Easy Face Jowl Exercises To Tighten Up Saggy Skin, Fitness Experts Say Eat This Not That – Eat This, Not That
When it comes to self-care, there are many diet and skincare habits you can do that will keep your face looking younger. Maintaining a healthy diet, keeping your skin clear, and targeting wrinkles are all important for a youthful appearance. One additional easy step you can add to your regimen is facial exercises, which can tighten up saggy skin under your jowls. They're quick and simple to perform, and if you do them regularly, you will see a difference before you know it! Keep reading to learn more about these easy face jowl exercises.
We learned some effective jowl-tightening tips and face workouts from Dr. Harikiran Chekuri, medical head of ClinicSpots, as well as Rachel Roff, Licensed Aesthetician and the Founder and CEO of Urban Skin Rx. Roff tells Eat This, Not That!, "Since sagging jowls are the result of loss of volume and elasticity, it is important to pair exercises with a skincare treatment that includes a daily moisturizer and a product that is high in retinol for the best results."
With this in mind, if you're ready to start working on saggy facial skin, check out the following four easy face jowl exercises. They are not only easy to do, but will also be most effective in tightening up your jowls.
The Jaw Release exercise is helpful in toning the muscles that are around your neck and jawline. Doing this consistently will reduce saggy skin and your jowl appearance. Dr. Chekuri strongly recommends this exercise.6254a4d1642c605c54bf1cab17d50f1e
To perform this particular jowl-targeting move, Chekuri instructs you to open your mouth as wide as you can, then slowly close it. As you close your mouth, be sure to relax your jaw. For the best results, repeat this 10 times during each facial workout.

Dr. Chekuri also notes the Cheek Lift exercise does pretty much exactly what it sounds like it will do. The added benefit? Performing the cheek lift exercise will help tone the cheek muscles, which will lift up that skin sag and lessen the appearance of your jowls. Another option to add to this movement is to suck in each of your cheeks, and stay in that position for several seconds before you release. Repeat this 10 times during your regular face-exercising workout.

The Chin Press is a great way to improve jowl elasticity and also reduce the appearance of skin that's looking saggy. Roff recommends completing each jawline exercise for one minute in each rep in order to enhance the elasticity of your skin.
To perform a Chin Press, Roff advises to first form a fist, then position your balled-up hand under your chin. Once you've done this, open your mouth, then close it. Create resistance by pressing your fist into your chin. Make sure you're pressing up gently, but keep the pressure going for a full minute. Once you've done that, rest for 10 seconds before doing another set. Do 3 sets during each facial workout.
While we have no doubt that your smile can light up a room, it can also be used as an exercise to tighten up your jowls. Roff explains that by performing this activity regularly, you'll begin to see a softer contour of the jawline and fewer wrinkles.
Start this move with your index finger resting on the center of your chin. Then, smile to have your mouth wrapping your lips around your teeth. Next, open and close your mouth while lifting your jaw backward. As you start to tilt your chin towards the sky, Gently apply pressure with your index finger. Be sure you're not over-straining the muscles in your neck! Lastly, continue opening and closing your mouth while gradually moving your head back down to the position you started in.

AHN adds innovative liver cancer treatment, cancer fitness program to array of services available in North Hills – TribLIVE
North Hills residents can now get life-saving treatment for liver cancer at AHN Wexford hospital in Pine instead of having to travel to Pittsburgh.
The healthcare system also is expanding the role exercise and nutrition can play when treating cancer patients and survivors with a new facility in the North Hills led by a physician with unique expertise.
Allegheny Health Network officials say providing more access to treatments for liver cancer is critical because it often is not detected until later stages.
Cases of liver cancer also are nearly three times higher in men than women, according to the American Cancer Society.
While less common in the United States, liver cancer also is among the deadliest forms of cancer in the world, hospital officials said.
Because liver cancer symptoms often are not present when during the early stages of the disease, treatment can be challenging when it finally is detected because tumors are often too large to be removed by traditional surgical means, doctors say.
Oftentimes, late-stage liver cancer does not respond to chemotherapy treatment, they say.
