New VMS Features Worth Your Time and Attention at ISC West 2020
ISC West, the world's largest security industry trade show, is just around the corner. This in-person show gathered more than 1,000 manufacturers and over 30,000 visitors from all over the world in 2019. On top of that, more than 200 brands exhibited at ISC West for the first time. This year's event promises to be just as exciting, if not more so. Lets overview some leading security trends in video management systems development, and what's worth your time and attention at ISC West 2020.AI analyticsEmerging two or three years ago, the AI-based video analytics market is experiencing a boom in growth. The prototypes and ideas displayed at ISC West 2019 could This year's event promises to be just as exciting, if not more soalready be part of a functioning system today. There's a lot of hype around this new trend. So, if you're looking for solutions for your needs, it is important to be able to tell the difference between technologies that work and marketing bluster. To do that, you have to understand what today's AI-based analytics (also often referred to as a neural network, deep learning, or machine learning) can and can't do.Let's start with what AI can't do in video surveillance. It can't analyze the sequence in which events occur or understand the 'logic' of what's happening in the scene. In other words, there's no such thing as a 'suspicious behavior detection tool'. Nevertheless, neural networks are really good at recognizing and classifying objects. For instance, they can distinguish humans from vehicles, vehicles from other moving objects, and cyclists from pedestrians.Neural network trackersThis technology is primarily used as a neural network tracker or object tracker that can identify and track objects of a specific type. Usually, it's applied to complex scenes with a large amount of non-relevant details where a classic tracker would drown in false alarms. The neural tracker can be used to detect people in dangerous areas at production facilities, cyclists riding on pedestrian lanes, or poachers trying to sneak into a nature preserve.Neural networks are really good at recognizing and classifying objectsObject identification function can be used for other site-specific tasks, such as detecting people without a helmet or a high-visibility vest at facilities where those are required by safety regulations. It can also be used to detect fire and smoke in open spaces, or at big premises with high ceilings or active air circulation, where common fire alarm systems can't be used or may go off too late.Behavior analyticsBehavior analytics is another field of analytics based on artificial neural networks. Even if recognizing suspicious or inappropriate behavior is nearly impossible, it can detect risky situations based on human postures, such as an active shooter pose, raised arms, crouching, or man down. In addition to that, AI has been successfully used to perform facial and license plate recognition for quite some time now. Although these systems aren't new, their recognition quality improves each year.Looking for solutions? You'll definitely find some interesting and new options from developers specializing in VMS and modular AI analytics at ISC West 2020.Even if recognizing suspicious or inappropriate behavior is nearly impossible, AI can detect risky situations based on human posturesSmart searchThe ability to perform a quick, flexible search in a video archive is one of the most important features of a video surveillance system. In many ways, it's even more AI has been successfully used to perform facial and licenceplate recognition for quite some time nowimportant than real-time monitoring itself. Constantly keeping an eye out for what's happening onsite is the security service's job. Medium- to large-sized companies usually have that kind of department. Meanwhile, lots of small businesses and households use video footage to investigate accidents, resolve conflicts, or analyze employee's work. They generally don't need real-time monitoring, but video search is a crucial element. The most basic search tools offer an interface that enables easy access to recorded video and event-based search (from video analytics, detectors, etc.). Smart systems with forensic search features that allow the user to set criteria enhance the system's search capabilities even more. How it worksVMS analyzes the video as it is recorded and saves the resulting metadata to a database. In the most basic case, the metadata contains information about motion in the scene as well as the moving object's coordinates. When searching, you can select an area of interest within the frame and take a quick look at all video segments containing motion in this area. More advanced systems save the parameters of moving objects, such as their size, color, motion speed and direction. TThe ability to perform a quick, flexible search in a video archive is one of the most important features of a video surveillance systemYou'll quickly find what you're looking for by setting more precise criteria. The first VMS with forensic search features appeared in the early 2010s. Since then, a growing number of users and VMS developers have recognized the importance of these tools. More and more manufacturers enrich their products with forensic search features, starting from basic search by motion detection.Integrating search functions with AIRecently, search technologies have gone even further by integrating search functions with AI analytics. Some systems are capable to recognize all faces and number plates captured by cameras and save them to the database. You can quickly find all videos containing an image of a person or a car just by searching a photo or a number plate across multiple camera