Begin the movement by holding the weights above your hips. From there, engage in single-leg hip thrusts by lifting the weight of your body with just one leg at a time. At the same time, keep your other leg up and off the ground. After you complete 20 hip thrusts with each leg, bring both legs to the floor, and remain in the hip thrust position for 30 seconds. "This will target your glutes like crazy," James says.

When it comes to weighted single-leg raises, James says they target the gluteus minimus, which is a smaller muscle in your backside area that sits right below the gluteus medius muscle. By toning both muscles, you should see progress in your saddlebag area.
To perform the exercise, James explains, "Hold a small weight on the side of your leg. [Then,] raise your leg to the side in a controlled motion." Keep that going until you complete your reps. Aim for 15 reps per leg.

Keep your small set of weights around for this exercise which will give your quads a good workout. At the same time, weighted squats will target your glutes and help you burn saddlebag fatespecially since this version includes a twist.
Begin the movement with the weights close to your body. Perform a normal squat. The twist comes in between squats, which is when you'll want to "pause to cross one leg behind the other," James says. Aim to do 10 reps.

And as well as being fun, taking part in a a "high energy" combat or dance session can burn between 500-700 calories per hour, according to the expert.
But these dance and combat based workouts don't have to be incredibly intense if you don't want them to be, and can be made "accessible" to all fitness levels.
"It's about going at your pace, and that's why these workouts are good, because they offer modifications."

Factors such as intensity and tempo can be changed depending on the individual, for those who want an extra challenge can add some hand weights to their exercises.
So what are the benefits of dance and combat workouts for women going through menopause?
Aside from melting away up to 700 calories per session, Faye listed some "key" benefits as improving your cardiovascular fitness, coordination, and memory.
"It's also a good endurance workout."
And at a time where women can experience a rollercoaster of emotions, another benefit is that these exercises are sure to "release those feel good hormones, endorphins".
"You know you'll leave feeling good after your workout."
Combat classes in particular are a great "stress-buster", which is particularly beneficial as cortisol (the stress hormone) can increase in perimenopausal women.
Some of the main moves Faye focuses on in combat classes include punch strikes such as jabs, cross, hooks and uppercuts.
It is fantastic for engaging the upper body and building muscle.
As for dance, Faye likes "hip moves that make you feel a bit sassy".
Dance also looks at footwork, be it jumps or heel digs.
"I would say a mixture of high impact moves and slow controlled moves using the hips.
"The higher impact modes will make you feel fierce."

