A retail center sprouting up not far from the Tustin blimp hangars and the District of Tustin is focusing on family, wellness and casual but trendy food, things you cant necessarily experience online.

By the fall, fitness studios, a grocery store and restaurants all will open at the Village at Tustin Legacy. The 250,000-square-feet development, at the corner of Edinger Avenue and Kensington Park Drive, will open in October, built with a nod to farmhouse style. Modern medical buildings will open later.

John Mehigan, an executive with Regency Centers, the centers developer, said Tustin Legacy will focuson tenants that offer an experience.

Retail that can be replaced by the Internet is suffering, Mehigan said. Were trying to give an experience with great architecture, places to hang out and good people.

The center is just a five-minute drive from the District of Tustin and the Tustin/Irvine MarketPlace centers. Mehigan said Tustin Legacy will differentiate itself by being a destination for locals without clothing retailers found in nearby centers.

Our goal was to create a convenient neighborhood center people can get in and out of quickly, Mehigan said.

Key anchors include:

Stater Bros. Market, which the developer said is double the size of another nearby Stater Bros. grocery store.

The Hoag Health Center will include primary care, an urgent care clinic, imaging services, physical therapy and specialty care. It will open in spring 2018.

Food tenants with leases: Chipotle Mexican Grill, Dunkin Donuts, Yogurtland, The Pizza Press, Burger Boss, Ahipoki Bowl and Board & Brew.

In addition to food, the center will also have a Great Foundations Montessori, Club Pilates, Lee Spa Nails, CVS and Bank of America.

Great Foundations Montessori, CVS and Bank of America will open in September, ahead of the centers grand opening.

The center is part of the overall Tustin Legacy community, which comprises 4,600 homes on 1,600 acres at the former Marine Corps Air Station.

Mehigan said there is still room for two morefood tenants and two more medical tenants. He said a bakery and a tea shop are among options being considered.

Stephen Colbert Mocks President Trump’s Wacky Anti-Fitness Theory – Daily Beast

Donald Trumps bizarre views on health and physical fitness are, by this point, fairly well-documented. He told Dr. Oz he feels the same age as Tom Brady. He enjoys eating fast food because of its cleanliness. His doctor once even penned a note, in suspiciously Trumpian language, claiming that the real estate mogul would be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.

Yes, this guy. Healthier than this guy. And this guy. Likely story.

And this week, reports resurfaced about how, in their book Trump Revealed, authors Mike Kranisch and Marc Fisher wrote on Trumps unique theory of energy:

After college, after Trump mostly gave up his personal athletic interests, he came to view time spent playing sports as time wasted. Trump believed the human body was like a battery, with a finite amount of energy, which exercise only depleted. So he didnt work out. When he learned that John ODonnell, one of his top casino executives, was training for an Ironman triathlon, he admonished him, You are going to die young because of this.

Enter Stephen Colbert. At the age of 70, Trump doesnt have the energy of a childin part cause he doesnt believe in exercise. According to The Washington Post, Donald Trump believes the human body is like a battery, with a finite amount of energy, which exercise only depleted, said the funnyman during his Wednesday night Late Show monologue. He added, OK, good news, kids, theres going to be a new presidential physical fitness test. See that rope? Dont touch it. There, you passed.

Of course, the human body actually becomes stronger with exercise. But not according to the president of the United States.

That, of course, is not how Donald Trump sees it. Apparently, Trump thinks a person is born with a finite amount of energy, which, may I point out, by that logic would mean the strongest people in the world are biggies, joked Colbert.

Though I suppose we should have seen his anti-exercise thing coming, he continued. After all, one of the first things Trump did was replace Michelle Obamas Lets Move campaign with his own: Lets Not.

The Late Show host has, as you probably know, been locked in a war of words with the president ever since Colbert cracked on his late-night program: In fact, the only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putins cock holster. Trumps online troll army then got the hashtag #FireColbert to trend on Twitter; Colbert refused to apologize; Trump called him filthy and a no-talent guy in an interview with Time; and then the comedian, as is his wont, took a victory lap.

The presidents response to this latest jab will, in all likelihood, involve the least amount of energy possible.

Get Outside: Crown Fitness gives outdoor fitness a personal touch – Citizentribune

Its never too late to start living a healthier life.

