Inaugural health and fitness fair draws a crowd – Savannah Morning News

More than 15 health and fitness services and products providers converged in Richmond Hill Saturday for the inaugural Georgia Game Changers Health and Fitness Fair.

With tents set up in the parking lot for home-based businesses and all the vendors of the Georgia Game Changers Health and Fitness Complex with their doors open the afternoon was designed to be a one-stop health and fitness event by organizer Sandra Elliott.

We have every business on our property participating in some way, introducing people to some aspect of their business health, fitness, bicycle safety checks, a chiropractor, physical therapy we have everything from injury screenings to shoe demos from one end of the building to the other.

But besides just introducing people to the businesses on the property we also invited some other small businesses in the community, home based health and fitness providers, so that we could kind of spread the love and find out what other things we dont know about that are here in Richmond Hill, Elliott said.

Because I knew of a lot of home based businesses that needed to get the word out about what they do. I really wanted to kind of do a combination event featuring all those things.

Services offered and displayed included bicycle fitting, karate, basketball, reflexology, a chiropractor, injury screening, a physical therapist offering video gait analysis and more.

We have everything from food and nutrition samples to cosmetics. We have a new reflexologist in town who is here. A lot of time you live in a town and you think you know all of whats going on but a lot of times you dont know whats happening in the background. We thought the Game Changer complex was the perfect place to kind of bring all those things together in one place, said Elliott

For anyone who missed the Health and Fitness Fair last week Elloitt is planning more.

We feel like this is just the start and that it will grow from year to year. This is from one end of the building to the other I would like to see it go all the way out the front of the property, she said.

Peeping Tom sneaks into Planet Fitness ceiling to spy on nude wom – Palm Beach Post

NORFOLK, Va.

A man confessed to spying on more than a dozen nude or changing women at a Planet Fitness gym in Virginia during interviews with police earlier this year, according to court documents obtained this week.

Norfolk police arrested James Eddy, 40, March 23 on two counts of peeping into an occupied dwelling.

Eddy admitted to recording between 15 and 20 women who were nude and using tanning beds at Planet Fitness on East Little Creek Road, court documents obtained by WVEC showed.

Eddy told police that he managed to get into the ceiling above the gyms tanning beds, where he videotaped the women with a camcorder that fit in his palm, WVEC reported.

A Planet Fitness member identified only as Lanie told Southside Daily that she called police after she spotted the peeping Toms fingers pushing through a ceiling tile on Jan. 11.

I was only wearing underwear at the time, she told the newspaper in January. I had just stepped out of the tanning bed nearly nude and was putting my clothes back on when I heard a sound above me.

A police officer confronted Eddy on Jan. 30 about his possible involvement in the peeping, the Southside Daily reported, citing court records. Eddy admitted to getting into the ceiling to spy on women in the gyms tanning rooms and confessed again on Feb. 14 during a polygraph examination, authorities said.

He told police that he spied on women between December 2016 and January 2017. He told authorities that he deleted videos that were taken while he was in the ceiling and got rid of the camera he used to record them.

In a statement to Southside Daily, a Planet Fitness spokeswoman said the company is cooperating with police.

Training gets personal at SP Fitness – Sauk Prairie Eagle

Rebecca Litscher wants to put the personal back into personal training.

Her new business SP Fitness will provide people with the opportunity to get one-on-one training from Litscher, whether for weight loss, strength training, healthy living, rehabilitation after a hospital stay or other personal goal.

Litscher worked for several corporate fitness clubs over the years including Anytime Fitness both in Prairie du Sac and Waunakee. As the chain moved more toward a group training atmosphere, Litscher wanted to stick with one-on-one training for her clientele.

I just decided to break away from corporate and do training my own way, Litscher said. This way I really get to work with individuals and develop a plan that is a good fit for them. I really like the personal interaction.

SP Fitness is 650 square feet situated on two floors. The first floor is used for warm ups and nutritional consultations, which Litscher is certified in as well as personal training from the American Council of Exercise. Downstairs is where people get the bulk of their workouts with free weights, medicine balls, cable-resistance machines and more.

Litscher said her aim is to offer whole lifestyle changes for clients who seek a well-rounded approach to their personal fitness goal.

