How to lose weight according to a doctor who lost 53 kgs by following this systematic approach to weight loss – GQ India – What a man’s got to do

There are no shortcuts to lose weight fast and neither are there any magic hacks that will help you get ripped in a record-breaking time. Both these processes require time, effort and an occasional sweat in the gym, explicates doctor Dishant Malik, who at his heaviest weighed a whopping 130 kgs.

Being a doctor, I believe that it is my moral duty to advise not just my patients but also my friends and family to live a healthy life. But, when I, myself, was not living a fit and healthy lifestyle then what was the entire point of advising /explaining someone the benefits of good health? They wouldnt be convinced by me, he said . I wanted to be their example and not just give examples, he added before revealing the weight loss plan, diet and exercise regime that helped him trim from 130 kgs to 77 kgs in just 18 months.

Dishant followed a very systematic approach to weight loss, keeping the below point in mind.

1. "Stay motivated - Cultivating a positive mindset is one of the most important things to achieve any target or goal in life and weight loss is no exception to that. Since I knew I have a tendency to gain weight very easily, I kept reminding myself to not fall short on effort to lose weight.

2. Focus on what matters - Being focused on a particular target is of paramount importance too. There were days when I didn't feel like going to gym or follow my diet or even give into a late night sugar craving, whenever such a scenario arrived, Id look at my old pictures to realise and remember that I cannot lose focus at all.

3. Follow a proper schedule - I followed a proper training session along with a proper diet plan. Id also evaluate my progress every month. It proved to be a great source of inspiration.

4. Say a BIG no to cheating - Don't cheat on this plan, period (it will only do one thing hamper your progress).

I followed a low-calorie diet plan to shed my bodys excess fat in a healthy manner. Some of the low-calorie foods that I absolutely swear by are: almonds, peanuts, walnuts, oats, eggs (mostly boiled) and salads. But on a daily basis, this is what my diet plan comprised:

Breakfast: 2 slices of brown bread with peanut butter OR boiled eggs with 50 gms oats and 200 ml double-toned milk

Lunch: Brown rice + 200 gms boiled chicken breast OR boiled eggs and salad

Dinner: A salad made from red/yellow /green bell peppers + 1 small cucumber + broccoli, half a lemon + 1 bowl of pulses/ 200 gms boiled chicken

ALSO READ: 9 diet-friendly foods with ZERO calories to help you lose weight

I worked out for 3-4 days in a week. This exercise regime included a combination of weight training and cardio. Initially, I focussed only on cardio and high intensity interval training (HIIT) routines. They helped me lose weight but at the same time, I also dropped a significant amount of muscle mass. So, now I follow a good combination of cardio and heavy lifting (compound muscle training) to retain my physique. Besides this routine, I also indulge in kickboxing, yoga and other functional exercises on weekends.

ALSO READ: Five easy yoga poses that will make you feel like a million bucks

I have been able to maintain my weight by following a proper schedule and also be evaluating my progress from time to time. It is very important to keep evaluating your progress as no matter how small this progress is, it is A STEP FORWARD a step towards your betterment.

It is said that abs are not made in the gym, they are made in the kitchen. Hence, I strongly believe that diet is the most important part of any fitness regime. Losing weight is not easy, it takes effort and discipline. But if you are motivated and willing to take that extra step, nothing can stop you.

Want Real Weight Loss? Here Are Three Things You Should Give Up – Medical Daily

Shedding a few pounds off, or losing weight, is a hard and oftentimes tricky business. Its for this reason that while many attempt their hands on it, few of those people actually achieve it for the long haul. Its unforgiving, and oftentimes demotivating and just well, plain tiring.

This then leads to developing a negative relationship with food, seeing it not as a joyful experience but an enemy that you have to constantly battle with. Most of the time, this mindset leads to self-punishment and over-restriction.

However, According to leading behavior change therapist Dr. Heather McKee, there are three things that you need to give up in order to actually achieve success when it comes to weight loss. Here they are:

Give up dieting

You heard us right. Give it up, let it go. According to research, 80 percent of diets fail in the first year, so dont be a part of that. Your body also doesnt want to lose weight that way and you will just fight it, which would result in stress. Rather, start eating smarter and incorporate a lot of whole foods in what you eat. Importantly, remember to never go overboard and keep it within appropriately-sized servings.

