Type 2 Diabetes Apps Help With Modest Weight Loss, Review Finds – Everyday Health
Mobile apps might help some obese or overweight people with type 2 diabetes shed excess pounds (lbs), but a recent review also suggests that results may be modest at best.
For thepaper, published in January 2020 in Obesity, researchers looked at changes in waist circumference, weight, and body mass index (BMI) in 2,129 people with type 2 diabetes who participated in one of 14 different clinical trials testing a variety of mobile apps for diabetes self-management. These trials randomly assigned some participants to use apps, while others did not, and interventions lasted between 3 and 12 months.
By the end of the trials, people who used diabetes apps lost an average of 0.84 kilograms (about 1.9 lbs) more than participants who didnt. With mobile apps, people also reduced their waist circumference by 1.35 centimeters (about inch) more on average.
BMI appeared lower with apps than without these tools, but the difference was too small to rule out the possibility that it was due to chance.
Reductions in weight, waist circumference, and BMI appeared more pronounced when people were obese and when participants used apps in combination with other interventions designed to promote healthy eating and exercise habits. Some of the trials in the analysis allowed participants to pursue other approaches to weight loss with or without also using a mobile app to manage diabetes.
Mobile application interventions combined with other behavior components lead to a larger magnitude of weight loss, says senior study author Mingzi Li, PhD, of Peking University in Beijing. However, the mobile application functionalities do not moderate weight loss significantly.
Face-to-face or supervised lifestyle modification programs have long been considered a cornerstone of diabetes care, Dr. Li and colleagues wrote. Obesity is a risk factor for developing diabetes and for experiencing potentially serious complications, like blindness, amputations, kidney failure, heart attacks, and strokes.
People who lose at least 5 percent of their body weight in the first year after a diabetes diagnosis may cut their 10-year risk of events like heart attacks and strokes roughly in half, according to a study published in May 2019 in Diabetologia.
And people who lose less weight may still see benefits. Patients with diabetes who lost no more than 2.5 percent of their body weight, for example, were able to lower their blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure, according to a review and meta-analysis published in June 2016 in Obesity Reviews.

In the current study, people typically lost less than 2.5 percent of their body weight. This doesnt seem like much, but it might be enough for them to see improvements in blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure, Li and colleagues wrote.
Weight loss didnt appear to be influenced by whether apps had certain features, like tracking physical activity, logging food, counting calories, monitoring weight, or monitoring or recording blood sugar levels.
This might be because all studied mobile apps had four to five functionalities on average, and it is therefore difficult to distinguish between individual effects, Li said.
At the start of the trials, participants were 58 years old on average and had an average BMI of 30, meaning they typically had obesity.
People who started out with a higher BMI appeared to benefit more from using apps. For each additional unit in BMI as measured at the start of the trials, people using apps achieved of 0.15 kilograms (about 0.3 lbs) more weight loss on average.

Even though the current study pooled results from randomized controlled clinical trials considered the gold standard for medical research there are still some limitations.
One big drawback is that the studies didnt provide long-term weight loss outcomes, particularly because so many people who lose weight struggle to keep it off.
Another limitation is that the results dont show what types of apps or features within apps might help the most with weight loss.
More research is needed to determine whether apps might help people who dont have time or money to do face-to-face appointments with psychologists, nutritionists, or other clinicians who might help them develop and stick to a weight loss plan, Li and colleagues pointed out.
Its possible, they argue, that apps might help some busy people stick with weight loss efforts because its easier and more convenient to use a smartphone every day to monitor progress than it is to go to checkups.
People with diabetes who try and fail to lose substantial amounts of weight using only an app shouldnt be discouraged that they dont get results, says Susan Roberts, PhD, a professor of nutrition at Tufts University in Boston and founder of iDiet.
Dont feel guilty if an app isnt helping you, Dr. Roberts says. They dont help the average person much based on these results, and there are other ways to lose weight.
Whether or not people use apps, regular monitoring of progress with lifestyle changes and weight loss efforts is one key to success, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Besides mobile app interventions, there has been a growing evidence that interventions like step counters could be effective in weight loss as well, Li said. If combined with additional behavior change components, including multidisciplinary diabetes care management or health coaching, they will be more effective.