Im here to help guide and teach people how to succeed in reaching their goal and learn about their body, she said.

Its great to see empty spaces being filled in our downtown area, said Stephanie Brickl of the Sauk Prairie Chamber of Commerce. I think it will be a great business; so many people are into fitness and eating healthy. We look forward to working more with Rebecca with being part of the Chamber.

With Litscher as its only employee, SP Fitness works on an appointment-only basis. There is no membership fee; rates are based on the number of training sessions per month.

When I am with someone my attention is on them; not the next person coming through the door, she said. During workouts, the upstairs door remains locked.

In addition to individual training, Litscher also offers buddy training for anyone who may be intimidated to get started or prefers working out with a partner.

The business is for anyone ages 16 and older, at any fitness level and with any goal in mind, whether it be a high school athlete to someone on the competition level.

Or maybe its someone who just wants to be stronger; maybe they get winded going up a flight of stairs and they want to change their daily living, Litscher said.

3 Hot Health & Fitness Stocks for 2017 – Motley Fool

Health and fitness is big business in the U.S., and companies who take advantage of that trend have started to become big winners for investors. Healthy foods, health clubs, and weight-loss programs have all been growing over the past decade and show no signs of stopping.

In 2017, National Beverage Corp. (NASDAQ:FIZZ), NutriSystem Inc. (NASDAQ:NTRI), and Weight Watchers International, Inc. (NYSE:WTW) have all risen sharply, and with market trends at their backs, they look to have bright futures.

FIZZ data by YCharts.

I have to admit that I'm one of the people who helped drive National Beverage's revenue 20% higher, to $194.6 million in the most recent quarter, and helped double net income to $24.3 million. In particular, LaCroix is the fastest growing sparkling water brand, according to industry data, and high prices on health products are driving strong operating margins of 18.2% last quarter.

National Beverage has essentially filled the role in the health market that Pepsi or Coca-Cola filled in the fast-food or soda market. It's a well-known brand that has, in many ways, replaced these everyday sugary drinks for consumers. And with the health trend only gaining steam, I think the stock has a bright future.

NutriSystem and Weight Watchers are also surging on the market, primarily because they're gaining a lot of traction in their businesses. Nutrisystem's 2016 revenue jumped 18% versus a year ago, to $545.5 million, and diluted income per share jumped 34% to $1.19.

Weight Watchers' 2016 revenue was up a more modest 1.3% to $949.1 million, but net income more than doubled to $67.6 million, and earnings per share hit $1.03.

The number of customers for both companies are growing as the interest in a healthy lifestyle increases. And as they adapt and innovate new products, NutriSystem and Weight Watchers are set up to continue riding the health trend.

In the last decade, there's been a big move by consumers to healthier eating and fitness habits. There's been the growth of healthier grocery stores like Whole Foods and the decline of fast food in favor of concepts like Chipotle and Panera Bread. Even fitness clubs like Lifetime Fitness and yoga brands like Lululemon have been able to ride this wave over a long period of time.

Right now, the market loves the growth being experienced in weight loss and flavored water, and that's why National Beverage, Nutrisystem, and Weight Watchers are three of the best-performing stocks on the market in 2017. And if growth continues, their stocks may not be done moving higher.

John Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods Market, is a member of The Motley Fool's board of directors. Travis Hoium has no position in any stocks mentioned. The Motley Fool owns shares of and recommends Chipotle Mexican Grill, Lululemon Athletica, Panera Bread, and Whole Foods Market. The Motley Fool has a disclosure policy.

Tracktown Fitness participants are revving up for spring road races – The Register-Guard

Grace Miller, 12, is training for her third 5K race. On Sunday mornings, she rises just after the sun and heads to Hayward Field to run with her dad.

Colleen Milliman, 90, also trains at Hayward on Sunday mornings, toward her own goal: She wants to set a running record for 90-year-olds. TrackTown USA holds a free weekly track workout from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. each Sunday at Hayward field. The event, TrackTown Fitness, is open to anyone regardless of age, skill set or motivation.

Who brought the sun? coach Vin Lananna jokes during his pre-workout pep talk at Sundays meet-up.