Give up punishing yourself via the scales

This is something that happens all too often with people trying to lose weight. You scale yourself at the start of the month, try your best to lose weight after, and then when you get back on the scale, realize that you havent lost any, or worse, youve actually added on some more. This is a negative mindset since being healthy isnt a numbers game. Following an all or nothing line of thinking will only discourage you. In most cases, it can even associate itself with happiness, meaning that you wont reach a certain weight.

Give up diets in disguise

This involves restricting yourself to eating small amounts of food in order to lose weight. So that includes even juice cleansing and detoxes. Instead, opt for whole-foods based diet that is consumed alongside regular exerciseconsistently because that will work more.

Obesity may occur because of genetics, family history, environment and medical conditions, among other reasons that affect body weight. Pixabay

‘I knew I had to lose weight when I couldn’t play football with the kids’ – Echo

A FATHER is looking forward to playing football with his children again after his remarkable weight loss.

Matthew Riggs, 32, from Basildon, lost seven stone in just eight months through sheer hard work and determination after a friend urged him to get down the gym.

When he was at his heaviest 24 stone and nine pounds Matthew would fall asleep all the time, had no energy and couldnt even motivate himself to do anything with family and friends.

But what got to him the most was not being able to keep up with his seven-year-old son Harrison when having a kick-about in the park.

Matthew was at Harrisons football match in March, when his friend gave him some hard-hitting advice.

The father-of-two, said: I was at my sons football match and I was so out of breath just walking from one five-a-side pitch to the next.

My friend said to me come on mate, come to the gym with me, we need to get you in shape..

He went on to say you have two young kids, Harrison, three-year-old Emily, and a wife, the way you are going youre a walking heart attack..

This hit me hard as I was thinking about my dad having two heart attacks at 36 and 42-years-old.

I knew he was right, and I was coming up to the same age my dad was when he had his first heart attack.

Matthew felt embarrassed at thought of walking into a muscle-man gym and looking like the fat guy.

He added: I thought no way can I go in there, Im going to look silly.

Its hard to walk into a gym when youre the fat guy but I agreed to go along.

Matthew hasnt looked back since, and shed the weight by going to the gym every day for one hour, cutting out alcohol and junk food and making healthy meals which he says keeps him motivated.

Does Thinking Make You Lose Weight? Science Has The Answer – Gentside UK

It is a known fact: brain activity burns calories. But to what extent? Would a good argument help to burn more of them? Science has spoken, read on to find out more.

Like football, swimming or tennis, chess is considered a sport. Although they sit for several hours straight, it has been measured that some chess players can burn several thousand calories a day, thanks to intense brain activity. And for good reason: just at rest, our brain consumes on average 20% of the body's total energy.

This energy is used to maintain the activity of vital organs, to allow us to breathe, digest and function normally. This translates into 350 to 450 calories naturally burned every day... for an adult, because in the case of a child aged 5-6 years, 'the brain can use up to 60% of body energy,' Doug Boyer, a researcher at Duke University in the United States, told LiveScience.

To take it a bit further: would it be possible to burn more calories by thinking a little harder? Scientists have tried to measure it and their answer is: yes... but there's a catch.

Thinking, a sport like any other?

'When you train to learn a new skill, the brain adapts to increase the transfer of energy to the brain regions activated by exercise,' says Claude Messier, a professor of psychology and neuroscience at the Canadian University of Ottawa. 'After a while, as we become more competent in a particular task, the brain no longer needs to carburise so much to accomplish that task and will no longer need so much energy.'

Besides, however intense your thinking may be, the loss of calories is not likely to be very high. To summarise, it is possible to burn more calories by thinking... but not enough to keep you in shape. There is nothing like a healthy diet and regular physical activity.

Mike Tyson puzzled by Andy Ruiz Jr weight loss ahead of Anthony Joshua rematch – Irish Mirror

Mike Tyson has admitted he's puzzled by Andy Ruiz Jr's decision to lose weight ahead of his rematch with Anthony Joshua.

Mexican Ruiz has shown off a more svelte figure ahead of his second meeting with Brit Joshua - which takes place in Saudi Arabia on December 7.

Ruiz was the butt of many jokes for the way he looked when he stepped into to fight Joshua at the last minute in June.

