Tillotama had to lose weight, needed dialect training for Raahgir – Times of India
Tillotama Shome essays a pivotal role in National-Award winning filmmaker Goutam Ghoses latest Raahgir which was screened at the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival recently. The film also stars Adil Hussain and Neeraj Kabi in the lead and revolves around three strangers Nathuni (Tillotama), Lakhua (Adil) and Chopatlal (Kabi) who cross each others path accidentally on a journey and develop a strong bond. Speaking about her experiences of shooting for the slice-of-a-life drama, the versatile actress says how she was up close with nature and saw the real picture of rural India. I had to lose weight and needed dialect training. That, strangely, was easier to do than come to terms with the abject poverty of the character I had to play. In the middle of a shot at a bus stop, where Lakhua and Nathuni take some much-needed rest, I was overwhelmed by how little they had. I told Goutam, I am not going to play a poor person for some time, as I became nauseatingly aware of my immense privilege. This had never come up in the last twenty years, in such a physical way, said Tillotama. Raahgir was also screened at the Mumbai film festival after its world premiere at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival.

SARMs: Is It Safe or Not? – The Good Men Project
Please Note: This article is presented for informational purposes only and is not meant to diagnose or treat any illness. If you have any health concern, see a licensed healthcare professional in person.
Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs) can imitate testosterone reactions in the bodys muscle and bone tissues.
When they bind with selective receptors, they can avoid many of the negative side effects caused by steroids. Since SARMs are a better alternative to more severe drugs on the market, the Food and Drug Administration is currently going through some trials to approve the use of SARMs.
After the World Anti-Doping Agency banned this chemical in 2008, only scientists could buy them for research purposes. However, they have proven to be highly beneficial for treating muscle loss in the eldery and people suffering from muscle-related illnesses.
The problem is that these drugs are believed to pose serious health risks, leading to heart attacks, liver toxicity, and strokes. Lets find out more.
When it binds with androgen receptors, the testosterone hormone helps the body to grow facial hair, gain muscle, lose body fat, deepen your voice, etc. The androgen receptors then transform into Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which converts into estrogen, and binds with the receptors in the cell.
This process continues naturally until old age when the body stops producing as much testosterone. SARMs stimulate the cells to produce androgens so that the muscles can continue to grow.
The drugs worked miracles for elderly people and cancer patients who were dealing with chronic fatigue, osteoporosis, and anemia. Scientists claim that SARMs can help treat obesity, boost appetite, improve bone health, and prevent muscle wastage.
There are several benefits of SARMs which are:
SARMs can help you work out for longer periods without getting tired. Strength training requires stamina, power, and the ability to keep improving over time. Many people may not possess this ability naturally, which is where SARMs come in.
Although adequate nutrition is also essential before and after working out, health supplements, like SARMs, can prevent muscle wasting. Motivation and strength are two important factors when working out and SARMs act as boosters for this.
Losing weight takes determination and hard work. Some fats are stubborn, and they stick to vital organs and muscles. SARMs are good at getting rid of these stubborn fats.
However, despite two people following the same workout routine and diet, one may look better than the other due to his or her reliance to SARMs.
Obese people can greatly benefit from using SARMs. But remember, its not advisable to rely only on this supplement without working out and following a healthy diet.
Aesthetics is not only about losing weight, its also about shaping your body adequately by building muscle. Your muscle mass is determined by your nutrition, genetics, history of training, and lifestyle.
Steroids can bulk you up, building both fat and muscle. On the other hand, SARMs only build lean muscles. In this case, SARMs are considered to be healthier and more effective than steroids for gaining muscle mass, because steroids interfere with the liver, kidney, lungs, heart, and other organs.
There is little evidence to confirm that SARMs can cure tumors. However, the supplements have been proven to heal diseases related to the bodys skeletal system.
Some people have weak bones, brittle bones, poor bone density, fractured bones, or osteoporosis. SARMs supplements can heal and strengthen bones, increase bone density, reduce inflammation, and cure osteoporosis.
