But too much of any oil can add extra calories to your diet, putting you at risk of several health problems, and not just unhealthy weight gain. Thats because cooking oils - whether its from animal, vegetable, nut or seed - have high-fat content and its imperative that you cook your food with minimal oil while also ensuring that you opt for healthier options like olive oil and avocado oil, etc. Swapping saturated fats with unsaturated fats can lower your risk of high cholesterol, hypertension, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, among many others. Consuming good fats in moderation can also help you lose weight.

Perhaps, making healthier food choices doesnt mean you need to give up your favourite foods or eliminate oil from your diet. There are a number of ways to make your recipes healthier and tastier without adding excessive amounts of oil, fat, or salt. Wondering how to create healthy, delicious meals with minimum or no oil? Below are a few tips recommended by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to help you create a healthy diet while keeping oil and fats to a minimum:

Tip 1: Bake, grill or steam your food instead of frying it. This will also make your recipes look and taste great while retaining the nutrients.

Tip 2: Opt for snacks that are baked, roasted or steamed rather than fried or processed snacks, which are high in calories and trans fats linked to various health problems. Eating fried and processed foods on a regular basis will increase your risk of weight gain, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc.

Tip 3: The FSSAIs recommendations also ask to measure oil using a teaspoon each time when cooking. This will help you ensure that youre sticking to a fixed and appropriate quantity of oil while cooking or preparing meals.

Tip 4: It is recommended that you use a combination of healthy oils to ensure you get all essential nutrients - such as sunflower oil, ricebran oil, flaxseed oil, sesame oil, peanut oil, mustard oil, coconut oil, etc. These oils contain less amounts of saturated fats, but are loaded with essential fatty acids that improve your health in multiple ways.

Tip 5: One way to reduce your oil intake is to get clever in the kitchen - for instance, try roasting your favourite papad instead of frying it. Roasting is a very easy cooking method that improves the texture of and deepens the flavour profile of your food.

The FSSAI also suggests that you should buy and use only a fixed quantity of oil, and then gradually reducing the quantity you buy each time. Setting limits and sticking to them is a wise strategy to prevent consuming too much of anything. Most of your favourite recipes can be modified so they offer lower fat content, which is beneficial for your weight and overall health.

More Americans are Trying to Lose Weight Than Ever Before, Study Finds – Yahoo Lifestyle

There's a reason the aisles of your local grocery store are packed with keto snacks, plant-based meat alternatives, and other diet-centric foods. More Americans are dieting right now than ever before, according to a new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

An ongoing national survey has been asking Americans if they're on a diet for weight loss or other health reasons. Responses recorded between 2017 and 2018 revealed that 17% of participants were on a diet. That figure was up 3% over the previous 10 years. (Related: 21 Best Healthy Cooking Hacks of All Time.)

The obesity rate for the U.S. also rose from 34% to 42% during the same time period, according to the Associated Press. Twenty-three percent of obese Americans said they were dieting, according to the report. Among respondents, 18% of non-Hispanic white Americans, 16% of Hispanic Americans, and 15% of Asian and Black Americans said they were dieting. In addition, more women than men and more Americans 40 years old and over reported being on a diet.

Keto is officially America's favorite diet this year, according to an analysis released over the summer. Searches for diets like GOLO, intermittent fasting, noom, and Sirtfood are popular on Google, too. If you're on a diet, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic may not have slowed down your goals. Sales of vegetarian, vegan, plant-based, paleo, and keto products flew off the shelves in 2020 as more people shifting to cooking at home.