But he stunned his heavyweight rival to claim the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO world titles at Madison Square Gardens with a TKO.

Tyson has seen the new look Ruiz and reckons that the change "makes no sense" and thinks vanity might have got the better of him.

Tyson told Parimatch: "I just dont think that makes any sense.

"But everybody has their own thing, their vanity gets the best of them, they say 'Hey, I wanna look good doing this stuff', I dont know.

"But Im a believer that if its not broken, dont fix it.

"The only thing Ruiz has to do is do what he did last fight.

"Thats all he has to live off of, from his memories, so to speak, from the last fight."

The Mexican-American expects to weigh less for the rematch but insists his performance will not be affected.

"Me? People are saying I lost too much weight, I won't be strong, he will move me around," Ruiz said. "I am losing eight pounds from what I weighed on June 1. I'll still be the same, I'll still be strong.

"AJ has always been in shape. He has always looked really good, really cut up."

Ruiz Jr has outlined his last-minute preparations before the rematch.

"Right now, we are meditating, we are preparing, we are getting sharper in the ring and training as well. We are visualising the fight and becoming victorious, said Ruiz.

To all my fans please come and support me, its going to be a huge fight, its the Clash On The Dunes. We are two big guys fighting each other looking to be the Heavyweight Champion of the World.

Hes trying to take my belts away so Im going to do everything thats possible to win and Im going to do it for all my people.

They can expect to see someone who is not giving up and doing everything possible to win, God willing we are going to take this victory.

123Diet Inspires Weight Loss Down Through The Generations – GlobeNewswire

Mazz and Sam before and after their 123Diet journey

A healthy Thanksgiving plate!

BOCA RATON, FL, Nov. 27, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mazz Sturgeon knew she needed to lose weight. According to her, she has struggled with emotional eating since she was in her twenties, and though she was initially able to keep her weight under control, things changed when she was about forty.

Mazz then began to put on weight rapidly without any change in her eating patterns and was subsequently diagnosed with an underactive thyroid. My doctor told me that even a glass of water might make me put on weight, Mazz said.

Things only worsened when Mazz began to blame her medical conditions for her excess weight, as she began to use them as an excuse not to care what she was putting in her mouth. So she continued to gain weight, ballooning to 106 kilos (233 lbs) at only 5 ft 4! Mazzs unhealthy lifestyle caused her health to deteriorate further, and she was soon diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.

So when Mazz found Emma Taylors 123Diet, her mind was finally in the right place to make a big change. This sensational program, which is sweeping the nation in Australia, works by combining a healthy, clean-eating meal plan with the 123Diets signature drops, which work to boost dieters metabolisms. This allows them to lose weight more rapidly than they could by dieting alone. The drops also suppress dieters ability to detect sweet tastes, thus blunting their sugar cravings and suppressing their appetites.

As an emotional eater, Mazz initially found having to give up her unhealthy comfort foods difficult, but once she began to see the amazing changes in her body, she became enthusiastic about staying on track! Unlike other diets, the 123Diet allowed Mazz to see a loss on the scale every day, which helped keep her motivated. Mazz was also inspired to stay healthy by the creative and delicious recipes she found on the diets active Facebook support group.

In the end, Mazz lost 40 kilos (88 lbs) in only 11 months, putting her at a healthy weight of 65 kg (145 lbs). Even more remarkably, she reports that she was able to reduce her medications by two thirds and to eliminate some of them altogether. I have so much more energy, have bought a push bike, and want to exercise! Mazz says.

Yet Mazzs greatest joy from the 123Diet was helping her daughter Samantha to change her life as well. Samantha also suffered from medical issues due to her weight, but Mazzs success encouraged her daughter to follow in her mothers footsteps. Samantha ultimately lost an amazing 35 kilos (77 lbs)!

Mazz even convinced her husband to join in, and he was able to go from 120 kilos (264 lbs) to 105 kilos (231 lbs)! All three have maintained their new weights since, and the family is now looking forward to a happier and healthier future.

Since the holidays can be a difficult time for someone beginning a weight loss journey, Emma also wanted to share a few tips to help everyone have a Thanksgiving thats both happy and healthy. Once youve survived this holiday, it might be a great time to give the 123Diet a try if you do, you might be able to lose as much as 5 kilos (10 lbs) before Christmas!
