Diet Doc Clears up Consumer Misconceptions About the hCG Diet – Marketwired (press release)

HOUSTON, TX--(Marketwired - April 13, 2017) - In 2009, nationally-recognized medical weight loss program -- Diet Doc, determined that the hCG diet was unfit to use for weight loss purposes based on in-house clinical trials conducted by their team of medical professionals. Blake Lively’s Trainer Says This One Change Has Made Clients Lose 10 Pounds in 3 Weeks – NewBeauty Magazine (blog)

If theres one thing we know about celebrities, its that they have an uncanny ability to tone up fast. Whether its trying to lose weight post-pregnancy, or building muscle mass for an upcoming movie, the secret weapon for reaching their fitness goals always comes down to one thing: A personal trainer. These trainers have a major impact on how successfully a celebrity can transform their body, but not everyone can afford one. So, we spoke with Don Saladino, celebrity trainer to stars like Blake Lively and Scarlett Johannson, about his secrets for toning up quicklyand his advice is a much more, well, doable, than we thought.

First of all, I always tell my clients to increase sleep, says Saladino. Ive increased peoples sleep by ninety minutes a night and theyve instantaneously lost ten pounds in three weeks. Sound too good to be true? Think again. Not only is sleep essential to repair muscles, it also balances the chemicals in your body that could ultimately affect your weight. People dont understand, they think theyre just going to work off the weight but hormonally, your body goes into the tank if you don't sleep. Your hormones stop producing testosterone and growth hormones and your cortisol levels get thrown off which can actually lead to weight gain.

But that's not all. Saladino, who also recently became a Garden of Life brand advocate, believes that what you eat and drink is also essential for transforming your body. Other than using the Garden of Life SPORT Organic Plant-Based Recovery ($40) to ensure youre healing from your workouts effectively, he advises cutting out three major kinds of foodfrom your diet as well. Im really against flour and wheat, explains Saladino. When Im trying to get someone leaner, the main things I remove from their diet is dairy, wheat, and sugar.

However, the major lesson that Saladino reemphasizes to his clients is that recovery through sleep is the most influential change you can make in your routine. If sleep isnt dialed in, and youre not getting seven to nine hours a night, its going to be very difficult to develop the physique you want.

How to get rid of armpit fat: Lose your underarm bulge without going to the gym – Daily Star

GETTY

After months of dreary grey weather, the sun is finally here. But its not necessarily good news if youre self-conscious about your body.

As the temperature heats up many of us dread getting our lily-white legs and flabby arms out.

And women often struggle more with bingo wings and underarm fat because the average woman is 18-20% fat, whereas the average man only has 10-15% body fat.

Fat also distributes itself differently on ladies and often stores in areas including the buttocks, thighs, stomach and arms.

Take a look at these exceptional body transformations.

1 / 30

Elora Harre, 23 has lost eight stone

Underarm fat the little squishy bit between your arm and your breasts can be a particularly hard to shift.

However, you can banish this unsightly fat without any specialised gym equipment. In fact, the best way to get rid of excess body fat includes burning it off through cardiovascular exercise, resistance exercise and calorie control.

Here are three easy ways to get rid of armpit fat fast:

GETTY

1. Limit your daily calorie intake

To get rid of armpit fat you need to reduce your body fat overall. The best way to start burning fat is to reduce your calorie intake.

Eliminate junk food from your diet and swap it with vegetables, fruit, lean meats, fish and complex carbs like oatmeal, whole-grain breads and quinoa.

Make sure you drink plenty of water and stay hydrated as eople often mistake thirst for hunger.

If you cut 500 calories from your daily diet, you may be able to lose 1lb per week.

GETTY

2. Do HIIT workouts

High Intensity Interval Training aka HITT has become the new craze in exercise and for good reason.

HIIT workouts burn more calories during exercise, but also helps you continue to burn long after you've finished.

A study published last month by the Human Performance Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse found participants burned an average of 15 calories per minute, nearly twice amount they used up on a long run.

"HIIT has demonstrated to be the most effective training protocol for losing weight, building stamina, conditioning your body, and revving up your metabolism," says Eraldo Maglara, N.S.C.A.-C.P.T

And you dont need to hit the gym to do HIIT, all you need is your own bodyweight (although dumbbells and kettlebells are useful).

Simply perform an exercise as intenselyas you can for 30 seconds and then have a rest of no more than 15 seconds.

You can mix up the exercises between press ups, burpees, squats and lunges.

LDN Muscle founder Tom Exton shows off his shredded body

3. Lift weights

Add muscle-building work to your exercise regimen. Try doing the exercises above while holding weights.

If you dont have any weights at home, simply use your own weight for resistance. You can also try planking, triceps dips and deep squats.

