How to lose weight and build a muscular body like this guy did without following any fad diets – GQ India – What a man’s got to do
Quick-fix hacks are like bad bandages that never stick. And naturally, never heal. A quick-fix weight loss diet or a quick-fix hack to lose weight or routine works on the same lines. Youll be able to shed some weight initially but in the long run, quick-fix hacks such as crash dieting and fat burners will harm your health rather than assist in building a fitter future. 28-year-old Rahul Jain, a doctor by profession, tells us that he had been struggling with weight issues since he was a kid, and now seeing seeing patients almost as old as himself dealing with chronic health issues, he realised that he did not want to end up becoming someone whose life is dependent on medicines.
In addition to this, he also elaborates that hes an outdoorsy person and loves going on treks and hikes. I have always enjoyed going for hiking trips and treks but when that started becoming a hassle because of my body weight, I knew I had to make changes when the fun started becoming pain.
I commenced my weight loss journey in March 2018 at 98 kgs and by this year August, I trimmed to 61 kgs. I was able to do so by following the below weight loss plan.
To lose weight, Rahul started working out regularly, eating right by choosing to opt for a sustainable diet plan.
"When I say my weight loss diet plan was sustainable in nature, what I mean to say is that this diet only comprised home food. All my meals were also timed."
"Id eat breakfast at 8:00 am sharp. Lunch would be consumed around 12:30 pm and dinner by 6:30 - 7:00 pm. My lunch and dinner would include 2 chapatis without any ghee, pickle or other side accompaniments that could be avoided + 1-2 bowls of veggies + 1 bowl of curd. If the veggies I am eating on a particular day were low on calories, I would treat myself to a papad. Similarly, if I was eating potatoes then Id skip the papad or any other accompaniments to strike a balance. I never avoided anything totally portion control was the key."
"In between lunch and dinner, Id enjoy a light snack of homemade mathri/peanut butter with tea or fruits and also have two cups of coffee throughout the day. And, when I say I didnt avoid anything totally that also meant sweets. If I craved a Rasgulla or Jalebi, I would eat the sweet but then remove something from my usual meals to maintain my calorie intake."
"Initially, I wasn't logging any of my meals to track my calorie intake but from the September of 2018, I started calculating my meals via an IIFYM calculator. This helped me plan my meals better. Abs are great but so are butter naan and pizzas I cannot leave it forever but I can have 2 pieces instead of 3/4 or 1 naan with butter and one without it. Actually, so can you and so can anyone, just make sure it meets your IIFYM targets even if that required me to skip my dinner for a delicious high calorie lunch."
QUICK READ: How many calories should you eat every day to lose weight?
IIFYM is a flexible dieting option, which requires you to calculate how many grams of macronutrients (protein, fat and carbohydrates) you need to eat each day, and then tracking your food intake accordingly. IIFYM diet lets one enjoy their favourite guilty pleasure as long as theyre meeting the bodys needs. Yes, ice cream is an option in this diet but you've got to tread carefully.
QUICK READ: How to lose weight by calculating your macronutrients right
The thing with weight loss is that you have to be patient and not keep hopping from one gym to another, or from one trainer to another if you dont see any immediate results. I started by indulging in a 40-minute cross functional training routine and also go for a run and hike on an off day. I made sure that I followed this routine at least 5 days in a week and not skip the routine as much as I could, even when on a hiking trip. My coach helped me prepare a 10-15 minutes workout routine, which can be done anywhere.
This quick routine included: 10 mins of 3 burpees, 5 air squats, 7 crunches - actually as many rounds of these three as possible OR 3 rounds, 50 jumping jacks, 40 butt kickers, 30 mountain climbers, 20 shoulder taps/lunges, 10 push-ups and 5 burpees
"Currently I'm on a calorie surplus, and want to achieve a target weight goal of 75 kgs. But I workout daily or indulge in some form of physical activity and log all my meals to portion control and maintain my bodys form."
"Believe in what you are doing and also on your coach. I started working out with the Shivfit7clan and have had a great experience with the coaches and team here. Also, don't fall for the shortcut fad diets they dont work. Only hard work pays off."

