Eat the Frog Fitness opens in Ashburn | Business – Loudoun Times-Mirror

When Julie and Travis Green of Ashburn were searching for a fitness studio franchise to open in Loudoun County, they discovered an up-and-coming brand called Eat the Frog, which launched in Arizona in 2017.

Eat the Frog offers around-the-clock access to the workout studio with both virtual and coach-led small group classes. Every eight weeks, clients complete a fitness assessment to track their progress and goals. The training and business model were developed by Bryan Clay, an Olympic Decathalon Gold Medalist in 2008, who teamed up with his friend and businessman Joe Culver.

In an interview with the Times-Mirror, Clay said he developed Eat the Frog because he wanted to create his own studio around the group fitness concept but he wanted to do something different than what was already out there.

I'm passionate about fitness and know it well. I wanted to bring the best things about personal training and group fitness together in one place. We are aiming to create something to change people's lives and something I can be proud of a personalized approach to group fitness. It's been fun so far, Clay said.

Clay said most people are looking for a quick fix. Instead, he hopes to create a community that instills consistency and discipline with regular workouts.

Fitness is cumulative. When you start to feel your body respond, you can improve your quality of life and we will help develop a long term fitness plan to change your life, Clay said.

Each workout is designed for low impact, but high intensity so there is less risk of injury and it produces quick results, said Julie Green.

A fitness guru who has taught at studios around the area for many years, Julie Green liked the fact that Eat the Frog studios are open 24/7 so it would not restrict when people could come and take a class.

She also appreciated that their business model provides every client with a fitness assessment when they come in the door. This way, people can set goals and then be reassessed every eight weeks to see how they are progressing.

Each class can be done at your own pace, so it attracts different levels who can all be in the same class at the same time and at various ages, she said.

Eat the Frog Fitness Broadlands opened Nov. 4. It is located at 43170 Southern Walk Plaza next to Rubino's Pizza.

Fitness experts say doing exercises like yoga and pilates can keep you relaxed and help eliminate tension in your body and mind. If you're a little more advanced, they suggest trying high-intensity workouts like strength training or cycling. Berlin First In Fitness changing hands and names – Barre Montpelier Times Argus

BERLIN This time a name change will accompany their new location, but owners of Green Mountain CrossFit are readying to take their burgeoning business to the next level by acquiring the super-sized fitness center next door.

It isnt a done deal yet, but Nick Pettersen said Monday he and his wife, Cady, expect to acquire First In Fitness on Granger Road in coming weeks. Pettersen predicted the closing will occur before Christmas, paving the way for planned renovations that will lead to a February move and the launch of Green Mountain Community Fitness.

Pettersen said the pending sale is the final step in achieving the vision he had when he started Green Mountain CrossFit in Montpelier a decade ago. The business quickly outgrew the converted riverside restaurant and moved to its current location a converted bowling alley on Granger Road in Berlin.

That move was nearly nine years ago and saw Pettersens business go from leasing less than 2,000 square feet to a renting a full 10,000 square feet.

The common denominator in that business model was leasing something Pettersen always viewed as an interim step to owning his own facility.

Though he passed on the possibility when he was approached two years ago, Pettersen said he remained intrigued by the prospect of acquiring First In Fitness from long-time owner Michael Woodfield. More recent conversations produced an agreement that will see the 47,000-square-foot Berlin facility change hands.

Pettersen said he couldnt be happier.

We saw a great chance to own some property, to be able to find a permanent home for Green Mountain CrossFit (and) to fit our operations into our original vision, he explained.

Though that vision initially involved building a large-scale fitness facility and recreation center that serves all of central Vermont, Pettersen said buying one works, too.

We see the First In Fitness acquisition as a huge leap forward in exposing more people to community-based fitness in our region, he said, suggesting Green Mountain Community Fitness (GMCF) will be a locally owned, family friendly, one-stop shop for health conscious central Vermonters.

Casual exercisers, gym class addicts, competitive outdoor athletes, and everyone in between will be able to find a home at GMCF, he said.

It will just look a little somewhat different than First In Fitness has for most of its 40-plus years.

While Pettersen has a long-term vision of an aquatics center that would require years of planning and municipal buy-in, hes also got a short-term plan that will involve a mix of cleaning, construction and juggling some uses within the spacious facility.

Part of the plan will involve subleasing more than 8,000 square feet of the space to health, wellness and fitness businesses, like the four that will follow Green Mountain CrossFit when it makes the move next door. That includes a the martial arts group, a massage therapist a canine acupuncturist and a home-birth consultant who collectively occupy roughly 1,500 square feet of Green Mountain CrossFits location.

Pettersen said he has some commitments and others have expressed interest in space that will be freed up during the initial round of renovations. He said hes excited about the prospect of adding an on-premise day care facility and a food service cafe.

