The 40-year-old actress says it resulted in her secret eating disorder, which lasted more than a decade, according to her new book, "You & I, as Mothers."

The star revealed toPeople that her bulimia began when a modeling agency told her to lose weight and her mother Marjorie helped her to realize she could eat and purge.
She explained that she had gone for an open casting at an agency, where she was told to lose 25 lbs., and the weight loss soon became her and her mother's "shared project."
"My mom started weighing me every morning and taking my measurements," Laura said.
Eventually she was down to just 105 lbs. which gave her a BMI of 15.1, dangerously below the a low normal weight BMI of 18.5.

"Thats when she told me, 'You can have your cake and eat it too.' I knew exactly what she was talking about," Laura recalled.
"It was a bonding thing we would do together. A shared secret."
"I think she was trying to help me in her own way," she said of her mother, Marjorie.
Laura added her bulimia lasted from 15 into her late 20s. She joined the cast of That 70's Show at age 18.

"I always thought of myself as this strong, confident woman, but it became a compulsion that would completely debilitate me," she revealed.
The star's mother Marjorie was diagnosed with Alzheimers about seven years ago, and as she lost her sense of self, Laura felt compelled to confront their past.
However, she doesn't want to feel anger toward her, especially with the limited time they have left, and is instead focusing on being healthy.
She is now a mother herself, sharing a baby boy and a three-year-old daughter named Ella with her husband Ben Foster.

Eating in America is like swimming in a tsunami. The best of intentions get pulled under by massive forces. Kelly D. Brownell, Food Fight.
The latest report about the obesity epidemic in the United States is that about 40% of U.S. adults are obese and nearly 1 in 10 is severely so. A half-century ago, about 1 in 100 American adults were severely obese. Now that its 10 times more common, it is believed that more Americans to suffer from diabetes, heart disease and cancer according to Dr. William Dietz, a Georgetown University obesity expert who wrote: Obesity which means not merely overweight, but seriously overweight is considered one of the nations leading public health problems.
After reading the report, I couldnt help but notice the ads on TV for supposed ways to lose those extra pounds. I recalled several years ago when some really creative methods were publicized methods that were supposed to solve the problem. For instance, there was the woman who teamed up with a guru-type person who claimed that all you had to do is follow her program and voila, the pounds disappeared. After all, everyone knows (dont they?) someone who has been overweight for a long time and has tried many times to lose pounds has little possibility of losing weight for good. Just ask Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers.
Another interesting gimmick for losing weight turned up in a book I read around that time titled, Why We Get Fat by Gary Traube. He said we are going about trying to lose weight in the wrong way. He may be right, but its hard to believe that his method is the answer either. He recommends eating a high fat diet replete with fatty meats and very low in carbohydrates. According to Traube, an ideal dinner is a big T-bone steak, a cup of salad greens with a fatty dressing and 1/2 to 1 cup of a vegetable. And you will not be hungry!
One more 20th century magical weight loss solution. I wonder what happened to Sensa. It was on one of those channels that offer us 30-minute commercials. All you had to do was sprinkle it on your food and you would find you were satisfied quickly and the pounds just melted off. No counting calories, no restrictive diet, no packaged food. We were told that Sensa activated your hunger control switch so you never feel hungry or deprived. (How many times have we heard that before?). Millions of people have lost a gazillion pounds. Call in the next 30 minutes and you can get a 30-day supply for just $9.99. Nowhere were we told just what was in this stuff. Would it be found to cause some health problems similar to those caused by some diet pills?
If all of that failed, we could get the new huge tome, The 4 hour Body an uncommon guide to rapid weight loss, incredible sex and becoming superhuman. No, thats not a joke! It was number 7 on the Bay Area non-fiction best-seller list on Feb. 27, 2011! Hard to believe.
Does anyone really know what has caused the unprecedented increase in obesity among both adults and children? Choose one or more: The weakness of so many consumers to avoid high calorie foods and get their diets in order. Maybe some high-processed foods that may be changing appetite or metabolism, chemicals used in processed foods and/or the environment like those in Roundup that can cause changes in body processes, psychological problems like depression and anxiety, or many malnourished women getting pregnant. Or maybe something yet to be discovered.
Now we are bombarded with ads for Nutrisystem. We are told that we can lose up to 18 pounds by eating the food they send us like pizza, hamburgers, etc. goods that anyone who is health conscious avoids. No doubt it is their version of such foods, but who knows what is in them? How many chemical additives? Maybe even Sensa! Then theres Weight Wage where apparently you are rewarded for the pounds you lose.
A large part of the problem is that hardly anyone cooks from scratch anymore often using ready-prepared products that can be microwaved or heated on the stove.
As for now, the road to health and maybe even to losing some weight is a boring one and to many too much trouble. Its refusing to eat or drink any food that is more than minimally processed and/or is high in sweeteners and/or fat and concentrating on whole grains, veggies and fruit for all meals and snacks. Of course, if enough of us were to do that, the economy would likely go to pot.
Oh, yes, I must not forget the doctor who was quoted as saying that a few extra pounds on an older woman can be a good thing. Now, theres a man after my own heart!

