SCW at the Medical Fitness Association /AB Show – Club Industry
Club Industry was not involved in the creation of this content.
[Orlando, FL November 13] On Wednesday, November 13, 2019 in Orlando, FL, female directors, managers, trainers and medical personnel, both experienced and novice, from health and wellness facilities all over the USA, gathered on to be inspired and educated by the CEO of SCW Fitness Education, Sara Kooperman, JD, Owner of Shapes Fitness for Women, Ann Gilbert and President of Midtown Health, Debra Siena. These executive women spent the morning exploring Women: Vision, Values & Verve, an exceptionally innovative event supported by the Medical Fitness Association (MFA) and Women in Fitness Association (WIFA). Everyone who attended came with the desire to fuel their fire and advance their career.
The program, based upon both personal resolutions and professional aspirations of these incredible leaders, explored proven strategies and successful practices filled with active discussions. Each individual began their journey by looking at their Vision, examining what they wanted to achieve and developing a vision statement that supported their professional growth. Once a vision was developed, each attendee took the time to clarify and understand her Values so that they aligned with her individual behavior. Each person then developed a purpose based upon the female desire to please everyone while remaining true to herself. This interactive workshop concluded by addressing Verve, reviewing confidence and its ramifications on success. Every woman left with a defined and purposeful vision, a set value and the gusto to take on their future with verve!
Following on the heels of the successful MFA Womens Summit, came along the MFA/WIFA (Women in Fitness Association) Sisterhood Stride. Before sunrise, 30+ women and men gathered in the lobby of the Rosen Centre Hotel. With coffee in one hand and business cards in the other, these energetic early risers talked and walked for a 2-mile trek down I-Drive near the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. This 45-minute active networking session provided an opportunity to meet other fitness and business enthusiasts from 13 states around the country. By the time everyone returned, there was perspiration, exultation and motivation in the air and on the ground.
The week continued with the Athletic Business Show. SCW Fitness Education sponsored the Demo Workout Stage. Fitness professionals, mainly from Florida, provided exercise and movement over two days. The AB Show Expo Hall opened at noon on Thursday, November 14 and so did the SCW Demo Stage. The 20-minute workouts started with some heel kickin line dancing led by June Kittay. Throughout the afternoon there were a variety of classes. Workout participants had the opportunity to sample WaterinMotion, on land, led by SCW CEO Sara Kooperman, Billie Wartenberg and Shapes Fitness For Womens, CEO Ann Gilbert. WaterinMotion is a pre-choreographed, quarterly released aquatic program for all levels. Others participated in programming provided by Zumba, Chiseled Faith, and The Warrior Experience from Alignment Essentials. A little zen relaxed the crowd as they enjoyed a Tai Chi Experience by Jacob Glassmeyer, an upcoming SCW presenter at DC MANIA in February 2020. As the demo staged continued the second day, popular presenters returned filling the workout floor and the expo hall closed to the sound of cowboy boots again.
Next year, SCW Fitness Education will be participating at the MFA/AB Show again in Baltimore, MD November 4-6. Make your plans now to join us. Best NYC Gyms And Fitness Centers For Every Budget In 2020 – Women’s Health
Thomas BarwickGetty Images
Gym chains were having a tough go in New York City for a while. First, the boutique fitness boom happened. Then, the digital workout revolution. Now, OG gyms are cool again, thanks in no small part to the fact that they've stepped up their game recently to win clients back. No matter what you're looking for in a gymtop-notch group classes, locker rooms that feel like spas, or budget-friendly memberships that make it possible to break a sweat without breaking the bankthere's a Big Apple gym for you.
Consider this your guide to finding the best gym in NYC for your particular needs. You'll discover the fitness centers where you're most likely to spot celebs, take your self-care practice to the next level, join a sports league, or just get in a no-fuss workout without having to wait in line for the showers afterward.
Each entry has been handpicked by WH's editorial team and includes information about membership costs, plus a few highlights about each gym that speak to why it's worth ponying up to become a member.
Now, there's no guarantee that you'll cross paths with the likes of Blake Lively if you happen to hit up her gym (of course I had to include Blake's gym), but even if all you leave with is a good ol' fashioned rush of endorphins and a closed exercise ring on your Apple Watch, you'll still be glad you checked out one of the best gyms in NYC, no?

1Best for A+ Amenities
Chelsea Piers Fitness Brooklyn
Monthly Membership Fee: $180
While Chelsea Piers' original location on the West Side Highway is hands down the best place to go if you want to participate in recreational sports like rock climbing, soccer, or volleyball, its shiny new outpost in downtown Brooklyn just beats it as one of the best gyms in NYC.