SARMs can prevent and undo muscle wasting for good. People who suffer from muscle atrophy can gain lean muscles by taking SARMs.
Muscle wasting may be a hereditary condition or developed over time due to age. The condition can worsen if you dont treat it properly. Whats more, some people may display noticeable symptoms of this disease, while others may not.
All supplements have side effects, and so do SARMs. Lets take a look at the disadvantages of using this muscle-building supplement.
Despite its popularity, SARMs have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration and the World Anti-Doping Agency as suitable for human consumption. If they dont think its fit, should you be buying them?
Although theyre not as harmful as steroids, SARMs can affect other organs of the body, such as the liver, kidney, heart, etc. The risk of experiencing a stroke increases when you take SARMs.
Since it hasnt been approved by the FDA or WADA, naturally, there is a shortage of SARMs on the market. The supplement is available online, but users may have trouble continuing to use one brand long term.
This section will talk about the different types of SARMs.
The most popular SARM is Ostarine. It helps to preserve the muscle you have gained at the gym. It can do this even when youre on a caloric deficit. On average, you should take 10 to 25 mg of this drug for six to ten weeks.
Ostarine reduces the production of testosterone when used for a long period of time, so you also have to consume SERM PCT. The supplement is known to cause Gynecomastia in some people; hence, having an Aromatase Inhibitors (AI), such as Exemestane is important.
RAD 140 has an anabolic to androgenic ratio of 90:1, which means that users can gain muscle, lose weight, heal skeletal problems, feel stronger, and reduce muscle waste without any side effects.
This supplement needs to be taken twice a day, with doses ranging between 4 to 12 mg for four to six weeks. It also minimizes the effect of testosterone on the prostate, so you must take a Post Cycle Therapy (PCT) at the end of the cycle.
GW 501516 is more like a PPAR Delta Modulator that regulates the metabolism and development of cells. It creates more muscle tissue by using more glucose.
The dosage should be as low as 7 mg, and no higher than 20 mg. This is a non-hormonal supplement, so it wont affect your testosterone levels.
It also makes you more energetic, improves muscle mass, and increases endurance. Some people believe that GW 501516 improves the lipid profile and blood pressure.
MK 677 is a non-peptide and a secretion-boosting receptor. It promotes IGF-1 levels and the growth hormone by copying the functions of ghrelin. Luckily, it wont affect your cortisol level.
This supplement has shown that IGF-1 levels can be increased by 60% in just six months, whereas IGF-1 levels can be increased by 72% in 12 months. You should use it for about six months, increasing the dosage every month.
Its non-hormonal, so you wont be needing a PCT at the end of the cycle. Tingly hands and feeling numb are the common side effects of MK 677, so be aware.
LGD 4033 is like Ostarine, but more powerful. It suppresses the Hypothalamus-Pituitary-Testes-Axis system; hence, you need to undergo Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM) therapy after the completion of the cycle.
Andarine S4 can build muscles very quickly. The dosage is lower than those used in previous SARMs.
However, its known to alter vision in users who have been consuming it at 50 mg. Therefore, sticking to a minimum dosage of 10 mg is recommended. At the end of the cycle, you will need PCT.
SARMs have not been approved by the FDA and selling this drug for human consumption is illegal in the United States. However, they are sold on the market as research chemicals for scientists.
Taking SARMs will lower your testosterone levels, while Ostarine can lower them only when you take a higher dose.
Testolone will certainly lower your testosterone levels, so taking PCT is recommended. Generally speaking, you dont always have to take PCT after taking any SARMs it depends on the dose, the duration of the cycle, and the type of SARMs youre taking.
Getting your blood tested after the first cycle can give you an idea of how the supplement is affecting your testosterone levels. Then, only take PCT if you feel the symptoms of lower testosterone levels in your body.
By running health tests every month, youll be able to keep track of your wellbeing. If you see any changes due to SARMs supplements, talk to your doctor. If in doubt, stop taking the supplement immediately.
