Fitness Diaries: Let’s be kind to one another, it’s the healthiest way to live – Colorado Springs Gazette
Its evident that eating healthy and engaging in a consistent weekly exercise regime contributes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. But there are also other aspects of our lives that we can adjust to help us all be happier. This includes treating each other with decency and compassion.
As we approach Valentines Day, a day dedicated to love, Im making a call for kindness.
Lately Ive been seeing a more heightened sense of hostility toward one another, leading to name-calling, rapid insults and threatening comments. Why are we so angry?
When we get angry, our blood pressure rises, which can lead to severe heart problems. People typically resort to anger to protect themselves from appearing vulnerable in conflicts or in troublesome situations. Getting mad never feels good, yet we rely on this basic emotion as a defense mechanism when our bodies are in distress.
Staying in this strong emotional state over a long period of time can damage relationships between friends, family members and co-workers. Plus, it can be difficult to focus on everyday tasks as confrontational situations play over and over in our minds.
Controlling our anger can help us gain a better perspective on finding ways to be kind to each other.
Social media is the most common place for people to vent their frustrations or express their opinions on trending news topics. Unfortunately, this platform also has normalized the ability to belittle others while hiding behind a screen.
If you find yourself feeling extremely upset with those who may not have the same opinion as you, perhaps its best to schedule some time away from social media.
Colorado is a beautiful state; take advantage of it. Taking in the sights of nature can clear your mind and relieve stress.
And dont forget to take a few pictures while youre on your outdoor excursion, so when youre ready to return to social media you can post them. Your scenic photos could help uplift someone elses spirits if theyre having a bad day.
Offline, keeping your cool can clearly be more difficult when crossing paths with someone who pushes your buttons.
The common saying, kill them with kindness, can be easier said than done especially when feeling trapped in an argumentative situation that you didnt instigate. In these instances, it is habitual to seek revenge or use other combative tactics to ensure the other person feels the same pain youre feeling. Stop! Holding a grudge builds constant tension and evokes hatred.
If having a civil conversation is not an option, it could be time to distance yourself from this person. If its a family member, reach out to a family counselor to help mend unresolved issues in a neutral setting.
If youre the one feeling constant anger or if youre having a hard time controlling your outbursts, please seek the help of a counselor or therapist.
Emotions are contagious. Try to surround yourself with those that give you joy.
Smile more; say, hello to people as you walk by them; wave to your neighbors; hold the door open for others as you enter or exit a building; buy a cup of coffee for a co-worker; and take a friend out to lunch. These small actions can make a big difference in improving someones day and may motivate them to pass it forward.
Now, lets spread love and shower others with kindness. The world is in dire need of it.
Stephanie Swearngin has been a nationally certified fitness professional since 2009.

Coutinho return considered & fitness boosts for Reds and rivals Tuesdays Liverpool FC News – This Is Anfield
Liverpool have a big run coming up, not just to secure the Premier League title but with European action returning. Theres fitness news on both fronts, plus a new Coutinho rumour.
Atletico Madrid have been through something of a crisis of late in terms of both form and fitness, but they are hoping that all changes ahead of the Champions League last 16 tie with Liverpool.
LaLigas third-finest (usually) have been without the likes of Santiago Arias, Diego Costa, Joao Felix, Hector Herrera and a handful of others, but seem likely to get them all back for the first legwith the exception of English right-back Kieran Trippier.
Form-wise, Atletico have one win in the last four in LaLiga, leaving them fourth, with last weekends win over Granada bringing to an end a run of four defeats in five games across all competitions.
As for the Reds, Jurgen Klopp had James Milner back in action yesterday, Naby Keita returned just before the break and Sadio Mane is back out on the pitch, though not quite in full training.
Xherdan Shaqiri appears to be the only player not available as we return to action this weekend.
It all ended rather horribly, but theres zero question that Philippe Coutinho was Liverpools best player for a period and the most important attacker in the team.
His eventual sale allowed the Reds to splash out and upgrade with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, which has worked out well for the Anfield faithful but not so much for the Brazilian himself.
An inconsistent time at Barcelona came to an end in the summer, at least temporarily, and The Athletic claim that Klopp sat down with Michael Edwards to discuss a potential return.
The finances were far too high, leading him to go to Bayern instead, but if they dont make his move permanent this summer its possible that Coutinho is back on the marketfor around 75-80 million, rather than the 140 million the Reds sold him for.
Anybody fancy act two?
We dont always have to look at the big transfer rumours, the massive team selections news and the next trophy coming our way to appreciate the club. Sometimes, the love is in the details.
Anfields next expansion project is the Anfield Road end, with plans now set out which apparently road-map just how and when the club see the rebuild progressing.
This Is Anfield have seen documents pertaining to the works, detailing out-of-season construction, a two-tier stand built to the same height as the Main Stand and plans for coping with the changes to parking, access and improvements to the concourse.
At present there is still an ongoing public consultation in place, but all being well the plans will be put to application later in the year.
A couple of years from now, if everything goes to plan, well have a 61,000-plus capacity stadium to revel in.
Unai Emery has given a chat with France Football and spoken about all the things that werent his fault at PSG and Arsenal, including Thiago Silva not defending high enough up the pitch, apparently stopping the fall of Arsenal which started long before his arrival, players not having a good attitude and the referees in key Champions League games against Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Could have been the greatest coach in the world? Youre not even in the top 10 from your own country, mate.
Sachin Nakranis piece on Gerard Houllier and rebuilding Liverpool, in the Guardian.
And news on Man United requesting permission for rail seating and safe standing before the end of this season, with details on the Mail.
Take your pick of Championship action on Sky Sports Football/Red Button. All games at 7.45pm.

