Weight loss: Woman shed over four stone with THIS simple diet plan – Express.co.uk
Amanda Keller, 22, grew up very skinny but never strong and in shape.
When she fell pregnant, Amanda panicked at not gaining any weight during the first half of her pregnancy and went on over-indulge in junk, gaining three stone eight pounds, resulting in her highest weight of 13 stone six pounds and a UK dress size of 14.
After months of severe chest pains, visiting the hospital several times with high blood pressure and fearing for her and her daughter's health, Amanda decided to make a change.
She found Kayla Itsines' Bikini Body Guide (BBG), and followed her workout routine as well as lowering her junk food intake. Amanda lost four stone six pounds in just 21 months and landed on the slender weight of nine stone and a UK dress size two.
Since being introduced to BBG, an eBook containing 12 weeks worth of 28 minute resistance workouts, all aspects of Amanda's health have improved.
The Arizona, USA, local said: I felt really sluggish and unhappy with my body. I wasn't happy with how the weight made me feel; physically and emotionally. I also had no energy.
"I decided to lose the weight because of two reasons; one - I just didn't like being overweight. I was a stay-at-home mum when I started working out and before I was working out, I was very depressed.
"Another reason was that I was constantly having severe chest pain for months. I went to the hospital several times and I had high blood pressure, but they could never figure out the chest pain.
"I was really worried, since I had a young baby at the time, so I decided to try to become healthier to see if that would help - and it did. The chest pain went away after losing the weight.
"I'm so much more healthy now. I don't have chest pain anymore. It helped me get out of my slump of always being indoors and depressed. I have so much more energy to keep up with my daughter now.
"I feel more positive about myself. I am proud of what I've accomplished. I've always liked playing sports a bit but I never liked running or workouts.
"I feel like I'm a much healthier person than I've ever been in my life. I'm much more positive and I feel as though I can get more done every day because of the energy it gives me."
Amanda admitted changing her diet has been the most difficult part of the weight loss process.
She said: I don't diet but I just try and remind myself when I go to grab an unhealthy snack to find healthy alternative instead.
"I didn't workout at all before, even before my pregnancy. I wasn't overweight before I got pregnant, but I was weak and had no muscle.
"I was very out of shape and would be out of breath from the simplest of activities. Now I workout three times a week and I can handle a lot more.
"I think the hardest part of losing weight is watching what you eat. It's hard to change unhealthy eating habits.
"A lot of people are surprised at how much I've lost and will ask me what I did in order to lose weight.
"My husband and friends are proud of me. I always tell people that my goal now is not to lose more weight, but to gain muscle. I am aiming to be strong, not skinny.
"Ease yourself into it and expect a few fall-backs. I gave up and started back up again several times. It's OK to take a week break if you feel like you need it.
"Do not be too hard on yourself. Also, to stay motivated, take progress photos. When I am not feeling motivated to workout, looking at my progress helps me get back in the mood to workout.
"I would also say drop all fizzy drinks, juices and alcohol. I only drink a cup of coffee in the morning and water for the rest of the day. I very rarely ever drink alcohol. We don't have fizzy drinks or juice in the house."

Weight loss: THESE three moves will help you shed pounds fast – Express.co.uk
While getting in shape doesnt take place overnight there is a quick way to slim down.
For those wanting to look and feel good in a short space of time this summer, Chris Wharton, Co-owner and Director at Better Body Group, has revealed how.
He said: The people you see looking ripped on their holidays get that way by carefully structuring their training plans, being mindful of what they eat and, most importantly, for fat loss, create a consistent calorie deficit.
That being said, the quickest way to get in shape is by including big, compound strength exercises, that recruit lots of muscle mass and subsequently raise the number of calories you burn throughout the day post workout.
Chris has three exercises for those looking to get in shape on a tight schedule.
Push press
The push press is a relatively easy exercise to learn, but packs a lot of bang for its buck. Not only does it target the arms, shoulders and trunk, but also the whole of the lower body. Its also a great exercise for adding practical strength for everyday life.
How to do it:
Perform the push press with either a barbell or pair of dumbbells. Start with the weights rested on shoulders (dumbbells) or collar (barbell)
Note - unless you are experienced in compound lifts like this, be sure to start light and perfect the technique before adding weight.
Deadlift
The deadlift should be included in pretty much every plan that aims to improve physique. The move targets many muscle groups in one single movement - the quads, calves, hamstrings, gluten, trunk, arms and upper and lower back. Its also great for improving posture and total body strength.
