New Delhi: Walking is a great form of exercise to improve your overall health and well-being. It can help you lose weight, prevent or manage certain medical conditions such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Now, a study by Standford researchers has found that walking boosts creative thinking.

According to the research, creativitylevels were higher for individuals walking compared to those sitting. The new study found that a persons creative output raised by an average of 60 per cent when walking.

According to the study co-authored by Marily Oppezzo, a Stanford doctoral graduate in educational psychology, and Daniel Schwartz, a professor at Stanford Graduate School of Education, walking indoors or outdoors improves creativity levels - consistently and significantly. However, the authors noted that the main factor was walking itself and not the environment.

Many people anecdotally claim they do their best thinking when walking. We finally may be taking a step, or two, toward discovering why, Oppezzo and Schwartz wrote in the study published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory and Cognition.

One of the experiments observed that walking indoors on a treadmill in a room or walking outdoors in the fresh air produced the same creativity results - both outdoor and indoor walkings caused twice as many creative responses than sitting.

I thought walking outside would blow everything out of the water, but walking on a treadmill in a small, boring room still had strong results, which surprised me, said Oppezzo, now an adjunct faculty member at Santa Clara University.

However, the researchers noted that walking appeared to have no link to focused thinking, although it had a positive effect on creative thinking.

This isnt to say that every task at work should be done while simultaneously walking, but those that require a fresh perspective or new ideas would benefit from it, Oppezzo added.

The study comprised of four experiments involving 176 college students and other adults who completed their tasks commonly used by researchers to measure creative thinking.

Sitting down too much puts you at an increased risk of several conditions, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, cancer and early death. Walking is a great activity that can help you burn calories and aid weight loss. According to Mayo Clinic, just adding 30 minutes of brisk walking to your daily routine will help you burn about 150 more calories a day - yet, the faster and longer you walk, the more calories youll burn.

James Arg Argent has said his drug addiction was a symptom of an eating order after years battling with his weight.

The former The Only Way Is Essex star - who recently opened up about suffering a near-fatal cocaine overdose in 2019 - has now told how he turned to binging on drugs and junk food to cope with jokes about his weight.

Argent, 32, told The Sun: The core of my addiction stems from my eating disorder. I binge on food if I hate the way I look...

Id feel down so Id start using drugs at 9pm until 6am, not eating a thing. Then Id wake up, feel low and be absolutely starving and I would binge on everything from fizzy drinks, burgers, fast food, crisps, snacks, pizzas, takeaways to the point where I couldnt possibly eat any more to feel better.

Then Id look in the mirror, see Im the biggest Ive ever been, then think, When is a suitable time for a dealer to drop me off.

He has shed five stone and is already feeling better in myself.

He added that now he is clean and sober they are eager to get married and start a family.

Jorge Blanco is a Toronto-based Spanish personal trainer who has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Chris Hemsworth, Drake, Robert Pattinson, and even former royalty, Meghan Markle.

Blanco trained Markle when she was filming Suits in Canada, telling Vanity Fair Spain that he had a great time training with her because she is super sympathetic and also speaks Spanish with an Argentine accent.

And now the celebrity trainer has explained to Insider exactly how he trains his clients and why he favors fight training for losing weight and getting in shape.

As famous as some of Blancos clients are, he said theres no real difference between working with high profile individuals and an average client.

They are all human beings, Blanco told Insider. The only thing that could be slightly different is the crazy schedules.

His former client list reads like the guest list of an incredible Hollywood party, and Blanco feels privileged to work with some of the biggest stars in the world.

To me working with every one of them is an absolute honor, especially with Drake and Chris, he said.

Blanco described Drake as someone who picks things up very fast and is very fun to work with.

As for Hemsworth, Blanco has not only trained him but he is part of the actors workout app, Centr, which Insiders Jacob Sarkisian tried and thought was ideal during lockdown.

Blanco is one of 12 trainers on the app, and described it as such a cool project.

Formerly the Spanish National Kickboxing Champion and a member of the Spanish National and Olympic Boxing Team, Blanco uses this training in his workout programs now.

That said, he tailors his workouts to the client.

I dont make it about my style or preferences, Blanco said. I use a lifetime of knowledge and experiences working with some of the best athletes in the world to make my student better in whatever area they wish to improve.

I am a perfectionist so I am not for everyone, however, I feel like whoever can put up with me, they will be happy with the overall result and performance.