Why? For starters, it's a recently opened fitness center with two floors of exercise areas that hold all of the gym equipment you could ever need. Plus, it has Peloton bikes, as well as its own Pilates reformer and hot yoga studios.
But the real draw is the fact that CPF BK is the perfect place to practice self-care post workout. Its locker rooms have heated floors, steam rooms, dry saunas, and shower products from Malin + Goetz (heavy sigh). Oh, and did I mention the robes?
2Best CrossFit Box
Solace
Monthly Membership Fee: Starting at $299
If WODs are your preferred way to work out and finding a fitness family is a big reason why you want to join a gym, then consider joining the CrossFit community at Solace in Midtown Manhattan.
There, you'll find dedicated athletes who love burpees, box jumps, and each other. Not to mention, you can work out with some of the city's top trainers, including MTV reality star-turned-cpt, Kenny Santucci.
3Best Group Classes
Equinox
Monthly Membership Fee: Starting at $260
Equinox has 40 "clubs" in NYC, and each one is packed with plenty of equipment to let you exercise on your own time. But the real perk of being a member here is that you get access to all of its great group classes. (Some gyms make you pay extra for certain ones, so read the fine print.)
Better still, Equinox started its own incubator to discover and develop the top talent from NYC's pool of boutique fitness instructors back in 2017. It's called Project by Equinox, and the gym regularly features standouts from its lab on its schedule of classes. The result is that you have the best of both worlds: a boutique fitness experience and a big box gym.
4Best Place To Spot Celebrities
Drive495
Monthly Membership Fee: $249
This inconspicuous fitness center on Broadway in SoHo is where famously fit celebrities like Emily Blunt and Ryan Reynolds work out when they're in town. Even Serena van der Woodsen (I mean, Blake Lively) has been spotted breaking a sweat here (sorry, had to).
So, what draws so many stars to this gym? That would be celebrity trainer Don Saladino, who works with all of the actors above, plus a few more you might just find yourself running next to on the tread.
5Best Big-Box Chain
Crunch
Monthly Membership Fee: Starting at $70
Like yellow cabs and Broadway shows, Crunch gyms are part of the fabric of NYC. The first one opened in the East Village in 1989. Today, there are 45 locations in the tri-state area.
No matter which one you choose to join, you can bank on the fact that you'll find all the basic gym equipment you need to bust out a bootcamp or circuit training workoutwithout all the bells and whistles that might cost you more money every month at other gyms.
6Best Budget-Friendly Option
Planet Fitness
Monthly Membership Fee: $10
Planet Fitness prides itself on being a "judgement-free" zone. You won't find any "critics" here, as murals on its walls readand you won't find any extra costs, either.
Planet Fitness is so cheap that you can find lattes in NYC that cost more than a monthly membership at this gym. There are 20 locations across the five boroughs, making it easy to get in an affordable workout, no matter where you live.
7Best Gym For Families
YMCA
Monthly Membership Fee: Costs vary by location.
The Village People were right, folks: It's fun to be at the YMCA. This is especially true for families who want to work out together because the community fitness centers offer discounts for single-parent and two-parent households.
What's more, the YMCA offers free childcare while you exercise. So you can take a group class, go for a swim, or use the Y's cardio machines or weight room while your kiddos play.
8Best Gym For Night Owls or Early Risers
24 Hour Fitness
Monthly Membership Fee: Starting at $30
As the name implies, the four 24 Hour Fitness locations in NYC are open all daypretty fitting for the city that never sleeps.
Here you'll find the usual gym equipment: free weights, cardio machines, and open exercises spaces. You'll also find perks like a sauna and juice bar, as well as specialty equipment like TRX suspension units.

New Fitness Report Reveals the Most Popular Day of the Week to Work Out Is…Tuesday – PureWow
Peathegee Inc/ Getty Images
ClassPassjust put out their big2019 fitness trends reportand it's official: People love Tuesdays.
After analyzing 100 million workouts and class reservations booked byClassPass members, the companywhichprovidesaccess to various fitness studios in cities around thecontinentcompiled their data toreporteverything from the most popular workout in North America (spoiler alert: its strength training) to the laziest day of the calendar year.
But out of all the findings from the report, a couple stood out to us.Did you know that Tuesday is the most popular day of the week to work out?Combine that with the fact that 5:30 pm is the most common time totakea weekday class and you can pretty muchguarantee we'll be avoiding that post-work Tuesday pilates.