Our goal is to place a lot of services in one location that individuals and families want to use on a daily basis, Pettersen said.

We want to make it that third space where people are able to come before and after work, with and without their family and spend an hour or more getting the services they need, he added.

Initial plans call for draining and cleaning and upgrading the indoor pool that Pettersen views as a regional resource.

Its a nice size six-lane pool it just needs some TLC, he said, noting the hope is to open up the space to more natural lighting, while sprucing up locker rooms that are in need of attention.

Pettersen said the biggest change will involve converting two of four indoor tennis courts into an area that includes exercise studios, an extensive collection of cardio machines and equipment from a gym now located on the first floor of the building.

A little bit less than half of the tennis barn is going to get a radical overhaul into a nice, state-of-the-art fitness facility focusing more on functional fitness, he said, noting plans involve constructing a new mezzanine for the cardio machines taking full advantage of the tennis courts high ceilings.

Two of the tennis courts will remain and Pettersen said he is committed to maximizing their availability for members to play and take lessons.

According to Pettersen, more than half of the facility 27,000 square feet is currently dedicated to tennis, which is a largely seasonal use. The change, he said, would still accommodate that important use while centralizing various fitness aspects of the operation.

Work will start after the sale is finalized, and is expected to be completed in February. Pettersen said the targeted upgrades wont require closing the facility, but will the move from the building next door will wait until it is finished.

Itll be a big conga line of equipment moving up the hill, Pettersen said, joking the move could be a training opportunity for Green Mountain CrossFits 300 members.

Woodfield who acquired the well-established Berlin business 15 years ago, said the pending sale to Pettersen and his wife, Cady Hart-Pettersen, was a positive development for all involved.

I am excited that with the change of ownership this facility will continue to serve the community for many years to come, he said.

Pettersen said he will focus on immediate upgrades, but has a bigger vision for the facility that is several years and a successful capital campaign away. Creating an aquatics center would be a regional attraction is the logical next step, he said, noting it would respond to interest that has been expressed over the years by residents in Barre, Montpelier and other surrounding communities.

Its a down-the-road conversation, but Pettersen said he is already thinking about it.

We have this great resource, its centrally located and we would be open to a cooperative approach for creating something even more special in central Vermont, he said.

Xiaomi launches the low-cost Mi Band 3i fitness tracker in India – TechRadar

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has launched the Mi Band 3i, a successor to Mi Band HRX, in India. It will be available for pre-order on Mi.com starting November 21 for Rs 1,299.

The company emphasizes that its latest affordable fitness band is made specifically for the Indian market. Xiaomi also launched its most recent Mi Band 4 in the country a couple of months ago, priced at Rs 2,299. The new addition to Xiaomi's current wearable portfolio in India will give another option to buyers looking for a more affordable alternative.

It will further strengthen Xiaomi's position in the wearable segment in India, as it's currently the number one wearable company in the country. As per Canalys Wearable Band Analysis, Aug 2019, Xiaomi holds the number one spot with 39% market share in the segment.

It comes with several new upgrades over its predecessor, Mi Band HRX. The display size is increased from 1.2cm to 1.9cm, with AMOLED technology and touch support added on top.

While the Mi Band 3i retains basic metric tracking like steps and calories, it also introduces notification viewing on the band. It also features the "Find Device" option, which allows users to detect the paired smartphone directly from the band. Mi Smart Band 3i is water-resistant up to 5ATM (50 meters in depth for 10 minutes), letting users wear it while swimming or taking a shower.

The Mi Band 3i has a 110mAh battery, a significant increase over its predecessor's 70mAh cell. Xiaomi claims up to 20 days of usage, which has been a constant on the previously launched Mi Band devices.

$1 million investment expands fitness center at Spring Arbor University – MLive.com

SPRING ARBOR, MI - Spring Arbor University invested nearly $1 million to replace its indoor pool with an expanded fitness center.

The Faith Small Fitness Center opened on Wednesday, Nov. 6, inside the McDonald Athletic Center, 106 E. Main St. The investment came from the schools general fund, as well as a donation from the Faith F. Small Foundation and Charlie and Beth Kuntzleman.

The fitness center is named after Small, who served on the schools Board of Trustees from 1984 until she died in June 2016 at age 94.

We are deeply appreciative for Faiths generous and heartfelt service to Spring Arbor University," President Brent Ellis said in a news release. Her generosity, in many shapes and forms, to the university and the Jackson community allowed them to move forward in profound ways.

The space expanded from 1,400 square feet to more than 6,300 square feet and now contains workout options for non-athlete students, such as:

A student survey in 2018 spurred the school to remove the pool and expand the fitness center, said Vice President of Enrollment and Marketing John Bahr.

We had a space that was extremely underutilized, he said. The cost of running and maintaining a pool every year is significant...We realized we had a pretty significant opportunity to listen to students and provide a space for the entire campus to benefit from.

