EXCLUSIVE: Andik plans to get back to full fitness during fasting month – Yahoo Sports
BY ZULHILMI ZAINAL Follow onTwitter
Selangor's Indonesian star Andik Vermansyah has said that he almost close to achieving full fitness again, and he intends to use the coming Ramadan fasting month to get fully fit.
When met by Goal on Friday, the winger told us that he is 90 per centfit, and is eager to be registered in the competitions squad by the Red Giants.
"Praise Allah, my injury is fully healed. But in terms of fitness, I am lacking that final 10 per cent.
"If I do get registered by the team in the transfer window, we then have the (Super League) matches against Sarawak and Pahang, and then the break for Ramadan.
"I can work even more on my fitness during that period," explained the 25-year old winger.
The football season in Malaysia, a Muslim-majority country, takes a month-long break every year during the Islamic month of Ramadan, when Muslims are required to refrain from eating and drinking during the day.
When asked about his long lay-off back in Indonesia, Andik responded that his injury was treated wellby the Indonesian FA. He suffered an ACL injury in December last year, while playing for his home country in the 2016 AFF Cup.
"I got the injury while playing for the national team, so they took care of everything. The FA handled it profesionally; my operation as well as physiotherapy.
"I then trained on my own, which was tough at first, but it got easier over time," answered Andik.
But the former Persebaya star finally let on, that amidst his rehabilitation, he still had time to catch up with his old friends, and he even played a little football with them.
"I trained, worked on my rehabilitation, but I had a lot of friends back home.
"So I did have a kickabout with them everyday, I couldn't simply sit around and do nothing!" he said with a sly grin.

Hastings on Georgia Street to be replaced by Crunch Fitness – Amarillo.com
Comic books and action figures are out and fitness classes and protein shakes are soon to be in at the former Hastings store just south of West Interstate 40.
Crunch Fitness signed a lease on April 25 to open at 2020 S. Georgia St., according to franchisee Brian Hibbard. Renovations to the 28,000-square foot building will begin in June for an Oct. 1 opening.
Coldwell Banker real estate agent Justin Kite, who facilitated the lease, said he had been deluged with prospected lessors since Hastings closed at the end of October. Kite considered leasing to multiple tenants and forming a shopping center, as developer Brian Shinall is doing at the former Hastings store on Gem Lake Road, but decided Crunch was the best fit.
The Georgia area from I-40 to 26th (Avenue) is red-hot right now, Kite said. All the national retailers are looking at that area, and theres not a lot of open real estate over there.
The New York-based workout chain has gyms in Addison, Brownsville and Laredo, plus more than 200 around the rest of the U.S. Hibbard said he plans to open locations in Lubbock and Midland in the next 18 months.
Crunch Fitness will be less than half a mile from Gold Gyms when completed, and a mile-and-a-half from Planet Fitness. Hibbard said his $3 million gym, with memberships priced between $9.95 and $49.95, serves a similarly wide range of clientele looking for everything from beginners workouts to serious weight training.
(Golds) has a high membership base and so does Planet Fitness. We tend to pull a lot from them because were a shiny new toy, Hibbard said. Were really high-energy, got the music turned up loud inside.
Each Crunch gym includes a full tanning salon, as well as child care and a range of company-specific workout classes. Hibbard is the owner/franchisor of South Beach Tanning Company, an Orlando-based tanning salon chain with 50 locations in 10 states.
Memberships with all of the gyms amenities, which normally go for $49.95 per month, will be available for $29.95 per month with no start-up fees during the pre-sale period beginning on July 1.

Tips to gain confidence at the fitness club – Foster’s Daily Democrat
By Melissa EricksonMore Content Now
Gym-timidation is a real thing. If you're not comfortable and confident, it can be hard to walk through the door to the fitness club. It affects both fitness novices and experienced pros who are new to a class or a complicated machine.
If you're struggling, you're not alone. Rachel Prairie, live programming coach at Anytime Fitness, offers some advice on how to overcome gym anxiety and gain the confidence to get fit.
How to start
"There are many gyms, and like choosing a hotel or restaurant, the options can be overwhelming. You know you need to make your health a priority, but how do you possibly choose?" Prairie said. "Joining a friend's or family member's gym may be just the push you need to get started (because we all know it's a little easier to get your butt there when you're accountable to someone else), but there are a handful of other important things to keep in mind."