My friends Mike and Robin have been on the keto diet for a couple of years. They lost a ton of weight, and they look fit and trim better than Ive ever seen them, and Ive known them more than 30 years.
Their results are not unusual. The keto diet often leads to rapid weight loss.
The trick lies in keeping it off. Mike and Robin have done it well, but a lot of people cant. And therein lies a problem, according to Jennifer McDaniel, a registered dietitian and the owner of McDaniel Nutrition Therapy in St. Louis.
While you might gain benefits in the short term just like any other restrictive diet, most people like, 90% of the people have trouble staying on it. When they lose the weight and they cant maintain the weight that they attained, thats just another failed diet, she said.
The keto diet is a high-fat, low-carbohydrates diet its like the Atkins diet on steroids, McDaniel said. People on the diet strive to consume 70% to 80% of their calories through fats, as little as 5% through carbohydrates and the rest through protein.
This helps us lose weight because it forces our bodies to burn fat for energy instead of its preferred fuel, carbohydrates.
McDaniel recommends that her clients not go on the keto diet. The diet changes the microbiome in their bodies (the bacteria, fungi and more that live inside us). It is difficult for people on the diet to consume enough fiber, which can lead to constipation and other gastrointestinal nastiness. And because carbohydrates hold onto water, people on the diet are often dehydrated, she said.
And yet, as Mike and Robin and thousands of others can attest, it works. So I decided to try a few recipes to see how they tasted.
The rules of the keto diet are highly restrictive, which can make cooking difficult. You need to avoid fruit, sugars, grains, beans and legumes, rice, potatoes, candy and juice.
Ingredients to be encouraged include meat, fatty fish, eggs, butter and cream, cheese, nuts and seeds, certain oils (olive, avocado, coconut) and low-carb vegetables most green vegetables, tomatoes, onions, peppers and the like.
Its a lot to take in, so I began with a simple and entirely wonderful dish of Citrus-Marinated Olives. These are a marvelous treat, combining the heady earthiness of olives with bright notes of orange and lemon. Though the flavors are disparate, they work surprisingly well together.
Another winner was Keto Egg Cups, a dish that concisely presents everything that is good about keto cooking: Little cups made from prosciutto hold eggs mixed with cream, spinach, roasted red peppers and mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
Two entrees came next. First, I took a recipe for Instant-Pot Keto Mediterranean Chicken and made it a recipe for Keto Mediterranean Chicken Without an Instant Pot. It only took about five minutes longer than the Instant-Pot version, and it was deeply satisfying.
The other entree, Keto Breaded Chicken Cutlets, isnt bad but Id only make it again if I were on the keto diet. The chicken is dredged through almond flour before frying, which gives it a duller flavor than wheat flour.
Keto Mediterranean Chicken
Adapted from a recipe by the Food Network; yield: 4 servings
1 tablespoon olive oil
8 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
Salt and pepper
3 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
1 cup pitted kalamata olives
2 tablespoons capers
2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 cup whole-milk Greek yogurt
1/4 cup fresh flat-leaf parsley, roughly chopped
2 tablespoons fresh mint leaves, roughly chopped
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Heat oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Liberally sprinkle chicken with salt and pepper and cook half of the pieces, skin-side down, until the skin is deeply browned, 6 to 8 minutes. Flip and cook until the other side is deeply browned, 4 to 6 minutes. Transfer to a plate and repeat with remaining pieces of chicken.
Pour out all but 1 tablespoon of the fat (if on the keto diet, keep all the fat in the pot). Return pot to heat and add garlic; cook until golden brown, about 1 minute. Add the olives, capers, vinegar, oregano and 1/2 cup water; stir to combine and to scrape up any browned bits at the bottom of the pot. Return chicken pieces to pot and stir to mix.