Semaglutide 2.4 mg injection demonstrated significant weight loss versus placebo when added to intensive behavioral therapy – PRNewswire

PLAINSBORO, N.J., Nov. 5, 2020 /PRNewswire/ --Results of a phase 3a trial showed that the investigational drug semaglutide 2.4 mg once-weekly subcutaneous (sc) as an adjunct to intensive behavioral therapy (IBT) demonstrated significantly more body weight loss compared to placebo plus IBT.i The STEP 3 phase 3a trial investigated the efficacy and safety of once-weekly semaglutide 2.4 mg after 68 weeks of treatment compared with placebo both as adjunct to IBTi, which consisted of 30 counselling sessions with a registered dietitian over 68 weeks, plus a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.Trial participants were adults with obesity (BMI 30 kg/m2) or overweight (BMI 27 kg/ m2) with at least one weight-related comorbidity and without type 2 diabetes (HbA1c<6.5%). An oral presentation of the new data was given today at the ObesityWeek 2020 interactive congress.1

Two distinct statistical approaches to evaluating the effects of semaglutide 2.4 mg were used in the STEP 3 trial: a primary statistical approach that assessed the treatment effect regardless of adherence or use of other anti-obesity therapies, and a secondary statistical approach that evaluated the treatment effect if all participants in the trial adhered to the randomized treatment and did not initiate any other treatment methods.

Based on the primary statistical approach, people treatedwith once-weekly semaglutide 2.4 mg in addition to IBT lost an average of 16.0% of their body weight from baseline, compared with 5.7% for those who received placebo plus IBT (estimated treatment difference: -10.3 [95% confidence interval: -12.0, -8.6]; p<0.0001). Furthermore, more people treated with semaglutide 2.4 mg plus IBT lost greater than or equal to 5% of their body weight compared to placebo plus IBT (87% vs 48%, respectively).

"Given the multiple weight-loss related challenges faced by people with obesity, patients and practitioners alike need additional medical therapies to support lifestyle interventions, such as IBT, which is a highly intensive weight loss approach," said Professor Tom Wadden, lead investigator and Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. "I'm encouraged to see the significant additional weight loss and improvements in certain cardiometabolic disease risk factors achieved with semaglutide 2.4 mg when added to IBT."

A weight loss of greater than or equal to 10%, 15% and 20% was achieved by 75%, 56% and 36% of those treated with semaglutide 2.4 mg plus IBT respectively, compared to 27%, 13% and 4% of those treated with placebo plus IBT.1In this trial, semaglutide 2.4 mg plus IBT also demonstrated greater improvements in cardiometabolic risk factors, including waist circumference (-14.6 vs. -6.3 cm) and systolic blood pressure (-5.6 vs. -1.6 mmHg), compared to placebo plus IBT.1

When evaluating the effects of treatment based on the secondary statistical approach, people treated with semaglutide 2.4 mg plus IBT achieved an average weight loss of 17.6%, compared to 5.0% with placebo plus IBT. Additionally, 90% of those who received semaglutide 2.4 mg plus IBT achieved a weight loss of 5% or more after 68 weeks, compared to 50% with placebo plus IBT.1

"Obesity can have a direct impact on health and is linked to many weight-related diseases. There is an unmet medical need to develop treatment options to help people lose weight and keep it off," said Mads Krogsgaard Thomsen, executive vice president and chief scientific officer of Novo Nordisk. "We are delighted with the first full phase 3 results from the STEP trial program, demonstrating that the addition of semaglutide 2.4 mg to IBT can almost triple the magnitude of weight loss achieved with IBT alone, making semaglutide 2.4 mg a meaningful potential future treatment option for people with obesity."

The proportion of participants reporting adverse events was similar in the semaglutide 2.4 mg and placebo groups (95.8% and 96.1%, respectively). The most common adverse events among people treated with semaglutide 2.4 mg were gastrointestinal events (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation), reported by 82.8% of participants in the semaglutide 2.4 mg group and 63.2% in the placebo group.1Serious adverse events were reported in 9.1% and 2.9% of participants in the semaglutide 2.4 mg and placebo groups, respectively. The higher rate for semaglutide 2.4 mg was driven by more gallbladder-related serious events and single events unrelated to the treatment.