SARMs are not necessarily harmful. It all depends on your body type, the dosage youre taking, and the duration of the cycle.
If you want to be strong, work out longer at the gym, follow a healthy diet, and use SARMs as an added boost. But remember, since SARMs are not regulated for human consumption, you should only buy them from reputable brands.
Dont forget: get regular health check-ups with your doctor to determine the right dosage and cycle before you start taking SARMs. Good luck!

Kombucha, kimchi and yogurt: how fermented foods could be harmful to your health – The Conversation UK
Fermented foods have become very popular, thanks to claims about their nutritional properties and reported health benefits, such as improving digestion, boosting immunity and even helping people lose weight. Some of the most popular fermented foods include kefir, kombucha, sauerkraut, tempeh, natto, miso, kimchi and sourdough bread.
But though these fermented foods might offer us many health perks, most people arent aware that they might not work for everyone. For some people, fermented foods might cause serious health issues.
Fermented foods are loaded with microorganisms, such as live bacteria and yeast (known as probiotics). However, not all microorganisms are bad. Many, like probiotics, are harmless and are even beneficial to us.
During the process of fermentation, probiotics convert carbohydrates (starch and sugar) into alcohol and/or acids. These act as a natural preservative and give fermented foods their distinctive zest and flavour. Many factors affect fermentation, including the type of probiotic, the primary metabolites these microbes produce (such as lactic acid, or certain amino acids), and the food undergoing fermentation. For example, probiotic yogurt is produced by fermenting milk, most commonly with lactic acid bacteria which produce lactic acid.
Fermented foods contain high amounts of probiotics, which are generally considered safe for the majority of people. In fact, theyve been shown to have anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic and anti-atherosclerotic activity. However, some people might experience severe side effects after consuming fermented foods.
The most common reaction to fermented foods is a temporary increase in gas and bloating. This is the result of excess gas being produced after probiotics kill harmful gut bacteria and fungi. Probiotics secrete antiomicrobial peptides that kill harmful pathogenic organisms like Salmonella and E. Coli.
A recent study showed this antimicrobial effect of probiotic Lactobacilli strains found in commercial yogurt. Although bloating after eating probiotics seems to be a good sign that the harmful bacteria are being removed from the gut, some people might experience severe bloating, which can be very painful.
Drinking too much kombucha can also lead to excess sugar and calorie intake, which may also lead to bloating and gas.
Fermented foods rich in probiotics including yogurt, sauerkraut and kimchi naturally contain biogenic amines produced [during fermentation]. Amines are created by certain bacteria in order to break down the amino acids in fermented foods. The most common ones found in probiotic-rich foods include histamine and tyramine.
Some people are sensitive to histamine and other amines, and may experience headaches after eating fermented foods. Because amines stimulate the central nervous system, they can increase or decrease blood flow, which can trigger headaches and migraines. One study found that low-histamine diets reduced headaches in 75% of participants. Taking a probiotic supplement might be therefore preferred.
Histamine is plentiful in fermented foods. For most, our bodys specific enzymes will naturally digest them. However, some people dont produce enough of these enzymes. This means histamine wont be digested and will instead be absorbed into the bloodstream.
This can cause a range of histamine intolerance symptoms. The most common are itching, headaches or migraines, runny nose (rhinitis), eye redness, fatigue, hives and digestive symptoms include diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting.
However, histamine intolerance can also cause more severe symptoms, including asthma, low blood pressure, irregular heart rate, circulatory collapse, sudden psychological changes (such as anxiety, aggressiveness, dizziness and lack of concentration) and sleep disorders.
While most fermented foods are safe, its still possible for them to get contaminated with bacteria that can cause illness. In 2012, there was an outbreak of 89 cases of Salmonella in the US because of unpasteurised tempeh.
Two large outbreaks of Escherichia coli, were reported in South Korean schools in 2013 and 2014. These were associated with consumption of contaminated fermented vegetable kimchi.
