Fitness 19 closes Peabody Road gym – TheReporter.Com

Fitness 19 in Vacaville announced Tuesday it would be closing its gym located at 70 Peabody Road immediately.

Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to close this location, the company wrote in a letter to its members. We are unable to relocate your membership to an existing Fitness 19 or a new and improved location nearby.

Fitness 19 has been at this location for 13 years and wanted to provide more for their members, said Bob Rodger, a representative for the company.

They were not able to refurbish the existing building or find a new building to relocate to, so they reached out to Fitness Evolution and asked if they would honor their customers memberships.

Fitness 19 memberships will automatically be transferred to the Fitness Evolution club located at 991 Alamo Drive. This transfer is effective today.

Monthly and annual dues will continue to be billed through Fitness 19 until March 14.

Then Fitness Evolution, which is located inside the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market shopping center behind Jack in the Box, will take over collecting those dues the next day.

According to Fitness 19, members that currently have daily use restrictions will now have access seven days a week.

Members who pay more than $10 a month will be automatically upgraded to a premium membership that includes tanning, hydromassage and the use of more than 51 locations in Northern California.

Rodger said Fitness 19 is sad to leave Vacaville, and tried to provide more notice, but they were working on the arrangement with Fitness Evolution.

If members decide not to transfer their membership, they must provide written notice to Fitness Evolution.

Clement fitness regime is paying off Mawson – Goal.com

The hard work on the training ground is paying off, insists the defender as the Swans ran out easy winners against the champions

Swansea City defender Alfie Mawson paid tribute to Paul Clement's impact on fitness at the club following his goal in a 2-0 victory over Leicester City.

Mawson scored a sweetly struck volley to open the scoring at the Liberty Stadium before Martin Olsson doubled the lead and Swansea went on to secure their third win in their last four Premier League matches.

The run of form has helped ease the Swans' relegation fears and Mawson gave credit to head coach Clement, who arrived at the club on January 3.

"We are working really hard," Mawson told Sky Sports. "The new manager has changed a few things, the players have never worked so hard. He has a saying - 'hard week, easier weekend' - and it is showing.

"We felt fit and you have to be against a team like Leicester. We just overran and overpowered them.

"The manager told us we are going to work really hard and we have. He's turned it right around, we are so positive we feel we can take on anyone."

The goal was Mawson's third in six games and he admitted he has a knack for the spectacular, saying: "It fell nicely for me, I was delighted.

"I stopped my run and I thought I would sit back and hit it then I had a look up and it was in the back of the net.

Conte: A point is disappointing

"I scored one like that in League One at Millwall but it's a bit different on the big stage, so it felt fantastic.

"Any goal is a positive for myself and the club but I do like to score. I have got a habit at the moment of being in the right place at the right time."

On his unusual dancing celebration, Mawson added: "I'm going to get hammered for this. I did it when I was at Wycombe so I will carry it on. The celebration was between me and my missus, I said I to her I would do it if I scored. It is going to be a craze!"

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- It's February and we are into a new year, which also means new trends. Whether at the gym or spa, many of us are just looking for ways to look and feel good. New year, new goals, new workouts! It's that time of year when fitness trends began to buzz. Topping the list, wearable tech.

"I'm looking at it all the time, it's got little circles on it, so I can see oh I'm almost done," said Fastfit Personal Trainer Jeff McDaniel.

But in the ever-evolving tech world, McDaniel says devices like Fitbit and the Apple watch aren't the only hot things on the market helping count calories.

"Underarmour is doing a really cool thing with technology t-shirts that connects Wi-Fi with your computer and tracks your workouts for the entire month," said McDaniel.

It's something that's still developing and set to be released in the summer, but if you thought that was cool, ladies there's also jewelry.

"Jewelry that track your heart rate calories everything from pendants to rings glasses head gear," said McDaniel.

And another fitness trend in 2017, body weight workouts. Natasha Gallaty says when it comes to exercising she's tried it all, but thinks this training has proven to be most effective.

"I think this is the longest I've lasted in any particular type of workout, said Gallaty.

And what people love most about it is it's accessibility.

"I could do it in my living room, out back when I travel, the beach," said McDaniel.