archives at a time. One usage scenario for these systems can be seen in law enforcement deploying them to find suspects using CCTV cameras around the city.Another option for integrating smart search and AI is searching by criteria based on a neural network tracker. When you use it, you can set object's size, color, motion speed and direction in the scene, as well as object's type (such as a human or a vehicle). So, if you need to find out when a red car appeared in the surveillance area, the system will show you only red cars while ignoring other objects like people in red clothes. This technology lets you find what you're looking for even faster. If you or your clients use VMS primarily to record video, be sure to ask the manufacturers you'll talk to at the show what search capabilities they offer.More advanced systems save the parameters of moving objects, such as their size, color, motion speed and directionHardware AI accelerationHigh CPU resource consumption is one of the hardest challenges that stem from implementing a neural networkbased video analytics system. This significantly decreases the number of cameras that can be connected to a server that hosts AI analytics. It also makes the system much more expensive.AI technology lets you find what you're looking for even fasterThe solution is to use AI accelerators. GPUs and dedicated accelerator cards are used on servers to provide hardware acceleration for the neural networks' workload. These devices are mostly manufactured by Intel and NVIDIA. Intel also offers the OpenVINO toolkit, a software package for developers that helps distribute workload between CPU, GPU, and accelerators as effectively as possible using all available resources.New solutionsDue to AI's growing popularity, lots of minor microchip manufacturers became interested in developing neural accelerator chips. The healthy competition will work in the market's favor, serving to stimulate tech development and cut prices. New solutions in the field were on display at ISC West 2019; they'll definitely be present at ISC West again in 2020. Developers specializing in VMS and modular AI video analytics should absolutely check these out.But users should understand that it's impossible to build a cost-effective video surveillance system with significant number (1020 and more) of AI analytics channels without using neural accelerators. That said, various accelerator models may significantly differ in price and power consumption. So, when you talk to developers specializing in VMS and AI analytics modules, ask what accelerator makes and models they support. In conclusionWhether you're an integrator looking for interesting VMS offers for clients or an end-user searching for solutions to your own tasks, check out what AI analytics can do. This sector is developing very fast and is continuously introducing new features that may be just what you're looking for. Incorporating forensic search in recorded video footage is key to building an effective video surveillance system for users, and important to creating a unique product offering for integrators. Needless to say, you can't build a cost-effective video surveillance system without using CPU resources wisely. If a system's functionality completely aligns with what you're looking for, ask what neural accelerator hardware it supports to correctly estimate the cost of your video servers.

Preventing road deaths through better use of fatigue tech – Big Rigs
A SERIES of recommendations by CQUniversity researchers will be used to update the way fatigue detection technology is managed by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator and by road transport companies to improve the safety of all Australian heavy vehicle drivers.
Recognising that fatigue detection is such a new technology, and lacking guidelines, Professor Drew Dawson and Dr Madeline Sprajcer carried out their research alongside the NHVR and road freight and passenger transport companies.
Their partner in this project was Andrew Higginson (of HGH Consultants).
Many of these drivers are on the road for long periods of time or overnight which can lead to fatigue, says Dr Sprajcer.
Some companies use fatigue detection technology to help keep drivers (and other road users) safe, including options such as driver-facing cameras or eye glasses (designed to track eye movements), caps or headbands to track brain activity, or technology that monitors driving behaviour (e.g. harsh braking).
The technology sends send alerts when drivers are too tired making fatigue-related accidents far less likely.
Because this technology is so new, there are no guidelines for drivers and road transport companies to follow yet theyre not sure how to use it within their companies, and what this might mean from a regulatory perspective. This is where we came in with our CQUni study.
We worked with the regulator, as well as a number of road freight and passenger transport companies, to better understand how fatigue detection technology is used at the moment. We also wanted to get industry input on how the regulator should manage it in the future.
We provided a series of recommendations that will be used to update the way fatigue detection technology is managed by the regulator and by road transport companies to improve the safety of all Australian heavy vehicle drivers.

HGH: Side Effects in Men and Women
Human growth hormone (hGH) is a naturally occurring hormone produced by the pituitary gland. Its important for growth, cell regeneration, and cell reproduction.
HGH helps to maintain, build, and repair healthy tissue in the brain and other organs. This hormone can help to speed up healing after an injury and repair muscle tissue after exercise. This helps to build muscle mass, boost metabolism, and burn fat.
