Aguilera: I'm fat, get over it

Christina Aguilera once felt forced to be a tiny size zero. The 'Your Body' singer - who has been criticised for her curvier figure recently - has opened up about the pressure to be thin in the music industry and claims her record company once staged an intervention to get her to lose weight. The 31-year-old 'The Voice' judge told Billboard magazine: "During the promotion of my album 'Stripped', I got tired of being a skinny, white girl. I am Ecuadorian but people felt so safe passing me off as a skinny, blue-eyed white girl. "The next time my label saw me, I was heavier, darker and full of piercings. Let me tell you, that wasn't an easy pill for them to swallow. I had gained about 15 pounds during promotion and during my 'Stripped' tour. "They called this serious emergency meeting about how there was a lot of backlash about my weight. Basically, they told me I would affect a lot of people if I gained weight - the production, musical directors. "[They claimed] people I toured with would also miss out if I gained weight because I would sell no records or tickets for my shows. "I was young, so I lost the weight quickly and was toothpick thin during 'Back to Basics' promos and touring." The singer claims she put her foot down during recording for her new album 'Lotus' and has refused to slim down to promote it. "I told them during this 'Lotus' recording, 'You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it.' They need a reminder sometimes that I don't belong to them. It's my body. "My body can't put anyone in jeopardy of not making money anymore - my body is just not on the table that way anymore."

Christina Aguilera: It's my body

Christina Aguilera has revealed that she has told music bosses to accept they are "working with a fat girl".

The Keeps Gettin' Better singer said she was tired of conforming to someone else's ideal body image and that when she started working on her new album Lotus, out next month, she decided to make it clear that she is in control of her own body, reported Us Weekly.

Christina told Billboard: "I told them during this Lotus recording, 'You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it.'

"They need a reminder sometimes that I don't belong to them. It's my body. My body can't put anyone in jeopardy of not making money any more - my body is just not on the table that way any more."

The 31-year-old admitted that she previously felt the pressure to lose weight.

She said: "During the promotion of my album Stripped [2002], I got tired of being a skinny, white girl. I am Ecuadorian but people felt so safe passing me off as a skinny, blue-eyed white girl.

"The next time my label saw me, I was heavier, darker and full of piercings! Let me tell you, that wasn't an easy pill for them to swallow. I had gained about 15 pounds during promotion and during my Stripped tour. They called this serious emergency meeting about how there was a lot of backlash about my weight. Basically, they told me I would affect a lot of people if I gained weight - the production, musical directors."

The mum-of-one continued: "[They claimed] people I toured with would also miss out if I gained weight because I would sell no records or tickets for my shows. I was young, so I lost the weight quickly and was toothpick thin during Back To Basics promos and touring."

Monday MLS Breakdown: Houston reverts to its basic principles to shake off recent struggles

HOUSTON The uncharacteristically limp 3-1 defeat in Philadelphia last Sunday underscored a painful truth forged over the past couple of months: Houston had lost its way.

Forget about the team that ripped off five straight wins and an eight-game unbeaten streak through June and July. The then-Eastern Conference leader stumbled through August and September and watched the results suffer accordingly. First place felt miles away after that defeat to the Union punctuated a run of one victory in seven attempts.

In difficult times like these, the potential explanations CONCACAF Champions League demands for the reserves, Geoff Cameron's protracted departure and the usual wear and tear of a long season hold little weight. Only the solutions matter.

It came as little surprise to see the Dynamo return to basics against New England in a 2-0 victory on Saturday night. No more 4-3-3, no more trying to kick it around to kick it around, no more sitting down Adam Moffat to create room for others. The time for the fluffy stuff passed when the Dynamo failed to meet the grade at PPL Park, though it could have ended before that juncture, too.

Houston thrives when it sets out to meet simple purposes. Dictate the rhythm of the match. Fight the opposition for every last blade of grass. Keep it tight at the back. Get the ball down. Spray it wide. Swing crosses into the penalty area. Threaten often from set pieces. Torment the other team at both ends of the park.

When the Dynamo players lose sight of those principles, they falter. When they uphold them for 90 minutes, they combine to present an imposing hurdle for any team in the league.

This performance against the Revolution fell somewhere between the two poles. It took a while for the Dynamo to show improvement amid the downpours at BBVA Compass Stadium. New England created the better opportunities in the first half and managed well against an aerial assault that included too many short corners and not enough menace inside the penalty area.

As a response to the mess in Chester, it fell well short of the immediate burst expected. But the reply eventually arrived in a second half more in line with expectations.

Slowly but surely, the home side ratcheted up the pressure as the second half progressed. Brad Davis popped up on the end of a header. Calen Carr blazed over the bar. Will Bruin tangled with Dimitry Imbongo as the Dynamo prepared to defend a free kick. Brian Ching climbed off the bench to link all of the play together. Bruin forced Bobby Shuttleworth into a fine low save. Cam Weaver took the field and quickly forced Stephen McCarthy into a timely block.

All of that work finally yielded the opener after 77 minutes. Ching played Davis down the right side. Davis used his right foot to square across the goal area. Ricardo Clark capped a surging run through midfield to cleverly turn the service home off the far post.

Christina Aguilera once pressured into losing weight to boost business

Singer Christina Aguilera was urged to lose weight in 2002 because label bosses feared her curvy figure would be bad for business.

The Fighter hitmaker recently opened up about her new fuller shape, insisting she loves her body no matter what critics say.

But the Grammy winner has not always been so confident and admits she was pressured into shedding 15 pounds (6.8 kilograms) during the middle of her Stripped tour with pop star Justin Timberlake 10 years ago.