Also, Jeff says there's a growing trend for specialized studios for just about every workout you can think of.

"So whether it's MMA, or it's yoga or it's spin or it's Zumba you have specific studios versus one big box gym, he said.

"From fitness to beauty, things are constantly evolving, and here at the Rejuvenation clinic in LR we check out some of the hottest trends that have customers coming back for more, said Sara Molsbee, Rejuvenation Clinic Day Spa nurse. "So in the med spa right now we're seeing Kybella has really taken off. This is a new injectable to dissolve the fat underneath the chin."

The FDA approved treatment is gaining popularity among women in their mid-20s.

"This is really the generation that is all on social media taking selfies and they are really focusing on these aspects of the face," she said.

Molsbee says more and more younger people are becoming aware of the benefits of new technology. Whether caused by genetics, aging, or weight gain, she says clients are looking to improve their appearance. HEALTH AND FITNESS: Heart health numbers to know – Aiken Standard

February is American Heart Month, an ideal time to assess your risk of heart disease and take steps to improve your health.

When it comes to heart disease, there are several numbers, including your blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose, you (or your doctor) may be monitoring.

But there is another set of numbers that are equally important for preventing and treating heart disease: 0, 5, 10, 25 and 30.

0 is for no smoking. Cigarette smoking more than doubles your risk of heart disease and stroke, is by far the leading cause of lung cancer and other lung diseases and is responsible for more than 400,000 deaths per year. If you smoke, quitting now is one of the most important steps you can take to improve your health.

Nicotine replacement therapy in the form of gum, lozenges and patches, as well as prescription medications, can help, but quitting really does require serious dedication. Its well worth the effort and some benefits of quitting can be realized almost immediately.

5 is for eating five fruits and vegetables each day. A healthy diet is an essential aspect of good health. While there is no one single measure of a healthy diet, adequate fruit and vegetable consumption is widely considered to be essential for good health.

Fruits and vegetables contain vitamins, minerals and fiber, and most are low in calories. At a minimum, you should eat five servings per day with an emphasis on fresh fruits and vegetables. Your real goal should be to include fruits and vegetables in all meals and snacks, but five servings per day is a good start.

10 is for 10,000 steps per day. Regular physical activity is essential for good health. Almost any activity counts, and a good goal is to be as active as possible throughout the day. You can track your physical activity using a pedometer (step counter) or an app on your phone.

A target of 10,000 steps per day is a commonly cited goal, but you should try to take as many steps as possible. You can do this by minimizing the time you spend sitting, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, and walking instead of driving when possible. More steps are better, even if you dont get to 10,000.

25 is for maintaining a healthy body weight, or a body mass index (BMI) of less than 25. The BMI is a measure of weight relative to height. A BMI of 18-25 is considered healthy, 25-29 is considered overweight, and 30 and higher is considered obese.

The risk of health problems like diabetes, heart disease and some cancers goes up with BMI, so maintaining a healthy body weight is good for your health. If you are overweight, you should lose weight, even if you dont make it to an ideal weight.

30 is for 30 minutes of exercise per day. In addition to being as active as possible throughout the day, you should dedicate a minimum of 30 minutes for exercise or other activity. Considerable research shows that that as little as 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity leads to improved fitness and health with greater benefits coming from longer duration or higher intensity activity.

This can include exercise a brisk walk or jog, lifting weights or other aerobic exercise as well as other activities like housework and yard work. Your goal should be to sit as little as possible, move as much as possible and make time each day to be active.

Valley mom embraces fitness lifestyle, works out with kids – KTAR.com

GILBERT, Ariz. Andrea Allen, a 32-year-old fitness trainer from Gilbert, had to believe that her lifestyle would be undergoing some major changes when she was pregnant with twins.

As it turns out, all it took was a planned routine and Allen was still able to get her daily workouts and exercises in. In fact, her 3-year-old twins will jump in from time to time.

Allen told People.com that the twins believe exercise is just what moms do in the morning and they even have an exercise song to do moves together.

Evan after having another daughter, Allen has still maintained her lifestyle of staying in shape and it has caught the attention of many with over 120,000 followers on Instagram.