As you add muscle tissue, you raise your metabolism and burn more calories even while resting.

This is why you regrain weight so quickly – Body and Soul

Losing weight might not be easy, but the biggest battle is certainly keeping it off.

This article originally appeared on news.com.au and is published here with permission.

Almost everyone who struggles with weight has been there: Losing weight is cinch, but the biggest battle is keeping it off. So why is persistent weight maintenance so difficult?

One of the main explanations you hear around town is a drop in metabolism. The idea has merit, but it only reveals part of the picture says nutrition scientist, Dr Tim Crowe.

Our eating habits are very individual and change from day to day, which is why its much easier to measure changes in metabolism compared to accurately tracking what and how much a person eats.

Here are the top four reasons you regain weight and how to prevent it.

As a society weve become hard wired to expect everything quickly. We want instant success in everything we do and all our wants and needs to be fulfilled without delay.

Weight loss, though, is anything but immediate. Regardless of whether you continually count calories, avoid carbs or whatever the diet demands, you may get rapid results in the short-term (which is a big motivator for people), but then you need strategies to move into long-term patterns which is why these regimens dont address the underlying reasons why you are overweight.

The sobering reality is the human body will continue to fight against weight loss long after dieting has stopped.

The fix: A better approach is to take the focus off the quickest way to lose weight. Instead, look for positive lifestyle changes which allow you to adapt to new healthy habits, making it less likely that you will revert to old ways.

A recent clinical trial tested a new drug for treating diabetes on two groups. Results showed that people on the drug, called canagliflozin (which works by making the kidneys excrete more glucose a favourable side effect for weight loss), lost only slightly more weight than the non-drug group. Why? People in the drug treatment group were hungrier which drove them to eat an extra 100 calories each day for every kilogram of weight they lost.

The influence of hunger on weight regain is three-times stronger than a slowing of metabolism. Add the two together it appears almost inevitable that the lost weight will creep back on again for most people adds Crowe. In other words, the more weight you lose, the more you eventually compensate by eating more.

The fix: Hunger is the physiological need for food, which is why its important to never ignore it. Work out a balanced eating plan (including the occasional treat) with a satisfying amount of food that works best for you, and dont be afraid to experiment with eating more if your health isnt where you want it to be.

For a lot of people, weight loss is a journey that requires a lot of mental preparation and sacrifice. Once they reach their goal weight, the diet is over a mindset that sets the scene for regain.

This is amplified by the fact that the body recalibrates its metabolism as the weight drops, however the effort required to maintaining new eating habits are often difficult to sustain.

The fix: The diet mentality needs to stop. Change your mindsets from weight conscious to health conscious. Refrain from labelling things good or bad and focus on providing your body with sustaining, nourishing food you enjoy.

Ever notice when you decide to give up a favourite food, its the only thing you can think about? Restrictive thinking, such as that found in many popular diets, will lead the way down Struggle Street and almost guarantee defeat.

For many, diet means a set amount of time during which you must exercise superhuman willpower to resist temptation and overwhelming hunger at the end of which you can finally reward yourself with junk food binge.

Regaining weight has little to do with poor self-control. Our bodies are primed to fight against weight loss. You can ignore hunger cues for a time, but they will persist for much longer than your willpower, adds Crowe.

The fix: Identify your triggers to overeat: stress, fatigue, boredom, skipping meals and build non-food strategies, such as go for a walk, call a friend, or take a bath instead, rather than relying on willpower.

The Ugly Truth About Wedding Diets – Refinery29

The response was huge, and telling. The Times ran a follow-up piece the next week, addressing the outraged response from readers, many of whom were disturbed not only by the trend, but by the fact that the paper had reported on it with an evident lack of criticism. They failed to note, for example, the fact that feeding tubes were designed as a life-saving medical device, not a diet tool. Furthermore, theyre typically administered to patients under consistent medical supervision because there are indeed risks: infection, vomiting, ulcers, and pulmonary aspiration (inhaling stomach contents into the lungs) which can cause pneumonia. Finally, the Times didnt point out the most obvious and crucial fact about this trend. If they didnt have the tube and just stopped eating theyd be considered anorexic, one reader commented. But under a doctors care and with a tube in their nose, its a crash diet. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics agrees, noting that The K-E Diet will almost inevitably lead to quick weight regain, and also puts patients at risk for bingeing or developing an eating disorder. Furthermore, one doctor told the Academy, ...nobody really knows what's in that [K-E Diet] formula.

Chris Evans on Losing Captain America Muscle for ‘Gifted’: ‘My Body Doesn’t Want to Be That Big’ – Yahoo Movies

Chris Evans follows up his role as the titular beefcake crime-fighter of Marvels Captain America: Civil War by playing a boat mechanic caring for his super-genius niece (Mackenna Grace) in the much gentler, much less action-packed new drama Gifted. Granted, hes a boat mechanic in much better shape than the majority of Americans, but the gig still required the Avenger to tone down from superhero shape.