Consider this your trusty checklist so you can feel confident and comfortable when you shop for a gym.
1. Is it near your home or office? Convenience is king.
2. Is it open when you want to go? Much like convenience of location, if you can't access the gym at a time that is conducive to your schedule, it will be hard to stick to a routine.
3. Would you feel comfortable around the people? Choose a gym that is welcoming and full of people just like you.
5. Do you have enough support? You're not just looking at the gym-goers. Consider the staff and other resources as well.
6. Does it offer the equipment and amenities you want?
7. Is it clean? Be sure to visit during high-traffic times and see how the gym looks.
8. Does it fit into your budget? It's what most newbies consider first, but it's one of many considerations.
Confidence will come
"When you join a gym, don't think twice about what other people are thinking. Just walk in with an open mind. I hope you realize that everyone is welcome there. If you see someone at the gym who deserves a compliment, don't be shy. You might just make their day," Prairie said.
Get fit gear
"There's really no right or wrong way to dress for the gym, formal wear aside, of course. Whether it's an oversized T-shirt and shorts or a color-coordinated outfit, you want your gym bag filled with options that are comfortable, flattering, flexible and make you feel good," Prairie said.
Here are some other things to think about when creating your ideal workout wardrobe:
1. Could you go for a walk in it?
"If you're just getting started on your fitness journey, you may have some reservations about the process. Wear something that you could see yourself walking down the street in comfortably," she said.
2. How many days a week are you working out?
"I work out five days a week, which means I have five great workout ensembles (top, pants/shorts, sports bra, socks, etc.) to last me until the next wash cycle," Prairie said.
3. Make sure you like what you're wearing.
"You'll read articles about the proper material to wear or what pants work the best. Bottom line: If you don't feel comfortable in your clothes, you won't want to leave the house, let alone walk into the gym. Choose clothes that are lightweight, made of breathable material and aren't too far outside of your comfort zone," she said.
4. Protect your feet.
"This may seem obvious, but choose shoes based on the kind of exercise you're doing. It's important for form, comfort and injury prevention. For instance, you wouldn't wear a hiking shoe to walk on a treadmill. Don't be afraid to ask for help when choosing a shoe. And pick something that fits your personality, which will make them even easier to wear," Prairie said.
Fitness may be hard, but the journey is worth it.
"Gather things that inspire and motivate you like success stories," Prairie said.

Spin class at Vive fitness center benefits Habitat for Humanity – Wilkes Barre Times-Leader
KINGSTON More than five dozen attendees made their way to Vive Health and Fitness Saturday morning, ready to sweat it out for a good cause.
The gym held its second annual Spin for Habitat, offering three spinning classes to help benefit the Wyoming Valley Habitat for Humanity. Classes were 50 minutes of high-intensity resistance training and designed for all levels of cyclers, ranging from long-distance to hills and intervals. Instructors Diane Butwin and Sean Tompkins headed the groups.
The event was created to go in part with the Spencer Martin Memorial Bike Ride for Habitat, which will take place Sunday in the Back Mountain. In its ninth year, the 35-mile bike ride was created in memory of Spencer Martin, who was an avid Habitat for Humanity volunteer and former organization president.
While Martin wasnt involved in the cycling community, Wyoming Valley Habitat Executive Director Karen Evans Kaufer said the organization wanted to find a way to honor his memory and continue the organizations mission, and the bike ride was born. To honor Martin and assist Habitat for Humanity, Martins daughter and granddaughter, Kim and Hillary Koehl, attended one of the spinning sessions at Vive and were greeted with applause from attendees.
In the Wyoming Valley for the past 25 years, the Habitat for Humanity builds simple, decent homes to sell to families who would not qualify for homeownership otherwise. Traditionally, the organization builds at least one house per year, with more than 25 homes built in the area overall.
Currently, Habitat is working on a house in Parsons, then moving to a Pittston location upon its completion. The organization relies on volunteers for labor and donated materials to build the homes, which helps keep the selling costs low and mortgages manageable for recipients.
Another source of funding for the Wyoming Valley Habitat is their ReStore. Located in Nanticoke, the Restore sells unused donated building materials for the projects at a steep discount, supplying buyers with great deals and helping to continue funding for more homes.