The space will also host classes for students studying physical therapy in the health and human performance department. Trained students and staff will also run a physical therapy clinic in the space that is open to the public.

It can provide free injury screenings for students, faculty and staff, and provide orthopedic, spinal, soft tissue services and more. Visit the schools website to book sessions at the physical therapy clinic, or call Dr. Mitchell Zigler, the clincial director, at 517-750-6800.

Bahr expects the clinic to fully move to the fitness center after Christmas break. He said he is looking forward to the fitness center providing more space for the residential nursing program, and possibly the electrical engineering department in the future.

Planet Fitness Reports 22 Percent Increase in 2019 Q3 Revenue – Club Industry

Planet Fitness, Hampton, New Hampshire, reported third quarter 2019 revenue of $166.8 million, a year-over-year increase of 22.1 percent, according tofinancials released Nov. 7.

The company opened 41 new franchisedclubs during the quarter and saw system-wide same-store sales increase by 7.9 percent.

"We delivered another quarter of very solid results," CEO Chris Rondeau said in a media release. "High system-wide same store sales, combined with accelerated new store openings and our franchisees' continued commitment to re-equip their existing clubs with new equipment, fueled a 22 percent increase in total revenue.The third quarter was also highlighted by our highest-attended franchisee conference to date with over 1,500 attendees from across the system coming together to share ideas on how to strengthen the Planet Fitness brand, enhance the member experience and drive new member sign-ups.

The company's franchise segment revenue increased to $66.7 million, corporate-owned stores segment revenue grew to$40.7 million and equipment segment revenue improved to $59.4 million, representing increases of 21.7percent, 15.1percentand 27.9percent, respectively.

Planet Fitness' adjusted EBITDAincreased 22.2percent to $65.7million.

The 41new club openings boosted Planet Fitness' total facility count to 1,899as of Sept.30, 2019.

Based on several factors, including our experienced franchisees and their ability to execute, the significant amount of projected store expansion still ahead and our increasing marketing spend, I am confident that the business is well positioned to drive continued growth and increased profitability, Rondeau said in the release.

In other news, the company has proposed a recapitalization transaction of its subsidiaries' existing securitized financing facility. As of Sept. 30, the company claimed $1.2 billion in outstanding debt under its existing financing facility and is seeking to issue $550 million Series 2019-1 Fixed Rate Senior Secured Notes. Net proceeds from the facility will be used to pay transaction costs and for working capital and general corporate purposes. The proposal, if approved, is slated to close during the fourth quarter.

Additionally, Planet Fitness announced its first Australian clubs have opened in the New South Wales cities of Tuggerah and Gosford with a third location expected to open in Casula in 2020. The company has signed a special development agreement with Bravo Fit Holdings Pty Ltd., a group consisting of American and Australian franchisees, to develop 35 locations in the country in coming years.

The company ranked No. 6 onClub Industrys Top 100 Health Clubs of 2019 listwith$572.9 million in 2018revenue from corporate-owned locations and franchisee fees but not individual franchisee revenue.

New aquatics and fitness center opens Thursday in Yakima – YakTriNews KAPP-KVEW

YAKIMA, Wash. - The new YMCA and Yakima Rotary Aquatic Center held a ribbon cutting Monday, followed by an open house for community members.

The expansive facility at the former site of Chesterley Park near 40th Avenue and Powerhouse Road includes a pool, lazy river, water play area, water slides and two saunas.

"[The] aquatics features are really second to none in the Northwest," Yakima YMCA Executive Director Bob Romero said.

The project broke ground in May 2018 and has been in the works for the past seven years, Romero said.

"We're really excited about this facility," Romero said.

The current YMCA location in downtown Yakima will remain open. Those who already have a membership at that location will be able to use it at the new location for no extra charge.

"Chesterley gives us an opportunity to be one Y' with two locations and serve more people in our community," Romero said.

The new center also has a full fitness studio, indoor track, basketball court, an entire floor of fitness equipment.

Other amenities include two full locker rooms. No locks are required for the lockers: you punch in a personalized code to lock it and use the same code to unlock it.

The locker rooms also have a device to dry swimsuits; pop your suit in, hold the lid for 10 seconds and pull it out mostly dry. Smaller, private locker rooms allow families or persons with disabilities to have privacy.

"We're very excited about what we have to offer people," Romero said.

The center includes a childcare area, where parents can pay $5 per child per visit to drop off kids six weeks old to six years old for up to two hours while they work out. For older kids six to 15 there's a drop-in after-school program in the youth room.

Aquatics classes, such as Aqua Zumba, are scheduled to start Thursday. Most fitness classes will start Monday, with the exception of Pilates, which starts Nov. 26.

Starting Thursday, the center is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