Four nutrition and diet myths we all need to stop believing – Irish Examiner
If youve ever found yourself Googling phrases like foods to make me lose weight or how to lose weight fast, you may have stumbled across some questionable tips out there.
When it comes to food and nutrition especially in the context of weight loss there are lots of weird diets that promise specific results if you follow certain rules. However, these dramatic dietary claims can have a seriously negative impact on both your mental and physical wellbeing, and might actually mean youre missing out on crucial nutrition.
We asked nutrition experts to talk us through four of the most common diet claims
1. No carbs after 6pm
Maybe your mum or grandma told you something along these lines that your body will not burn carbs consumed in the evening and will instead convert that sugar directly into fat, so best to avoid them post-6pm. Sounds legitimate, right? Actually, its not that simple.
According to UK dietician Lola Biggs, its more about what you are eating, and how much of it, rather than when you are eating it. Theres nothing wrong with eating healthy carbs after 6pm, if you choose foods such as nuts, seeds, legumes, vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.
Whether or not you eat carbs in the evening, the focus is more on portion size and making sure you are burning more calories than you eat daily, Biggs adds.
That said, some experts do think eating within a timeframe or window can be beneficial (but this isnt the same as strictly saying you must ban carbs in the evening!), and eating too close to bedtime might not be the best idea for various reasons.
UK nutritionist Pauline Cox, explains that eating within an eight-hour window gives your body the chance to lower blood glucose levels outside of that eight-hour window, lowering insulin and increasing glucagon levels, triggering fat-burning.
Eating late at night, increases often an already-extended window of eating, leaving little time for blood sugar levels to drop and trigger fat-burning. The high blood sugars of late-night eating can also disturb sleep, leading to disruption of hunger hormones the following day, Cox adds.
2. Gluten-free food aids weight loss
You may have noticed the rise in gluten-free options and people opting for a no-gluten diet. This is great news for anybody with Coeliac disease or gluten sensitivity, who need to steer clear of gluten for health reasons.
Where it can get muddled, though, is when people imply gluten-free options are just better than their gluten-packed counterparts and that gluten-free diets aid weight loss.
Getting enough heart-healthy wholegrains in your diet is important, as they can lower cholesterol levels and are good sources of key vitamins and minerals such as iron, magnesium, and B vitamins, says Biggs.
3. Full-fat is bad for you
Have you been attracted to fat-free labels on cheese or yoghurts at the supermarket, thinking this means theyre healthier, and an easy way to eat nice food but still lose weight? Well, consuming fat does not necessarily make you fat. And fat-free does not necessarily mean something is healthier.
Too much fat in your diet the saturated fats kind can be bad for you, but there are some full-fat foods that can actually be good for you, says Biggs. Low-fat versions can often be stripped of natural ingredients and instead stuffed with artificial sweeteners, flavouring and sugars to improve the taste.
4. Certain foods make you burn fat
Maybe youve been chugging apple cider vinegar, eating grapefruit early in the morning, or cooking everything in cayenne pepper because youve heard these things will make you burn fat. Again, its not that black and white.
Certain foods or ingredients will not automatically make you thinner, and you may find yourself eating some strange things if you think this is the answer.
According to nutritionist Melissa Snover, it is more important to focus on feeling full and satisfied, and getting a good range of vitamins.
Nutritious foods high in protein and good fats are beneficial for offsetting hunger over long periods, which is an important tool for weight loss, as it lowers your overall food intake, says Snover.
If you want to ensure youre eating a healthy diet, which helps you maintain a healthy weight, making sure youre getting a good balance and variety of foods and nutrients is a wise way to go.

'Lefty' cut a rather portly figure in the mid-2000s - as he has personally acknowledged - but has cleaned up his diet with remarkable results.
After piling on a few too many pounds, the American has put considerable effort into streamlining his physique in recent years.
A diagnosis for psoriatic arthritis in 2010 is partly credited with alerting Mickelson of his need to change.
And he is now fully invested in a six-day fasting routine, during which he subsists on only water and a special coffee blend.
The mixture features Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee, almond milk, cinnamon and coconut MCT oil.
Mickelson has become a huge advocate for 'Coffee For Wellness', which he talks up regularly on social media, after teaming up with performance consultant Dave Phillips.
Despite being at the top of his game in the mid-2000s, the golfer began to feel his body and his performances decline.
He previously stated: "I wasnt playing well and I wasnt feeling good about myself.

"I wasnt recovering as fast as I wanted to after the rounds and I was feeling tired and not focused towards the end of the round.
"I felt that the first step in getting that back was getting in better shape getting lighter, and what Ive noticed is that Ive recovered faster."
But the diet plan is not exclusively a weight loss technique, with Mickelson feeling the overwhelming 'wellness' benefits too.
He remarked in 2019: "I didn't fast to lose weight. I fasted to heal."
Mickelson is looking as good as he ever has out on course and he has acknowledged that such a change was vital if he was ever going to recover his best form.
And the results also showed as he stormed to victory at Kiawah Island.
Mickelson was named in the field for the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills later this month.
He is scheduled to defend his trophy despite a year of controversy around his support for a rival Saudi Arabian-backed league.