Last year she told her followers that she wanted to set a better example for her children, after having a hip operation.
"I was in chronic pain, I was depressed and I weighed more then I ever have in my whole life! I reached out to@paulinastein and asked her for her help. I had no idea where to start. I felt lost," she revealed last November.
"Not only did I want to lose weight to feel and look better, but I wanted to be healthier and set a good example for my kids! I havent felt this good in a long time and with a new hip, and 15 pounds off Im finally able to keep up with my kids and be more active," she continued.

The star said it was hard to keep up the motivation to exercise during the pandemic.
"Although necessary, this self-isolation, social-distancing and spending ALL day with my kids and husband has put a damper on my spirits, and on my motivation to work out..." she wrote on Instagram last week.
She's been sharing her workouts three days a week on Instagram Live, during the safer at home order in place in California.
Emily has been married to husband Shane for ten years and they share three children - daughter Annabelle and twin boys Luke and Keller; Emilys sister Sara stepped in as a surrogate for all three of Emilys children.

"We're going to have to put a workout into our routine as well so every morning I'm going to get it in. Let's go.

The 44-year-old singer became a Weight Watchers ambassador in 2018 and, as a result, lost 26 pounds due to the manageable points system.
He said at the time: "Man. Weight Watchers is going good. The freestyle programme is doing real big. It's a real lifestyle because all you have to do is not go over your point [total]. And there are so many zero points [foods] in case you get hungry. I got the freestyle dance. Right now, the last weigh in as like 26 pounds. I got rid of - I don't lose. All I do is win - you know what I mean."
At the time, the 'Do You Mind' hitmaker said he wanted to lose weight for his son Asahd, now three years old, because he loves him so much.

What Is The Volumetrics DietAnd Can It Help You Lose Weight? – Pulse Ghana
Luckily, its not too good to be true: Developed by Barbara Rolls, Ph.D., a professor of nutritional sciences and obesity researcher at Penn State, the well-researched Volumetrics diet was named the number-two best diet for weight loss and tied for the number-five best diet overall (out of 40 diets) in the 2018 U.S. News & World Reports Best Diet Rankings . It received high scores from nutrition experts for being safe, effective, and sustainable in the long run.
And, yes, it centers on one fairly simple idea: filling up on fewer calories. The main claim, and premise by which the Volumetrics diet works, is the satiety claim, says Lisa Davis, Ph.D., chief nutrition officer at Terras Kitchen .
The primary focus is filling up on foods that are naturally low in calories and high in fiber or waterthink fruits, veggies, and soups. Since carbohydrates and proteins both provide four calories per gram, and fat provides nine calories per gram, you can eat more [carbs and protein] without the excess calories, she explains, noting that people following the Volumetrics diet can expect to lose up to two pounds per week.
Of course, like most things in life, theres more to the Volumetrics diet than meets the eye. We talked to a few registered dietitians to get the low-down on this eating approach.
If diets with strict rules and restrictions make you crazy, here's your reason to celebrate: You don't have to count calories , measure food, or log points on the diet. "Volumetrics is not a precisely prescribed diet plan, but rather a concept and overarching nutritional approach, says Paul Salter, R.D., nutrition editor for Bodybuilding.com and founder of Fit In Your Dress .
On the Volumetrics diet, food is divided into four groups, he explains. Your goal: Eat mostly foods in groups one and two, be mindful of portion sizes of foods in group three, and minimize choices of foods from group four. And nothing is completely off-limits.
Here's what you might eat in a typical day on the Volumetrics diet, according to Salter:
Of course, the million-dollar question: Is it legit? According to solid scientific research (including a 2016 meta-analysis of 13 studies that found a link between low-density foods and weight loss) and well, good old-fashioned common sense, it works. One of the main reasons why people break their healthy eating is because they get hungry, says Julie Upton, R.D., a registered dietitian and co-founder of Appetite for Health . Since you're still eating a high volume of food on the Volumetrics plan, you avoid those diet-busting hunger pains.
Hundreds of other nutrition studies back this up. In a 2007 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition , researchers randomly assigned 97 obese women to either a low-fat diet or a low-energy-dense, low-fat diet that emphasized fruits and vegetables. After a year, both groups lost weight, but the fruits-and-vegetables dieters lost even more14 pounds compared with 11 pounds. The researchers deemed low-energy-dense diets an effective way to drop pounds and keep them off.
A 2005 study published in Obesity Research , co-authored by the Volumetrics diet creator, Rolls, suggests that a diet high in low-density foods and soup, a staple on the Volumetrics eating plan, leads to substantial weight loss. Another study of 186 women found decreasing energy density is a way to prevent weight gain and obesity in both the short and long term.
Another perk of the Volumetrics diet: The majority of low-calorie, high-volume foods are nutrient-rich , and therefore positively impact your health in a variety of ways, Salter says.
Now, if alarm bells are ringing in your head, you're not alone. As we've written about before, not all high-calorie foods are "bad" for you. In fact, plenty of foods that are high in calories and fat are essential for good health, such as nuts, seeds, avocado, and fatty fish.
One potential drawback to this diet is that it recommends a very low consumption of nuts and seeds (since they are calorically dense), Davis explains. "Nuts and seeds provide monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids; both beneficial for cardiovascular and cognitive health."