HGH is also said to benefit the quality and appearance of the skin. Its said to slow down the aging process and treat age-related diseases. However, research supporting these claims is limited.
HGH works by stimulating metabolic processes in cells to activate metabolism. It stimulates the liver to make an insulin-like protein that produces cartilage cells. This plays a part in bone and organ growth, as well as muscle protein synthesis.
Although hGH is a naturally occurring substance, its also available in synthetic forms as a treatment or supplement. But what are the risks of taking it?
Synthetic hGH is used to treat poor growth in children and adults. It can also be used to treat adults with short bowel syndrome or muscle loss due to HIV or AIDS.
Lack of growth may be the result of medical causes such as:
Injections of hGH can help people with a growth hormone deficiency to:
Because of these benefits, many people use hGH to enhance their athletic ability. Its sometimes used in combination with anabolic steroids to increase muscle mass and to enhance athletic performance.
Some people believe hGH has anti-aging effects since natural levels of hGH decrease with age. Its also said to naturally increase testosterone. However, it should be noted that not all of these benefits have been scientifically proven. The use of hGH for athletic and anti-aging purposes is controversial due to this lack of scientific evidence and its potential side effects.
HGH is injected intramuscularly (IM) and subcutaneously (under the skin) if its been prescribed. Sometimes, illicit manufacturers offer hGH in an injectable form as well.
HGH and substances that promote hGH production are sold online by some companies as dietary supplements, which claim to have the same benefits as the injections. These supplements are sometimes known as human growth hormone releasers. Some of them are said to increase hGH levels in your body because of ingredients such as amino acids.
However, theres no evidence that these supplements have the same results as prescribed hGH. Homeopathic remedies containing human growth hormone also exist. Evidence supporting their benefits is lacking.
SeroVital is a popular brand of dietary supplement. Its said to be able to naturally raise hGH levels because of the amino acids it contains. This is said to have an anti-aging effect. SeroVital also claims to build stronger bones, increase lean muscle mass, and reduce body fat. These claims need more study. SeroVital contains no hGH.
There are several side effects that may go along with hGH use. These side effects are possible with the prescribed version, as well as an illicit form of hGH since the content isnt completely known and regulated. Side effects may affect older adults more than younger people. The long-term effects of hGH arent known.
Possible side effects of excess hGH injections include:
Possible side effects of SeroVital differ from those of hGH since SeroVital is an amino acid blend that doesnt contain hGH. Side effects of the amino acids in SeroVital may include:
HGH should be used with care and consideration. Only use hGH that you get via a doctors prescription. Check in regularly with your doctor while youre taking it.
Take special care to note how your body reacts and if you experience any adverse reactions. If you wish to strengthen your body or improve your health but dont have a condition known to cause growth hormone deficiency, you may consider finding other ways to do this. Eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and engage in healthy habits to improve your overall health and well-being.
Can hGH give women bulky, masculine-looking muscles?
Theres no evidence available to suggest that taking hGH will give healthy women (with normal growth hormone levels) the appearance of bulky muscles. It may help women lose fat and gain lean muscle mass, but this is dependent on many characteristics specific to each woman.

Mike Trout is moving on from HGH accusations – New York Post
Major League Baseball saw plenty of its stars succumb to allegations of cheating this offseason. Mike Trout was never worried about becoming one of them.
The Los Angeles Angels outfielder was accused of taking human growth hormone in since-deleted comments made by David Brosius, son of ex-Yankees infielder Scott, on Instagram.
I didnt really think anything of it, cause its not true, Trout told reporters on Monday. If one person tweets something out and someone gets a hold of it, everyone sees it and wonders about it. It is what it is.
Brosius apologized for the incident, Trout said, and hes moving on from it.
They called us, called the Angels, he said. I was actually in my tree stand and I got a couple of calls from Adam. I thought something had gone on with the Astros. We figured it out. They handled it.
As for the Astros, who have received plenty of scorn as the depths of their sign-stealing scandal continue to come out, the three-time AL MVP is much less forgiving.
Its sad for baseball, Trout said. Its tough. They cheated. I dont agree with the punishments, the players not getting anything. It was a player-driven thing. It sucks, too, because guys careers have been affected, a lot of people lost jobs. It was tough.
I lost some respect for some guys All the stuff coming out, its tough to see.