Im lucky or unlucky, however you want to look at it that I can gain or lose weight relatively quickly, Evans told Yahoo Movies at the Los Angeles press day for Gifted, where he was joined by his young costar. I think it changes as I get older, but as of now I seem to be able to kind of shed and add pretty quick.

Last summers Civil War marked Evanss fifth outing as super-soldier Steve Rogers (not counting cameos in Thor and Ant-Man movies), and hes currently in production on No. 6 with Avengers: Infinity War. While the actor has said he naturally weighs in between 170 and 180 pounds, he typically adds another 20 to 30 to play Cap.

My body doesnt want to be that big, Evans admitted. I naturally walk around at a much lighter weight. So when it comes to an everyman role like Gifted? You just stop working out, maybe cut back on a few meals. And in a few weeks Im back to being a skinny weenie.

Gifted is now in select theaters and opens wide April 14.

Watch costars (and ex-couple) Chris Evans and Jenny Slate shower each other with praise:

A life-changing commitment – SouthCoastToday.com

By Nick Friar, Contributing Writer

Losing weight has never been an easy task.

Diets are hard to maintain, and weight quickly comes back once old habits return. True change may necessitate a complete change of lifestyle.

Just ask Amy Smiddy, of Westport, whos lost nearly 100 pounds in the past year. She just celebrated her 40th birthday in January, but is somehow in the best shape of her life.

Hows that even possible?

You just keep pushing every day, Smiddy said. Even if its a little change, you do 100 more steps than yesterday or your try to do one thing that you couldnt do before, as long as you stick with it and trust in the process its amazing.

Trusting the process can lead to a life-altering change.

I never thought that I would get to this point. I always thought Yeah I want to look like that, but never thought I would get here.

Also known as Smidds by fellow gym-goers at Infinite Fitness in Somerset, the Westport Police Department dispatcher swears by her routine, but hasnt forgotten how hard it is to take the first step to her physical condition.

In fact, she may know better than anyone what thats like, given she was inches away from quitting before she started.

Even when I first made the decision to start working out and set up my assessment at Infinite, I wanted to cancel, Smiddy said. I had some stupid reason about the weather and just a dumb reason.

Sixteen years ago Smiddy also served in the military as an administrative assistant and military police in training for the Air Force, but still claims shes fitter now. She describes herself as being way too skinny in her service days, despite being lighter now. The biggest difference isnt just the strength shes developed, but the visible muscle definition.

When I was in the military, we did a lot of physical fitness, obviously, so we did a lot of running, the Westport resident said. I could do physical things but the definition in my arms now, I never had. I couldnt lift anything heavy. I had no upper body strength whatsoever. Now, I have muscles on my back I dont think I ever had on my back.

Smiddy, weighing in at 168 pounds, loves the transformation she sees on the outside more than anything. Its led to a huge wardrobe change for her, which has been hassle at times but in a good way now.

The fact that I can go to any store and I buy a piece of clothing without even trying it on, and it fits drives me every day, that was something I was never able to do. she said. Or I would see something and go try it on and it would never fit. Now Im still stuck in the mindset that Im a 14 or a 16 and I bring things in the dressing room and Im like This is way too big, what was I thinking? Thats huge for me because I like getting dressed now, I like going shopping now and thats what keeps me going.

But for all the spoils of victory she celebrates now, there have been a fair amount of days where Smiddy found herself frustrated. There were weeks where she stood on the scale to see no change in weight, despite feeling a difference in how her clothes fit or how she moved around.

It hasnt been easy, she said. People think this is easy and say Well, I want to lose 50 pounds, how did you do it? I went through a lot of stress at home at first because I always resorted food when I was stressed. Now I go for a run or different things like that.

And no one in her support system has helped her through those difficult moments more than Infinite Fitness owner and head strength coach Mike Fernandes.

Sure, shes hit patches where the weight loss slowed and we had to make adjustments, but I always assured her that we were by her side every step of the way and to trust in the process, the fellow Westport resident said. It's about the journey. If it was easy, everyone would be able to lose 100 pounds, but it's not. I'm so proud of Smiddy because she's accomplished so many things that she didn't believe she could when she first walked through our doors.

But without question, all the frustrations along the way have been worth it for Smiddy. Shes dropped from a 24 pant-size to a 10, and into small in T-shirts the smallest size in her adult life. Her self-confidence is through the roof, shes a better parent and employee, too all because she made the trip to a gym in Somerset.