Cover and cook at a simmer until chicken is done, about 30 minutes. Remove the chicken and boil the sauce to reduce it by half.
Meanwhile, mix the yogurt, parsley, mint, lemon zest and lemon juice, plus a large pinch of salt and pepper. Stir to combine. Taste and season with more salt and pepper, if needed.
Serve the chicken with its sauce, and the yogurt sauce on the side.
Keto Egg Cups
Recipe from the Food Network; yield: 3 servings
1 tablespoon butter, see note
6 large, thin slices of prosciutto
1/3 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan
1/4 cup packed baby spinach leaves, chopped
1/4 cup roasted red peppers, chopped
6 large eggs
1/4 cup heavy cream
Salt and pepper
Note: To make this recipe even more keto-friendly, instead of greasing the muffin tin with 1 tablespoon of butter, melt 2 tablespoons and brush the tin with it. It will pool in the bottom of each cup, but that is OK.
Position an oven rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 400 degrees.
Grease the cups of a muffin tin with the 1 tablespoon of butter (or brush with 2 tablespoons of melted butter). Line each cup with a slice of prosciutto, folding and overlapping so that the entire surface of the cup is covered and no metal is peeking through. Divide the mozzarella evenly among the cups. Repeat with the Parmesan, spinach and roasted red peppers.
Whisk the eggs and cream in a large measuring cup or small pitcher; add some salt and a few grinds of pepper. Pour the egg mixture in each cup, making sure not to overfill.
Bake until the eggs are set and wobble only slightly, 10 to 12 minutes (the eggs will continue to cook after they come out). Let cool 5 minutes, then use a thin knife or offset spatula, if necessary, to loosen the prosciutto from the edges of each cup. Transfer to a plate for serving.
Citrus-Marinated Olives
Recipe by Valerie Bertinelli via Food Network; yield: 4 to 6 servings
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
2 sprigs fresh thyme
1 garlic clove, thinly sliced
1 strip lemon zest, removed with a vegetable peeler
1 strip orange zest, removed with a vegetable peeler
Salt and pepper
1 cup Castelvetrano olives
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon orange juice
Heat the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the red pepper flakes, thyme, garlic, lemon zest, orange zest, salt and pepper to taste and cook, stirring occasionally, until garlic is pale golden, about 2 minutes. Stir in olives and cook until just warm, 2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice and orange juice. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Keto Breaded Chicken Cutlets
Recipe from the Food Network; yield: 4 servings
1 1/2 pounds thinly sliced raw chicken breast
Salt
2 cups almond flour
3 large eggs
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Ghee (clarified butter, see note) or avocado oil, for frying
Lemon wedges, for serving
Note: To clarify butter, gently melt butter over medium-low heat. Carefully skim foam off top. Pour carefully into a container, stopping before any of the white solids on the bottom of the pan pour out. Store in an airtight container for up to 9 months or in a refrigerator for up to 1 year.
If any of the chicken slices are thicker than 1/4 inch, pound them out one at a time between 2 sheets of plastic wrap or waxed paper with a meat mallet to a thickness of 1/4 inch.
Sprinkle chicken all over with salt and just enough of the almond flour to lightly coat both sides.
Beat the eggs in a wide, shallow bowl. In another wide, shallow bowl, mix the remaining almond flour with the Parmesan, paprika and garlic powder.
Dip chicken in the eggs to coat. Let the excess drip off, then coat thoroughly in the almond flour mixture. Place on a plate and repeat with the remaining chicken.
Heat 1/4 inch of ghee or avocado oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking. Add half the chicken and cook until golden on one side, about 3 minutes. Flip and cook until golden on the other side, another 3 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and repeat with the remaining chicken, adding more ghee or oil of needed. Serve with lemon wedges.