How to do it:
Note - this is a tricky move to perform correctly. Be sure to start light and ask for help if you need it. There is no quicker way to injure your lower back than by doing a dodgy deadlift.
Spiderman press up
Any press up variation is a valuable addition to your training regime. As another great compound exercise, the Spiderman press up not only targets your chest, shoulders and arms but also adds an extra challenge to your abs and obliques.
How to do it:
Note - for beginners, its essential to master the standard press up first, as the Spiderman press up is far more challenging on hip and core stability.
While these three gym exercises are great to add to your summer training plan, Chris urges people to remember no single exercise alone will help you shape up for summer.
He said: Be consistent and focus on creating a calorie deficit in combination with plenty of activity.

Weight loss plan: What is the F45 challenge? FREE diet promises results in eight weeks – Express.co.uk
Weight loss plan F45 claims it can change your body in just eight weeks, taking you to lean and toned in just two months.
The diet plan, which calls itself revolutionary, involves diet plans and advice, daily meal plans, and an app where you can track your progress.
Whats more, the Australian fad claims to be entirely free.
So are these claims too good to be true, or could Britons benefit from the diet plan hailing from Down Under?
The nine images show Australians who took before and after images - and the results are startling. F45, short for Functional 45, actually combines a number of the latest fitness fads to help devotees achieve maximum fitness.
It uses a mix of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Circuit Training, and Functional Training - designed to build muscle through everyday movements. F45 was founded in 2014, and now has 500 studios in Australia.
Jonathan Hawkins, Fitness Advisor at Discount Supplements, told Epxress.co.uk: "F45 is the latest craze to sweep the fitness world. It combines high-intensity interval training (HIIT) with healthy eating, to produce quick weight loss results.
"The system is made up of a combination of 15 exercises, performed in two 45-second sets (with two 15-second rest periods) and a timed water break in the middle of the circuit.
"The exercises are paired with a diet plan, designed to reduce water weight, and keep your sugar cravings at bay. The plan strengths lie in the timings, as the circuits are so fast and so intense, you dont have time to waste, so it feels like its over before you know it.
The company releases 45-minute workouts that fans follow, which is similar to the popular cross fit craze.
There are also strict meal plans designed to help the body get lean.
A standard daily meal plan during the challenge involves scrambled eggs for breakfast, a protein shake, courgette with bolognese and fish and letils for dinner.
According to reports the work out plan is used by Hugh Jackman and Nicole Richie.
While little can be done currently to prove or disprove the effectiveness of the workout, scientific studies seem to suggest that the HIIT style of exercise does aid weight loss.
A paper from The Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness studying the effects of HITT on overweight women found tangible results and concluded that HIIT program is an effective measure for the treatment of young women who are overweight.
Currently, the plan is only available in the UK in London.
Carolyn Hartz, author of Sugar-Free Baking, recently revealed the secret to her slender and ageless appearance.
The 70-year-old Australian has wowed the public with her youthful appearance.

In Focus: Seriously, No Need To Starve Yourself Aiming For A Luscious ‘It Girl’ Bod! Just Try This! – ABS-CBN News
When it comes to having a healthy body, ladies look up to Kapamilya stars as those who truly radiate health. For instance, Anne Curtis isknown for being an exercise advocateas seen on her numerous posts on Instagram. Meanwhile, Isabelle Daza, who is a firm believer in a healthy lifestyle, promotes the importance of exercise and proper nutritionthrough her indoor cycling studio Ride Revolution and nutrition service company Better Health.
While these "It Girls" often work with trainers to get strong and fit, there are other ways that you can get in shape in a healthy way, such as exercising at home, healthy eating, and intermittent fasting.
What is intermittent fasting?
Going on a diet is the norm for most people who are looking to shed the extra weight, but some fad diets can be bad for your health.Intermittent fasting is not a diet rather, it is a method of eating. You dont restrict what you eat, but you do control when to eat. By undergoing fast periods, your body doesnt only shed the excess weight, but it also burns fat more effectively.
The goal here is to lower the number of calories that you consume in order to encourage your system to burn through your fat stores. Fasting can be as simple as eating dinner, then not consuming anything but liquids such as coffee, tea, or broth until 1p.m. the next day. You then get to eat lunch and dinner normally before repeating the whole process all over again.
How intermittent fasting works
Some celebrities know that it takes a lot of hard work to get their body in good condition, hence the hours of workouts and the difficult exercises that they do on a regular basis. Some local celebs alsoadjust the way they eatto lose weight the healthy way.