In most cases, probiotics found in fermented milk products such as cheese, yogurt and buttermilk can effectively prevent the growth of certain bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcal enterotoxins which can cause food poisoning. But in some cases probiotics fail and bacteria can actually secrete toxins, so the product may be hazardous.
Probiotics are generally safe for the vast majority of people. However, in rare cases, they can cause infection especially in people who have a compromised immune system.
A London study reported the first case of a 65-year-old diabetic patient whose liver abscess had been caused by probiotic consumption. Susceptible patients, such as those with compromised immunity, should be advised against excessive consumption of probiotics.
Treatment with probiotics can cause serious infections such as pneumonia in vulnerable people, as well as systemic infections including sepsis and endocarditis.
Probiotic bacteria can carry genes that confer resistance to antibiotics. These antibiotic resistance genes may pass to other bacteria found in the food chain and gastrointestinal tract via horizontal gene transfer. The most common antibiotic resistance genes carried by fermented foods are against erythromycin and tetracycline, which are used to treat respiratory infections and some sexually transmitted diseases.
Researchers found resistant probiotic strains in commercially available dietary supplements, which could mean resistance to several common types of antibiotics used to treat serious bacterial infections.
Read more: Antibiotic resistance: researchers have directly proven that bacteria can change shape inside humans to avoid antibiotics
Research has also found six probiotic Bacillus strains found in food products (including kimchi, yogurt and olives) are also resistant to several antibiotics.
And, a recent Malaysian study showed probiotic Lactobacilli bacteria in kefir carry resistance to numerous antibiotics, including ampicillin, penicillin and tetracycline. These are used to treat serious human diseases including bladder infections, pneumonia, gonorrhoea, and meningitis.
Another study also showed lactic acid bacteria found in Turkish dairy products were resistant mainly to vancomycin antibiotic, which is the drug of choice for treatment of MRSA infection.
While there are a wide variety of health benefits that can happen from consuming fermented foods, these may not work for everyone. While most people will be fine eating fermented foods, for some they could potentially cause serious health problems.

Weight-Loss Surgery for Teens Who Cant Lose Weight Any Other Way – The New York Times
Certainly this was no quick fix. She went through a yearlong process of trying supervised weight loss, driving an hour and 15 minutes every month to meet with a physician, a dietitian and a mental health specialist. I would have to take that entire day off school, my mom off work, she said. We had to do this once a month for a year before we could be referred to a bariatric center.
After she had the surgery, at 16, her hypertension and prediabetes got better. She was honest with her college roommates, not wanting them to see the small meals she needed after surgery and think she had an eating disorder. She had to navigate other problematic college food situations, she said, with cookie deliveries and late-night pizza expeditions. But from a weight of around 270 pounds (she is 5 foot 8), she has now stabilized around 190. Im still technically from a B.M.I. category considered overweight, she said. Im comfortable and Im happy with my body. She is serious about fitness and works out four or five times a week.
Perhaps the most sensitive question the policy statement examines is: How young is too young? Most of the studies involve older adolescents, though some international research looked at 12- or even 10-year-old patients. There is no lower age limit in the policy statement because the researchers could not find evidence drawing a firm line to mark a lower age boundary; the decision should rest with a whole team, including the child and the family, the pediatrician and the surgeon.
There are major disparities in access to bariatric surgery. Childhood obesity disproportionately affects children of color and those in low-income populations, Dr. Armstrong said. Those getting access to surgery are almost exclusively middle- and upper-class white adolescents. The biggest barrier is lack of insurance coverage; many private payers will not cover the surgery for those under 18, and almost no public payers will.
Often, childhood obesity is seen as the parents fault, and some worry that bariatric surgery is being offered as a quick fix. Dr. Armstrong noted that in many cases, the parents themselves have struggled with their weight most of their lives and want nothing more than to have their kids not go through this. She added, Most of them have tried everything they were capable of doing to help their children lose weight.