Habitat is a hand up not a hand out, Kaufer said. I think a lot of people have the impression that we give these houses away for free, and that is not what we do. Our homeowners have a stake in their homeownership, they pay a mortgage just like you and me, and theyve contributed these many hours of sweat equity they need to have a downpayment. We want people that own our homes to be invested in their community.
Sweat equity, she said, is what the program calls the 200 hours of volunteer labor an applicant must complete on building their home before sealing the deal. Once the hours are complete, the hours translate into a down payment and the applicant can then become a homeowner. While recipients of a Habitat home do pay a mortgage, they have a zero-interest rate, with all payments funding the next house being built.
Kaufer also added that aside from the sweat equity, an intensive application also comes with a home, adding that the process can take roughly one year to complete. It includes various background checks and interviews with family members, friends and more. Applicants must also earn between 30 to 60 percent of the countys median income and live within Luzerne County for at least a year, she said.
This is not a quick-fix. Its not an emergency housing fix for anyone. Its someone who can dedicate the time and energy into helping build their own home, she said.
As members of the second group came out of the spinning class sweaty, a new group was ready to go in for the third and final class of the day.
Habitat for Humanity Vice President and Vive member Kevin Engelman thanked the attendees and explained how their contribution will help someone in the Wyoming Valley get their first home. An admitted lover of cycling, Engelman said it made sense to add an indoor cycling event to the outdoor bike ride.
We wanted to provide a component that would allow riders who dont ride outside to come in and enjoy a great facility, and really allow more people to enjoy and help out the community, he said of the event. So we brought the Wyoming Valley Habitat and Vive together last year and were able to start the indoor event here, and its really taken off.
He said that the community has had a great response to both events, bringing in both indoor and outdoor cyclists, as well as regular residents.
Vive general manager Heather Stearns said the fitness center is more than happy to participate in community events, and is honored to assist the Wyoming Valley Habitat for Humanity.
Vive is very big with doing community events that sponsor whole and health wellness, she said. This is our second year working with Habitat to give back to community, to help a deserving family of community get a home that may not be able to otherwise.

New Chandler gym offers fitness at ‘basketball heaven’ – East Valley Tribune
A new gym that just opened in Chandler offers a fitness program like none other in the East Valley.
This is the first basketball-focused fitness center, said Jay Bhakta, the Gilbert man who owns PickUp USA at 221 E. Willis Road.
While many gyms provide basketball courts, PickUp USA offers organized, scored and officiated games by trained referees.
It allows you to play on a team during timed, 10-minute games, said Bhakta. Were the first franchisee here in Arizona. Were expanding all over the U.S. right now.
We run officiated games six days a week. We have two trained officials at all times on the court, rotated out. So, theyre fresh referees. Its highly organized.
Members simply put their name on a list, and are rotated into games.
You get a real-game experience, added Bhakta. You get the buzzer beaters, the shot clocks, the fouls.
There are 10-minute games so the winner stays in and you reset the clock and the next game comes in 10 minutes, 10 minutes, back-to-back.
PickUp USA doesnt have all the nuances of a regular pickup game like at a park the foul calls, the hacking, the arguments and whos next, he added.
Pickup games are for anyone 15 and older but anyone as young as 5 can become a member and have access to the courts.
We have the group-training sessions available to them, said Bhakta. They are basketball focused, hour-long boot camps. So, they work on different parts of the game for that hour: shooting, dribbling, passing.
Gustine Crispin is already a member along with her sons.
First of all, I love basketball, Crispin said. Ive been playing basketball for over 40 years. And now I have kids. My boys are 13 and 11. And this is a great place for them This is a basketball heaven.
Her older son Jamison, who goes by Jam, has been playing basketball four years and likes the idea of getting a workout and fine-tuning his skills at a gym.
I like it, Jam said. Plus, I usually dont sweat when I go somewhere, but now Im sweating a lot.
He just wishes there were pickup games for his age group because he has a goal of making it big: I will be an NBA player.
PickUp USA General Manager Steven Lancaster played professional basketball in Europe for six years after college.
Basketball in itself has been a huge part of my life, Lancaster said. It has helped me get a scholarship for school so no student debt, so thats a big thing. It helped me travel, not just the country, but in the world as well, playing in different tournaments and playing basketball overseas.
He also played basketball with NBA All-Star LeBron James in high school.
In high school, we were on the same Amateur Athletic Union team. We were teammates when we were 15 all the way to seniors in high school.