Many eyebrows were raised when the 60-year-old showed off his improved physique on holiday in Barbados last December, proudly sporting his new lean figure.
Simon has brushed the claims aside he had undergone surgery and explained he got a wake-up call after falling down the stairs in his London home in October 2017.

He told Closer that he would not have anything to hide if he did go under the knife.
Everyone thinks I've had a gastric band, but if I'd had one, I'd just come out and say it," Simon said.
"I went on a diet and I cut out all the things you shouldn't eat, and that was it."
Describing the foods he east now, Simon continued: "Pretty much all the things I loved, I can't eat. I eat loads of vegetables and salads, and I drink this great [light] beer. The most dramatic period was the first month, when most of the weight comes off.

"You look at yourself and think, 'Wow'. But I'm really happy now and I have loads more energy," he added.
Simon began a new health regime in April 2019, deciding to go Vegan and lost an incredible 20lbs as a result.
He used to consume his favourite foods like sausage rolls, hamburgers and his favourite jam tarts, which were made by his personal chefs.
But ahead of turning 60 and with the terrible fall in the back of his mind, Cowell wanted to change his ways.

The judge also wanted to lose weight to keep up with his son, as he did not have his first and only child until later in his life.
"[Losing weight] makes you feel better - it genuinely does. And Eric is just amazing!," he told Closer.
"He has just FaceTimed me and he's learned on the phone how to be an alien, a monster and a dragon, so I don't know who I'm talking to half the time, but he's just great."
He has also decreased the amount of sugar he eats, which helped improve his sleep and boost his energy levels.
He also mentioned that the food he eats is tasty, saying last month: "The food I eat is really healthy and I don't find it tedious. If its boring you won't stick to it."

With the New Year comes new food trends and products hitting supermarkets shelves. According to Neilson ratings, American believe eating healthy is 55% easier than exercising regularly. I have to wonder then why one in three adultsand one in six childrenare considered obese in the United States. Americans really want to eat healthy but its easier said than done.
Enter the plant-based lifestyle. Plant-based eating focuses on fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains and beans. You dont have to be a vegetarian or vegan, you simply commit to adding more of these plant-based foods to each meal.
Studies have shown that a plant-based diet can aid in weight loss and weight loss maintenance, as well as reducing your risk of developing heart disease, certain cancers, cognitive decline and diabetes.
As plant-based diets continue to grow in popularity, so have products in supermarkets. Read on for my picks on what to add to next weeks grocery list.

If the texture of bean-based pastas arent your cup of tea, try mixing it withregular pasta or just add vegetables to your regular pasta serving.
Green and yellow peas are a protein powerhouse and are being used in a variety of different food items. Pea protein powder or pea protein isolate is naturally vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and allergy-free. During the process of producing pea protein, most of the fiber and starch of the peas are removed, making it easy on your gut (easy to digest).
There are a variety of ways to incorporate pea protein into your diet. The most obvious is adding it into your pre- or post-workout smoothie. It has the same amount of high-quality essential amino acids and protein as whey protein. Another added benefit is that it is high in iron, which promotes heart health.
You might also see pea protein, dairy-free milk alternatives sharing the shelf with almond milk, and added to chips and crackers to increase their protein content.
You read that right. Im saving the best for last. Dessert hummus comes in variety of flavors like chocolate, cake batter and peanut butter. Its a lot like regular hummus in that its made with chickpeas, but it also contains ingredients like cocoa powder, vanilla and sugar.
I have brought dessert hummus to parties and asked people what they thought they were eatingmany have no clue that its hummus! I recommend serving it with fresh fruit or whole-grain pretzels, or even using it as frosting for cupcakes. Its the perfect mix of fiber, protein and sugar. Just be sure to check those ingredient labels as some brands contain more sugar than others.

8 oz. dry edamame pasta
8 oz. dry chickpea or lentil pasta
1 cup sliced black olives
1 cup chickpeas
1 12 oz. package mixed frozen broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and red cabbage
16 oz. light Italian dressing
16 oz. balsamic vinaigrette
1 cup grated parmesan cheese (optional)
2 cups feta cheese + cup for garnish (optional)
1. Cook pasta according to the package directions.
2. In a large bowl, mix pasta, veggies, cabbage, olives and cheeses.
3. Mix dressings in a small bowl, pour over salad and stir until well combined.
4. Spring cup feta cheese on top.

Weight loss tips: How to lose weight by fasting, according to this guy who lost 45 kg in 23 weeks – GQ India
We are all unique beings, whose bodies react differently to different weight loss methods. Some burn tremendous amounts of fat by following the keto diet, some have to workout twice a day in the gym, some just lose inches by indulging in bare-minimum cardio routine and some like 38-year-old Vijay N Dixit lose weight by fasting.
Now, although we wouldnt advocate relying on just a stringent fasting routine to lose weight, Dixits journey (from 112 kg to 67 kg) will give you a very unique insight into how you need to approach fitness for yourself and create a weight loss routine that works for you.
Says Dixit, my journey started with me having no clue about the body, nutrition, or in fact even knowing what the word "health" meant. I began with what I knew, which was, Calories In - Calories Out = Weight lost/gained. So, I cut my calories to almost nothing. I lived on salads, fruits, almost all raw or semi-cooked. Then, after successfully dropping (a recorded) 14 kg in 45 days, I had a little tryst with what I later found out is called "hypoglycemia" aka low blood sugar. This is when my real story began and I started what I love doing: reading.
I read incessantly to understand two things. One: the human body and its relationship with food. Two: nutrition and its relationship with food. The crux of my research was based on the logic that good food nourishes the body and by virtue of that, health should be an outcome.
Through my reading, I found out about "intermittent fasting", and the consequences of it on the body. It kind of added up to being exactly what I was looking for. I live on the hills, in a small town, and I don't think there is a gym here, maybe, but anyway, I am too lazy to workout etc., and the concept of fasting seemed the most convenient, as I now call it "the lazy man's hack", to my lifestyle.

