one of the friendliest guys ever.

Brianna says that when she travels, she visits lots of different gyms but she always prefers to come back to her home gym.

Its more about community and your personal goals, Brianna says. Every coach is positive and high energy, and the classes are never the same.

Brianna says she loves the hybrid training format and that it works for all fitness levels. Club members are a strong community, but include a wide variety of ages and abilities.

Brianna thinks Phil will be able to bring the same positivity, energy, and focus on community to SETS New Tampa.

Everyone here loved him but were super happy for him on the journeys hes taking, Brianna says. Its a big thing to move from Jersey to Florida to start something new, but its pretty cool that hes taking it to Tampa. I feel like everyone there is lucky to have him, because we miss him here in Jersey.

Phil is excited to be able to offer pre-opening members of SETS New Tampa a Founders Rate of just $129 per month for unlimited classes, with no enrollment fee, and free classes until the end of April.

He notes that the Founders Rate is for unlimited classes, although SETS New Tampa also does offer other membership levels for those who dont necessarily want or need unlimited sessions.

SETS New Tampa Hybrid Training is located at 19651 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., Suite E-6, in the Pebble Creek Collection. For more information, visit SETSBuilt.com, @sets_newtampa on Instagram, SETS NEW TAMPA on Facebook.
