A traveler walked past the ROAM Fitness gym at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in Linthicum, Md., that opened last month. It is the only gym at a U.S. airport that is located past security checkpoints, and there are plans to open 20 more at airports by 2020.

Work out while waiting for your flight? Thats an option now at Baltimore/Washington International Airport, where the only gym at a U.S. airport past security opened last month. There are plans to open 20 more at airports by 2020.

Its the latest example of how fitness and health trends have started showing up at airports. Yoga rooms and walking tracks have opened at airports around North America over the past few years, and healthier food options are also easier to find in airports now. You can even get a kombucha to wash down a salad made with locally sourced produce.

The ROAM Fitness gym at BWI includes an attendant who monitors guests flights and will alert them if theres a delay. Theres even free luggage storage, options for renting workout clothes and shoes, and showers. Fees range from $40 a day to $175 a month.

The concept was initially envisioned for international travelers and others with long layovers, but research revealed that many other travelers wanted to squeeze in a workout before or after landing.

A lot of people coming from the West Coast taking red-eye flights are going straight to their business meeting but they land at 6:30 in the morning. They cant check into their hotel yet so it just gives them the opportunity to clean up before they head to that meeting, said ROAM Fitness CEO Cynthia Sandall.

Roughly 4,000 travelers a month use the GoodLife Fitness gym at Torontos airport, a 33 percent increase from when it opened in 2014, the company said.

But the concept might not work everywhere. The airport at Las Vegas had a gym that closed. Christopher Berger, who chairs the American College of Sports Medicine task force on healthy air travel, says the gyms success may depend on the destination. He thinks they may be best suited for hubs with long layovers.

You take someplace like (Chicago) OHare, Minneapolis, Portland (Ore.), Seattle I think youve got a real chance of selling it, he said.

San Francisco International Airports yoga room has been so successful that a second one opened in 2014. Airport officials say its used daily. After a few downward dogs, yogis can also order a green juice or curry bowl at The Plant Cafe, where everything is made with local and organic ingredients. Theres also Napa Farms Market, Joe & the Juice and new vending machines offering organic, gluten-free and sugar-free snacks.

Other amenities in the pipeline as major airports look to become destinations in their own right include movie theaters, more fine dining and better shopping, says Lorraine Sileo, a senior vice president with travel market research firm Phocuswright.

But fitness and wellness offerings may be especially appealing to travelers getting on or off cramped planes.

At Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, theres a yoga studio with free mats, a walking path and two 55-foot staircases for an extra cardio challenge. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport has a 1.4 mile walking path. Philadelphias airport had a temporary program where passengers could cycle on stationary bikes while waiting for their flights. Baltimore/Washington International also offers bike rentals and a 12.5-mile trail just outside the airport.

While airports still sell plenty of greasy fast food, many airport eateries also now feature local, organic ingredients and vegan and gluten-free options. Icebox Cafe at Miami International Airport, which uses locally sourced food, reported above-average sales of $3.1 million last fiscal year. Other examples of vendors bringing healthier fare to airports include Natures Table in Atlanta and Orlando, Fla.; Elephants Delicatessen at Portland International Airport in Oregon; and French Meadow Bakery, in four airports including Minneapolis and Salt Lake City.

Ann Gentry, founder of the popular vegan eatery Real Food Daily, has an airport location in addition to two others in the Los Angeles area.

I knew it was going to be a hit because in our (two other restaurants) people were coming in getting bags of food for the plane, so we were very accustomed to packing up food for the plane, she said.

But not everyone who patronizes Real Food Daily at the airport location realizes its vegan. Some order a spicy lentil burger and bring it back complaining they didnt know it wouldnt have meat. On the flip side, some travelers say they enjoyed her airport grub so much they sought out the restaurant while in town.

AN AIRPORT GYM AT HNL?

While there are no plans for fitness amenities at Honolulu International Airport, the recently revitalized Asian and Hawaiian cultural gardens provide a space for passengers to get fresh air and stroll while waiting for their flights, according to Department of Transportation spokeswoman Shelly Kunishige.