Exercising and changing the way you eat requires willpower, and intermittent fasting will also require the same amount of discipline for it to work. But the results are definitely worth it, especially when the pounds start to fall off. But how does intermittent fasting work to melt unwanted fat?
After eating a big meal, your body is in a fed state and it absorbs all the nutrients from your food. Once the food is digested, your body is in a post-absorptive state that can last up to 12 hours after eating. During a fasted state, your bodys glucose levels go down, your insulin levels rise, and this causes your body to burn through its fat reserves for energy.
Why you should try intermittent fasting
We all go through periods when we feel heavy and sluggish, or perhaps youd just like to lose the last few stubborn pounds from your body. With intermittent fasting, you not only get to lose weight in the simplest way, but you also learn a new way of eating to benefit your overall health and lifestyle.
Workouts can become more effective when you exercise on an empty stomach as your metabolism works hard to burn excess fats to give you energy. Moreover, you can stave off emotional eating, and because youre eating fewer calories, you begin to make better choices when it comes to the food that you eat. Restricting calories may even help you live longer, which is always a plus.
If youre in good health, you can certainly try intermittent fasting to shed the weight in a healthy way. But just to be on the safe side, consult your doctor before fasting to see if its right for you.

2018 Honda CRF250R First Look | 20 Fast Facts – UltimateMotorcycling.com
Forget updatesthe 2018 Honda CRF250R is an all-new motocross motorcycle from the knobs up. Lets take a look at the essential facts you need to know about the new CRF250R.
1. The 2018 CRF250R is all-new. Facing declining CRF250R sales, Honda has brought out a motocross motorcycle that is almost completely different from last years edition.
2. Electric starting is standard. Well get to the performance improvements in a moment, but weve all been waiting for an electric start CRF250R, and now we have it. A lithium-ion battery in the airbox helps manage the additional weight.
3. The 2018 Honda CRF250R follows the Absolute Holeshot ethos of the CRF450R. As were all aware, holeshots are a first-class ticket toward winning. So, Honda has reconfigured the CRF250Rs motor and chassis to give it that needed jump off the gate. Focus was put on more power, more rear grip, and less front-end lift.
4. The long-running Unicam design is replaced by a DOHC valve train. The 2018 CRF250R is about revs, as youll see, so Honda went to a DOHC design for the first time in CRF250R history.
5. Sucking in more of the fuel/air mixture gets the power pumping. As a result, Honda claims the new CRF250R is smoother off the bottom, with more midrange and top end power. All four valves are titanium with a more compact valve angle. This also allows more room for the new downdraft intake, plus a new airbox and intake system Honda says increases air-charging efficiency.
6. A bigger bore and shorter stroke means a higher rev limit. Honda shortened the stroke by a significant 2.9mm and there is a new bridged box piston that is now 79mm wide (a bump of 2.2mm). Also, the compression ratio gets a small nudge.
7. To aid the higher revving, the CRF250R gets a new crankshaft with an H-shaped cross-section. Weight is reduced by more than 12 ounces, yet Honda says is has the same rigidity and internal mass.
8. The torque and horsepower peaks come later, so youll want to rev the new CRF250R. Honda isnt shy about itpower is down a bit in the lower half of the rev range, and then comes alive for the upper mid-range and top end. Timid racers should like the softer bottom, while those who like to slam the rev limiter will love the new shrieking top end.
9. The 2018 Honda CRF250R gets a fully independent dual exhaust system. With all that air pushing through the motor, the new exhaust system features two separate headpipes and mufflersthere is no crossover. Honda claims more power and improved throttle response from this system.
10. Theres a new single-system for the oil. Running just 1250cc rather than 1600cc saves about 11 ounces of weight. There is also a shorter oil path to the engine, plus a new piston oil jet that sprays the bottom of the piston. The system reduces pump loss by maintaining negative pressure in the crankcase.
11. More power means a new clutch for the CRF250R. There are now two friction materials, instead of one, which should provide a better feel. The shape of the clutch has been changed, as well.
12. The transmission gets a stronger and lighter material, plus revised gear ratios. With a new powerband, new ratios are a must. The primary ratio is lower, with the five-speeds getting raised slightly.
13. There are three engine modes on the 2018 Honda CRF250R, and two can be remapped. Standard is fixed, and you can adjust Smooth and Aggressive to your liking.