In one Twitter video endorsing the plan last year, Mickelson said: "I havent felt good about myself and the way Ive been playing, and so I havent done anything or wanted to be in public.
"The last 10 days Ive done what I call a hard reset a change to try to make things better.
"I dont know if its going to help me play better or not, but Im willing to do whatever it takes to try to get my best back."
Also in 2019, he noted: "Im going to continue to make it a lifestyle change.
Fasting, if you look at it, its a hard reset, but the body gets rid of the bad stuff and covets the good stuff.
"Im going to continue to eat better, eat less, work out more, just stay committed to it.
"It wont be as drastic or quick, but I would anticipate over the next one to two years I would continue to tick down a little bit [in weight]."
Performance consultant Phillips has described the fasting routine as fairly common among athletes.
He said: "Its not a drastic as everybody thinks it is.
"In the performance space, there are a lot of athletes that do this kind of thing.
"Fasting, if you look at it, its a hard reset, but the body gets rid of the bad stuff and covets the good stuff.
"The body goes into flight or fight. Sometimes you need to do that."

Lisa Richards, a nutritionist and author of the Candida Diet explains, "Longevity is highly connected to diet and lifestyle. Protein is essential to life. It is one of the three macronutrients that fuel the human body providing energy, muscle building, and much more. When it comes to protein, animals are not the only source that should be considered. Many plant-based foods provide protein that can meet the complete amino acid needs of the body, some individual and some through proper pairing. Plant-based protein sources are superior to most animal-based sources based primarily on their fat content. Animal proteins are typically high in saturated fat, excluding most fish, which is detrimental to heart health. Plant-based protein combinations that contain all nine essential amino acids are known as complete proteins. Some common complete protein combinations include whole grain brown rice and black beans, whole wheat bread and peanut butter, pasta and peas, chickpeas and tahini (which are in hummus). Quinoa and soy are both plant-based complete proteins on their own. Alternate day fasting requires the dieter to fast one day and eat / drink the next. Twenty-four hour fasts are done once or twice a week, rather than alternate days like the previous. For periodic fasting the individual will fast multiple days, three or less, once a month. Dry fasting is said to have weight loss and immune support benefits. Weight loss is attributed to the decrease in food while the immune benefits are from specific cellular processes that occur. Damaged cells are more easily removed from the body during this time as the digestive tract can focus on this process alone and the immune system is essentially reset."
Roxana Ehsani, MS, RD, CSSD, LDN, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and National MediaSpokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics shares,"Red meat and processed meats like sausage, bacon, deli meats, are high in saturated fat, which is pro-inflammatory, and can cause plaque buildup, which increases risk for both heart and neurodegenerative diseases. Processed meats also contain high amounts of sodium, which negatively impacts our heart health. For longevity, it's best to swap out the red meat for lean cuts of protein and plant protein choices such as beans, lentils, peas, nuts, seeds. They are highly nutritious containing vital vitamins, minerals and are a good source of dietary fiber and protein.. Nuts and seeds also contain heart healthy and anti-inflammatory essential fats. They can be made into bean or lentil or nut burgers, added to salads, stews, chilis,sandwiches, wraps, added to grain dishes, and can be blended up into dips or spreads (such as hummus, almond butter). Research has shown that individuals who eat dark leafy greens daily, had a slower rate of cognitive decline. Eat them raw, in a salad, add greens to smoothies, stuffed them into sandwiches, wraps or try them lightly sauted. The US Dietary Guidelines recommends 1 cups of dark leafy greens per week."

There are many different methods of proper breathing but the easiest include breathing through your nose instead of through your mouth. Another easy method to adopt is "Box Breathing". This is taught to Navy Seals, athletes and others. Inhale through the nose for a count of four seconds, hold the breath for four seconds, exhale through the mouth for four seconds and hold the exhale for four seconds."
Mears says, "As we age, the water content of our bodies decreases. All biological systems depend on water. We have heard for years that we should drink 8 glasses of water a day. This turns out to be just an average because the goal is to replace the amount of water that we lose throughout the day. Optimal amounts will depend on what climate you live in, how active you are, your age, your size, how much you sweat and how frequently you urinate. An easy way to monitor your fluid balance is to check your urine output. The darker the color of your urine, the more dehydrated you are, and the optimal color should be that of light straw."