FTC Takes Action to Stop Anti-Aging Cure-All Marketers From Making Baseless Health Claims – MyChesCo
WASHINGTON, D.C. The sellers of a pill called ReJuvenation settled Federal Trade Commission charges that they deceptively claimed that their product is a virtual cure-all for age-related ailmentsincluding cell damage, heart attack damage, brain damage, blindness, and deafnessand even aging itself.
The orders settling the FTCs complaint prohibit the defendants from making such claims unless they are true and supported by scientific evidence. The orders also require payment of $660,000, which the Commission may use to provide refunds to defrauded consumers.
This is another company promising older adults an anti-aging wonder drug that reverses the effects of disease, said Bureau of Consumer Protection Director Andrew Smith. If you make those kinds of claims, youd better have credible science to back it up or the FTC is coming for you.
According to theFTCs complaint, between March 2014 and February 2016, Maria Gutierrez Veloso advertised and sold ReJuvenation nationwide using direct mail, postcards, emails, and multiple websites. Arizona-based Quantum Wellness and its CEO Fred Auzenne took over the operation in early 2016 and similarly marketed the product.
ReJuvenation is made of amino acids and herbal extracts. According to the defendants ads, ReJuvenation can reverse the aging process and repair age-related damage to the body by increasing human growth hormone (HGH) and the number of stem cells in the body. The ads also claimed users would see the reduced appearance of wrinkles and significant improvements in their memory and cognitive functioning.
In addition, the defendants claimed that ReJuvenation can repair the damage from or reverse a number of ailments, including Alzheimers disease, Parkinsons disease, and Crohns disease. According to the complaint, these claims were misleading or lacked substantiation.
The orders also prohibit the defendants from misrepresenting that any covered product is clinically or scientifically proven to treat or cure a range of ailments related to the aging process. Theorder against Quantum Wellness and Auzenneimposes a judgment of $993,416 against Auzenne, which will be partially suspended upon payment of $60,000. Theorder against Velosoimposes a $2.4 million judgment, which will be partially suspended upon payment of $600,000.
The Commission vote approving the complaint and proposed consent orders was 5-0. The complaint and proposed orders were filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona.

FTC reaches settlement with anti-aging pill seller – Kdminer
If there is one thing the Federal Trade Commission wants you to remember about this article, it's this: sellers that peddle cures must have scientific proof to back up their claims. The FTC takes action when they dont.
Case in point: The FTC alleges that Quantum Wellness Botanical Institute, LLC, its CEO, Fred Auzene, and former marketer, Maria Gutierrez Veloso, deceptively advertised a product they called "ReJuvenation" as an anti-aging wonder pill.
Their ads promised that ReJuvenation would reverse the aging process, repair damage to the body, and treat diseases by stimulating the production of human growth hormone (HGH) and stem cells.
The defendants boldly claimed that ReJuvenation could reverse or repair heart attack damage, heart disease, blindness, brain damage from stroke, Alzheimers disease, Parkinsons disease, deafness, Crohns disease, and age-related damage to the bodys organs, tissues, and joints.
According to the FTC, the defendants worked hard to convince people to buy ReJuvenation, which cost between $39.95 and $49.95, plus shipping and handling, for a one-month supply.
In a proposed settlement announced this week, the FTC says these claims were false or misleading, and the sellers had no reliable scientific evidence to back them up.
The proposed federal court orders would require the defendants to have human clinical testing to support future claims related to the treatment of any disease or health condition. The judgments total $3.4 million, which represents what people paid for ReJuvenation. After the defendants turn over $660,000, that money will be returned to ReJuvenation customers. The remainder of the judgment will be suspended due to inability to pay.
The FTC advises consumers to be skeptical about ads promising miraculous results, or cures for lots of medical issues. Before you buy or take such a product, talk to a healthcare provider to make sure its right for you.

Jarrell Miller has to win the old fashioned way in Top Rank comeback – Bad Left Hook
Some boxing fans care, many more dont. And, frankly, sometimes its hard to tell what many of the big league players in the boxing business the deal-makers, and, indeed, the fighters think about the presence of PEDs in the sport.
The issue popped up in my head, as I pondered the return to the ring of Jarrell Big Baby Miller, the charismatic and now controversial heavyweight who saw his lottery ticket title shot against Anthony Joshua go down the toilet when samples showed the presence of three different banned chemicals in his system.