Lancaster has been playing basketball since he was 5, but tried other sports such as football, baseball and martial arts.
As a freshman in high school, he was 53. But he had a growth spurt and grew to his current 63 by his sophomore year.
Once I started to dunk a basketball, then basketball took my heart, said Lancaster, who grew up in Ohio. From there, I went to polish my skills and my craft and that turned into being an All-State performer, being rated one of the top players in the state. That translated to scholarship offers. From there, that translated into being a professional.
After voluntarily leaving professional basketball, Lancaster became a trainer.
So when this opportunity came about, I told myself, what better way to continue my love of basketball into something to give back to other people? he said, adding:
It kind of works out best in both worlds to kind of be the face of a place that is basketball and also to be able to train and to develop athletes, as well, so they can get whatever goals they want out of basketball.
Lancaster prides himself in teaching things not taught by other trainers and coaches. He says he approaches training in a way that translates into a game situation.
These young athletes who come here, they are entrusting us with the most important part of their life, which is their sport. Granted, they all go to school but for most athletes, the thing they love most is their sport.
He not only holds himself to high standards, but the staff as well.
Everybody who trains with me or anybody at PickUp USA, I challenge them to challenge our trainers. If they cant give you an answer, then they shouldnt be here, and thats me included.
Sonal Patel isnt a member but is thinking about it. She dropped by to check out the new facility.
I think the concept is actually brilliant, Patel said. When I was in school, we played pickup at the park, wherever we could find a half court. Ive been looking for a gym centered on being able to play pickup games and focuses strictly on basketball.
She even jokes that when parents drop their kids off to play basketball, they no longer have an excuse not to work since the gym also offers a full fitness center.
Aside from that, Patel added, Team sports in general do such a great job at building confidence in kids. And having another avenue to have an opportunity to do that for your kids is great. And its probably more affordable than private club basketball and tournaments. I think its a great idea.
Gym membership is $29.95 a month and includes access to the full cardio and full-weight rooms with the free weights plus access to the basketball courts. For pickup games, the monthly fee is $59.95.
The pickup games are scheduled six days a week: Monday-Thursday, 6-10 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
For ages five and up, members get access to the courts year-round, seven days a week. They also get the group-training sessions, which run at various times throughout the week.
If you have any ounce of interest in basketball, this is the place for you, said Bhakta. If you even slightly love shooting rounds, playing basketball, its for everybody. Any skill level, any age, its for everyone.

Ex-cons are teaching fitness classes at Saks Fifth Avenue – New York Post
Venerable Midtown department store Saks Fifth Avenue is clearing the clothing racks and turning its second floor into a pop-up health-and-wellness mecca called the Saks Wellery.
The 16,000-square-foot space, which opens Monday, is like a healthy-living food court, with over 20 different vendors hawking everything from boutique fitness classes, athleisure gear for men and women, beauty products, exercise equipment, manicures, meditation and even salt rooms.
We started looking into [how] our customers were living their lives and what they were looking for when they had free time, says Roopal Patel, Saks fashion director. Its not just about what you put on the outside of your body thats important, but how you treat the inside of your body. In other words, after sweating away those extra pounds in a Tracy Anderson class on Saks second floor, you can fit into the Rag & Bone jeans it sells three floors up.
Before they started construction on the new space which had housed contemporary, ready-to-wear and designer collections the folks at Saks created a comprehensive list of their favorite wellness-related brands, including Care/of (customized vitamins); Breathe Salt Rooms (for dry salt therapy); Blink Brow Bar; Sundays Nail Studio (vegan and non-toxic manicures and massages), Skinney Medspa (laser hair removal); and Peloton bikes.
Fitness options include Bendable Body (stretching); ModelFit (exercise), a Victorias Secret Angel favorite; Bari Studio (dance and conditioning); and Drive 495 (personalized training).
The Wellery even includes Conbody, a prison-style boot camp taught by rehabilitated convicts. Founder Coss Marte was speaking at a wellness event in February when a Saks executive approached him about joining their new concept.
I literally said, Fk yeah, and we got the process moving, says Marte who has a popular studio on the Lower East Side.
People will be able to book classes through the MindBody app, and there will also be a fitness concierge on hand to help schedule appointments.
There are no showers, but the changing rooms will be stocked with shower wipes.
The pop-up remains open through Oct. 31, when the space will turn into a floor for beauty products.