Bianca Andreescu suffers further fitness setback as knee injury forces her out of Dubai Duty Free – Tennishead
Bianca Andreescu has suffered more injury frustration after being forced to withdraw from the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
The US Open champion has barely been seen since her win at Flushing Meadows in September, and her knee complaint kept her out of the Australian Open as well.
The signs had looked positive earlier this month when she was named in Canadas Fed Cup squad, even though she never actually got involved in singles action.
However, it appears there has been another set-back, forcing her to remain on the sidelines.
Im very sad to announce that I wont be able to compete in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships next week, Andreescu said.
Im not at 100 per cent yet and following my team and doctors recommendation, I dont want to take any risk to re-injure my knee.
Each day I get closer to being back to the court competing but Dubai is just too soon. I hope I can come and play in Dubai next year.
World number one Ashleigh Barty has also withdrawn from the event with a foot injury.
The line-up remains strong, though, with SImona Halep, Karolina Pliskova, Elina Svitolina, and Sofia Kenin all involved.

Over coffee, on the street and at home, Nia stays connected.
Im on my phone 24/7, said Nia.
Niawe won't use her last nameis a WPTV promotions producer. She once made her social media sites public pages, open to everyone. Beware, cyber security experts warn against giving up privacy for popularity.
Nia found out some of her favorite appsfrom games to fitnesshave been hacked.
Alan Crowetz is the CEO of Infostream, his computer and business consulting firm. Nia sat down with him for a security review and was taken aback by what he easily found.
Passwords, user names, location data, all kinds of stuff about you is out there, said Crowetz.
Nia wondered what a hacked fitness app might have to do with her security.
With the fitness app I can tell when your home or when you are not at home," said Crowetz. "If you run there is (potentially) a physical security type stalker thing with that.
Nia had the perfect example to highlight how you, your family, or friends can inadvertently give your privacy away.
I remember the other day. My dad posted a video of me, and I shared it and my license plate was on it, she said.
Crowetz preaches cyber security and constant vigilance. He urges you to get a password manager and to never re-use a password. Protect yourself and think twice before hitting the send button.
One of the obvious ways is to quit voluntarily sharing information," Crowetz said. "Make sure you lock your profile down and be very good (cautious) about what you post.
Nia is taking the advice to heart. Its been a sobering lesson for someone whose online security was already deemed better than most.
The thing that is just the most shocking to me is that I really thought I was doing a pretty good job of keeping my stuff hidden, she said.

Crunch Fitness Coming to Deptford Mall’s Sears Auto Building Summer 2020. Yes They Have Daycare – 42freeway.com
The Deptford Mall transformation continues with Crunch Fitness planned to take over the entire 30,000 sq ft Sears Auto building in the malls parking lot! Crunch Fitness is a growing full featured fitness center with day care services for gym patrons! They promote High Value at a Low Cost and the base membership is only $9.95!
To give a perspective on size, the Deptford location at 30,000 sq feet will be larger than most area Planet Fitness locations. The location in the former Sears Auto Center is surrounded by a sea of parking spaces which is always a complaint at other gyms. With hundreds of spots surrounding the gym you should never have a problem parking at Crunch Fitness Deptford! Crunch joins an area that recently saw the much smaller Anytime Fitness Deptford close recently, and just 2 years ago the large Edge Fitness opened on Clements Bridge Road.
Deptford Mall owner Macerich just made the announcement on a recent investors earnings call, but Crunch Deptford started their online presence at the end of 2019. (42Freeway was a little behind on this one!) We chatted with franchise owner Zach Gustites who hails from New Jersey and owns the rights to expand Crunch in our area. Currently there are South Jersey locations in Delran and Mooresetown.
If you arent familiar with Crunch Fitness, they started in the late 80s in New York as a fitness studio, and grew to become a full fitness center. For a short while they were owned by Ballys, who many will remember had a large gym just an 1/8 a mile up the road where Mission BBQ stands today. Ballys no longer has any involvement in Crunch.
For the retail center Deptford Mall, this is another awesome signing and continued transformation of the mall after the still recent closing of Sears. In the main Sears mall building, Dicks Sporting Goods is opening later this year on the lower level, and entertainment arcade/bar/bowling center Round One is set to open soon after! (more on that soon!)
Crunch is expanding with a High Value Low Cost plan which starts at $9.95 a month, and offers some add-on options. Youll need to confirm with Crunch when they open their pre-opening mall kiosk, but I am fairly certain Zach said the base price includes day care for one child! Read on for details of their pre-opening free membership contest!
Being a full fitness gym Crunch offers the following summary of features (again check with the Crunch team to confirm all features and prices)
