Nicole Eggert has made no secret of her battle with her weight over the years and continues to struggle after the birth of her second daughter Keegan 11 months ago.

And although shes working hard to shed the post pregnancy pounds and is not yet back to her Baywatch body days, she is still selling her exercise DVD on her website which shows her as a fraction of her current self.

Eggert released her 21 Day Red Hot Bikini Makeover two years ago but now looks nothing like she does on the cover.

The 40-year-old, who played Summer Quinn in the popular 90s beach series, went jogging around her Studio City neighborhood recently while pushing her tot in her stroller and even stopped in at a convenience store.

Loves fastfoods, but wants to lose weight

I am one of your avid readers. I am just concerned because I am one of those who do really eat at fast foods and yet, I wanted to lose weight. I know there are a lot of fats there. I cant help eating at these fast foods because of my work. I just dont have a lot of time to prepare my own foods. What can you suggest?

I know there are a lot of fats lurking in your burgers, French fries and fried foods. Theyre like a thousand calories and counting. Anyway, this doesnt mean you can no longer eat at your favorite fast foods -- if you wanted to lose weight. But, I do hope you'll follow these suggestions -- by heart!

1. Choose water

Remember that soft drinks, shakes and other flavored juices are full of calories. As a matter of fact, a large soft drink can get you 500 calories in a flash.

Get the skinny on the OMG diet

You've heard of Dukan, scoffed fat on Atkins, fainted from drinking only honey and lemon water and lost friends from the noxious side-effects of the cabbage diet. Now there's a new one, this time designed to inspire jealousy and help you to "get skinnier than all your friends". Six Weeks to OMG comes out in print next month. It has knocked the Dukan Diet off the top of the iTunes diet book chart and a subsidiary of Penguin has bought it for a seven-figure sum.

The book, by British sports scientist and personal trainer Paul Khanna, who goes by the pen name Venice A Fulton, offers controversial tips, such as skip breakfast, take cold baths and drink black coffee. But for short-term weight loss, can the OMG diet really help you shed pounds? Consultant Dietitian and Sports Nutritionist Linia Patel, Dr Christian Jessen, the presenter of the Bafta award-winning Embarrassing Bodies series, and the celebrity fitness trainer Jay Darrell Ingleton explain the science behind Fulton's unconventional theories. I've also given Fulton's tips a try, in a (highly unscientific) experiment, to see how tough they are to stick to.

Skip breakfast

Fulton says skipping breakfast will help to stop you becoming a "fadult" (that's a fat adult to you and me). "Breakfast is for wimps!", he writes. He recommends exercising first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and then only eating once three hours have passed, so that your body is forced to burn stored fat rather than food.

The expert view: "Skipping breakfast is a weight-loss disaster," says Patel. "When you wake up your body produces cortisol, a stress hormone that helps store fat. If you don't eat, you are putting your body under more strain and stress and therefore more likely to gain weight around the middle. Also, you will want sugary and fatty things when you're really hungry, which add to weight gain."

My experience: I skipped breakfast and still had enough energy to run up the stairs on the underground (my "workout"). It didn't affect my concentration and I ate breakfast at 10am. It was easy, but I consumed exactly the same amount that I usually eat, so I doubt it made much impact on my weight.

Three reasons you're not losing weight

There are plenty of reasons why many of us struggle to lose weight, which is partly why we have an obesity crisis on our hands. Part of the problem is that it is often the incidental reasons that sneak into our lifestyles that can quietly add a few stubborn kilos.

And I'm not talking about the stock complaints. Every professional hears them: highway patrol officers must get sick of "I didn't realise I was going that fast", and tax accountants probably have to feign surprise at "I didn't have time to organise my receipts" when a shoebox full of paper is plonked on their desk.

I seem to get "I've tried everything but nothing seems to work", usually when I'm faced with someone who has clearly spent the past few years in a pretty good paddock. (For the record, this is exactly what every contestant tells me on arrival in The Biggest Loser house.)

So, such things aside, here are my top three reasons.

1. YOUR PORTIONS ARE TOO BIG

Here's a little drill. Buy a nice piece of nutritious salmon. Now take it home and weigh it. Salmon comes in at about eight kilojoules a gram, and I'm guessing that: a) your salmon fillet weighs 250 to 300g; and b) you would normally eat that much in one sitting. I recommend about 150g of meat or fish at a sitting. Most of us probably eat close to double that.

2. YOU'RE NOT AN 'INTENTIONAL' EATER

We have a rule in our house that no one is allowed to eat unless they are seated at the table. If we didn't have this rule, I'd be a contestant on The Biggest Loser, not a trainer. Most excess kilojoules are taken in when we're sitting on the couch doing what I call "unintentional" eating. This is where we have a biscuit here and a soft drink there. It all adds up. By contrast, intentional eating is where you: a) think about what you're going to eat; b) buy it; c) prepare it; d) cook it; and e) eat it.

3. YOU'RE GETTING OLDER

I know that's nothing you want to hear, but unfortunately weight management gets trickier from about 27 years old. Our metabolism slows down (and the production of the hormones that help support it), and our ability to burn kilojoules slows with it. Couple this with the fact you probably have more money for food and alcohol, and you're burning your metabolic candle at both ends. If nothing seems to be shifting the kilos, it may be due to an unexpected reason.