As far as health-conscious dining, concessionaire HMSHost is updating menus at its airport eateries to include more healthy options and locally sourced ingredients.

Some places already do so. For example, the PGA Tour Bar and Grill in the Central Concourse has vegan and gluten-free dishes.

Fitness blogger praised for sharing makeup-free photo after eczema flareup – Fox News

Everyone has bad days. But usually online, we only see peoples good ones.

However, we all know thats not reality and thats precisely the inspiring message from Carys Gray, a fitness blogger whos being praised after sharing an honest makeup-free photo of herself during an eczema flareup.

MODEL'S AMAZING JOURNEY FROM PREGNANT TO 6-PACK

Gray, who has more than 148,000 followers on the social media platform, shows two photos of herself in the viral image: one with her eczema under control and makeup on her face, and another with her eczema flared up and her face makeup-free.

Social media/Instagram will show the good days, Gray wrote in part in the now viral post, which had garnered over 80,000 likes as of Tueday afternoon. But here's a reminder that next time you see something on social media that you think is 'goals' that it's not the full story, it's not how that person will look or be alllllll the time!

Eczema, or atopic dermatitis, is a chronic skin condition that causes redness and itchiness, according to the Mayo Clinic. It can occur at any age, and it does not have a cure.

THIS FIT MOM DROPPED 6 DRESS SIZES BY LOSING ONLY 2 POUNDS

In the caption of the post, Gray goes on to encourage her followers to have body confidence despite their imperfections.

I'm still struggling to accept myself on the right, it's a big insecurity of mine and that's fine, she wrote. I'm learning to accept myself knowing that everyone has their own struggles and insecurities and that's what makes us unique and special.

Koko Fit Club: The Future of Fitness – Charleston City Paper

When it comes to working out, Ive done it all. Traditional gyms, personal trainers, P90X, you name it, Ive tried it. And Ive found that I like the flexibility of a gym but the one-on-one attention that comes with working with a personal trainer. Most importantly, I like having a program designed for me so I dont have to think about what I need to do in order to achieve my fitness goals. So I decided to try Koko FitClub, a gym concept new to the Charleston area, with locations in Mt. Pleasant and Downtown Charleston, which combines technology with individualized coaching to provide an alternative fitness program for the digital age.

My experience up until now with 30 for 30 has been with the award-winning ESPN documentary series. Kokos version of 30 for 30 is an equally eye-opening introductory 30 days of training for only $30. The best part of the deal is you get a personalized introduction to all that Koko has to offer from their Smartrainer system and virtual cardio training machines to the X-Room, which features dual cable cross machines and battle ropes. The individualized attention to your plan and goals made it one of the best trial periods Ive experienced in any industry, fitness or otherwise. This is crucial since their approach is very different from other fitness studios and gyms. As they say in their marketing materials if you dont love Koko in thirty days, we dont deserve you as a client.

Koko claims that 90 percent of people who join traditional gyms never receive coaching or help with their workouts, which is what led the Koko founders to reinvent the workout experience. They were tired of wandering aimlessly around a gym with no guidance and didnt particularly love group workouts. My personal experience has been similar my best results came when I worked with a trainer or had an individualized program put together for me to follow. And working with a personal trainer is great, but its expensive, especially if youre looking to work out at least three times a week. I love having someone put together a workout plan for me (and holding me accountable) but I find that scheduling can be difficult, particularly if my work gets in the way of my workout. The Koko experience offers efficient guided workouts that are easy to work into a busy schedule, since members can access the club between 5 a.m. 12 a.m. 7-days/week, or schedule appointments with a trainer during staffed hours.

