Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge has kicked off the new year with a new cooking and fitness show.
On his BBC Two series Lose Weight and Get fit with Tom Kerridge, Tom has the mission to help 11 volunteers achieve their fitness goals with diet and training.
Episode 5 (Wednesday, February 12th) saw Tom making a vegetarian version of the nations favourite snack scotch eggs.
Heres a step-by-step tutorial on how to make Tom Kerridges vegetarian scotch eggs.

First things first, you will need six eggs.
For the coating, you will need 1 tin of chickpeas, 1 finely sliced shallot, 3 cloves of garlic, 1 green chilli, and two courgettes. You will also need 1 tbsp of turmeric, cumin and coriander.
For the crispy crust, you will need a mixture of 1 cup of onion powder and 1 cup of breadcrumbs.
Step 1: Boil the eggs for 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
Step 2: Next, fry the chopped onion, garlic, ginger and chilli. Add 1 tablespoon of each of the dried spices cumin, coriander and turmeric.
Step 3: After 4 minutes and 30 seconds, get the eggs out and put them into ice water.
Step 4: Then, add 2 grated courgettes to the spicy onion mixture.
Step 5: Put the drained chickpeas in a food processor and blend them. Add the vegetable mix to them, and blend them further. Place the mixture in a bowl and divide into six slices.

Step 6: Now, put a cling film on your chopping board. Take one of the six slices and form it into a flat piece. Place the egg on top and gently fold the vegetable coating around the egg.
Step 7: Use the cling film to shape the coating around the egg.

Step 8: For the crispy crust, mix the dried onion powder and breadcrumbs. Whisk two eggs in a separate bowl.
Step 9: One by one, roll each ball on the egg mixture first and then in the breadcrumb mix.
Step 10: Finally, spray oil on each scotch egg and bake them for 10-12 minutes at 220 degrees or gas mark 7.

Most recently, she was seen posing with Polish TV host Kinga Rusin at Beyonc and Jay-Z'sOscars party, turning heads in the process, although Rusin has since deleted her post after all of the attention it garnered.She hasn't been too active on social media recentlybut Adele sightings like these just keep happening.
In an Instagram post that Adele shared at Drake's birthday party in October 2019 at a time when people couldn't stop talking about her transformation she wrote, "I used to cry by now I sweat." Yep, it's a cheeky comment (punctuated by a laughing emoji, at that), but it still soundslike Adele has been channelling her emotions into working out instead of anything else.
In a post to celebrate turning 31 last May, Adele shared thatin the year, she wanted to be committed to making a lot of changes and learning to love herself.
"Ive changed drastically in the last couple years and Im still changing and thats okay. 31 is going to be a big ol year and Im going to spend it all on myself. For the first time in a decade Im ready to feel the world around me and look up for once," she wrote. "Be kind to yourself people were only human, go slow, put your phone down and laugh out loud at every opportunity. Learning to REALLY truly love yourself is it, and Ive only just realized that that is more than enough. Ill learn to love you lot eventually."

According to a sourceclose to the singer, Adele's weight loss came as a result of her goal to be the healthiest mom she could be to her son, Angelo.
Its easy to just focus on her physical transformation, but this is really about something bigger, the source said. She got to the point where she didnt feel great. She knew she had to change somethingbecause she wants to be the healthiest mom possible. Her whole focus during the weight loss journey has really how been all about how she can be healthier and how can she treat her body better. It was never about losing weight. Her weight loss happened because she has cut down drinking and is eating more real food. But she now loves her physical transformation, too. She is more confident, dresses differently and she just seems happier overall.
The same insider says that not only has changing her diet been essential to Adele seeing results, but so has her workout regimen. Adele has reportedly been using a combination of cross-training and full body Pilates to whip herself into shape, so it definitely sounds like she's been putting a lot of work in to make this glow-up happen.
Another source says that Adele has been following the Sirtfood Diet, which is well known in the UK. It includes limiting caloric intake to 1,000 calories a day in the beginning, though that number eventually goes up. On the program, Adele can eat foods that include "sirtuins," like dark chocolate, red wine, and green juices.
Regardless of how Adele has tackled weight loss, it's clear that she's been working hard and that work is paying off. Here's hoping she'll share more about her inspirational transformation soon.

