You Can Do This 20-Minute HIIT Workout Anywhere and Burn Major Calories – POPSUGAR

If you're looking for a way to stay fit, but you're short on time and space, high-intensity interval training may be just what you need to get started. HIIT combines intense bursts of exercise with rest periods, allowing you to work out for shorter bouts, while still burning a huge amount of calories. It's touted as one of the most effective workouts for weight loss. And you don't need a ton of space or expensive equipment to do it.
To start, try this 20-minute HIIT workout, designed by Lyuda Bouzinova, an ACE-certified personal trainer, fitness nutrition specialist, and cofounder of Mission Lean. "If you keep the intensity high throughout the workout, you'll also get your body into a state of EPOC (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption), also known as the afterburn effect," she told POPSUGAR. "That means you've revved up your metabolism and you'll be burning calories long after the workout is over." Keep reading for the details.
Directions: Do the workout on an empty stomach, if you can this will keep you light on your feet, and because you're not exercising for an extended period of time, the energy already stored in your muscles will be sufficient. You'll do a short warmup, followed by three sets of high-intensity moves that work the whole body. Do each of the exercises in the set back-to-back, with no rests in between, then take a short, two-minute break between sets. "These short breaks will ensure that your heart rate stays elevated and you are burning extra calories during your workout," Lyuda said.

Wisconsin’s first Life Time fitness center is opening. Here are 5 things that dazzle – Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

The folks at Life Time fitness center probably would cringe if a member told friends, "I'm going down to the gym to work out."
It's not that there aren't plenty of ways to work out at Wisconsin's first Life Time location, which is near Calhoun Road and I-94in Brookfield.
But it's much, much more than a gym. In fact, Life Time prefers to callit an "athletic lifestyle resort."
"People can hang out, spend their entire day," said Jason Thunstorm, vice president of corporate communications. "You'll see places where they can eat, where they can pamper and relax, where they can work out, where their kids can be, where they can work."
There are many impressive features at the Brookfield Life Time. Here are five things that stood out during a tour Thursday of the $47 million, 176,000-square-foot facility, which opens to all members on Monday:
The indoor swimming areafeatures a leisure pool, lap pool,zero-depth pool for kids andresort-style seating. The large outdoor pool area includes water slides, an outdoor spa and a poolside restaurant. When school is on break, children ages 5 to 12 can come in for clinics that include swim lessons, healthy meals, water safety skills and water sports.
"The pools end up being one ofthe massive family draws for us," Thunstrom said.
They are luxurious, featuringwhirlpools, saunas, steam rooms, complimentary towels and lockers, and an assortment of Soapbox body products. One observer familiar with the Milwaukee Bucks locker room said it reminded him of the locker room at the NBA team's training facilitybut with a little lower ceiling.
You name it, it's there in an enormous room that feels like it's a block long. There are dedicated studios for group fitness, cycle, yoga and Pilates programs.
While you work out or use the club, Life Time employees watchthe kidsstarting as young as three months in this 5,000-square-foot area. Kids Academy caters to children up to 11 years old.
"We don't show movies, we keep them moving," Thunstrom said.
Among the amenities are a downsized-basketball courtand an outdoor covered turf area for soccer and other outside games. There are lots of programs for children.
LifeCafe is a restaurant open to the public, not just members. From the 300-calorieAVO Catalina (multigrain toast with avocado, fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato and balsamic vinaigrette) to the 1,070-calorie BBQ chicken and bacon pizza (garlic-herbed chicken, bacon, barbecue sauce and three-cheese blend garnished with chipotle ranch and green onion on a cauliflower crust) it's a menu with something for just about everyone.
Nearby is a coffee bar by day, which becomes a lounge serving wine and beer in the evening.
And when you're finished eating or drinking, you can work it off.