She tells Billboard magazine, "During the promotion of my album Stripped, I got tired of being a skinny, white girl.

Basically, they told me I would affect a lot of people if I gained weight - the production, musical directors.

"(They claimed) people I toured with (like Timberlake) would also miss out if I gained weight because I would sell no records or tickets for my shows. I was young, so I lost the weight quickly and was toothpick thin during Back to Basics promos and touring (in 2006)."

However, the 31-year-old mum reveals she no longer worries about how her size will impact her brand: "I told them during this Lotus (2012) recording, 'You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it.' They need a reminder sometimes that I don't belong to them. It's my body. My body can't put anyone in jeopardy of not making money anymore - my body is just not on the table that way anymore."

Christina Aguilera has accused her record label bosses of pressuring her to lose weight.

According to The Sun, the Your Body singer claims she was warned her career would suffer if she didn't slim down after piling on the pounds in 2002 - leaving the star at her lightest by 2006.

Xtina is quoted by the newspaper as saying: "During the promotion of my album Stripped, I got tired of being a skinny, white girl. I am Ecuadorian but people felt so safe passing me off as a skinny, blue-eyed white girl.

I was young, so I lost the weight quickly and was toothpick thin during Back to Basics promos and touring.

The Voice USA star went on to add that while working on new album Lotus, she hit back at record bosses stating: I told them, You are working with a fat girl. Know it now and get over it.

They need a reminder sometimes that I don't belong to them. It's my body. My body can't put anyone in jeopardy of not making money anymore - my body is just not on the table that way anymore.

What's Up Doc: Keep your family hydrated and healthy

Q: With how hot it has been, what should I do to prevent my family from getting dehydrated?

A: The main function of the human body is to provide oxygen and glucose to the brain. Blood carries this oxygen and glucose, and is mostly made from water. So having adequate water in the body is critical for good health.

I think about the bodys fluid composition using my rules of two thirds rough estimate. Over two thirds of our body weight is water. Most of this water is inside the cells of the body, again about two thirds. Of the water not in the cells, about two thirds is in the space between the cells. This leaves 2/3 of the body weight times 1/3 not in the cells times 1/3 not between the cells equals 2/27 (about 7 percent) of our bodys weight being blood; and about two thirds of that is in the veins. Water can easily move from inside the cells to outside the cells to inside the bloodstream, balanced by colloid osmotic (oncotic) pressure that works to keep sufficient amounts in the bloodstream.

The body loses water in many of its normal daily functions; moisture in the air exhaled, sweat to help regulate body temperature, and the fluids used in waste elimination (urine and stool). Electrolytes (such as sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate and others) are also lost (taste how salty sweat is).

Additional fluid and electrolyte loss can occur for many reasons:

- Infants lose more fluids per body weight than adults.

- People with poorly controlled diabetes may have increased urine output.

- People who develop vomiting and/or diarrhea (from any cause) lose fluids and may also have decreased fluid intake.

- Respiratory problems causing fast breathing increase fluid loss.

- Any condition that causes fever may lead to excess sweating.

Celeb Post-Baby Slim-Downs

It seems like every day there's a new celebrity announcing her pregnancythen hitting the runway or the red carpet in a barely-there outfit weeks after giving birth. Hollywood moms have plenty of incentive to get back into shape: Jessica Simpson recently struck a $3 million deal with Weight Watchers to use the program to lose her baby weight, while Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai was criticized for not losing her pregnancy pounds quickly enough. (Her daughter was born in November, 2011.)

"Celebrities work hard and they put the time in, because their career depends on it," said Lisa DeFazio, a nutritionist in Los Angeles. While some stars may resort to surgery or dangerous cleanses, most simply diet and exercisebut have the money to afford personal trainers mail-order meals to speed the process. Here's 13 who bounced back in record time.

Beyonc

Gracing the cover of People's Most Beautiful People issue in April 2012four months after the birth of her first child, BlueBeyonce told the magazine that she was back to her pre-pregnancy weight and felt "more beautiful than ever." In fact, she flaunted her famous curves just weeks after giving birth when she wore a figure-hugging dress to husband Jay-Z's Carnegie Hall concert in February. "I lost most of my weight from breastfeeding and I encourage women to do it; it's just so good for the baby and good for yourself," Knowles told People.

Bethenny Frankel

The Bethenny Ever After Star caused a stir in June, 2010 when she posed for Us Weekly in a size-4 swimsuit just three weeks after giving birth to daughter Bryn. Frankel responded with a statement to the website Momlogic, where she attributed Bryn's early arrival (five weeks premature)as well as healthy eating habits and yoga throughout her pregnancyto her ability to slim down so quickly. Later that year, she told Health she probably still weighed four or five more pounds than she did before pregnancy, but that she was "not even concerned about it."

Pink

"As soon as Pink had the green light from her doctor, we got to work," said Jeanette Jenkins, celebrity trainer and creator of The Hollywood Trainer DVD series, who's also helped Tia Mowrey and Alicia Keyes get their pre-baby bodies back. After the June 2011 birth of her daughter, Pink trained five days a week with Jenkins and followed a healthy meal plan in preparation for her fall tour and her first movie role in the upcoming "Thanks for Sharing."

Gwyneth Paltrow

Losing the baby weight after the birth of her second child in 2006 was "by far the hardest thing I have ever done," Paltrow said in 2010. She worked out two hours a day with the help of celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson, the Huffington Post reported, but also said that time constraints shouldn't be an excuse for any woman not to get her body back. "Every woman can make timeevery womanand you can do it with your baby in the room," she said. "There have been countless times where I've worked out with my kids crawling all over the place."