14. The new chassis has a shorter swingarm and wheelbase, along with a slightly relaxed rake. The 15mm-shorter swingarm puts more weight on the rear wheel, which is part of the Absolute Holeshot effort, while the shorter wheelbase should make the 2018 Honda CRF250R more agile. To keep the front end down, rake is kicked out a tenth of a degree.
15. The new frame focuses on front-end stability. The frame sits a bit lower and farther forward, and cuts the weight by 12 ounces (theres that number again!). Tapered aluminum main spars in the frame are designed to improve the feel of the front end.
16. Like the CRF450R, the 2018 Honda CRF250R now has a titanium fuel tank. It also sits lower and drops 18 ounces from the weight of the bike. This is a critical place to lose weight, as it sits so high on the motorcycle.
17. The Showa SPG fork is a coil-spring design and the shock sits lower on the shorter, lighter swingarm. The swingarm goes on a 7.7-ounce diet (being shorter helps reduce unsprung weight), and the bottom shock mount is lowered and now centralized. The spring Showa fork has a 39mm piston and 25mm rod.
18. Dunlop Geomax MX3S is the rubber of choice. These are high-end tires, so unless you ride on extreme hard pack or sand, you wont have to switch out tires for your first ride.
19. The 2018 Honda CRF250R bodywork has been redone. It is now slimmer for reduced air resistance, and the graphics are molded into the plastic. Also, more air is directed to the radiator for the higher-revving motor.
20. The price is a secret. Well let you know when we know.

SUTHERLAND: Not so fast! Get the skinny on fasting to lose weight – Alaska Highway News
Intermittent fasting has recently become more popular within the fitness community. Athletes are using a variety of different fasting methods to cut body fat and lose weight. But what exactly is fasting, and what are the pros and cons to this weight loss method?
The definition of fasting is the abstinence of food and drink (except water) for any length of time after the complete absorption of a meal. Food is usually absorbed within three to five hours after eating, and that is when the body begins metabolic changes. Prolonged fasting is a fast that lasts anywhere between eight and 72 hours.
Fasting can have a lot of benefitsif it is done safely. According to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, tests using fasting have shown positive effects such as stress resistance, increased insulin sensitivity, reduced morbidity, and an increased life span. Fasting gives the body a chance to rest and cleanse. Energy that is normally directed at the digestive system can be used elsewhere throughout the body to repair and detox other systems. Intermittent fasting has been shown to improve cholesterol and reduce inflammation. Fasting can also improve mental clarity, focus, and increase energy levels. After your body uses up all the available energy from the food you have recently eaten, it will begin to use the fat stores within your body. That is when you will start to see weight loss, and possibly fat loss depending on the length of the fast and how often you fast.
Although there are many positives to fasting, there are also negatives. The body needs more than carbohydrates to run efficiently; it also needs protein, vitamins, and minerals. Those are not stored in fat, unlike carbs, so your body does not have access to them and cannot perform a variety of jobs throughout the body. Even though increases in energy levels are in the positives, fasting can also make your body feel lethargic and tired due to a drop in blood sugar levels. Also, without food, stomach acids are more likely to burn through the lining in your stomach.
There are people who should not attempt fasting: pregnant and breastfeeding women (this is a time to nourish your body and your baby), children and young teenagers who are growing and active, those with adrenal fatigue, or low thyroid function. Also, if you have had eating disorders in the past, fasting may cause those issues to resurface. Lastly, if you are on medication it is important to consult with a doctor before fasting. Fasting on certain medications may cause complications. Extended or prolonged fasting can lead to thinning hair, electrolyte imbalances, downy hair, cardiac arrhythmia, renal failure, and even starvation leading to death.
I wouldnt recommend fasting for longer than 48 hours at a time, and make sure to drink plenty of water during your fast to maintain hydration. Drinking lots of water will also help to lessen the feeling of hunger you will experience during your fast. Every person is different. For some, fasting will be a walk in the park, but for others it may not be so easy. Listen to your body; if you dont feel well it is OK to break the fast.
I have done 24-hour fasts before, and I dont mind them. They can be tough at different points in the day, and exercising can be a little bit more draining, but I do experience a lot of the benefits. Weigh the pros and cons, and give fasting a try if you it is safe for you to do so. If you dont like it, hopefully you wont ever have to do it again. If you do like it then you can begin to make it apart of your routine.