Planet Fitness ordered to turn over past complaints of ‘debaucherous’ behavior – The Union Leader

BRENTWOOD A judge has ordered Planet Fitness to turn over information related to any past investigations into complaints about sexual harassment and alcohol use in the workplace in response to a lawsuit filed by a former manager who alleges the corporate office had a debaucherous environment with drinking games like Fireball Friday and Beers with Peers.
At a hearing Wednesday, Rockingham County Superior Court Judge Daniel St. Hilaire told Planet Fitness lawyers that they must make various documents available to Casey Willard as she tries to build her case against the popular fitness chain headquartered in Hampton.
John Sherman, Willards lawyer, argued that the company was refusing to provide relevant information concerning any other complaints, policies regarding alcohol use, and other documents.
Sherman said he wanted to know if other corporate employees were disciplined for alcohol use or sexual harassment and how those investigations may have been handled. He argues that the company didnt enforce its policies, which created the environment that eventually forced an emotionally distraught Willard to resign.
Judge St. Hilaire ordered Planet Fitness to provide information related to any relevant complaints that may have been investigated during the five-year period before Willard quit in 2018.
K. Joshua Scott, an attorney for Planet Fitness, told the court that he didnt know of anyone being investigated, disciplined, or terminated for violating an alcohol use policy since at least January 2015.
He also claims that many of Willards requests for information were answered, and wrote in court paperwork that some of her requests were nothing more than a fishing expedition designed to harass Planet Fitness.
Willard, a Dover resident, was hired as a manger in 2015 and eventually became manager of franchise development and construction for the company.
Her suit accuses the company of sexual harassment, creating a hostile work environment, discrimination, and retaliation.
She has claimed that the companys human resources department was aware of the drinking games and sexual comments, but ignored the problems, and that it failed to enforce its anti-fraternization policy, which prohibits employees who supervised subordinates directly or indirectly from engaging in a sexual relationship with subordinates.
Willard has also alleged that she was drugged and raped on a business trip with another employee and his friends.
Planet Fitness Chief Executive Officer Christopher Rondeau; Dorvin Lively, the companys president and chief financial officer; Joshua Beyer, former vice president of real estate and development; and Al Buell, vice president of construction, have also been named as defendants who are accused of aiding and abetting discriminatory practices and retaliation.
Planet Fitness has denied many of Willards claims and insisted that it has a zero tolerance policy related to harassment and is committed to providing a safe environment for its employees. The companys lawyers have also claimed that Willards decision to add Rondeau and other top executives as defendants six months after she filed the original lawsuit was done to harass and embarrass them by smearing their reputation in public pleadings.
The case is scheduled for trial in June 2020.

A man threatened to kill a woman at Planet Fitness. He got banned for life. – LGBTQ Nation

A 60-year-man named Marc Bernier has been banned from Planet Fitness and given a one-year injunction to not contact a transgender woman who he repeatedly threatened to kill last March after she used the womens locker room at the gym. He also has to pay a $500 fine.
Bernier was found guilty of having violated the New Hampshire Civil Rights Act after prosecution by two-year-old Civil Rights Unit of the states Attorney Generals office. He still faces misdemeanor charges for his death threats.
Related:A cis woman got banned from a gym for insulting a trans woman. She thinks shes the victim.
The incident occurred on March 17, 2019, when he walked up to an unnamed transgender woman and asked, Hey, are you a guy or a girl? The woman reportedly said her gender was none of Berniers business.
He said it was his business because my wife changes in that locker room and if I see you going in there again Ill fucking kill you.
After she reported Bernier to a Planet Fitness employee, the employee told him that she could use the womens locker room and that his wife could use a private changing stall if she liked. That apparently wasnt satisfactory to Bernie because he threatened to kill the woman over and over again, even repeating the threat to police when they arrived later. He repeatedly referred to the trans woman using male pronouns too.
Naturally, Berniers threats illustrate why political fights over transgender bathroom and locker room access threaten the dignity and safety of trans people. Transphobic political rhetoric often paints trans women as men in dresses and sexual predators, making ignorant citizens like Bernier view them as threats worthy of death.
Iowa is one of 17 U.S. states that has laws explicitly protecting trans peoples rights to public accommodations such as hotels, locker rooms, and bathrooms.

The technology behind Openfit is world class, built by the team that built Evite, SurveyMonkey, and Beachbody On Demand. When I started my fitness journey a few years ago, I realized that, especially as a working mom, there were not a lot of practical options for people who dont live near gyms, who are intimidated by the atmosphere of big-box gyms, or who love the boutique fitness scene but cant afford to spend $35 per class on an ongoing basis, said Selina Tobaccowala, Openfit Chief Digital Officer and founder of fitness start-up, Gixo, which was acquired by Openfit to power Openfit Live. Our goal is to democratize this experience, and make it possible for everyone to benefit from the accountability, community and results that come from having a live trainer providing immediate feedback in a tech-enabled small group setting.
And because a healthy lifestyle begins in the kitchen, Openfits nutrition features make it easier than ever to get a personalized nutrition plan and stick to it. Members just answer a few simple questions and are given a custom plan, including daily and weekly meal suggestions that take the guesswork out of what to eat to get the results theyre looking for. Everything is tracked right within the app, making Openfit a one-stop-shop for members to reach their goals.
Staying fit and keeping track of your goals should be simple, which is why we developed Openfit to be an all-in-one platform for healthy living, said Openfit CEO Jon Congdon. Members can now access live and on-demand workouts and personalized nutrition plans and tracking all within one app, removing common barriers to success and making health goals achievable for everyone.