The impulse to keep trying with diet, nutrition and behavioral modifications runs deep in pediatrics, but the evidence suggests that if an adolescent needs bariatric surgery, its better not to wait too long, Dr. Armstrong said. Watchful waiting for extended periods of time can actually lead to less effective surgery and surgery with more complications.
Weight loss surgery generally reduces B.M.I. by about 10, so if the patient is a 16-year-old with a B.M.I. of 45 (anything over 35 generally meets the criteria for severe obesity), the B.M.I. going into adulthood after surgery is likely to be around 35 still obese, but much less severe. On the other hand, if the same child waits until the age of 19, when the B.M.I. may have gone up to 55 you can do the math.

How to lose weight and build abs like this guy who did it in less than a years time to get in shape – GQ India – What a man’s got to do
While theres no magic secret or a quick hack to lose weight, a streamlined weight loss plan that takes into account both your diet and workouts will help you get shredded in the most sustainable manner. 30-year-old Vicky Arlekar tells us that to adopt a similar approach he crafted a 300-day challenge for himselfthe objective of which was to get ripped in 300 days without harming his physical and mental well-being.
In December 2018, I decided to wear a suit that Id gotten stitched in May 2018. But as I was trying it on, I realised that I couldnt even get my arms and legs inside it properly. In a span of just 7 months, I had gained a lot of weight with no sight of losing it anytime soon, given the lifestyle I was following.
But as the new year rolled in, I decided that this will be the year that I get ripped and also maintain my weight properly!"
"Consequently, I devised a 300-day challenge/weight loss plan for myself to trim down from 97.40 kgs to 85.49 kgs and also build muscle.
My 300-day challenge was divided into three phases and each one of these phases included me trying a new workout approach and diet.
The first phase of my 3-part weight loss plan began with me just limiting my food intake and completely shunning junk food from my diet. I also started indulging in cardio, twice a week, and lifting weights. By just following these methods, I was able to lose 6-8 kgs weight in the first three months.
For the next phase, I started lifting heavy and also indulging in daily compound exercises. I included a lot of protein in my diet and started taking a basic Whey supplements to compensate for any protein deficiency. This helped me build a lot of muscle. I was eating 4 meals a day and by the end of this phase weighed 92 kgs.
This was my fat burning phase. During Phase 3, I alternated between cardio and weights everyday. Id also do skipping, every alternate day. For the first 3 months, I followed the same diet as I did during Phase 2 but for the last 30 days of this phase, I started following the 16:8 intermittent fasting diet eating pattern.
Intermittent Fasting (IF) is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating. It doesnt specify which foods you can or cannot eat. It only focuses on when you should eat them.
There are many IF plans and patterns that you can follow, but the most effective one, according to studies is the 16:8 IF diet. The 16:8 IF diet entails one to observe a 16-hour fasting period, followed by an 8-hour eating window.
You can commence a 16-hour fast at 10:00 pm in the night, after you eat your last meal of the day and go to sleep thats 7-8 hours gone right there. You can break the 16-hour fast at 2:00 pm with your lunch and eat small meals till 10:00 pm this makes up the 8-hour eating window. Alternatively, you can also begin your fast at 8 pm and break it at 12 pm, the next day.
During the months I wasnt following the 16:8 IF diet plan, this is the diet that I stuck to:
Breakfast: A glass of milk
Mid-day: A protein shake
Lunch: Vegetables with 3 boiled eggs
Evening snacks: Fruits
Dinner: Vegetables with chicken
"By the end of 300 days, I had lost 12 kgs and built healthy muscles.
To maintain my new weight I still follow the 16:8 IF plan, but only for 5 days/week.
Weight loss is all about mastering the basicseating healthy, sleeping well and exercising regularly. Also, remember that you cannot lose weight overnight just like how you didnt gain it overnight.

One Simple Action Will Propel You To Better Health – Thrive Global
We all have a goal related to bettering our physical and/or mental health. Eat cleaner, sleep better, exercise more, take a break during the day, be more present with friends/family theres always something we can do to create a healthier situation for ourselves.