There are a lot of things to consider when you're working out, especially if your goal is weight loss. There isn't one perfect exercise, workout, or diet that will guarantee weight loss, but generally speaking, experts have found that incorporating strength training and cardio into your workout routine (along with implementing a nutritional plan tailored to your needs) can help.
"For weight loss, you need 250 minutes [per week], or more, of physical activity in at least the moderate-intensity category in order to show appreciable weight loss," Heather Milton, MS, RCEP, CSCS, an exercise physiologist clinical specialist at NYU Langone's Sports Performance Center, told POPSUGAR. We'd be remiss if we didn't state that factors such as the amount of sleep you get, your genetics, and other variables, like stress, also play a critical role in weight loss.
If you're going from sedentary to physically active, "You're going to see changes, especially if you pair it with diet," Heather explained. As your body acclimates to exercise, the goal is to increase the amount of time you're physically active to a minimum of 250 or 300 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise (for example, walking at a brisk pace, hiking, biking, dancing, aerobics, and weight training) per week, Heather continued. You may be tempted to hit the gym for long durations of time, but Heather advises against trying to reach this time goal in one or two sessions. Instead, she recommends splitting it up throughout the week.
It's often assumed that doing more aerobic exercise, such as running, can help with weight loss. And although cardio can help you lose weight, Heather said, "There's more literature coming out for weight loss, especially if you pair it with diet, that if you can consistently do three days per week of resistance training, whole-body resistance training, that can have a very good effect for helping to lose weight because you're improving your metabolism at the same time you're burning fat." Resistance training is beneficial because it allows you to preserve your muscle mass while you're losing fat, which means your metabolism isn't affected, Heather explained.

Losing weight is a top wellness goal for half of the U.S. adult population reports The NPD Group. Some wishing to lose weight will not follow a diet plan but instead carefully choose the foods they eat and about 25% of consumers will follow a diet plan. The top diets are "My own," keto, and intermittent fasting.
CHICAGO, Feb. 11, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ --Even though the New Year is a month old and some resolutions may have fallen to the wayside, losing weight is still a top goal for half of this country's adult population, reports The NPD Group. Some of these consumers will not follow a diet plan but instead work to lose weight by choosing foods and beverage and about 25% of consumers will follow a diet plan. The top three diet plans are "my own" diet, which can be a range of personalized dieting behaviors, the ketogenic or keto diet, which is a very low-carb, high-fat diet, and Intermittent Fasting (IF), which is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating, according to NPD's Health Aspirations and Behavioral Tracker Service.
Instead of adhering to a formalized diet or nutrition plan, 16% of consumers say that they are following "my own" diet, which might include eating more healthful foods and beverages, limiting the amount of food eaten, and other changes in eating behaviors. The keto diet, which began in the 1920s as a treatment for pediatric epilepsy and became popular as a weight loss, muscle building diet several years ago, is followed by 5% of U.S. adults. Another 4% of adults follow Intermittent Fasting, the popularity of which has been fueled by medical studies showing the effectiveness of this diet in improving overall health, books, and celebrity endorsements. The remaining percentages of consumers who follow a diet plan to lose weight is fragmented across a host of other diet programs, reports NPD.
"From the standpoint of food manufacturers and foodservice operators, dieting and trying to lose weight are big consumer behaviors," says Darren Seifer, NPD food and beverage industry analyst. "The opportunity is to help consumers follow through on their goals by positioning products and menu items to a specific diet, like keto-friendly, or innovate on new products that deliver on what consumers are looking for in terms of dieting or losing weight."

While many people recognize Maye Musk as the oldest model to become the face of CoverGirl or as the mother of Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk, she also had a successful career as a registered dietitian for 45 years and still keeps up her credentials.
Though some of her son Elon's Silicon Valley contemporaries, like Twitter and Square CEO Jack Dorsey, are fans of internet-famous diets like intermittent fasting, gluten-free diets and the ketogenic diet, Maye Musk is not sold: "I never did the fad diets, I have to stick to science," Musk tells CNBC Make It.