Friend-ercise: this new London fitness class is designed to help you make new pals – Evening Standard

The latest lifestyle, fashion and travel trends
Making new friends gets harder as you get older, and all too often life can get in the way of you seeing the ones you do have.
London gym chainRight Path Fitness wants to change that with its newfitness pop-up 'Friend-ercise', a classspecifically aimed athelping lonely Londoners make new pals.
Thespeed friending event consists of a 45-minute workout featuring exercises for which you'll have to buddy upand perform team-building activities in which you'll have to put your trust into each other. Fitness classes are usually social in their nature anyway, but this will also factor in time to chat after each circuit.
Afterwards, they'll ply you with mocktails and healthy snacks, giving you theopportunity to work the room and hopefully bond over your love of fitness and wellbeing. How wholesome.
The event is aimedat peopleaged between22 and 35 and is being held at the Right Path Fitness studio in Spitalfieldson November 14 at 7.45pm.
Friend-ercise will feature team-building exercises
KeithMcNiven, founder of Right Path Fitness which also hosts 'Date-ercise'a similar class for fitness fanatics looking to find love, said: London is a great city, but it can be really hard to meet new people.
I should know, I moved here from Leeds years ago without knowing anyone. Finding new friends can be hard when youre in your twenties or thirties, because you cant just walk up to someone in the pub and be like, hey, wanna hang out? and social gatherings organised online can be super-awkward if you feel uncomfortable in big groups.
Why it's time to start incorporating a SkiErg into your gym sessions
That, along with a recent fitness boom as more people embrace a healthy lifestyle, is how Friend-ercise was born. The class is a combination of a tough fitness class, but with enough time for you to chat, find a workout buddy or just have a nice time in a relaxed setting with new people. No stress, no pressure and if nothing else, youll walk away feeling healthier, with a nice endorphin boost.
The class is also purposely kept under an hour and 15 minutes, to cater to busy London workers who struggle to find time in their diaries.
Tickets cost 25 but there are only 12spots, so if you fancy meeting some new people in a platonic way, you'd better get booking fast here.
Suri Cruise and Katie Holmes Are Fitness Buddies – Vanity Fair

Of all the dynamic duos out there, some rise to the top, the crme de la crme, toI dont knowregular, perfectly good milk products, as if buoyed by their mutual support. Theres a whole meme about it. Maybe youve seen it. I dont know how youd miss it. To understand what caliber of duo were talking about: Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee. Michelle and Barack Obama. Elmo and Bert. These are all examples of great two-person teams.
None, Id argue, are as stinking cute as Katie Holmes and her daughter, Suri Cruise. Maybe Im biased. Suri did make her world debut in the pages of this very magazine, and she and her mother have since become the fabric of the city I love, New York City. They are as essential as Alec Baldwin allegedly punching a person in the face or Jennifer Lopez being from the block. They are of the place and by the place, and the place wouldnt be the same without them.
And so it is with great joy that I bring you the following news. Or I dont bring it. Holmes herself brings it by way of Shape magazine: Sometimes Holmes and Cruise work out together if their schedules permit it. I feel very blessed to have such a special daughter. Being her mom is absolutely the greatest gift and privilege, Holmes said of her kid. Sometimes I work out with my daughter. It just depends on the day.
We have our routines, and occasionally they overlap, she added. But I dont force her to work out with me because I know thats lame.
What I love about this quote is how much it makes them sound like friends. Friends who try to fit each other into their schedules. They try to stay healthy together, bonding over a shared favorite activity. She doesnt specify what workout they do together, but Holmes does say that she likes to box and spin and do yoga and dance. This all sounds like stuff a 13-year-old would be into too, but I imagine the dance is especially interesting to Cruise. Zumba, maybe. Possibly ballet. She does wear a ballet flat well.
Fitness! Another New York thing that of course theyre both into. Well, I guess fitness not exclusive to New York or anything, but one can never forget the citys great boutique-fitness boom of 2014. It is certainly what the majority of this little islands inhabitants are doing for a big percentage of their lives every day, in between working too much and trying to find the best bagel. Anyway, it is my most wholesome wish in this world that Cruise never discovers what is or isnt lame vis--vis her mom, and these two continue to be one of those close mother-daughter units for life.