How to prevent the weight you’ve lost from returning – Honolulu Star-Advertiser
Oprah Winfrey is one of the worlds most famous yo-yo dieters. She lost 67 pounds in 1988; by late 1990 she had regained most of that weight. In 1994 she was thin again and she completed the Marine Corps Marathon. But by 2008 when she hit 200-plus pounds, she wrote in O Magazine that she felt really uncomfortable! Since then shes lost 42 pounds and hopes to never have to try to lose weight again.
Down and up. Down and up. Its a hard pattern to break, and one that millions of Americans experience annually. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from 2013 to 2016 around 56% of women and 42% of men tried to lose weight. But research shows that in the first year after dieting, most folks regain 33% to 66% of the weight they lost, and almost all the weight is regained within five years. Thats hard on your spirit, your clothes budget and your body!
Some studies have shown that yo-yo dieting increases your risk for heart disease and stroke, leads to added weight gain and raises your risk for a variety of health problems related to chronic inflammation. It can also lead to long-term loss of muscle mass if you dont eat enough lean protein to fight it off. That makes you weaker and lowers your metabolism, making it easier to regain weight.
WHY MAINTAINING WEIGHT LOSS IS SO HARD
Extreme action (super food deprivation, precipitous weight loss, over-exercising) leads to an equal and opposite reaction (indulgence in comfort foods, sedentary behavior and a physiological reaction where the body thinks, Yikes! Im starving; feed me more!). That causes weight rebound.
4 WAYS TO MAINTAIN WEIGHT LOSS
1. Learn a stress management technique and practice it daily. People who manage stress successfully lose weight without even trying. Meditation is useful for easing stress and focusing your determination.
2. Lose weight slowly (a half- to one pound a week) by changing your eating habits and increasing your activity level. That lets your body your behavior patterns and metabolism adjust so that youre less likely to regain lost weight.
3. Change your relationship to food. Theres no ironclad diet that is the key to losing and keeping off excess weight. Moderation within some easy-to-follow guidelines does the trick.
>> Go for a plant-centered diet; eat lean animal protein and fish; enjoy healthy oils from nuts, olive oil; and choose fiber-rich foods like 100% whole grains and produce. But stay flexible. Enjoy your options.
>> Identify when you use food for emotional comfort. As you reach for that box of cookies, ask yourself, Am I bored? Anxious? Sad? Then make sure to have snack alternatives like nuts and pre-cut veggies around. Also try activities to ease those emotions: Take a walk, call a friend or write in a diary.
>> Learn to cook new dishes. Spend time reading through recipes online. Pick one a week thats tasty and healthy. Make shopping a fun excursion. Get your kids and partner involved. Have a friend over to try your creation.
>> Do not eat after 6:30 p.m., eat your biggest meal at midday and have breakfast at least 13 hours after dinner.
4. Move more; build muscle mass.
>> Its never too late to gain benefits from physical activity, so start with whatever makes you comfortable and build endurance slowly. Every week, try to increase your efforts by 10%. Do you walk for 20 minutes a day? Then go for 22 minutes. Your ultimate goal is 300 minutes of physical activity a week. With 22 minutes x 7 days a week = 154 thats more than halfway there!
>> Diversify your activities. Combine walking and aerobics with bouts of intense effort, strength building, agility and balance skills (yoga, jumping, Pilates). There are enough choices to find something that is enjoyable every day.
Once you have lost weight, adopt these guidelines and youre on your way to a lifetime of better health and happiness.

How to prevent the weight you've lost from returning - Honolulu Star-Advertiser
Alfred Dawes | Are you really on a diet? – Jamaica Gleaner
I face them every day: Frustrated patients who are trying to lose weight that just doesnt seem able to come off. They try every diet from cabbage soup to ketogenic. Expensive injections and shakes work for a while but the weight just keeps coming back. They exercise but there is barely a flicker on the scale. What am I doing wrong, Doc?
To understand weight gain and weight loss, there is a simple formula that you must learn:
Weight change = calories consumed calories burned.