Koko promotes itself as a digital gym and the technology on display is easily its most impressive feature. The virtual training machines walk you through each exercise in your workout through an interactive touch screen that monitors your intensity, workload and pace. And the guided, interval hiking and climbing cardio workouts on the treadmills and elliptical trainers feature audio coaching to help keep you motivated through your workouts that are set in various locales around the world. And all of progress is stored on your personal Koko Key a thumb drive that stores all of your workout data, body composition information and the progress made with your personalized program. It is overall a very slick and data-driven setup that feels like a workout made for the 21st century.

I always found it easy to go to the gym and wander aimlessly trying to figure out what exercises to do. And while I loved working one-on-one with a trainer, my bank account couldnt keep pace. What appeals about Koko FitClub is that its different and disruptive. The use of technology paired with flexibility to work within a customized, guided program on your own or one-on-one with a trainer is a refreshing model. After your initial 30-day introductory period, you can choose from various packages designed with your specific goals and budget in mind. Thirty days in, Im convinced that the tech-driven approach at Koko Fit Club is the future of fitness. Im well on my way to becoming a Koko Nut an avid fan of their smarter way to get fit.

Check out Koko for yourself at kokocharleston.com, or stop into one of their locations. Be sure them you heard about Koko from Charleston City Paper!

Mamadou Sakho hails fitness regime after win on Crystal Palace debut – ESPN FC

Sam Allardyce has only compliments to shower on his team for their showing against Middlesbrough.

Mamadou Sakho has said his impressive Crystal Palace debut against Middlesbrough on Saturday was down to an intense fitness programme.

Sakho made his first competitive appearance since April in Palace's 1-0 win at Selhurst Park.

The Liverpool centre-half made a loan switch to Palace at the end of January after being frozen out at Liverpool under manager Jurgen Klopp.

"My last game was 10 months ago but during this time I have been working hard on my fitness and, after my performance, it has all been worthwhile," Sakho said.

"I am really proud to be involved in this victory, and from my point of view it is always about me giving my best when I am out on the pitch for the club, the team and the supporters.

"We played 12 against 11 in this game because the fans were really good for us and they gave us a lot of courage and confidence. It was nice to get the result for them.

"We played very well as a team, gave a strong performance and deserved the three points in a really difficult game."

Liverpool had been looking to offload Sakho on a permanent deal in the January window, demanding 20 million for the France international.

However, they eventually settled on a 2m loan fee with Palace, who will cover the player's full wages.

Palace boss Sam Allardyce praised Sakho and said: "It was a nice performance.

"It was his first Premier League game this season, so we spent a good bit of time on his fitness and he's accepted that he had to put that extra work in."

Fitness blogger hits back after Instagram removes pic of her cellulite – Fox News

Mallory King, a fitness blogger based in Florida, has documented her fitness journey by posting photos of herself in scant clothing on Instagram for several months. Her aim: to normalize real bodies, and inspire self-love and acceptance among her followers.

5 POSSIBLE REASONS YOUR WEIGHT LOSS HAS PLATEAUED

Thats why she was surprised when Instagram recently removed a photo of her showing off her cellulite, she wrote in a post last week. The womens advocacy group Sunday Morning View had regrammed the image, increasing its visibility and causing it to rack up more than 20,000 likes.

This upsets me for two reasons, King wrote in the post. 1) Why do thousands of posts go unremoved that show butts and boobs in WAY more vulgar ways than mine? Is it because my cellulite is offensive? Is it because I'm not trying to be sexy? Is it because I don't have the body type that is continuously shared on here?

2) Why are people so threatened by a woman unafraid of showing her body and speaking her mind? she continued. People used the excuse that their kid could see the photo. Don't let your kid on social media! No, that's not it. It's either people feel threatened by my fierceness or people are so brainwashed by media that a perfect pair of tits or butt is fine to flash but a body that's outside of the norm is offensive.

BLOGGER'S SIDE-BY-SIDE TRANSFORMATION PIC SHOWS HOW IMAGES CAN BE DECEIVING

In the viral side-by-side photo, on the left side King is pictured in a bra and underwear giving a thumbs up, with her husband, Thomas, also giving two thumbs up, and on the right side she is pictured alone flicking off the camera.