To combat these problems, the minimally invasive radiation therapy that has been used at AHNs Academic Cancer Institute at Allegheny General Hospital is being offered at the AHN Cancer Institute the Wexford hospital.
Known as Yttrium-90, or Y90, the process of radioembolization is a minimally invasive treatment that combines embolization and high-dose radiation therapy to target inoperable tumors in the liver, according to hospital officials.
Embolization is a procedure in which substances are injected directly into an artery in the liver to block or reduce the blood flow to a tumor, according to the American Cancer Society.
Not only can Y90 radioembolization extend and significantly improve quality of life for patients with liver cancer, but it represents a potential lifeline if curative surgery is made possible, said Dr. Andrew Klobuka, who recently performed the first Y90 procedure at AHN Wexford.
Klobuka is the lead radiologist at the AHN Liver Cancer Center of Excellence at Allegheny General Hospital on the North Side.
During the treatment, the radioactive isotope yttrium-90 is delivered through catheters directly to tumors without affecting healthy parts of the body, hospital officials said.
The procedure is designed to slow the growth of tumors and increase the chances that a tumor can be surgically removed.
Liver cancer patients and their family members who want more information about the Y90 therapy offered by AHN can call 412-442-2459. To schedule a cancer-related appointment at AHN or talk with a nurse about cancer diagnoses, treatments and side effects, call the AHN Cancer Help Line at 412-NURSE-4-U or 412-687-7348.
Treating the entire patient
AHN officials also have announced the addition of Dr. Colin Champ, a radiation oncologist who specializes in the role nutrition and fitness can play in improving the lives of cancer patients and survivors.
Champ will lead a unique exercise oncology program that is aimed at reducing the side effects of cancer treatments to improve a patients quality of life and the results of the treatments they undergo, according to hospital officials.
The program is being offered at a new 2,650-square-foot health and fitness facility located at the AGH Suburban campus in Bellevue.
Champ also will be practicing radiation oncology at AHNs Wexford Health + Wellness Pavilion, which is located adjacent to AHN Wexford Hospital along Perry Highway.
I am thrilled to join such an innovative and patient-centered oncology team at AHN while also having the opportunity to build a new exercise program for cancer survivors, Champ said. I am passionate about healthy eating and exercise, and my goal is to give patients the tools they need to take charge of their own health, today and into the future.
As clinicians and researchers, I believe weve just scratched the surface of learning how fitness and good nutrition can impact our patients lives for the better, he said.
Champ previously served as an associate professor at the Duke Cancer Institute, where his research centered on the interactions between diet, exercise and metabolism.
The research also assessed whether weight training and other exercise helped improve overall health and cancer-specific outcomes in patients treated for breast cancer and lymphoma, according to hospital officials.
Studies have found evidence that higher levels of physical activity are linked to a lower risk of several types of cancer including bladder, breast, colon, endometrial, esophageal, kidney and stomach cancer, according to the National Cancer Institute.
Obesity also has been found to be a risk factor for a number of types of cancer and can affect a patients quality of life and the likelihood cancer will return, according to NCI.
Dr. Champ brings to AHN Cancer Institute a unique combination of expertise in radiation oncology and insight into the interaction between fitness, nutrition and cancer, said Dr. David L. Bartlett, who chairs the AHN Cancer Institute. His work fits well with our philosophy of treating the whole patient, not just the disease.
The fitness program at AGH Suburban will initially be open to a limited number of patients who have been referred by their physician, hospital officials said.

Local gyms, fitness classes to try while Lerner is closed – GW Hatchet
Media Credit: Krishna Rajpara I Assistant Photo Editor
Try out Dupont Circle Yoga, PureBarre or SoulCycle in Georgetown while the Lerner Health and Wellness Center is closed for repairs.
With Lerner Health and Wellness Center closed for renovations until mid-fall, students are left looking elsewhere for their athletic exploits.