Intermittent fasting, an eating pattern that entails alternating between periods of fasting and eating, has become mega-popular among high-profile figures from Dorsey, who says it makes him more productive, to actress Jennifer Aniston. But while studies on mice suggest that intermittent fasting could help with weight loss, help slow the effects of aging, improve cognition and possibly protect the brain against neurodegenerative diseases, overall, experts agree that there needs to be more research done on humans to determine whether it's safe and maintainable.
As for the ketogenic diet, it is a high-fat, extremely low carbohydrate diet that was originally intended to treat epilepsy. The point of this diet is to put your body into a state of "ketosis," which means that you're burning fat instead of carbs for energy. Some mice studies suggest that a low-carb diet could improve brain function, and many people use the "keto" diet to lose weight. However given how restrictive it is, it can be challenging to follow and could lead to nutritional deficiencies.
You have to think "...is it sustainable? Is it foods you like? And are you fun to be around?" Musk says of restrictive diets.
Gluten-free diets have been popular but are really only a medical necessity for people with Celiac disease.
"I've had to teach myself in social situations not to talk about anything relating to diet because everybody has their own theory," Musk says.
But there are a few healthy diets Musk approves of, including the Mediterranean diet, which emphasizes vegetables, whole grains, legumes and olive oil; the DASH diet, a low sodium diet aimed at lowering blood pressure; and the flexitarian diet, a mostly plant-based diet.
Musk's own diet is closest to the flexitarian diet: Musk says she typically has high-fiber cereal and 1% milk for breakfast. Then she'll have a snack of yogurt and fruit, and a salad and whole wheat bread, or sushi for lunch. Her afternoon snack is a latte and fruit, and for dinner, she likes to "keep my evenings very light" with a bean soup, or cooked vegetables with protein and a starch like potatoes, rice or whole wheat bread.
"Healthy eating is easy with a knowledge, but avoiding poor eating is hard," Musk says. She loves sweet foods, such as chocolates and cookies, but says that she doesn't like to keep them in her home "because I will finish them off."
The best thing people can do to improve their diet is pretty simple, Musk says. "You have to really use common sense and enjoy the foods you eat, and you have to be aware," she says.

1. Running was the first step. No other workout can be compared to running!
2. I started avoiding processed foods as much as possible. Chips, fried and baked food, juices with preservatives, tea with sugaranything that contains processed sugar or preservatives

5. Swimming also became a part of my schedule. Almost 3 times a week, Id swim a distance between 500 m - 1km.
6. I started working on my core too with the help of basic exercises such as push ups, sit ups, pull ups and planks.
7. Most importantly, I started drinking a lot of water and also eating healthier. Let me break down my weight loss diet plan for you below.
Breakfast: 4 small idlis or 4 small uthappas or upma or 3 paranthas with a cup tea without sugar.
Mid-day: A cup of black coffee
Lunch: A small bowl of rice, dal, soup, a lot of salad and vegetables
Evening snack: 1-2 biscuits
Dinner: Oats with milk or 2 chapatis with cooked vegetables
Apart from following this diet plan, I also ate a handful of nuts: walnuts, raisins, cashews and almonds daily and drank a lot of water throughout the day.

1. It will take time. Just relax and enjoy the process.
2. Do not weigh yourself everyday and get disappointed if you are not losing any pounds. Trust me, you will lose weight. It just takes time. It is like investing!

4. Stay disciplined.
5. Avoid alcohol.
6. Drink a lot of water. It helps a lot.
7. Sleep is very essential. It also helps in burning calories.
8. Exercise is a must just like the way you brush, bathe and eat. Human body is made to exercise but we are ignoring it. In fact, do not focus on losing weight, focus on involving yourself in exercise daily and slowly push your limits.