No matter if its your first time exercising in a while or youre a veteran of your local gym, owners and founders of Crown Fitness Andy and Cristi Coats have the right workout for every walk of life.

Crown Fitness, founded in Morristown last year and quickly growing to surrounding counties, wants to help you get out of your house and breathe the fresh air.

The company specializes in outdoor group fitness and has a different, more personalized approach than most gyms.

We like to consider our personal trainers as coaches, Andy said. Its different than the boot camp mentality that some gyms practice. Our coaches are right there working out with the group and provides people with someone to talk to beyond just the workout.

Crown Fitness has a variety of workout routines of varying intensities for all types of participants. Sessions are held Monday through Saturday in one-hour increments. It offers both early morning and evening sessions, to meet the needs of most peoples work schedule.

Andy and Cristi recognized the need for outdoor fitness in the area after moving to Morristown from Louisiana a few years back.

Both are avid mountain climbers and Andy said he has a passion for adventure fitness. Their goal was to change the industry for their clients and provide them a more natural exercise experience.

Our first goal was to hire a good team that was community minded and had a coaching mentality, Cristi said.

They opened their workout sessions to clients in July, and interest region-wide continued to grow.

We have seen a huge interest in the Knoxville market, and we hope to have coaches leading sessions there, in Johnson City and in White Pine soon, Andy said.

Its website, http://www.crownfitness.com, provides information on where sessions are being held each day and how to sign up.

If you are not sure if outdoor fitness is right for you, the Coats encourage everyone to at least give it a try.

We offer a free workout and assessment for anyone that wants to try it out, Andy said.

Crown Fitness is largely operating via social media and word of mouth. Andy said having coaches with a positive mindset and outlook on life helps spread the meaning of what the company is trying to accomplish.

Our exercises provide a community culture in addition to your personal fitness goals, he said. Our coaches provide direction, camaraderie and encouragement throughout their work.

Cristi said since July, clients have provided a positive feedback on the outdoor workout routine.

People generally come 3-4 times each week, she said. We encourage everyone to go at their own pace and keep a smile on their face. Anybody can benefit from these sessions.

They said individual coaches determine a different session each day, which generally includes fun activities.

Every workout is different, Cristi said. Coaches are out each day to help and encourage people.

Andy hopes to be able to plan trail runs, mountain climbs and hikes with interested groups in the near future.

Andy and Cristi encourage people of all ages and wellness to enjoy the outdoors and try their hand at an exercise session.

Our vision is to get people outside, Andy said. We use fitness as a vehicle to make that happen.

He said if anyone is interested in coming out to a session, Dress comfortably and bring a bottle of water and an exercise mat, if you have one.

Crown fitness is also looking for people interested in joining its coaching team.

For more information on becoming a coach or signing up for an exercise session, visit its website or call 318-617-7735.

Brain Fitness – ATD (blog)

Unique neurological design and understanding the drivers that optimize your brain performance is the key to development and performance optimization. Effective and successful people manage their neurodesign and the drivers that optimize it, so they can get what they want and become who they can be.

Because of our genetic coding, there will naturally always be one hemisphere, brain region, or sensory organ that will lead and be preferred because of neurological dominance. However, you can and should develop the other hemisphere, brain regions, and senses to process information and perform equally.

Unfortunately, our world has always had a dualistic approach, suggesting one thingorthe other. You are either left hemisphere or right hemisphere oriented, expressive or receptive, rational or emotional. This produces a limiting view of who we are. Dualism does not accommodate the concept that you are a whole-brained person who can do whatever is expected of you. The better perspective should be one of inclusivenessyou are left hemisphereandright hemisphere, expressiveandreceptive, rationalandemotional. One region may lead because it is dominant, but the other region can function as effectively as the dominant region. When all brain regions are firing on all cylinders simultaneously, there is a multiplication effect that optimizes your brains performance to enable you to get the most out of your brain.

Your brain has the potential to help you do whatever life requires of you. It has unlimited potential in terms of what you can learn, think, and create. Sometimes a person may not appear to act like someone with unlimited potential, because there may be an absence or lack of drivers that optimize their performance. To optimize your brain performance and enable all hemispheres, lobes, and brain regions to function simultaneously as one functional whole-brained system, you need to provide it with the right physical and mental stimulation and create the right conditions to thrive. There are eight driversbrain fitness, sleep, stress, diet, mindset, movement, cognitive skills, and physical environmentthat can negatively or positively influence your brains performance. To get the most out of your whole brain, it is essential that you know how these drivers influence your neurological design and learn appropriate skills to optimize these drivers.