Running on the National Mall or local trails offers space for fair cardio, but other gyms in the area can be home to your indoor workouts with weights, yoga studios and cycle classes. These five local gyms, studios and fitness class opportunities will maintain your workout regimen and serve as reason to get out there and explore another realm of the District.
Dupont Circle Yoga Dupont CircleCalling anyone interested in yoga, this boutique studio in Dupont Circle offers a variety of yin, vinyasa and power yoga classes for students of all levels. Yin yoga is slow moving to increase blood circulation and flexibility. Power and vinyasa move much quicker with poses that flow from one into the next in a more fluid motion.
Dupont Circle Yoga hosts its classes in a light-filled studio on the first floor of a restored 19th-century brownstone, fitting about 35 people per class. I can personally vouch for their gorgeously naturally-lit studio as well as friendly instructors and patrons.
An unlimited package of classes for your first two weeks will cost $28, but they encourage students to drop us a line if they need a discount. This is a superb studio for those looking to explore their yoga practice in a friendly environment without spending exorbitant amounts of money.
SoulCycle GeorgetownNationally known fitness empire SoulCycle needs no introduction. Popular for cardio-intensive workouts, albeit a cultish atmosphere, SoulCycle presents a substitute for those who miss running on the treadmill or riding the spin bike at Lerner.
The studio often organizes themed classes, including Taylor Swift Sunday at the Georgetown studio and decade-themed rides that play music from the 80s, 90s or 2000s. SoulCycle provides discounts for new riders and students, which makes this cult classic studio a reasonable option for college students cardio workouts.
Balance Gym Foggy BottomSteps away from GWs campus, you can try out a traditional annual or monthly membership at Balance Gym for under $100 each month and a free one-day pass for DMV residents and first-time visitors. Check out the gyms many fitness classes, ranging from yoga to high-intensity interval training classes in the gym and online.
Balance Gym prides itself on its CrossFit classes led by experienced coaches in addition to amenities like the gyms sauna for recovery days. Visitors can try out all aspects of this gym before committing to a membership, and interested customers can always pay by the month to avoid a more permanent plan.
PureBarre Dupont CircleKnown for small, pulsating movements incorporated from ballet and pilates that help strengthen and tone your body, barre is a high-intensity, low-impact workout in a class setting for those who want to tone their legs, arms and glutes. PureBarre, a well-known nationwide franchise, draws you in with one free barre class and an unlimited first week for $89.
Music accompanies the exercise as you repeat your small dance movements to feel the burn in targeted muscle groups. PureBarres classes range in intensity for first-timers and those with more experience. They offer online as well as in-person classes.
PureBarre is the ideal outlet for students looking to unleash their ballerina dreams or improve their flexibility. Since barre is low-impact, many orthopedic professionals recommend it as the next step after physical therapy when recovering from an injury. Physical therapists caution that those recovering should communicate their condition to their instructor to make sure the workout is safe for them.
Yoga Heights Varying outdoor locationsExplore different parts of the District through outdoor yoga at locations that change class by class. Yoga Heights is a scenic option for those who want to combine a replenishing class with the joy of refreshing nature.
Upcoming classes include a rooftop session located in Park View, a class to inspire your creativity at the Wangari Gardens near Columbia Heights and an empowering community session at The Parks at Walter Reed right outside Takoma.
The classes are a lovely opportunity to destress and unwind during the first few weeks of classes and beyond in a socially-distanced, expansive environment. Prices vary from class to class, but many are donation-based or as inexpensive as $5.

I Can’t Stop Thinking About This Wellness Icon’s Longevity-Focused A.M. Routine – mindbodygreen
Have you ever walked away from a conversation with someone, feeling completely inspired to overhaul your life? Well, that's exactly what happened after I chatted with entrepreneur and fitness personality Michael Chernowand I have no doubt he has a similar impact on anyone in his orbit.
During our virtual meeting, we discussed some of his favorite ways to be healthy while traveling, and I related to all of them (walk everywhere you can, BYO healthy breakfast, stay hydrated, journal daily, and enjoy yourself). But what really turned my world upside down was hearing about his meticulous morning routine. I'm not exaggerating, his 90-minute a.m. kickoff is perhaps the most intense wellness regimen I've ever heard.