It is as simple as that. If you consume more calories than you are burning, those excess calories will be stored as fat. If you are burning more calories than you are taking in, only then will you lose weight. The big problem that most of us have is that we underestimate how many calories we are consuming, and overestimate how much we burn through exercise. The second major issue is that we think we are in a caloric deficit when we are not.
Let us look at both of these impediments to weight loss.
If we were to religiously track how many calories we consume for the day, most of us would be in for a surprise. One often repeated phrase is I hardly eat. While that may be true in terms of meal frequency and size, the source of the calories can be the cause for a caloric surplus.
Most nutritional labels only give the caloric values of the serving size. But there are multiple servings in a container. For example, per serving for a tin of corned beef, there are 130 calories. That seems low until you realise that there are six servings in the regular size tin. That is 780 calories.
The calories in a pack of crackers is not the 120 you see per serving, but 420 calories. So a half a tin of bully beef and crackers is over 800 calories. And you havent drank the juice that could be another 200 calories. Thats 1,000 calories from one light meal.
A round bun as a snack 450 calories; sweet biscuit or chips, easily 400 calories. Sandwiches can be calorie dense when the condiments and type of meat is factored in. And then there is bread. Two slices, 260 calories, and we havent added the butter yet.
Even fruits and shakes with their high sugar content are hidden sources of calories. A salad, with croutons, dressings, cheese, etc., can be over 1,000 calories.
You may be eating healthy, but one snack or bad meal totally destroys your caloric deficit. Many persons fall into the trap where they feel they are eating healthy but they are still taking in too many calories.
On the other side of the equation, we overestimate how much we burn at the gym. Are we looking at the time spent working out or the quality of the effort? You could be in the gym for an hour and burn only 200-300 calories. You feel hungry after the workout or buy into the idea that you must fuel your body with sports drinks or more food.
What actually happens is that you cancel out the calories burned and are back at square one.
Exercises such as walking and running burn more calories the heavier you are. But as you get slimmer, there is less weight for your muscles to move around so you require less energy, that is, you burn less calories for the same distance than when you were bigger.
To understand how many calories we need to eat and burn, we need to know what is our Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). The BMR is the minimum number of calories required to run our bodies when at rest.
Organs such as the brain, heart, liver and kidneys need calories to fully function. Our skeletal muscle primarily burns fat at rest and is the contributor to the BMR we can increase consciously. Depending on your age, sex and weight, your BMR can range from 1,200 to 2,500 calories per day on average.
Our daily activities such as walking and any manual labour add to this BMR and we get our total caloric requirements per day. The big problem is that we do not know what is our BMR and so we overestimate how many calories we require for daily activities.
I myself was surprised that my BMR was 10 per cent lower than what was expected for my age and size. For others, its even worse. You may be looking at nutritional labels giving calories as a percentage of a 2,000cal/day diet when your BMR is only 1,500 cals/day!
One of the main issues why I dont endorse crash diets and teas is that they lead to a severe caloric deficit. When your body is in such a deficit, it reaches for any available stored energy. That could be fat and protein from skeletal muscle. If you are not protecting your muscles with enough protein in your diet, your muscle mass shrinks, and with that its contribution to your BMR. Your daily caloric requirements fall and as soon as you are off the diet, the weight returns with a vengeance.
Applying these principles in a consistent manner instead of quick fixes can lead to long-term weight loss in the overweight but not the morbidly obese. That is where it gets complex. Ill get into that in my next article.

Tips on How to Lose Weight with Apple Cider Vinegar – Daily Hawker
Apple cider vinegar is made with a two-step fermentation process.
Initially, the apples are cut or crushed and combined with yeast. Then the fermentation helps to convert their sugar into alcohol. Second, bacteria is added to ferment the alcohol into acetic acid.
Apple cider vinegar is made with apples that cut or crushed and combined with yeast to convert their sugar into alcohol. Then bacteria are added to ferment the alcohol into acetic acid. Not only is Apple Cider Vinegar a totally low-calorie solution but apple cider also contains potassium along with amino acids and antioxidants that promote a healthy gut!
Since acetic acid is the main active component of apple cider vinegar, around 5 to 6% of apple cider vinegar consists of acetic acid. It also contains water and trace amounts of other acids, such as malic acid.