GW1516, EPO and HGH were in his body, and, he explained, a tainted supplement and then a rogue cocktail injected into a hurting elbow were responsible for the red-flagging, which resulted in Miller being bounced from the June 1, 2019 clash with the Brit champ AJ.
Miller admitted to, no surprise, getting a bit depressed after that $9 million purse circled the drain, but decided to soldier on. Today, his prospects are looking up, being that hes now under the Top Rank promotional umbrella. Miller is co-promoted by Salita Promotions and Greg Cohen Promotions, and seems to be gearing up to use the notoriety from the PED positive as a PR propellant. Did you see the quote in the release Top Rank sent out hyping his addition to their mix?
Minor setback for a major comeback. Im coming for everything and everyone. No one is safe. Say hello to the bad guy, Miller said. Everyone wants to portray the superhero. We dont live in a sunshine world. Ill never be the superhero. In my world, the majority of the time, the villain wins.
Yikes. Happily, we saw a concession to family values as in the release, TR bossman Bob Arum said, Jarrell Miller is serious about coming back, doing things the right way and becoming heavyweight champion of the world. He is one of boxings most unique and exciting characters, but most importantly, he can fight.
Doing things the right way means by not using exotic solutions to bolster strength and stamina, for the record. (I think.)
To that end, I was pondering how commissions in places like Nevada or New York might handle the case of Miller, when he applies to be licensed to fight. He will be grilled, presumably, asked for particulars on the circumstances of the PED positives before the AJ date. He can expect to be faced with stiff scrutiny regarding his bodily fluids, wed think.
Now, if he were to fight next in New York, hed be smart to check their list of banned substances, and make sure he isnt within a country mile of ingesting any those. I looked at the NY list of no-no substances, and was surprised when I didnt see EPO, GW1516 or HGH on the banned list.
So I checked in with NYSAC and asked for clarification. HGH, for instance, could be used righteously, under pertinent medical circumstances; is that why it isnt on the banned in NY list, or does NYSAC adhere to a list of substances banned by an oversight organization, like WADA, in addition to the substances on their own verboten list?
A NYSAC spokesperson furnished a response statement:
The NY State Athletic Commission uses a set of regulations to combat PED use and the use of other illicit substances in combative sports. As you noted, 19 NYCRR 208.29, Prohibited substances and the authority of Commission to require drug testing of licensed athletes authorizes the Commission to take aggressive action against any athlete found to have a listed prohibited substance or PED in their system.
Beyond those prohibited substances and PEDs specifically listed by the Commission on its website and within its Medical Manual, the Commission may discipline an athlete for the use of any drug or substance (whether listed or unlisted) that is found to have been used in a manner that is contrary to the athletes obligation under NY rules to engage in honest competition.
To that end, if an athlete were to use an unlisted substance that may result in unwarranted and unfair artificial enhancement or an unlevel playing field, the Commission may discipline the athlete for a violation of 19 NYCRR 208.17, Honest Competition. In addition, where an NYSAC licensed athlete agrees to a third-party administered drug testing program and tests positive for a PED or other inappropriate substance in violation of their agreement, the Commission may take disciplinary action pursuant to the honest competition rule, its prohibited substances rule, and rule 19 NYCRR 209.3, Compliance with Contracts.
Working in tandem, the rules of the Commission provide various tools to pursue discipline in the event an athlete attempts to gain an unfair and improper advantage through the use of drugs.
Seems to make sense, for the commission to have some room to work within. After all, busy chemists find new compounds and combos to boost performance and I think listing every single one and keeping up with making sure it lists every skull and cross-bones solution would be next to impossible.
I messaged Millers new manager, James Prince, to ask for his take on Millers return, and that would include his stance on PED usage in the fight game, and how he thinks the sports power brokers should handle the issue. If I hear back I will insert his response. Note: I spoke to someone whod know, who told me they believe Prince will be the sort who helps give Miller more structure, points him in the direction of doing the right thing, not doing things that could have his career backtrack again.
Ideally, Miller will sign on with 24/7/365 random testing by VADA, sending a clear message that hes intending to never again get disciplined for having banned chemical aids in his system; because Arum is right, his personality is such that he could attract intterest from even non-boxing fans, if hes able to compete and beat one of these higher profile belt holders. But to do that, he must do it that old fashioned way.