Chernow fully believes in the power of habit (look no further than his brand Kreatures of Habit for proof). And while I didn't leave our convo ready to replicate his ritual, I was thoroughly inspired by the method of his morning: "Spending that first part of the day focusing on insanely selfish things ultimately converts into selfless things," he shared. "I believe you are a far better human being to the people around you. So I don't look at those things as chores. I see them as critical to success in life."
Now, without further ado, here's a breakdown of his nonnegotiable well-being habits:

Withings has a new smart scale and ‘Health+’ fitness subscription platform – Yahoo Finance
Withings is today announcing yet another in its range of class-leading smart scales, Body Comp. The device is pitched as a complete body assessment scale which can look at the sort of facets of our bodies normally reserved for clinical settings. That includes weight, muscle mass, fat mass, water percentage, bone mass, BMI and visceral fat counts. Youll also get information on your standing heart rate and your vascular health (based on Pulse Wave Velocity), as well as analyzing your nerve health. And, of course, its the first Withings product that will be sold to be compatible with Health+, the companys other new announcement.
Health+ is Withings new subscription platform, since recurring revenue is now the one way that most hardware businesses make money these days. It promises to unlock additional features in the Health Mate app, offering insights on how to strive for a better body. These include six week habit-forming modules, all of which is contextualized with the data offered by your Withings devices. They will also be offered meal plans and suggested workouts to help them achieve their goals faster. (Health+ will set you back $79.95 after the first year of use, and is only compatible so far with this and any future Withings' products.)
Now, this is actually a different product to Body Scan, the scale that Withings announced back in January which came with its own electrode handle. That, much like other high-end body composition scales, asks you to hold the handle at waist height in order to better read your vital statistics. Armed with the data, itll tell you the fat and water ratios in your arms, legs and torso, as well as monitoring your nerve activity. That product hasnt actually hit stores yet, but its already clear that Body Comp will offer the bulk of the same features with a little less fine grain data.
There is now a significant number of devices that have Withings and Body in the name and youd be forgiven for struggling to keep them all straight in your head. The existing flagship is the Body Cardio, which has all of the current bells and whistles, including weight, BMI, body composition, heart rate and vascular age. Below that, the Body+ offers weight, BMI and body comp, while the vanilla Body just offers weight and BMI.

How Trainer Massy Arias Is Motivating Women From the Inside Out – Sports Illustrated
Sports Illustrated and Empower Onyx are putting the spotlight on the diverse journeys of Black women across sportsfrom the veteran athletes, to up-and-coming stars, coaches, executives and morein the series, Elle-evate: 100 Influential Black Women in Sports.
As a celebrity fitness coach with 2.7 million Instagram followers, and having spent time as the face of CoverGirl cosmetics, Massy Arias is an inspiration to her fans. But getting to that space has not always been an easy journey.
At just 13 years old, Arias moved from the Dominican Republic to the United States and struggled to adjust to life in a foreign country. She had to learn a new language, a new culture and a new way of life in New York City. On her own since 17, dealing with the challenges of what to eat and earn money, life became overwhelming. A deep depression set in, making life even harder for Arias, who said she already emotionally struggled to find a reason to live. Being depressed is not something you control, Arias says. Its a word people use a lot, but I dont think people understand what it is to not want to wake up in the morning, not wanting to live, or having any motivation to even breathe and get out there to perform your daily activities.
As a young woman it was hard for Arias to see the beauty she already possessed, or who she was or wanted to be. With seemingly no options in sight, she somehow found the strength to move her body. Her debilitating depression ended up becoming the motivating force that saved her. When I started exercising, it was an outlet that lifted me out of that space, she says. I started moving and changing my lifestyle in my 20s, and it has had a major impact on my mental health, body image and overall personality.
Having a healthy body image and respecting the body shes in are some of the many lessons Arias has learned getting to this space. As a womens rights activist she wants to empower women by letting them know their definition of beauty must come from within and not from societal images of what a woman should look like. Arias wants to shift the perspective of what self-love means for womena perspective that traditionally came from a place of being liked by their male counterparts or a cultural or societal stance, instead of within.