One tablespoon (15 ml) of apple cider vinegar contains about three calories and virtually no carbs.
WARNING:Its great that you want to lose weight with Apple Cider Vinegar but taking more thanrecommended is dangerous.
Because of potentially harmful effects at higher dosages, you can experience drug interactions or the erosion of tooth enamel.
Its also best to start off with 1 teaspoon (5 ml) per meal to see how you tolerate it.
Its important to mix it with water, as undiluted vinegar may burn the inside of your mouth and esophagus.
When you type in how to lose weight with Apple Cider Vinegar, the articles youll see are endless. This is because various doctors and nutritionists can all verify that Apple Cider Vinegar benefits the body in many ways. One of which is weight loss.
The real reason for why Apple Cider Vinegar works is because it contains Acetic Acid.
The pH of our bodies varies depending on which body part we focus on. For example, our urine has to have a different pH and our saliva has to have a different pH. The different parts of our body have different levels of pH. The key is to know your blood pH level and adjust accordingly.
Did you know that heartburn, acid reflux and indigestion are ALL caused by the stomach becoming tooalkaline. Nop, its not too acidic, in fact it is actually too alkaline!
So the next time you have acid reflux, dont just take our word for it, try Apple Cider Vinegar which is acidic thanks to Acetic Acid) and see the difference!
We need more Apple Cider Vinegar (containing Acetic Acid acid which has a pH of 2.5, almost as strong as natural stomach acid) as we start to age. This is because when you reach the age of 50, 60 and above, your pH in your stomach goes higher and higher which makes the stomach alkaline. So we need more acid as we age.
Many people complain about heartburn as they age. This is caused by stomach acid escaping through the value as it doesnt close.
Once you understand that when the pH of your stomach is too alkaline(read above) it causes conditions like acid reflux. Therefore, it needs an acid (since the stomach is too alkaline) to calm down acidity, which in reality should not be called acidity. When Apple Cider Vinegar goes into our bodies, it helps to close up that value and prevents more acid escaping.
Acetic Acid is very acidic and is used to cure various conditions like acid reflux in which the stomach becomes too much alkaline. This is because the slightest change from drinking Apple Cider Vinegar (which contains Acetic Acid) will change your pH and that will aid in transporting minerals, allowing enzymes to work, stimulate the thyroid and increase metabolism.
Apple Cider Vinegar and its Acetic Acid helps to digest more protein and absorb more CALCIUM. Those who have never had any Apple Cider Vinegar are missing out on some serious goodness as their bodies face a risk of being too alkaline. Instead of worrying about how to lose weight with Apple Cider Vinegar, we need to see the incredible benefit of breaking down proteins and calcium needed for weight loss and rebuilding.
When you dont drink Apple Cider Vinegar, Calcium tends to build up in soft tissues throughout the body. This causes a lot of stiffness and excessive calcium build up on the joints leading to arthritis and calcium developing too much in their eyes also known as cataracts. Excess calcium can also develop in the form of kidney stones in the kidneys or gallbladder stones in the gallbladder.
If you show symptoms of calcium or potassium deficiency then in that case you can use apple cider vinegar.
There are many benefits of apple cider vinegar and Apple cider vinegar is fantastic for all sorts of ailments, but not because of its nutritional content, but from the ability to acidify the body.
The stress hormone, cortisol is the main reason which causes our bodies to become too alkaline over time. So, the worst thing when it comes to questioning how to lose weight with Apple Cider Vinegar is to consume it for a day or two and then leave it. It helps the body to balance its pH and thats why its so fantastic.
Due to the common excessive alkalinity a good portion of the population has, apple cider vinegar is a safe and healthy solution.
We know that Apple Cider Vinegar helps with loosening the joints and absorbing calcium deposits. Therefore, Apple Cider Vinegar will help to get rid of these cramps.

”I believe in doing things in moderation” – Outlook India
''I believe in doing things in moderation''
New Delhi, Nov 20 (IANSlife) Bollywood actress Diana Penty reveals she is a "huge foodie" but also believes doing everything in moderation. In an interview with IANSlife, the "Happy Bhag Jayegi" actress gives us a peak into her lifestyle.
Your fitness regime?