Fitness Is Important To Our Health, But Its Critical For Your Business. This Founder Explains Why – Forbes

SPINCO Founder and Philanthropist, Michelle August
For those of us who monetize our passion, the lifestyle of entrepreneurship can often take a mental and physical toll on our bodies. Managing your own time means working around the clock which makes it difficult for some entrepreneurs to fit a healthy amount of sleep and regular fitness training into their booked schedules.
For Michelle August, founder of indoor cycling studio SPINCO, building a community, moving past fear and taking calculated risks are not only the foundations of her business but the keys to success for busy entrepreneurs.
Starting SPINCO just five years ago at the age of 22 years old, she cultivated a dedicated following and has grown the business with over 400,000 riders across Canada. However, this success started with uncertainty at the beginning of her journey. Moving back home to Kelowna, British Columbia after completing a basketball scholarship in California, she initially worked for her familys automotive business. She quickly recognized that selling cars was not her calling and the lack of community left her unmotivated and inactive. This is where the idea for creating SPINCO was born. Leaning into her core values of community and fitness, August created the type of environment for customers that she desired for herself. I was not only working out for myself, but I was working out for my team and those around me and that was a huge motivator for me. Thats what SPINCO has been built on, she recalls, It is for pushing those people that are in your class, motivating and inspiring those around you as well. Feeding off their energy is a huge part of what SPINCO is today and the main reason why I originally started it in the first place.
Spinco merchandise
The lesson learned in this experience is that the work starts with you. We all know fitness is important to our health, but did you know it could also be critical for your business? Here, August shares three reasons why taking care of yourself and your teams means that your business will maintain an edge over the competition.
A Pivotal Role In Business Health
For every benefit of being your own boss, there is a cost. Weigh gain, high levels of unmanaged stress, and chronic fatigue, are just a few of the ways entrepreneurs may neglect their bodies in order to grow their business. According to August, this way of operating not only affects the well-being of entrepreneurs but will also ultimately trickle down into the health of the company. Incorporating a schedule of consistent physical activity that challenges you helps. She says, Its kind of similar to what they say on airplanes, You need to put your oxygen mask on before supporting those around you. Learning to fight through the doubts and obstacles in class or at the gym is the best training ground for building a resilient and determined mindset in your day-to-day lifestyle. Making yourself a priority will allow you to maximize your energy and increase your ability to care of your customers, clients and staff.
Develop Laser-Like Focus
Mental acuity is sharpness of the mind. For sustainable entrepreneurship, being able to concentrate and understand the problem or task at hand, maintain focus and good memory are essential. All of these are driven and improved by stimulating different parts of the brain through exercise. Dr. Joe Kottoor, a chiropractor and rehab specialist who has worked with several Olympic athletes and Toronto Raptors players says exercise is one of the best, easiest and cheapest ways of doing it. Theres research studies that show that [exercise] increases the size of the hippocampus- that area of the brain which is involved in memory and learning. Another one is the pre-frontal cortex, which is the frontal lobe, he says, Its apart of the brain which is highly involved in Executive function. Creativity, problem solving, comprehension and perseverance are important attributes to have as a leader.
Build A Strong Team
Working on tight deadlines or simply trying to manage a multitude of responsibilities each day is not only a challenge for owners but is tough on their teams as well. Research has found that exercise has tremendous benefits on peoples overall mood and ability to tackle their daily to-do lists. Findings from a study showed that people who exercised during work hours reported that their concentration increased by 21% and furthermore, 41% felt more motivated on days they worked out. At SPINCO, August notices more companies such as start-ups and even large investment organizations have begun to bring their teams in for group workouts. She notes, I think just getting to that first class and proving yourself wrong is a huge first step for employers and staff. Dr. Kottoor also recognizes this as an important element of creating a better work culture, Employees that move are happier and more productive. Whether youre the CEO of a company or youre at the entry level, if you encourage people to move, then we see an improvement in individual happiness but also in work productivity.