As for the most popular day of the entire year towork out? That was February 19, 2019. If that date rings a bell, its because itwas the day after a dual holiday:Presidents Day and National Drink Wine Day.(This probably indicates there were a slew of guilt-driven workouts following a day of too much boxed Cabernet...But hey, we dont judge.)
You can get the fullClassPass 2019 trend reporthere. We recommend using this important info to help plan your workouts(and help plan when toavoidthose workouts)for the remaining 3 weeks of the year.

Are Planet Fitness, Inc. (NYSE:PLNT) Investors Paying Above The Intrinsic Value? – Simply Wall St
How far off is Planet Fitness, Inc. (NYSE:PLNT) from its intrinsic value? Using the most recent financial data, well take a look at whether the stock is fairly priced by taking the foreast future cash flows of the company and discounting them back to todays value. This is done using the Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) model. It may sound complicated, but actually it is quite simple!
Remember though, that there are many ways to estimate a companys value, and a DCF is just one method. Anyone interested in learning a bit more about intrinsic value should have a read of the Simply Wall St analysis model.
View our latest analysis for Planet Fitness
Were using the 2-stage growth model, which simply means we take in account two stages of companys growth. In the initial period the company may have a higher growth rate and the second stage is usually assumed to have a stable growth rate. In the first stage we need to estimate the cash flows to the business over the next ten years. Where possible we use analyst estimates, but when these arent available we extrapolate the previous free cash flow (FCF) from the last estimate or reported value. We assume companies with shrinking free cash flow will slow their rate of shrinkage, and that companies with growing free cash flow will see their growth rate slow, over this period. We do this to reflect that growth tends to slow more in the early years than it does in later years.
Generally we assume that a dollar today is more valuable than a dollar in the future, so we discount the value of these future cash flows to their estimated value in todays dollars:
(Est = FCF growth rate estimated by Simply Wall St)Present Value of 10-year Cash Flow (PVCF) = US$1.9b
We now need to calculate the Terminal Value, which accounts for all the future cash flows after this ten year period. The Gordon Growth formula is used to calculate Terminal Value at a future annual growth rate equal to the 10-year government bond rate of 1.7%. We discount the terminal cash flows to todays value at a cost of equity of 7.4%.
Terminal Value (TV)= FCF2029 (1 + g) (r g) = US$346m (1 + 1.7%) 7.4% 1.7%) = US$6.3b
Present Value of Terminal Value (PVTV)= TV / (1 + r)10= US$6.3b ( 1 + 7.4%)10= US$3.1b
The total value is the sum of cash flows for the next ten years plus the discounted terminal value, which results in the Total Equity Value, which in this case is US$5.0b. To get the intrinsic value per share, we divide this by the total number of shares outstanding. Compared to the current share price of US$73.0, the company appears reasonably expensive at the time of writing. Remember though, that this is just an approximate valuation, and like any complex formula garbage in, garbage out.
We would point out that the most important inputs to a discounted cash flow are the discount rate and of course the actual cash flows. You dont have to agree with these inputs, I recommend redoing the calculations yourself and playing with them. The DCF also does not consider the possible cyclicality of an industry, or a companys future capital requirements, so it does not give a full picture of a companys potential performance. Given that we are looking at Planet Fitness as potential shareholders, the cost of equity is used as the discount rate, rather than the cost of capital (or weighted average cost of capital, WACC) which accounts for debt. In this calculation weve used 7.4%, which is based on a levered beta of 1.036. Beta is a measure of a stocks volatility, compared to the market as a whole. We get our beta from the industry average beta of globally comparable companies, with an imposed limit between 0.8 and 2.0, which is a reasonable range for a stable business.
Although the valuation of a company is important, it shouldnt be the only metric you look at when researching a company. The DCF model is not a perfect stock valuation tool. Rather it should be seen as a guide to what assumptions need to be true for this stock to be under/overvalued? If a company grows at a different rate, or if its cost of equity or risk free rate changes sharply, the output can look very different. What is the reason for the share price to differ from the intrinsic value? For Planet Fitness, Ive put together three relevant aspects you should further research:
PS. Simply Wall St updates its DCF calculation for every US stock every day, so if you want to find the intrinsic value of any other stock just search here.
If you spot an error that warrants correction, please contact the editor at editorial-team@simplywallst.com. This article by Simply Wall St is general in nature. It does not constitute a recommendation to buy or sell any stock, and does not take account of your objectives, or your financial situation. Simply Wall St has no position in the stocks mentioned.