The sky is uncharacteristically clear, and families and friends run side by side, laughing and smiling through their exertions.

Lananna, a former University of Oregon track coach and mens coach of the 2016 U.S. Olympic track team, runs the weekly sessions with Ian Dobson, who competed at 5,000 meters in the 2008 Summer Olympics.

We started the program because we have this great community of people who give so much to track and field, Lananna said. Its a community builder. I think all sports especially collegiate sports are community builders.

Citizen running programs organized by UO track coaches and athletes date to legendary UO track coach Bill Bowerman, whose early jogging club in Eugene and book Jogging were credited with helping to ignite the national jogging craze in the late 1960s.

The TrackTown fitness runners are the latest to join that effort.

Miller is preparing for the upcoming Eugene Marathon 5K on May 6; Milliman is training for the 5K Twilight Run in Tigard on June 24.

Milliman said the welcoming, friendly atmosphere of TrackTown Fitness keeps her coming back.

I love the people. They inspire me to do my very best, said Milliman, who started exercising when she was 75, encouraged by her son and grandson.

Participants can self-select into one of three workout groups: the joggers, the walkers and those who do both.

Birk Nelson, 43, has attended the Sunday sessions since the winter of 2015. He comes to stay in shape. The three distinct groups promote comfort, enabling participants to work out with their fitness peers, but they also provide motivation to do better.

My aspiration is to be in the run group someday, Nelson said. After a long winter of hibernation, its nice to get the body moving and have other people around to inspire you.

Alfred Lara, 64, has been attending TrackTown Fitness to condition for a fencing competition this month. Its a great workout, and its inspirational to see all these people running around at different ages and levels, Lara said.

Anne-Jenelle Williams, 49, completes a long run on Saturday and attends TrackTown Fitness on Sunday for a recovery run. She is training for the Eugene Half Marathon her third half marathon since December.

Williams ran her first half marathon in December two days after she turned 49 and she has a personal goal to complete five half marathons by the time she turns 50.

The social aspect of TrackTown Fitness keeps Williams coming back every Sunday.

Im not as quick as a lot of my running friends are, and when we work out together on the road, bike path or around town, I see them at the beginning and the end, she says. When were on the track, I get to be around them even though were running very different paces.

As the morning workout draws to a close, runners hydrate at the water station and slow down to catch their breath.

An upbeat Simple Plan song blasts across the brilliant field: Its been 28 days since Ive seen the sunshine and I know some days will be bad, but I dont wanna be sad no more.

Motivation Monday: 5 fitness myths that are holding you back – KARE

Motivation Monday: Busting fitness myths

KARE 10:25 AM. CDT April 03, 2017

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - It seems every day there's a new exercise craze, a new diet, a new supplement that promises to deliver the fitness results that have eluded you for so long.

Some of it is helpful, and some of it is just fake!

1. Working out on an empty stomach helps you lose weight

Chris says working out on an empty stomach doesn't exactly help you burn more fat. Exercise uses energy from fat and glycogen stores. But when you exercise in a fasted state, you have depleted glycogen levels, which causes your body to not only burn fat but also start to break down muscle tissue and convert it to carbohydrate for energy. This means you're losing muscle!

2. Lifting heavy weights makes you bulk up

Chris says heavy weights are good! They help you put on lean muscle, which isn't bulky, it's actually what contributes to the "toned" appearance. You're probably not going to achieve bodybuilder status unless you're also consuming massive amounts of protein.

3. You need a low-carb diet to lose weight

Chris says contrary to popular belief, carbs are not necessarily your enemy when trying to lose weight or eat healthy. There are complex carbs, like vegetables, fruit, legumes, and whole grains that are generally considered healthy.

4. Muscle weighs more than fat

Chris says a pound of muscle and a pound of fat actually weigh the same. The only difference is how they appear. A pound of muscle looks lean and dense; a pound of fat is airy like cotton candy and takes up more space.

5. Crunches are the key to flat abs

Crunches are not the only step in getting a lean tummy. Chris says you need to start by losing any excess weight that's covering up your abs. Since you can't spot-reduce body fat, this means losing weight all over. Second, you need to tone that area using a variety of abdominal exercises that target different core muscles.