Blanco believes fighting training (non-contact) is a complete form of training, both physically and mentally.

I always emphasize the mental aspect of fighting at a high level to my students, he said.

In my experience, if you control your mind you definitely can get your body to achieve pretty much anything.

And the trainer says combat training is absolutely a good idea if you want to lose weight.

Fighting training options and exercises are limitless, there are tons of different movements that can get the body and heart rate going, getting everyone to that fat burning state pretty easily, he said.

Although workout sessions vary based on a clients abilities and goals, Blanco gave Insider an example of a training session he would typically create for a non-professional athlete.

The workout begins with a warm-up and mobility movements.

Next, its time to work on fundamental movements of the human body. This means the basic movements that all workout exercises are comprised of, including squat, lunge, hinge, push, and pull.

I am a big believer in fundamentals and also students tend to be better at patterns they understand so we practice them constantly, Blanco said.

The third part of the workout is where the combat aspect comes in, working on fight specific tasks, whether its a kick we want to perfect, a flying knee, or a particular combination.

To finish off, Blanco takes his clients through a gentle stretch to cool down and help with achieving optimal recovery.

Ultimately, Blanco says the most important thing is showing up for yourself.

The key to training is being consistent, every day just a little bit, he said.

The days when you dont want to are the days that count the most.

The diet promises slimmers to help lose up to ten pounds in a single week.

It is generally considered a quick fix diet for short-term weight loss as it requires minimal effort and has proved to be effective.

This diet is likely to cause weight loss in a short amount of time because it severely reduces your calorie intake. To lose weight, your daily calorie intake needs to be in a deficit, meaning you are burning more calories than you are consuming.

For one week, you eat homemade cabbage soup. Each day, you can also have one to two other foods, such as skimmed milk, fruit or vegetables.

This diet is perfect to jump start weight loss or to shed a few pounds for a specific occasion or event.

The cabbage soup diet is also known by other names like the Mayo Clinic Diet, because it was developed in a hospital for quick weight loss before surgery for heart patients.

It is recommended to prepare large batches of the soup at the beginning of the week for the entire week.

Ingredients: 2 large onions 2 green peppers 2 cans of tomatoes 1 bunch of celery 1 head of cabbage 3 carrots 1 pack of mushrooms 1-2 stock cubes (optional) 6-8 cups of water

Recipe: Chop all the vegetables into cubes In a large stock pot, add the onions and a small amount of oil Then add the remaining vegetables and cover with water and add stock cubes Bring to a boil, then reduce to medium heat. Let simmer until all vegetables are tender for about 30-45 minutes

Healthline recommends only sticking to the diet for around a week at a time.

You may repeat this diet if you wish to as long as you wait at least two weeks before starting it.

A positive of the diet is that you are not forced to go hungry, as you may eat as many other of the allowed foods as you want each day.

Here is a basic diet plan to follow.

The basic plan

Day 1 - Unlimited cabbage soup and fruit, but no bananas Day 2 - Only soup and vegetables. Focus on raw or cooked ready greens. Avoid peas, corn and beans. You may also have one baked potato with butter or oil Day 3 - As many fruits and vegetables as you can eat, in addition to the soup. However, no baked potato and no bananas Day 4 - Unlimited bananas, skimmed milk and cabbage soup Day 5 - You are allowed 10-20 ounces of beef, which you may substitute for chicken or fish. You may also have up to six fresh tomatoes. Drink at least six to eight glasses of water Day 6 - Soup, beef and vegetables. You may substitute the beef for grilled fish if you did not do so the day prior. Focus on leafy greens. No baked potato Day 7 - You may have vegetables, brown rice and unlimited fruit juice - but no added sugar

Mayo Clinic dietitian, Katherine Zeratsky said: You may feel weak or tired while on the diet. And once you stop the diet, its easy to regain any weight that you lost.

Fad diets like this one may be tempting, but keep in mind that long-term weight loss depends on making lasting healthy changes in your eating and exercise habits.

It is advised for long-term weight loss to opt for a healthy lifestyle change which involves exercise to keep the pounds off.

Well discuss intermittent fasting for people looking to lose weight and improve their health, whether that works or not, and whats the impact on health and the immune system, he said.

Younes said intermittent fasting is helpful in health improvement and weight loss, and that Ramadan fasting does not compromise immunity, although he warns that fasting isnt for everyone. Anyone with chronic conditions such as diabetes, cardiac or kidney conditions are not advised to go on fasts, he said.