Penty: My fitness regime at the moment is pretty simple. I was doing pilates a couple of months ago. Now I''ve switched it to light weight training and strength regime intentionally. I don''t do too much cardio, because I lose weight very quickly. So it''s just weight and strength training. What is your diet regime?
Penty: I try to be as healthy as possible. But the problem for me is that I''m a huge foodie. I mean, I''m literally passionate about food. I love trying new restaurants, new cuisine. It just makes me really happy. So it''s very difficult for me to eat completely healthy. But I also believe in doing things in moderation and maintaining a certain balance. I''m not one of those very extreme kind of people. As long as you do it in moderation, you don''t overdo it and if you can compensate it, then it''s fine. It is important to regularly hit the gym and work out.Your fitness essentials?
Penty: I have to admit that I''m terrible when it comes to following and sticking to my fitness regime when I''m traveling. Unfortunately, I need to be pushed. I tend to take it kind of easy. I''m also very dependent on my trainer when I''m working out. But there are ways to make up for it. I realise that when I''m traveling I end up doing a lot of walking. If I''m going to a city that''s friendly for walking, it ususally compensates. Walking is great exercise it''s cardio, I also tend to eat healthier.
Any suggestion for people who are struggling to lose weight?
Penty: I''m the wrong person to ask for advice when it comes to losing weight because I''ve never been on that side of the fence. I''ve always tried very hard to gain weight since I was very young. But for either way, it''s important to work out regularly, eat healthy. Be conscious of your diet to whatever extent possible. It''s about tmaintaing balance. Keep hydrated all the time and just live a healthier lifestyle.

How to live longer: Best diet to increase life expectancy – how many calories to eat – Express
The secret to long life expectancy is to follow a healthy lifestyle - regularly exercising, limiting alcohol intake, not smoking and eating a healthy balanced diet. When it comes to eating a healthy diet, the NHS recommends eating at least five portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables every day, basing meals on higher fibre starchy foods like potatoes, bread, rice or pasta, having some dairy or dairy alternatives, some protein, choosing unsaturated oils and spreads, and eating them in small amounts, and drinking plenty of fluids.
Many diet plans incorporate these elements of healthy eating, but with so many diets to choose from - from vegan to keto - which one can help people live longer?
Research carried out on humans indicates calorie-restricted diets can slow down the ageing process and increase longevity.
One study published in Cell Metabolism journal concluded cutting calorie intake by 15 percent over two years can also ageing and protect against diseases like cancer, diabetes and dementia.
The diets work by helping slow the metabolic rate and reducing free radicals linked to chronic illnesses.
READ MORE:How to live longer: The surprising food you could eat every day for a longer life
A total of 53 healthy, non-obese people between the ages of 21 and 50 took part in the study.
Researchers said they discovered even people who are healthy and lean can benefit from following calorie-restricted diets.
Another study published in Science Translational Medicine also showed an extreme calorie-restricted diet, practiced for five days a month for three months, help the body with ageing.
The diet used was plant based and included energy bars and vegetable soups.
DON'T MISS
Another study published in Nature Communications showed calorie-restricted diets carried health benefits for monkeys.
And another study done at Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis indicated some animals lived up to 50 percent longer after significantly cutting calories.
The diets, whether started early or in midlife in animals, can increase longevity, according to researchers.
How many calories a day are recommended?
As a guide, the NHS says an average man needs around 2,500kcal (10,500kJ) a day to maintain a healthy body weight.
For an average woman, that figure is around 2,000kcal (8,400kj) a day.
But these values can vary depending on age, size and levels of physical activity, among other factors.
With many low calorie diets, people get between 800 and 1,500 calories a day.
Eating 800 calories a day for fewer is considered a very low calorie diet (VLCD) and should be clinically supervised.

Trump is ‘healthy as can be,’ White House press secretary says after doctor visit – The Advocate
Felicia Sonmez and Lenny Bernstein, The Washington Post
WASHINGTON - White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham said it is "absolutely not" true that President Donald Trump's visit to a doctor Saturday was anything other than a routine physical exam, maintaining that he is "healthy as can be."