True weight loss for obese individuals is not flashy, glamorous or fit for reality television
The Biggest Loser is a weight-loss competition that originally aired on NBC in 2004. The series followed overweight to obese individuals as they competed to lose the highest amount of body weight relative to their initial size.
Although the series ran for 17 seasons, it was highly criticized for the way trainers treated the contestants and for the unrealistic weight loss methods it promoted. Contestants would exercise for numerous hours each day and would eat meticulously planned meals that were not always sufficient to restore their energy balances.
A longitudinal study in an obesity research journal followed 14 former contestants over six years. It showed that the contestants significantly damaged their metabolism after losing weight so rapidly, and they had all regained the weight.
Since the series ended in 2016, there have been radical shifts in the way society views body image and weight loss. From the rise of the Health at Every Size movement to a more general acceptance of different body types in the media, it would seem that a show like The Biggest Loser would never be popular in todays political and social climate.
The USA Network, however, decided to reboot the series, and the first episode aired on Jan. 28. The series made an effort to combat criticisms of the original, such as re-casting hosts and offering an extensive aftercare package to contestants who were eliminated, including a gym membership, a nutritionist and guidance towards a support group.
The goal of the series was rebranded as competing not only to lose weight, but [to] also improve their overall well-being, according to the USA Network.
Many, however, are not satisfied with this new take. The series has been criticized by Dr. Sandra Aamodt, neuroscientist and author of Why Diets Make Us Fat.
The Biggest Loser basically glamorizes dieting, which I consider to be quite dangerous, Aamodt said. And rebranding weight loss as wellness is a big trend.
Dr. Jennifer Kern was a contestant in the third season of the original series. She then returned to work as a medical consultant for the following two seasons.
I think it at least showed other people who are struggling with obesity that all is not lost, that they can successfully lose weight even if they have 150 pounds to lose, Kern told Insider.
She believes, however, that the format of the series as a whole is problematic. She openly criticizes fallacies the show perpetuates about massive weight-loss. In fact, she co-wrote the longitudinal study showing that re-gaining the weight for former contestants was almost inevitable.
To make a good TV show, theyre going to want to show rapid change, Kern said.
And there lies the fundamental issue with the series: True weight loss for obese and morbidly obese individuals is not flashy, glamorous or fit for reality television. While showing intense workouts and fitness challenges may make for good entertainment, it is, at best, inefficient and, at worst, dangerous for contestants trying to make better lives for themselves.
Sustained weight loss, especially for obese individuals, should include a strong focus on nutrition and include low impact excercises like walking or swimming. Yet The Biggest Loser forces contestants to perform box jumps and run miles in the first few weeks of the competition.
Based on the lack of significant changes this reboot made, it is hard to believe the series will regain the popularity it had in the early 2000s. Even worse, the contestants will probably suffer the fate of regaining the weight they lost during the competition. While the effort of rebranding the series could have been worthwhile, the execution will probably do more damage than good to those it is setting out to help.