So why is it that we get excited about these goals, but then shut down when the time arrives to actually do something?
No time. No money. No desire. Too much effort. I am too busy.
I hear ya. I was right there with you. I was a senior executive at a consulting company managing a global workforce. I had all the excuses, but my favorite one: I was just too busy.
Then came THE MOMENT. You know the one a moment in time where all of a sudden, you know you have to do something. In my case that moment was a weigh-in at the doctor.
That scale told me it was time to lose some weight.
I knew how to lose weight. Eat better and exercise more. Got it. I went home and committed to tracking all of my food and going to the gym four times every week.
That routine lasted one full week. It was too hard. I had bitten off more than I could chew (literally and figuratively).
I needed health to be a habit where my food choices and my exercise commitment felt so normal to me they became part of my daily routine without batting an eyelash.
So I did what I hate to do I decided to start small.Really small.Really really small.
I figured that doing something, no matter how small the effort, would be better than doing nothing at all.
I had recently read an article about how drinking more water would help you lose weight, gain energy and heighten your strategic thinking capabilities.
All of those benefits from one glass of water in the morning. Yes please!
So every night before I went to bed, I poured myself a tall glass of water. I put that glass of water on my bedside table. In the morning when I woke up, I drank that full glass of water before I left the bedroom to start my day.
Taking this action in the morning, before I started my day and as part of my regular morning routine, made it easy. So easy, I couldnt fail.
And I saw benefits immediately. Weight loss, more energy, and the ability to speak coherently on a 6am conference call!
I started with drinking a glass of water. Once this became my normal, I added a 30 day squat challenge to my morning routine.
And in 30 days, exercising in the morning became my normal.
See how this works?
The absolute best way to create a healthy habit is to choose an action so small you cannot fail, then repeat this action every day for at least 32 days.
In the work I do as a Thrive Facilitator, this idea is called a Micro-Step. At the end of each session I facilitate, participants pick one micro-step and commit to doing this micro-step every day for 32 days.
Like drinking a glass of water every morning. Or taking a stretch break once/day. Or maybe meditating for five minutes every day.
Whatever your area of need, you can easily find a micro-step to help move you in the right direction.
Drinking a glass of water every day has been the foundation for all the healthy habits I have today. But Im not done! Every month I commit to another micro-step because they keep propelling me in the direction of my goals.
Whether you need to build a healthy foundation or build on your good habits, micro-steps will get you where you want to go.
So I ask you: What is one micro-step you can start today?

Brain expert’s diet tip which she claims will stop you craving treats forever – Mirror Online
Pretty much all of us have made an effort to lose weight or eat healthier at some point or another, but it very rarely lasts as long as we would have liked.
Those delicious treats or easy takeaways always seem to win, defeating out battle against the cravings and ruining our diet completely.
But according to neuroscientist Susan Peirce Thompson the reason you edge back towards your old favourites isn't really your fault, and it's actually all to do with our brains.
Writing for the Mail , she explains that our brains haven't caught up enough to help us process modern food that is filled with sugar and flour.
When we have too much of these things insulin in our bodies rises, blocking leptin - a hormone that tells our brain we've had enough to eat. This means we will keep eating and eating, which isn't good news for the diet.
She claims that the sugary foods also flood our brains with dopamine, and trying to reduce it makes us crave more of it to get that same 'hit'.
Susan believes the key to overcoming this is to get rid of the foods that 'handicap' our brains by following four rules which she calls Bright Lines.
They are...
Susan considers this the most important of her four rules, writing: "Only by taking sugar our of the equation can the brain and body heal".
This means all sugar, including honey and sweeteners.
The same as sugar, Susan describes flour as a "sneaky seductress".
When you have a routine when it comes to eating, it takes the burden off your willpower as you know when the next meal is coming.
She recommends weighing all your food before you eat it so you know exactly what you're putting into your body.