AskNadia: Why I Am Going to Stop Taking My Insulin – Diabetes Health (press release)
Dear Nadia,
I have type 2 diabetes and am overweight. I want to get off my insulin and have decided to fast to lose weight and stop taking my insulin. I bought a cleanse and diet package. I do not want to go to my Doctor because I am scared he will talk me out of it.Shauna
Dear Shauna:
As a person living with Type 2 diabetes, you certainly can get your blood sugar levels to where you can go off your medication. I cannot emphasize enough, why you must work with a healthcare professional without sharing my personal loss with you.
In 2000, my mother, a type 2 for 13 years with an A1c of 10, passed away from diabetes complications. My Aunt Grace, not a blood relative, a close family member who was at my birth, attended my mothers memorial. In my grief, I sat next to my Aunt Grace for comfort at my moms wake. I could see my Aunt was not feeling well. I asked her about her diabetes and if she had tested her blood sugar. She confessed that she did not have her blood glucose meter with her. My former husband, a type 1 for 45 years with no complications, tested her blood sugar. Her reading was over 600 mg/dl. Grieving the loss of my mother, I did not want to lose my Aunt Grace as I did my mother. I told her she needed to follow her healthcare professionals training on how to take insulin to bring her blood sugar down. She decided to inject injected 12 units of Novolog and waited an hour before taking her blood sugar reading the second time. To our surprise, one hour later, her blood sugar reading was still 600 mg/dl after taking 12 units of Novolog. She decided to inject another 12 units of NovoLog. Shortly after her second insulin injection, she left my mothers memorial.
In my grief, I neglected to check up on her. I do remember saying Aunt Grace, please speak to your healthcare professional to help you bring your blood sugar is in the normal range.
Four months later, my best friend called me in tears, two days before her birthday to inform me that her mother, my Aunt Grace, passed away. She asked me to come to her mothers house immediately. I asked my life long friend what had happened? She said that her mother decided to go off of her insulin by going on a fast. She did not discuss this with her physician in fear that her Western medical Kaiser Doctor would discourage her from an alternative way of managing her diabetes. As brilliant as my Aunt Grace was, she missed a crucial fact. Going off of insulin requires a gradual life style change. It does not happen over night. Especially, if you are taking insulin.
People that are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are usually prescribed metformin. Once metformin losses its effectiveness in maintaining normal blood sugars, physicians will prescribe insulin.
Going off of insulin requires a lifestyle change. Working with your healthcare physician, you can start lowering your insulin requirements to the completely going off of insulin. Dont do this alone. Nothing is more gratifying for a healthcare professional than seeing their patients achieve better blood sugar control. Know that your healthcare professional is invested as you are in helping you achieve better diabetes outcomes.

‘Motivated’ podcast: ‘Not all carbs are evil’ – ABC News
Carbs often get a bad reputation. On the latest episode of "Motivated" with Mara Schiavocampo, endocrinologist Dr. Rekha Kumar and nutritionist Maya Feller tell you what you need to know about balancing carbs and a healthy lifestyle.
1) Not all carbs are evil
I wish I could stand from the rooftops and yell out not all carbs are evil -- you just have to find the right ones, Feller said. Often the perception is to cut carbs if you are trying to lose weight or stay in shape. Feller argues that a low-carb philosophy is not always the secret to staying fit.
So many people believe that they have to take the carbs out of their diet completely and actually you do need some carbohydrates. The question of the type of carbohydrate if you're pairing it and the portion size that you're having you know you can't take it all out.
For healthy carbs, she recommends starting with a plant based or whole grain source. I love non-starchy vegetables. I think everyone could eat probably two or three more servings per day. Try switching out rice for a palm-size serving of green beans, peas or squash. They tend to last a little bit longer in comparison to refined carbohydrates, she added.
2) Not all carbs are equal
Not all carbs are equal either, Kumar emphasized. So 100 calories from a doughnut is different than you know 100 calories from a sweet potato salad. Your body processes food differently despite the calorie count, which is important to remember if youre counting your calories for weight loss. You're going to get fiber, you're going to get potassium; 100 calories from a donut is going to give you added sugar-refined carbohydrates where they have put the vitamins and minerals back in, Feller said.
3) Find what works for your body
While there are many tips for balancing carbs and a healthy lifestyle, its still important to find what works for your body. I think that that's one of the biggest challenges that we have in this country right now is that people are looking for those magic numbers while living in this fast food nation, Feller said. Figuring out your normal is key -- Feller recommends meeting with a doctor or dietitian to see where you should be.
New episodes of "Motivated" are posted every Monday on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Play Music, ABCNewsPodcasts.com and the ABC News apps.