So what I started doing was - I continued following a restricted calorie diet and clubbed it with a 12:12 intermittent fasting routine. And slowly, yet frequently, I reduced my eating window by half or an hour (in every week or ten days), till I came to a point where I was eating for 4 hours a day and fasting for 20 hours.

For the past 14 months (I started my weight loss on 12 June 2018), I have been eating for less than 4 hours a day, on most days. I make exceptions when there are social engagements.
Apart from fasting, I only walked 6 kms (average over 18 months) on the hills. I sometimes do pull-ups in my kitchen loft - 5 or 6 just to get my muscles up.
For most parts, I stuck to a severe calorie deficit in the early days, but as days progressed, and learning (by reading), I tried to (and still do) maintain a very diverse diet. I have become mostly-vegetarian over the past 6 months. My personal lessons have been that non-vegetarian sources of proteins are quite overrated, but those that disagree can disagree. I eat an assortment of grains (different types of rice, millets, wheats), fruits (mostly the seasonal ones), vegetables, paneer, mushrooms, etc. and also ice cream once in a while.
I weigh about 72 kg now. The lowest I took my weight to was 67 kg, and that was in 23 weeks from when I started my weight loss journey. It has been 13 months since then and I have managed to never go beyond 74 kg through this time.
For starters, make these basic changes to make fasting easier for your body:

Remove all processed and refined ingredients from your diet.

Try and keep your eating window as little as possible - 8 hours or less for best results.

On This Is Us, Chrissy Metz captured viewers from the first time her character Kate stepped on the scale.
Off came not just the clothes but the jewelry too, in a scene that so many dieters know as the hold your breath weigh-in before the diet starts sequence.
Not only has Kate shown viewers every aspect of being overweight, from childhood (played by Mackenzie Hancsicsak) to teen (portrayed by Hannah Zeile) to adult (handled by Metz), but the This Is Us character also has revealed how her weight is tied in with her romantic fate.
And in the latest of those inevitable twists and turns on This Is Us, some think Kates and Tobys future may be linked to his recent weight loss along with her failure to take off the pounds.
But that possibility doesnt answer the big question: Could Chrissys lack of weight loss actually change what the writers have planned for the final shows?
Fan theories have come up with some intriguing possibilities.
Chrissy, who plays the adult Kate on This Is Us, hasnt held back when it comes to her honesty about her weight.
Soon after the show first began, however, Metz sparked controversy when she said in an interview that her This Is Us contract required her to lose weight. The actress subsequently clarified what she had meant in a People interview.
Initially, Chrissy said that she, like Kate, would be on a path to weight loss. She called that plan a conversation she had with producers, adding its in my contract to shed pounds in a healthy manner.
But the controversy over the idea of a contract requiring an actress to shed pounds to hold onto her role resulted in Metz rephrasing her remarks.
It wasnt mandated in the contract, and I probably if I ever said the word contract, I didnt mean it in that way, commented Chrissy. I was pitched that the trajectory of Kate is that shes going to lose weight. That is who and whats going on.
Metz emphasized that she felt positive about the fact that if her character is shown getting slim, she needs to lose weight in real life.
Why not have a motivation beyond me to get to a healthy weight? Chrissy asserted. Every actor does that. Were chameleons. We change, we grow as an actor you lose weight, you gain weight, you change your hair or whatever.
However, she admitted being somewhat surprised by the way that her size has stolen the spotlight.
Its like all people want to talk about is my weight, pointed out Metz. I was like, Okay, this is weird.'
Were all the way into Season 4, and its increasingly starting to look as if Tobys weight loss success and Kates lack thereof could be the straw that broke the This Is Us romances back.
When This Is Us first showed Kate and Tobys meet-cute history, the two first crossed paths in a support group that focused on weight loss. Kate made it clear at the time that she was determined to shed pounds, getting Toby to agree to hop on board the weight loss express with her.
However, that plan changed dramatically from showing Kate as the leader of the diet pack and Toby as her obedient follower.
Instead, following the stressful discovery that the couples son Jack had a disability, Kate returned to relying on food to comfort her. At the same time, Toby discovered CrossFit and lunged his way into the intense workouts, complete with a deep dive into the accompanying diet as well.
And the big question that looms over the show How can This Is Us handle the rumored original plan to show Kate triumphantly losing weight if the actress playing the adult character remains overweight?
Some on Reddit have been blunt about their views concerning Chrissy Metz, with one This Is Us fan asking if Metz was the wrong choice to play Kate.
But one Reddit user came up with a solution for keeping the plot of Kate getting slim the same if Chrissy doesnt lose weight.
If the writers wanted to show Kate has lost weight, and Chrissy is unable to do so in time for the scene, would you accept Hannah [Zeile] being aged up with Chrissys voice? asked the commentator.
The reference to the actress playing the teen comes at the same time as a critical plot point in teen Kates life. The next show will focus on Kate, potentially showing exactly what happened with the boyfriend that resulted in her turning to food so much.
However, the question of whether it would be disrespectful to Chrissy to use a different actress to portray weight loss remains unanswered.