Plus, like many diet plans, it can also be difficult to dine out on the Volumetrics diet, since so many restaurants and food services prepare their food with high-calorie, high-fat butters and oils, Davis points out. But no foods are 100 percent prohibited on this dietit's more about putting the principles into practice.
First, you'll want to check out Rolls' book, The Ultimate Volumetrics Diet . Then, you'll want to make meal prep your BFF. "Buy all of your produce and prep a lot of it over the weekend," Upton suggests. You'll also want to find some great soup recipes. "Broth-based soups are very low in energy density and if you eat them before a meal, they can help you eat less," she says.
" Planning out your meals for the week ahead of time will be crucial to your success," Salter adds. "Try to keep some high-volume, convenient foods handy too, such as fresh fruit and plenty of low-fat dairy. Once you return from grocery shopping, make food prep a priority so that theres no thinking required at meal timesall you need to do is heat and eat!"

Finally, while it's not an essential component, the diet plan does encourage more movement throughout the day. There's no rigorous exercise program, but it does suggest simply increasing the amount of steps you take per day with the end goal of reaching around 10,000 steps, Davis says.
The bottom line? If the thought of prepping and eating more low-density foods, skipping calorie counts, and simply moving more sounds doable, you may be the perfect candidate to give the Volumetrics diet a try.

In 2017, the star opened up to The Sun about his decision to lose weight - and shared his tips and tricks for maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

He said: "I made a conscious decision to cut down on fried and high sugar foods, as well as booze which helped me lose weight.
When I was at my biggest I was having a daily fry up, fish and chips once per week, takeaway a couple more times and drinking beer nearly every day. At first, I felt like I was missing out.
But my body got used to what I was giving it and yours will too.
As well as changing his diet and cutting back on alcohol, Gregg has dramatically upped his exercise regime.

He told The Sun that he's in the gym "most mornings", adding: "It has been a gradual lifestyle change. I now feel fit and strong because of it. But only you can move yourself into a healthier place."

If you were to define the TV chefs in one word Jamie: pukka; Gordon: angry; Delia: mumsy; Hugh: posh; Nigella: saucy; Heston: bonkers; Floyd: pickled you would define the Hairy Bikers as jolly. Their concept is simple. They are hairy (Si King, 53, sports the bushier face-fuzz; Dave Myers, 62, is more coiffured). They ride big, angry motorcycles. They are northern (King is from County Durham, Myers from Cumbria). They are lovable in a larky, Ant & Dec way, and not frightening in an about-to-get-kneecapped-with-a-pool-cue-for-asking-to-use-the-toilets-in-a-strictly-bikers-only-pub, Sons of Anarchy way. And they like their grub. Boy, do they like their grub. Best served by the trough-full and as physically close to a park as possible.
The HBs first appeared on our screens in 2004 in The Hairy Bikers Cookbook, where Si and Dave two-wheeled around the world, only stopping to stuff their faces with whatever the local cuisine had to offer. Nothing was off-menu, from crocodile satay in Namibia to goat penis in Vietnam (yum). The boys lapped it up. If theyd run it over, theyd probably have had it for lunch in a baguette. The Hairy Bikers Food Tour of Britain saw them scoff their way from Lands End to John O Groats, pitting their culinary skills against local chefs, and rustling up Lincolnshire plum breads, Norfolk dumplings and Welsh black beef wellingtons. In Best of British, the duo crammed their cakeholes with the history behind traditional British cuisine, from steak and kidney puddings to faggots and spotted dick. In Mums Know Best, they ding-dong! gatecrashed families trying to eat their tea to half-inch mothers top-secret recipes for paella, pavlova and mulligatawny soup.
Their recipes such as Shropshire Fidget and Sultans Delight may have sounded more like definitions from Roger Mellies Profanisaurus than food. On a difficulty rating of Ainsley to Heston, the Bikers happily sit around the Tim Lovejoy mark, ie about the level of your mate whos much better at cooking than you.