Brain fitness is about utilizing all brain regions simultaneously as one functional three-dimensional unit. You are not born brain fit. It is something that you need to develop and maintain through regular physical exercises and mental stimulation. Lack of brain fitness will result in alternating between hemispheres rather than processing information simultaneously, causing you to think, learn, and process information longer, slower, and harder. Optimizing your brain fitness will result in ease of learning, thinking faster and smarter, and processing information more effectively.

Your brain fitness skill set consists of a combination of physical cross-lateral exercises and mental activities that help produce neurotrophins and neurotransmitters, activate mental integrative states, and promote cerebrospinal circulation on a daily basis.

During the ATD 2017 International Conference & Exposition, the topic of brain fitness will be presented in the form of an innogizer called the Brain Boogie, which will explain the complex concept of brain fitness in an understandable and enjoyable way. Join us on Monday, May 22, at 4:30 p.m. to experience what brain fitness is all about.

How to Set Fitness Goals You’ll Actually Achieve – Entrepreneur

In any aspect of life, settinggoals is necessary to achieve success. In the 1960s, pioneering goal-setting researcher Dr. Edwin Locke found that employees were much more likely to be both productive and motivated when they were given a clear objective. Goal-setting increases a persons desire to achieve, and the same can be said of fitness ambitions. Follow these steps and set clear, concise goals for yourself. Once you do, youll be well on your way to a healthier routine.

SMART is an acronym championed by everyone from the University of Virginia to MIT to Fortune 500 companies for how to set actionable goals. Objectives should beSpecific,Measurable,Accountable,Realistic and have aTimeframe.Specific goals will keep you accountable. Lose weight is too vague. Lose 15 pounds in six months gives you much more directionand allows you to have a way to measure your progress.

Accountability is important in goal-setting. Studies are torn on whether you should tell people your intentions -- some say it will make you more accountable; others say it opens you up for judgement, making you less likely to follow through. Decide what method of accountability works best for you -- whether thats telling a friend so that he or she can become a workout partneror keeping to yourself and setting a phone calendar alarm to remind yourself to exercise -- and stick to it.

Regardless of which option you choose, you should writedown your goals. Place your fitness objectives in a place you can see them -- on a bulletin board oryour computer desktop -- to constantly remind yourself to work toward them.

Once youve set your goal, you need to come up with a plan that emphasizes consistent effort. The idea of goal-setting is to challenge yourself each time you set out to work toward your larger goal. Setting up smaller, intermediate check points will help you track your progress and keep you motivated to work out on a regular basis. Remember: slow and steady wins the race.Small wins equate to big results. When people set out to run a marathon, they dont immediately run 26.2 miles. They increase their mileage every week. Channel that same mentality as you set up a plan that allows you to realistically achieve your goal.

Be mindful of how your body feels as you work toward your objective. Its important to realize when you need to scale your efforts --up or down. For example, if your resting heart rate rises, this could be a sign that youre exerting yourself too much and could use a less stressfulworkload. If youre never sore, or you dont notice changes in your body after a few weeks, that could indicate that your goal isnt challenging you enough.

A time-tested way to stay accountableis to track your progress. So, you could include your days fitness achievements in your planner. Or, maybe it works better for you to download apps that track your fitness for youRun Keeper and Nike+ Run Club both save your fitness progress, whether that be running, jogging or cycling. Consider investing in wearable technology that gives you a better idea of your overall health.

However you do it, monitoring your fitness will help you stay on track to achieve your goal.

You cant control what the future will hold, so delaying your goals may render them unachievable one day. Theres no time like the present to start living a healthier life.

Setting specific fitness goals will ensureyoull jumpstart your routine and achieve a lifestylethats right for you. Follow the above tips to keep yourself on track as you work toward creating a healthier life.

Cannabis and Fitness: Which Routines Pair Best With a High? – Leafly

Fitness is an important part of a healthy routine, and there are plenty of ways to stay active in a digital world where its all too tempting to live a stationary life. For avid cannabis consumers, the myth of the couch-potato, Cheeto-poppin pothead is an outdated stereotype regulated to old films seeking cheap laughs. Cannabis consumers are as varied as they come, and as such there are plenty of people who both toke and enjoy taking care of their health.