A FULL-time working mum from Runcorn who lost almost three stone has opened her own fitness workshop in a bid to help others.
Lianne Seddon opened a new WW Wellness Workshop after her own wellness journey helped her achieve a positive mindset and lose 36 and a half pounds.
Her wellness journey in June 2017. She said: "I hated seeing myself in photos and knew that I didn't want another holiday where I was avoiding photos from the neck down.
"I joined the week after we got back from Spain in June 2017 but although I lost a stone by the September I then hovered for a good few months up and down with the same few pounds.
"It wasn't until April time last year I decided enough was enough and our Florida holiday was looming in November.
"When we went to Florida I had lost 35lbs and achieved my ultimate goal of not hiding from the camera.
"Lianne loved the programme that much she wanted to become a coach to help others reach their wellness goals."
Now, Lianne is bringing the leading programme to help those in the Runcorn & Widnes area.
Lianne said: "Now I am more aware of what I'm eating and I absolutely make smarter choices, I also know that having one bad meal or day won't affect my overall end goal.
"I've also started to exercise more as it really helps me lose inches and its not just about that number on the scales with WW"
When asked what Lianne likes about being a coach she said: "I love that I can relate to other people and inspire them to make the changes in their life that they want, whether this be to lose weight, get healthy or exercise.
"Because I am on the plan I am living proof it works and I am literally living the plan weekly with my members, I still go and get weighed and know how they feel.

Save Money: Lose Weight is back on our screens this January to help the reported 29 million of us who will attempt a diet this year.
Chris Bavin and Sian Williams are once again sifting through all the fads to find out which diets actually have a bang for your buck with their pounds for lbs challenge.
Episode 2 (Thursday, January 30th) introduced viewers to a plan which allows you to eat whatever you like, but the low-calorie equivalents, but it was the dieting app which really captured everyones attention.
So, what is the Noom app? How does the diet work?

Although Noom was created back in 2008, it hasnt really picked up interest until the previous years where it has rocketed.
Aimed at millennials, Noom aims to transform peoples lives for the better, helping them either lose weight or obtain a healthier lifestyle.
Whether youre seeking to drastically lose weight or just wanting to learn to cook healthier meals and lead a healthier, happier lifestyle, this is the app for you.
It was designed with behavioural psychologists and nutritionists to help change lifestyles through monitoring patterned eating.
However, some may be put off buying the app, as it is one of the more expensive diet plans on the market coming in at 40 per month. Thats 480 per year!
The app takes in information about you, your weight and lifestyle, plus about how much andwhatyou tend to eat in your day-to-day. You can either fill out this initial questionnaire on their website or when you first download the app, via Apples App Store or Google Play Store.
It will then tailor an eating plan for you, helping you reach your target weight over the course of a set period. Recipes are also stored on Noom, which will be suggested for your meals every day.
Ann episode 2s guinea pig was restricted to just 1,200 calories per day.
The app allows you to eat what you want, following its guidelines. This is based around a colour coding system: red foods in minimal amounts, amber in moderation, and green is all you can eat!

If you were wondering whether the Noom diet was worth the investment, it sure is!After just 28 days, Ann had lost a mega 1 stone 3 lbs.
The Express also reported that 77% of Noom users said they lost weight while using the app.
Although this diet still comes in at the most expensive they have looked at so far on the show, that doesnt make it any less effective.