"Oh, the rumors are always flying," Grisham said Saturday when asked during an interview with Fox News Channel host Jeanine Pirro whether there was any truth to the speculation that the visit was out of the ordinary. "Absolutely not. He is healthy as can be. I put a statement out about that. He's got more energy than anybody in the White House. That man works from 6 a.m. until, you know, very, very late at night. He's doing just fine."
Trump, 73, made a visit Saturday afternoon to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md. The trip came on a day when the president had no public events on his schedule.
Trump had his first annual physical as president in January 2018. His second was in February 2019. Trump's doctors hailed his health as "excellent" and "very good" after those exams.
Trump mentioned his visit to Walter Reed in a tweet early Sunday.
"Visited a great family of a young man under major surgery at the amazing Walter Reed Medical Center," he said. "Those are truly some of the best doctors anywhere in the world. Also began phase one of my yearly physical. Everything very good (great!). Will complete next year."
For a typical annual physical exam, a patient would fast, usually overnight, so accurate blood tests could be performed. The White House said that Trump was getting a jump on a portion of his physical and that lab work was included.
Trump's 2018 checkup, which included a voluntary cognitive test at a time when critics were questioning his mental fitness, began about 1 p.m. and lasted more than three hours, according to the report given at the time by then-White House physician Ronny Jackson. Twelve other doctors consulted in the tests.
Other than being overweight and having high cholesterol, Trump's results were normal, Jackson said then, crediting the president's genes for his overall good health.
At his 2019 exam, Trump had crept over the line into obesity at 243 pounds, joining about 40% of American adults in that category.
According to the White House, his heart rate during the February exam was 70 beats per minute and his blood pressure was 118/80 mmHg, both good. The dosage of his cholesterol-lowering drug had been increased, the White House reported.
A president's physical exam also might include an electrocardiogram and perhaps a stress test, which involves walking on a treadmill or riding a stationary bicycle while physicians monitor blood flow in the heart, blood pressure and breathing. Trump could return to Walter Reed for those.
Undergoing a physical is voluntary, and Trump has the right to decide how much information he wants to release to the public. Jackson said in 2018 that "absolutely nothing" was withheld from the public and that Trump's release of information then was the broadest in history.
Trump doesn't drink alcohol or smoke, but he is fond of fast food; his exercise routine consists mainly of golf.
In a statement Saturday, Grisham said Trump "remains healthy and energetic without complaints, as demonstrated by his repeated vigorous rally performances in front of thousands of Americans several times a week."
Grisham said Trump also "stopped by to say hello to the medical staff of Walter Reed, to share his thanks for all the outstanding care they provide to our Wounded Warriors, and wish them an early happy Thanksgiving."
During the visit, Trump met with the family of a Special Forces soldier who had been injured in Afghanistan, she added.
Later, in her appearance on Fox News Channel, Grisham said Trump has "a really busy year ahead," so he "decided to go to Walter Reed and kind of get a head start with some routine checkups as part of his annual exam."
"That's all it was. It was very routine. We had a down day today. And so, he made the decision to head there," she said.
As she wrapped up the interview, Pirro described Trump as "almost superhuman," adding, "I don't know how anyone can deal with what he's dealing with" in Washington.

Weight loss: I was so fat I had to quit my job after years of gorging on takeaways – The Sun
TIPPING the scales at a staggering 17 stone, Louise Nicola Hickson was no longer able to work.
Her weight had spiralled so out of control that her energy levels had plummeted to an all-time low and she could barely walk without being in pain.
19
Determined not to end up like her father who has type 2 diabetes, Louise, 28, decided to take drastic action to shed the pounds.
She overhauled her diet after after having vertical sleeve gastrectomy surgery and has since shed an impressive eight stone.
Louise, from Luton, is now more confident than ever and no longer suffers from depression.
She said: "Ive been like 90 per cent happier than I ever was before."
19
19
Louise had piled on the pounds after years of gorging on Chinese and chicken takeaways.
She suffered with PCOS, depression and anxiety and used food to comfort her - munching on bacon sandwiches with crisps for lunch and carb heavy super-sized portions for dinner.
And the weight began taking a huge toll on her life - and she could barely keep up with her family when they went out shopping.