We aim to bring you long-term focused research analysis driven by fundamental data. Note that our analysis may not factor in the latest price-sensitive company announcements or qualitative material. Thank you for reading.

The workout that ClassPass deems 2019’s trendiest? It’s a doozy – USA TODAY
What you eat before a workout is crucial for your performance and apparently carbs and sugars are encouraged. Buzz60's Susana Victoria Perez has more. Buzz60
Have you ever strapped yourself to a spring-loaded machineand then felt a core sorer than you've ever known?
Then chances are you've tried the workout that ClassPass deems 2019's trendiest: the Megaformer class.
Fitness booking app ClassPassanalyzed more than 100 million workouts to determine that theMegaformer workoutwas the fastest-growing fitness trend in America. The machine-based class, which has been popularized by celebrities including Sofia Vergara, combines pilates with cardio by way of a contraption designed by (or inspired by the design of) trainer Sebastien Lagree of Lagree Fitness. The machine has platforms on the front and back, and a gliding carriage in the middle that forces users to engage stabilizing stomachand leg muscles. And to sweat, often profusely.
Exercising on the Megaformer is hard work! Her glutes will be feeling it tomorrow.(Photo: HIP Fitness)
Though versions of the machine have been around since 2005, the 30-60 minute Megaformer class has caught on this year, according to ClassPass. Theapp reports a million Megaformer classes were booked in 2019, which marks a 38.6% increase in Megaformer reservations compared to 2018.
Meanwhile, Lagree Fitness is coming out with a new version of exercise equipment this week: the Megaformer EVO.
Here's a look at the new Megaformer EVO, which comes out soon.(Photo: Courtesy of Lagree Fitness.)
Here's what else ClassPass shared in its report: (and here are their 2018 findings, in case you missed them)
The most-booked workout class category in the U.S. is ...strength training. But yoga came in second, and is the class categorythat first-time ClassPass users were most likely to book in 2019.
The biggest rest day is ... Jan 1.However, ClassPass reports a spike in new-user downloads on Jan. 2. A day-delayed start on New Year's resolutions, perhaps?
The class time most often booked is ... 5:30 p.m. However, 10 a.m. was the busiest class time on weekends.

Orangetheory Fitness coming to Walton Boulevard in Bentonville – talkbusiness.net
Orangetheory Fitness, one of the fastest-growing franchises in America last year, is opening a location in Bentonville.
Little Rock-based AR HIIT LLC, an Orangetheory Fitness franchisee, has signed a lease agreement to occupy 3,296 square feet of retail space at 1201 S. Walton Blvd. The space was previously occupied by Bentonville Butcher & Pint restaurant. The business closed in September after negotiations for a new lease agreement were unsuccessful.
The property has been owned since December 2015 by Keith Naples of Texarkana, who paid $3 million for the 19,000-square-foot building. Parachuting Penguins and Rich Products Corp. are other building tenants.
AR HIIT owns seven Orangetheory locations in Arkansas: Little Rock (2), Bryant, Jonesboro, North Little Rock, Fayetteville and Rogers.
Brittany Pitann, AR HITTs vice president of sales and operations, will open the Bentonville location along with studio manager Shannon McMasters. Its expected to be open by March 1, 2020.
We are excited about this location because of how centralized it is to everyone in Bentonville, Pitann said. Convenience is key when choosing where you want to work out, and we wanted to be close to home and close to work.
Pitann said the new space will be larger than other Orangetheory locations. It contains 14 stations, holding up to 42 people at one time. Unique amenities include roll-up glass doors along the front of the building, with Walton Boulevard frontage.
Alan Cole represented the tenant in the commercial lease. Butch Gurganus represented the building owner. Both work for Colliers International in Rogers.
When we caught wind that the space was going to be available, we had to jump on the opportunity, Cole said. Butch and I could not think of a better tenant to take advantage of the location and amenities it provides to the residents of Bentonville and commuters from Centerton.
Orangetheory Fitness is a Florida-based chain with more than 1,200 owned/franchised studios in 50 states and 22 countries. Its one-hour, full-body workout is focused on scientifically-derived, group-based workouts broken into intervals of cardiovascular and strength training.
Orangetheorywas namedthe fastest-growing franchise in America last year by the trade publication Franchise Times. It reported Orangetheorys sales rose 63.7% in 2017, and its number of units rose 47.4%.
This past August, Los Angeles-based private investment firm St. Cloud Capital announced an investment in AR HIIT. It was an investment out of St. Clouds third fund, which has committed capital of $250 million.