About semaglutide 2.4 mg for weight managementOnce-weekly sc semaglutide 2.4 mg is being investigated by Novo Nordisk as a potential treatment option for obesity. Semaglutide is an analogue of the human glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) hormone, with 94% similarity to the native human GLP-1 molecule.2,3 It induces weight loss by reducing hunger, increasing feelings of fullness and thereby helping people eat less and reduce their food cravings.2

About STEP 3 and the STEP clinical trial programSTEP 3 was a 68-week phase 3a randomized, double-blind, multicenter, placebo-controlled trial that compared the safety and efficacy of once-weekly sc semaglutide 2.4 mg with placebo when used as an adjunct to IBT (defined as increased physical activity, behavioral support and reduced calorie diet). The trial randomized (in a 2:1 ratio) 611 adults with obesity (BMI 30 kg/m2) or overweight (BMI 27 kg/ m2) with at least one weight-related comorbidity and without type 2 diabetes (HbA1c <6.5%). The primary endpoints of the trial were change in body weight (%) and proportion of participants who achieved greater than or equal to 5% weight loss, both assessed from baseline to the end of treatment (Week 68). Confirmatory secondary endpoints included: proportion of participants who achieved weight loss greater than or equal to 10% and 15%, and change in waist circumference, systolic blood pressure and physical functioning score on the 36-item Short Form Survey (SF-36), all assessed from baseline to the end of treatment (Week 68).4

STEP (Semaglutide Treatment Effect in People with obesity) is a phase 3 clinical development program with once-weekly sc semaglutide 2.4 mg in obesity. The global phase 3a program consists of four trials and has enrolled approximately 4,500 adults with overweight or obesity.5

According to Hollywood Life, her dramatic transformation is all thanks to trainer, Jono Castano Acero who told the outlet that he encourages clients to an "extra bit" of cardio every day to keep moving.

2020 Holiday Challenge centers on weight maintenance, not loss – The Coastland Times – The Coastland Times

Many Americans gain between one and five pounds each holiday season. It might not sound like much, yet most people never manage to lose those extra pounds.

Enter the 14th annual Eat Smart, Move More, Maintain, Dont Gain! Holiday Challenge. Instead of focusing on trying to lose weight, this free seven-week challenge provides strategies and resources to help maintain weight throughout the holiday season.

Maybe its time for a reset. How to be happy though miserable. – Houston Chronicle

In an old, old Bullwinkle cartoon, Boris Badenov (the original Russian troll) recites a poem called How to be Happy (Though Miserable), and if any invitation to self-help sums up 2020 better, I dont know what it is.

Remember March and April? The toilet paper scavenger hunts were kind of exciting. Mastering the art of sourdough seemed like a cool new skill. Wearing T-shirts during work hours felt so transgressive and delicious.

Its not April anymore, and the fresh-bread smell wore off ages ago. We are not at the end of this slog. Were lucky if were at the middle. Sure, weve worked out how to grocery shop, how to walk in the woods, when to break out the Purell, how to FaceTime and Zoom.

But as Boris Badenov foretold, were still miserable and just so tuckered out from hunkering down. Maybe its time for a reset.

Bear in mind that if you are working from home and monitoring school-age children, Ive got nothing for you but pity and dread. Id be on my way to Mars, with or without a rocket ship.

Nevertheless, your life can be a bit better right where you are. I promise I wont tell you to eat better, exercise, lose weight, volunteer or quit your bad habits. Youre all grown up, and you can choose your own adventure. I also wont swamp you with mottos such as Have an attitude of gratitude, or anything else you can buy inscribed on a wooden plaque at Buc-ees.

So here are some purely subjective tips. They work for me.

Edit your social media. Ive pared my Twitter account down to cute animals, paleontology, local news, friends, astrology and comedians. As a result, I actually enjoy Twitter. So its OK to unfollow your cranky cousins on Facebook, cancel your too-happy-by-half ex-classmates on Instagram and never, ever figure out whatever the hell TikTok is.

Cultivate a healthy obsession (or two). Trust me on this one. The distinction between a diversion and an obsession is crucial. A diversion say, Netflix takes your mind off your current circumstance, but when you resurface, nothing has changed. A healthy obsession (and stalking an ex is not healthy) fundamentally restocks your brain, gives you new juice. Take a cue from the movie Julie & Julia and cook your way through a famous collection of recipes. Become a Prince completist. Collect rocks to construct a scale-model Stonehenge in your backyard. Take up serious birding its easy to find an online ornithology course. In the words of the Renaissance philosopher Michel de Montaigne, Obsession is the wellspring of genius and madness. Pick genius.