Metabolism is the set of chemical reactions in your body that keeps you functioning well, including the processes that convert what you eat and drink into energy. You might think of metabolism in relation to body weight only, but your metabolism is also responsible for growth, reproduction and elimination of waste products. It regulates body temperature and transports substances into and out of your cells.
Metabolism encompasses the energy required to sustain all bodily functions, spanning from the upkeep of each single cellular unit all the way through to that required for complex human thought, Smith says. An individuals metabolism is influenced by genetics, lifestyle and macro and micronutrients that are consumed daily.
Digesting, absorbing and processing foods requires energy. The body burns calories to break down food youve eaten, and it converts those calories to heat in a process called thermogenesis.
This process contributes a small percentage of your energy expenditure, but its a marginal contribution, explains Audra Wilson, RD, LD, a bariatric dietitian at the Northwestern Medicine Metabolic Health and Surgical Weight Loss Center at Delnor Hospital.
It takes slightly more energy, and burns a bit more calories, to break down protein than to break down carbohydrates and fat. Protein has other benefits for dieters too. Because protein increases feelings of satiety or fullness and suppresses the appetite-stimulating hormone ghrelin, it squelches the desire to overeat.
Shifting calorie consumption to include more protein and less carbohydrates and fat may indeed increase metabolic rate, Smith says.
The type of fat may matter, too. When consuming fats, those higher in a type of fat called medium chain fatty acids like coconut and palm oil may be associated with a very small increase in metabolism, she adds.
Some plant compounds may provide a slight boost in metabolic rate. Red chili peppers contain capsaicinoids pungent chemical compounds that have the potential to slightly increase energy expenditure. However, the downside is that these compounds arent tolerated very easily, and some individuals may not be able to handle the spiciness.
Some have suggested that spicy foods boost metabolism via capsaicin, Smith says. While the data on this are conflicting, adding heat to food does appear to decrease total caloric intake during that meal, so it may be beneficial for weight loss overall.
Green tea and coffee contain caffeine, which is a central nervous system stimulant that can slightly boost metabolism. Green tea contains catechins, which researchers believe to be responsible for an increase in thermogenesis; you burn more calories after drinking it.
Caffeine and some types of teas may have a moderate impact on metabolism primarily through increasing heart rate and alertness, Smith says. In particular, green tea has been shown to impart a mild increase in energy metabolism.
Though some substances may make a mild difference in boosting metabolism, they will not provide long-lasting effects, Wilson says.
While some foods that contain caffeine or lots of spice may increase metabolism for a few seconds, the effect is so small that it would not significantly impact total energy expenditure or have any effect on weight loss, she explains.
Water is essential for metabolism. Even mild dehydration can make your metabolism sluggish, so increasing your water intake may help with weight loss. Participants in a study who increased their water intake by 1.5 liters a day over eight weeks showed a decrease in weight and body mass index. The study was published in 2013 in the Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research.
Water consumption may temporarily increase metabolic rate, though my assumption is this is more likely just a normal reaction to putting liquid into your digestive tract, Smith explains.
The temperature of the water may make a difference. Drinking cold water just like shivering in a cold climate can result in minor increases in energy expenditure, according to a 2019 study in The Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness.
Exercise is a natural metabolic booster, especially high-intensity interval training, as well as strength-training that builds muscle mass.
Building muscle can have a significant impact on resting metabolic rate, Wilson says. In other words, the more muscle mass you have on your body, the more calories you will burn at rest.
You dont need to go to the gym to move. Daily living activities cleaning, running errands and lifting laundry, for example can help boost metabolism.
All of that physical activity you do throughout the day that you would not necessarily consider formal exercise creates non-exercise activity thermogenesis or NEAT, Smith says.
Even vacuuming, chasing toddlers, fidgeting at your desk and tapping your toes while waiting in line can help. Small lifestyle changes, such as using a standing desk, parking farther away from the store, standing on the train or stretching during commercial breaks adds up to increased energy consumption every day.
The bottom line: Theres no miracle way to boost metabolism. The tried and true metabolic boosters include regular daily activity, balanced meals and proper hydration. But try spicing it up a little. Coffee and green tea cant hurt, either.

Have you identified why you want to lose weight? – Asian Image
During the start of the year, many want to make changes and get healthier.
A common mistake I see some people make is to dive straight into a weight loss program without having given much thought to their 'why'.
This means they start the year motivated and full of enthusiasm, making some significant changes to their diet, like reducing or eliminating sugar or fried foods.
Others may have a New Years resolution to get fitter and sign up for a gym membership.
But after a few months of doing it, the determination begins to decrease and there are many reasons I see this happening including:
Feeling deprived as one still craves their favourite foods which include desserts, chocolate, mithai, crisps, pakoras, etc Being restricted as one cannot socialise and eat out Having to cook separate meals as one cannot eat traditional foods Not enjoying diet foods which taste bland and boring Not seeing the results expected Dont have much time

Identify your 'why'
I understand where you are, as this is what my clients used to struggle with, but once they identified their why, they were not giving up on themselves.
If your why is only weight loss you know this cannot happen overnight, so you should have other long and short-term goals to motivate you. Some suggestions are:
- To improve health markers for blood pressure, cholesterol and lower risk of diabetes- To look and feel good about yourself- To wear your clothes comfortably and regain your confidence- Increase in energy levels to keep up with your children after work- To have the stamina to walk briskly or go up the stairs without getting out of breath
So, this coming year, dont have your why just to look good for a wedding or birthday party but also include whys that motivate you to continue in the long term.