Louise was alsoregularly getting sick with infections which she believes was due to the extra pounds she carried with her.

She said: "Im a bubbly type of person and always try to make people laugh. Actually, I used to use my humour to disguise my weight sometimes.
"Things that lead to my weight gain are a mix of PCOS, depression, anxiety and binge drinking.
"I honestly tried not to think about it too much and I was always in denial about my appearance.
"In time things I couldnt ignore started mounting up.
"I felt rubbish all the time, my periods were erratic and painful.
"I stayed in for days not doing anything until the weekend then Id binge drink and eat my weight in calories.
"I could barely walk five minutes before my legs and feet were on fire and I couldnt keep up with my family."

Louise was reminded of her weight occasionally by her father Richard, who warned her that she didnt want to end up with diabetes like him.
And while he urged her to shift the weight, it continue to pile on - to the point she was forced to quit her job.
Louise said: My dad used to say that he hoped I never got to where he was because he has diabetes.
"It got to the point I left my job as I didnt have energy to do it and then my depression got worse."

Louise's wake-up call came when she stepped on the scales and was mortified when she saw she weighed a hefty 17st and was also wearing a UK dress size 22.
"I felt embarrassed and a little shocked when I got onto the scales on December 2016 and with my mental health suffering, I knew now was the time for me to make some serious changes about my health," she said.
In February 2018 Louise decided to have vertical sleeve gastrectomy surgery (VSG) and afterwards she knew she had to change her relationship with food and alcohol.

She said: "I decided to have VSG surgery on November 2017 and had the operation February 2018. "After that I had to learn to have a much healthier relationship with food.
"Now breakfast is usually a healthy fry up in my air fryer.
"Lunch can be either a chicken or salmon salad or a protein shake.
"Dinners are low carb alternatives of everyday meals like curry, Bolognese, roasts.
"I try to snack on low calorie alternatives and fruit where I can but never restrict myself from enjoying some chocolate too. As long as its balanced.
"With consistency I have managed to lose eight stone in about a year and half and I no longer wear a 22 dress but a size 8."

How losing weight helped Eastwood mum fight depression and family trauma – Eastwood Advertiser
A mum from Eastwood has told how slimming regimes have helped her make three miraculous recoveries from depression and family trauma, as well as lose weight.
Julie Noble celebrated her 51st birthday last weekend with a family holiday after reaching her target weight of 10st 10lb.
But the joy of a trip to the Tattershall Lakes Country Park resort in Lincolnshire was in stark contrast to the dark days of 1999, 2012 and 2016.
Twenty years ago, Julie hit the scales at 18st 10lb and wore size-34 clothes after a negative battle with weight-control.
She recalled: I didnt feel comfortable in myself at all. I thought I was being stared at all the time, and life was just so unpleasant.
With the help of Weight Watchers, Julie lost eight stone in preparation for an operation on her varicose veins.
But then she piled on the pounds again, and by 2012, she had joined Slimming World after ballooning to nearly 16st. She said: I felt so uncomfortable and I was suffering from depression.
Within 12 months, she had shed 5st before her rollercoaster weight-ride yielded a third lapse three years ago. This time, it was caused by the shock and anguish of her eldest son, Ashley, being diagnosed with bone cancer.
Ashley, now 26, was in the operating theatre for more than 16 hours as he had his pelvis removed. The bottom of his spine was also badly affected, and his recovery is still not complete.
With all the worry, I put on two-and-a-half stone, said mother-of-four Julie, who is a supervisor at Peacocks store in Eastwood. But with the help of Slimming Worlds amazing plan, I have lost it.
Its all been very emotional. But weve got our lives back on track now, and I can enjoy everything again.
JULIES story is now set to inspire other would-be slimmers because she launches her own Slimming World class as a consultant at Plumptre Hall in Eastwood every Friday from 9 am.
Full of praise for her is her mentor, Jeanette Chawner, who says: Slimming World has changed Julies life. Her world collapsed when her son was diagnosed with cancer and she was at his bedside for days. But her eating and health issues are no longer a problem, and she is feeling confident enough to invest in herself and her own business.