Some have speculated the image was removed because King is shown giving the finger, but, as Cosmopolitan.com pointed out, thousands of #MiddleFinger posts appear on Instagram, so that likely wasnt the reason for its removal.

THIS FIT MOM DROPPED 6 DRESS SIZES BY LOSING ONLY 2 POUNDS

Instagram does prohibit "close-ups of fully-nude buttocks," "content that contains credible threats or hate speech," and "serious threats of harm to public and personal safety, but Kings post also doesnt appear to violate those rules, Cosmopolitan.com reported.

Whatever the reason, King isnt letting Instagram stop her, she suggested on Instagram.

Y'all can report my photos as much as you want, I'm gonna keep sharing them because the world needs more women unashamed of their bodies and unafraid to share their voice, she wrote.

Dogs who work: Honey at Gauntlet Fitness – Daily Ardmoreite

Marsha Millermarsha.miller@ardmoreite.com

Editors note: Its no secret there are hard working dogs and cats. But while some are tending to traditional animal jobs, like herding cattle or mousing in barns, others are going to work with their owners and are performing people jobs at local stores, offices or job sites, like Honey, who has become an irreplaceable member of the staff at Gauntlet Fitness.

Names and occupation: Sometimes business owners dont realize the benefits of having a pet employee. Shawn and Ashley Mason, owners of Gauntlet Fitness, were prime examples of those who didnt didnt have a clue about the talented assets a pet employee could offer. In fact, they didnt think they needed a pet, much less a Pit Bull and especially not a Pit Bull that would be part of the staff in the gym. But, then fate, or maybe a doggie angel, stepped in and knocked on the Masons hearts. Honey, did her part too. She gave it her best shot during two interviews at Ardmore Animal Shelter one that convinced Ashley and and second one that clinched the deal with Shawn. Now Honey is much more than just part of the Mason family, she is a symbol to everyone who works out at the gym of what quiet, unassuming but courageous determination can accomplish.

Special talents: Honey is everything a Pit Bull is not suppose to be. Shes friendly, but she doesnt demand attention. Instead, she waits for permission before she meets and greets. Shes patient. Shes kind. Shes smart. She has a sweet and tender temperament. Most of all she radiates a quiet inner strength and a strong will. We dont know her story, Mason said. All we know is a Lone Grove firefighter found her, with a ripped ear and took her to the shelter. Whatever unfortunate experiences and hurts haunt her past, Honey has overcome her history. She moved on when she moved in with Shawn and Ashley and their three children and shes an example to every person training at the gym that where theres a will theres a way. She knows everybody and she works out with everybody, Mason said. She loves all our clients, especially Danny Wollaston (a well known dog rescuer). Honeys the encourager while shes on the job at the gym. Those working out cant help but try a little harder and work a little longer with Honey by their side. And just when someones about to get discouraged, Honey turns into a clown and rights whats wrong. Just a little doggie magic when its needed. When she does has a moment to herself, she mounts the front stairs and goes to the windows overlooking West Main Street where she can watch those passing by.

What makes Honey perfect for her people job? Although Honey is a bit reserved with those she doesnt know, she has a playful and energetic run and play battle rope side too. Shes always ready for those who would like to add a bit of cardio to their workout and shes always ready for playtime when her human kids, Liam, Addison and Ava come home from school. True to her breed she is by nature, an athlete with an impressive rock solid muscular build. Mason says the only time Honey isnt at the gym throughout the day in during kids classes. Why? Because some parents are apprehensive because shes a Pit Bull. We dont want anyone to worry. So Honey doesnt work out with the kids classes, he said, adding he hopes some day that will change. What we want people to know is that Pit Bulls are not bad or mean dogs. Honey is an excellent example of what her breed is really all about.

If you have or know of a dog or cat that works a people job let us know. Send an email to yournews@ardmoreite.com with the animals name, the name of the owner and where the special dog or cat works and contact information.