For people who want to make the change and theyre scared, you couldnt get anymore scared than I was when I walked into Infinite, she said. I was overwhelmed, I was the heaviest person in here and I felt like everybody was looking at me.

But her motivation proved to be more powerful that all those fears and doubts.

Once you make the commitment, make it for yourself, dont do it for anyone else, she said. In the past I always did it for the wrong reasons I was doing it because I was in a relationship and didnt think I was thin enough or to make other people happy.

The real investment is committing for yourself. No ones going to do it for you. Once you make that decision its worth it. My whole life has changed as a result and its awesome.

This Morning’s Dr Zoe Williams: Losing weight for good is about lifestyle change – Express.co.uk

PH

With wedding season nearly upon us and the summer holidays looming, its time to start thinking about shaping up. So weve asked This Mornings Dr Zoe Williams, a former Gladiator and practising GP with a special interest in obesity and weight management, for tips on getting fit for summer. Zoe says it isnt about quick fixes, but advises us that by picking up weights, finding a slimming pal and being more mindful about what we eat, we can be looking our best by the time summer rolls around

Dont resist resistance exercises

Zoe says: To tone up your bingo wings or tummy, you need to build muscle but youll never see those muscles unless you lose the fat thats on top of them. The best exercise to get rid of fat and tone up muscle is resistance training, which basically means exercising using any opposing force dumb-bells, your body weight, tins of beans that cause your muscles to contract. Mix arm exercises with burpees, lunges, squats, star jumps and push-ups.

You dont have to join a gym

Zoe says: If you dont fancy joining a gym, you can incorporate resistance training into your everyday activities. For example, walk home with your shopping bags instead of taking the bus, and take steps two at a time to build muscle in your legs.

The best way to lose weight

Zoe says: If youre trying to achieve fat loss, what you eat is the single most important factor. Exercise alone will not do it. The good news is that you dont have to cut your food intake drastically, just be more selective and eat more healthily. If you have at least five portions of fruit and veg a day, some lean protein, healthy fats and whole-grain carbs, youre likely to be too full to want junk food or empty calories.

Sugar is not the enemy

Zoe says: While its correct that refined, processed sugars are terrible for us, the amount found in fruit and veg is relatively low. A medium orange has about 80 calories and lots of nutrients, and by eating the fruit whole you get the fibre content, too, which will keep you fuller for longer.

This is why smoothies and fruit juice are not a good idea once you blend and break down the structure of fruit or veg, the fibre is altered and your body absorbs it quickly, so you wont feel full for long. And youll consume about five oranges in one glass of juice, which is a lot of calories and sugar compared to the amount that comes from actually eating the whole fruit.

You can lose weight fast

Zoe says: Losing weight for good is about lifestyle change. But if youve got a holiday or event coming up and are desperate to look slimmer, you can achieve rapid weight loss in a short period with an extreme diet, even though it may be mostly water weight that comes off. Some achieve good results on a low-carb or carb-free diet thats easy to follow.

Paleo, Durkin & Atkins, the most popular diets explained

Consider fasting

Zoe says: Theres emerging evidence that the longer you can go overnight without eating, the better for your health as well as for your calorie intake. Leaving 15 hours between dinner and breakfast is good for weight loss and theres evidence it can lower the risk of diseases such as breast cancer and diabetes. The 5:2 diet where you eat 500-600 calories two days a week and regularly on other days has been shown to reduce the risk of all kinds of diseases.

Cultivate mindfulness

Zoe says: If theres one thing you can do to shed pounds, its to keep a strict food diary. We put so much food in our mouths that were not aware of. If you log what you eat in a diary or phone app like MyFitnessPal and tot up the calories, youll be able to see where youre going wrong. You might realise that a small bar of chocolate has as many calories as a whole plate of veggies, and make decisions accordingly.

Get a buddy

Zoe says: The psychology of weight loss says that attempting it as part of a team can work better than going it alone. If youre slimming and/or exercising with a buddy or group, you wont want to let them down, so youre less likely to eat that chocolate bar. Being part of a group may also tap into your competitive side and provide added incentive.

Avoid feeders

Zoe says: Tackle people in your life who encourage you to eat or drink more than you want: colleagues who are always bringing in cake, the friend who urges you to have another pint. Try to enlist their support instead by saying: Im doing a diet, so itd be a great favour if you didnt offer me any.

Be naughty now and then

Zoe says: From Monday to Friday I dont buy any unhealthy food, so its not in the house. I prepare all my own meals and take lunch with me, or if Im eating out Im as careful as possible.

But because food is a great source of pleasure, we shouldnt deny ourselves. So at weekends or if Im going out for dinner, I eat whatever I want. You have to get that balance right.

This Morning, Monday and Tuesday, 10.30pm, ITV