Build the ridiculous into your routine. If no one is watching, no one knows you eat a macaron at precisely 10 a.m. every day. Or that each of your toenails is painted a different color. Or that you have an extensive collection of silly socks. (All right, if you follow me on Facebook you know this.) Or that you sing Malvina Reynolds songs to your cat. Frankly, nothing precludes you from doing silly things for the rest of your life.

This last tip is one I heard on talk radio, yet is nevertheless my favorite.

Figure out who you were as a child, and do that. Were you the kid who spent her childhood climbing trees? Surely Houston has some live oaks that can hold you. Did you construct, write and produce elaborate sock-puppet plays? Bet you have a kid in your life who would love to see one of your productions on FaceTime. When I thought about my own childhood, I remembered that I always had some kind of science or art project going, probably turning my mothers kitchen upside down in the process. Well, its my kitchen now, and crazy windowsill experiments or making dyes out of onion skins still give me pleasure. Never again in this life will you have the time to rediscover your old young self; seize the chance.

So there you go. The only sure thing is that time passes, and someday, God willing, it will be 2021, and then 2030. Boris Badenov recited his prophetic poem fully 60 years ago.

You may well ask what Badenovs advice was. Predictably, it was terrible. Do something to someone today, he said.

If theres one thing we know in 2020, its that you shouldnt take life advice from Russian trolls.

Why Uncertainty Freaks You Out

If youre like most people, uncertainty can cause you tremendous anxiety. Your brain is constantly updating your world, making judgments about what's safe and what isn't. To the human mind, uncertainty equals danger. If your brain doesn't know whats around the corner, it cant keep you out of harms way. It always assumes the worst, over-personalizes threats and jumps to conclusions. (Your brain will do almost anything for the sake of certainty). And youre hardwired to overestimate threats and underestimate your ability to handle themall in the name of survival.

Your brains hefty responsibility to keep you safe means it hates lifes inevitable uncertaintysulfuric acid for your lizard brain. Its why so many of us meltdown right before a big trip or why instability at work can cause a bigger toll on our health than actually losing a job. Its why even the most rational-minded adult might feel unsettled when they wonder who lurks underneath the clown makeup. When certainty is questioned, your lizard brain goes haywire, instantly kicking you in the pants in an attempt to spur you to action and get you to safety. Waiting for certainty can feel like torture by a million tiny cuts, and youre consumed with anxiety. Will I contact the coronavirus? Will the MRI reveal cancer? Will I get the job? Whos in the house when the alarm goes off, friend or foe? The ground beneath you opens up, threatening to swallow you, or so it feels. Your serenity is seriously screwedbut hey, at least youre safe, right?

Safety Can Limit Career Success

Safety doesnt equal success or happiness, though. Safety equals safety. Period. No matter what, the survival mind insists on knowing an outcome one way or another to take the edge off. Its more stressful wondering if youll get to your meeting on time than knowing youll be late. Its more anxiety-inducing to know youll divorce than being unsure of it. And its more fearful not knowing if youre going to get sacked than knowing for sure you lost your job. Research shows the brain even prefers physical pain to uncertainty. British researchers found that study participants who knew for sure they would receive a painful electric shock felt calmer and less agitated than those who were told they only had a 50% chance of getting the shock. No wonder you fight or flee when it doesnt know which way is up.

Unfortunately, though, while avoiding uncertainty may help you stay safe and sound, the cocoon your primitive brain constructs for you is a virtual prison. The same assumptions that keep you safe permeate every sphere of your life. They prevent you from growing and reaching your dreams. Youre led in the wrong direction, creating heartbreak and dissension, and wasting vast amounts of time and energy. You say you want to lose weight, but youre afraid of your inability, so you continue to overeat. You say you want to find your soul mate but find a reason to turn down every dating opportunity. You claim you want success, but refuse to explore the unknown.