Allen will post words of advice along with her recommended workout.

She shares her stories of having to improvise, such as the time she was mid-workout when the baby woke up and had to be fed, so she got a leg workout in as the baby ate and the twins did puzzles.

Its easy to get down and discouraged and beat yourself up, Allen told People.com. But in every situation, look for the small victories.

#Contract4Health helps locals stick to fitness goals – BlueRidgeNow.com

Gyms and fitness centers are notoriously packed at the beginning of the year with people looking to get healthier as a New Years resolution.

By the second week of February, however, those numbers tend to go down. In an effort to keep the community healthy and on track with their fitness goals, Michelle Tennant, spinning instructor at Lelia Patterson Fitness and Aquatics Center in Fletcher, had a plan.

Tennant, who is also a publicist, created #Contract4Health after attending a leadershop program with Landmark, an international personal development corporation. The goal was to bring something to the community to improve lives. She wanted to do something to focus on health and fitness, while making sure people committed. That's where the contract comes in.

It helps express a commitment that when someone signs up, they are giving their word that they will follow through, Tennant said.

She jump-started the program at the fitness facility in Fletcher after being an instructor there for several years. With #Contract4Health, participants commit to completing 36 exercise classes within three months by signing a contract.

Sheila Merrill was the first person to complete all of her classes, and says it helped motivate her to keep going.

After going back to school and completing her degree, Merrill decided it was time to focus on her health.

It is time for me again, she said.I feel like Ive had more energy the past month than Ive had in a long time."

Several programs at the LPC Fitness Center are aimed at keeping people on track and healthy.The Create A New Me was going on as a new membership drive at the same time #Contract4Health began. Tennant saw it as a way to encourage people even more to live a healthier lifestyle.

Were here to support anyone that makes a decision to be healthier, said Wendi Pendleton, assistant director at the fitness center. We want to help people reach their goals in any way that we can.

Since the program began, several instructors have seen a record number of attendees in their classes. Tennant was pleased to see the turnout, especially with new classes available that focus on high-intensity training.

We want to work smarter, not harder, she said, adding that the idea is to support each other.

Merrill described the classes offered at the fitness center as a good way to reduce stress.

People need to do it for their own health, she added.

Around 50 people have signed contracts for the program. Those interested in starting can do so at any time.

Zumba dancers move to the groove at fitness event – Gainesville Times

Never stop moving.

If youre going to do Zumba right, you cant stop moving. Keeping your feet, arms or other parts moving is part of the workout regimen that is Zumba.

The trend isnt new and may not be for everyone, but there were still plenty of people at the Zumba Party Hearty event at the Gainesville Civic Center Saturday morning.

Quinterra Wright, who lives in Alpharetta but works in Gainesville, is used to the exercises style and has been to many Zumba classes.

She also had a special reason for coming to this particular class. The event was co-hosted by Gainesville Parks and Recreation and the American Heart Association, an organization important to Wright.

My dad died from heart disease, so I try and support everything the American Heart Association does, Wright said.

The organizations split the profits from the event, according to Zandrea Stephens, assistant division manager for Gainesville Parks. For a $6 suggested donation at the door, about 30 people showed up to dance away their mornings with the instructors from Frances Meadows Aquatic Center.

The center holds Zumba classes Monday through Thursday at various times. A list of times can be found at http://www.gainesville.org/fitness-classes.

Tarnisha Reid, Kashuna Storey and Lakeisha Cofer came together to try it out for the first time.

It was interesting. Definitely interesting, Reid said. I liked it though, I had fun.

Cheryl Brown was one of the days instructors and led several songs throughout the two-hour event. Shes been teaching Zumba since 2009.

Brown said the idea is to incorporate exercise into a party environment. There are all types of dance types, from Latin to hip-hop and more, depending on the song.

Getting them to move is the idea and stick to it, thats the idea, she said. Its all about health.

Sisters Maggie and Erin Shay knew what they were getting into. Maggie said they had been to Zumba classes together and wanted to come after hearing about it through the Parks and Recreations email newsletter.

I just like the energy, Erin said. It doesnt really matter if you dont know the moves.