When she realized what exercise and a healthy lifestyle did for her, Arias knew she had to share what she discovered. Coming from a culture that lacks a focus on health, she was determined to make it her life goal to shift the thinking. Her mostly women clients flock to her social media feeling inspired to take on her MA Warrior Challenges. Arias is transparent, which resonates with her clients, and she is passionate about them achieving their goals to be the best version of themselves in a direct yet empathetic way. You form a relationship and slowly get to know your client and tailor it to accommodate what that person needs for that time, Arias says. Ms Vida, which is now the new name of my fitness brand, is all about motivating and educating in a very direct, educational and resourceful way.
Arias may be motivated by her tribe of warriors, but what really inspires her is her young daughter, who is often showcased in her workouts. Arias realizes her daughter is the next generation, so she is mindful of teaching her what healthy looks and feels like at an early age to lay the foundation for adulthood. That mindfulness applies to how her daughter and other women see themselves physically, too. Beauty is how you see yourself, Arias says. Have you ever met someone that is attractive, but they have such an ugly personality they become ugly to the eye? Well, there you have it. Beauty is confidence in oneself and carrying it out with a personality that is received as kind and other characteristics that are positive such as a sense of humor, trust, friendliness, empathy and confidence without cockiness.
Having access to tools to cope with depression is instrumental to a healthy well-being and for Arias physical fitness that is paramount to her survival. She wants people to understand the transition to a healthy lifestyle isnt instant, but if you approach it as a hobby more than a task itll be easier. The more you make it about a slow progression to shift your lifestyle and unlearn negative patterns, the easier it will come to you, she says. I always say that life isnt a race but a marathon.
Arias has conquered many emotional battles, and she understands the mind and body are connected. Her goal now with her Ms Vida fitness is to have everyone reach that same understanding and transform people physically and emotionally to create truly healthy human beings.
I am already doing so with my programming, but Id like to bring more awareness as to how the mind, perception and movement come together to shape decisions that help us want to live a healthier lifestyle, Arias says. One needs knowledge of oneself, creating new resources, routines, removal of stressors and constant motivation that cant come from unsustainable sources. We need to find our why outside of the physical.
Senita Brooks is a contributor for Empower Onyx, a diverse multi-channel platform celebrating the stories and transformative power of sports for Black women and girls.

Tamra Judge and husband Eddie Judge are entering the final CUT. The Real Housewives of Orange County couple recently announced that theyre closing their CUT Fitness studio after nearly 10 years in business, and now Tamra is reflecting on both their professional and romantic journey.
Giving an August 27 Instagram post the How it started/How it ended treatment, the RHOC cast member shared two photos with Eddie, bookending the past decade. It was a wild ride baby! she wrote, adding red heart emojis. [Eddie Judge] I love you.
About a week earlier, Tamra shared another photo of Eddie assisting her on a weight machine during a workout, which she captioned with a hopeful Winston Churchill quote: Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. As she seemed to indicate with her August 18 posts hashtags, theyre changing with the times though and will continue to run their Vena CBD business.
Thats not to say Tamra, who will be rejoining RHOC for Season 17, wasnt disappointed to witness whats certainly the end of an era. During an episode of theTwo Ts in a Pod podcast, she opened up more about the difficult decision to shutter her Orange County fitness studio.
We decided to close our gym down way before I got asked back to the show. So that had nothing to do with anything thats going on right now, she explained. Listen, we almost made it to [10] years. Im proud of what we did, what we built. And you know what, youll all find out more things are coming. It is what it is... Its sad. Its a loss. Its 100% a loss. Its hard.
Tamra and Eddie may have had to sell their fitness equipment on Instagram and the gyms website, but the couple is certainly holding on to their many happy memories.
Take a stroll down memory lane with some of Tamra's most unforgettableRHOCmoments, below. And hear more from her about her return to RHOC in the video at the top of the post.