6 Tips To Cope With Uncertainty

1. Surrender to the unknown. Dancing With The Stars champion, Julianne Hough, is a huge advocate of embracing uncertainty, especially during challenging times like the coronavirus pandemic. She told me she attributes it to her success and ultimate happiness:To embrace uncertainty, to surrender to the unknown, as hard as that may be, I believe thats where the magic happens. If we already know what we want, weve already set a limitation for ourselves. When you go into the unknown, you go into the light, the complete uncertainty and you have no idea, but thats when you can create ultimate possibility. So, embrace the unknown, embrace the presence of, I have no idea what tomorrow will hold, but I do have the power and control within myself to make a choice of who I am today.

2.Develop uncertainty tolerance. Despite your best efforts, things wont always go as planned. Expectations will go awry, unexpected events will blindside you, and you will experience disappointment and rejection. If uncertainty is unacceptable to you, you only amplify your fear and end up at war with yourself, resisting and arguing with life rather than living it. Notice what youve resisted that has kept you from reaching your dreams. Ask if youve tried to force, resist or cling to something or someone over which you have no control. Then consider accepting whatever youve worked hard to control, and challenge yourself to control your response to what you cant control. Take a deep breath, spread your arms, and imagine welcoming the unknown with an open heart, as you might a lantern guiding you in the darkness. See if youre able to accept the unknownno matter whatand use the unpredictable outcomes to cultivate a growth mindset and thrive fully into the person you were meant to be.

3.Look for the opportunity in the difficulty

Unchecked, your need for certainty can inadvertently siphon the joy out of your life as in the morning Sarah Elizabeth Malinak, an Asheville, North Carolina writer and photographer, said she had been working at her computer. When she got up and glanced out the window, she noticed everything was white. There'd been no snow in the forecast, she said. But there was snow covering everything and falling in the largest flakes I'd ever seen! My first response? A little panic. She went on to say that the uncertainty of how much snow might fall and the consequences thereafter were forefront in her mind. I quickly tallied up how much food we had on hand and the likelihood that my husband would get home safely within the hour. Then she found her suddenly making a U-turn as her thrive mind took over and began to celebrate the unexpected event: I saw the opportunity in the snow and got busy having fun taking pictures.

4.Keep An Unmade Mind

Your perspective is the most powerful thing you can control in a situation that is beyond your control. Fear, panic and worry are not preparation. They add insult to injuryanother layer of stress that can compromise the immune system and paradoxically make us even more stressed out. When your mind is already made up before each new experience, you become unteachable and can no longer receive insights. Unmaking your mind or emptying it of expectations opens you to receive the teachable moments in each new experience. Buddhists call it the beginners mindbeing open to many possibilities instead of closed to all but one. For every situation, there are numerous possible outcomes. By learning to be okay with maybe, you become more comfortable with uncertainty and open yourself to possibility.

5.Keep your focus on what you can control. When youre faced with uncertainty, focus on things around you that you can control. Dwell on positive aspects of your life where you can make a difference. Consider the personal resources at your fingertips, instead of the unknowns: staying healthy, getting ample sleep, exercising, meditating, eating well, and establishing strong social supports. Remind yourself how they provide an opportunity for you to stay grounded. When was the last time you soaked in a hot bath, meditated, or got a massage? Make a fifteen-minute appointment with yourself and schedule personal time so you have more to give and receive. Then, reach out to others, stay in touch with loved ones and volunteer to help when and where you can.

6.Frame unknowns as adventures instead of problems. Just as theres a fine line between good news/bad news, theres a fine line between excitement and terror. On autopilot, your lizard brain lures you into looking at unknowns as a threat or problem that needs solving. When you flip that perspective, you can frame the situation as an adventure or challenge. That outlook automatically expands your perspective and welcomes in possibilities and solutions instead of eclipsing them with problems. You feel excitement instead of fear. Studies show that this perspective shift makes you feel empowered and less anxious instead of victimized by uncertainty.