That said, there are some workouts that may pair better with a high than others. For example, many may find an intense gym workoutsuch as CrossFitto be arduous and taxing after a smoke. This is especially discouraging for those who use cannabis medicinally, and may not be able to plan their workout schedule around their medication schedule.

Three Things Everyone Should Know About Cannabis and Exercise

Fortunately, there are many healthy activities that pair great with a toke, and whether youre a stoner whos been committed to working out for a while, or someone who is still trying to find their stride in the fitness world, the following activities are fun ways to get active after getting stoned.

Yoga is uniquely suited to cannabis, in that the true goal of yoga is a mental, not physical one. The poses in yoga, known as asanas, are a tool to guide the mind into savasanaa state of meditation. As many can attest, cannabis elicits a similar state of mind.

The asanas create space in the body, stretch tight muscles, build strength, increase flexibility, and get the blood pumping. Yoga is especially suitable in this way for those who have stationary and low-energy jobs, such as desk-workers.

Yoga, Cannabis, and You: 6 Best Practices for Pairing Yoga with Marijuana

In addition, the great thing about yoga is that it can be modified to any skill level, and the practice is not limited to those who are thin, young, strong, or already flexible. Pay no mind to Instagram posts of grandiose handstands and backbendsyoga is a practice for every body, and the heart of yoga lies not in what you can do, but what you can feel.

Yoga is a wonderful way to get active, bring movement to the body, and embrace a more peaceful state of mind.

Jogging is an easy and effective way to get moving and add cardio to a routine. Not only does jogging encourage good health, but if done outside, it can be a great way to get some fresh air and vitamin D. It pairs nicely with cannabis because it is another exercise that can be easily modified to ones skill level or headspace, and the activity has no set end point, so jog for as little or long as is comfortable.

RELATED STORY

The Runners High and the Endocannabinoid System

Beginners may want to start with short, light runs lasting 10 to 15 minutes and work their way up to longer runs. Some may enjoy setting a new goal each day, such as running an extra kilometer, or to a new landmark.

Some things to consider before taking up jogging are proper sun protection, well-fitting jogging shoes, staying hydrated, and of course, motivational music.

Bicycling is an effective and joyous way to get up and get moving. With a good bike, its easy to get out riding, increasing blood flow and cardio. Once again, bicycling can be modified to be as low or high impact as desired. On the high end, theres cycling, where one can join a group and compete in races. On the low end, theres taking a bike out around the neighborhood or on localtrails.

In addition to being a good workout that can get the heart rate going and increase strength, bicycling can be a very refreshing activity. Fresh air, wind whipping through your hair, sun shining through dappled trees, and the playful adrenaline rush of zipping down a trail is good not just for the body but also for the mind. This makes it an excellent choice for a cannabis-friendly workout. Just keep in mind that if youll be biking anywhere near traffic, youll want to keepyour dose low and your wits about you.

Hooping, also known as hula-hooping, is a very fun way to get moving and improve cardiovascular health, hand-eye coordination, flexibility, blood flow, and even strength. This is an activity which can be done almost anywhere (though beware of crowded venues), and is an exercise that in addition to improving health, is also a blast to share with friends and family. It can even be done professionally in performances, with enough practice.

The first thing one needs is a good hoopnot any store-bought hoop will do. There are multiple hoopsmiths on sites like Etsy who can make a custom hoop to your specifications. Choose one with good reviews. The hoops come in all sorts of lovely colors and even in an LED variety. Beginners should opt for a heavier hoop of 3/4 in HDPE or polypro of a size 35 diameter or larger. The larger the hoop, the slower it moves, and thus the easier it is to learn and practice various tricks and moves.

RELATED STORY

What Are the Best Cannabis Strains for Meditation?

Hooping goes far beyond waist hooping, and there are hundreds of free tutorials on YouTube that can teach multiple fun moves such as chest hooping, breaks and paddles, knee hooping, isolations, and more. Once some basic moves are down, its easy to put them all together in a fun cardio workout set to your favorite music.

Hooping pairs well with cannabis because it is a creative, fun workout that can be as gentle or kick-ass-cardio as desired. With some practice, anyone can become a skilled hooperand have a fun, creative way to stay active.
