Lose weight and build strength with this pro sportsman’s surprisingly easy workout – T3

Looking for a low impact, full body workout that will give you a core of steel without any equipment? This home workout circuit is provided by world U23 Cyclo-cross champ and Red Bull athlete, Tom Pidcock. Try it, then increase or decrease the amount of reps and/or rest time depending on how you find it.

Usually, nobody outside of road bike warriors, really wants to look like a pro cyclist but this workout will help build core strength and is quite easy to do, compared to cycling up a big mountain. It's a great addition to a sensible lockdown weight loss diet. Also, as long as you don't use it alongside a hardcore road bike workout, it will help you stay in shape, rather than giving you the usual cyclist physique, ie: incredibly sinewy legs, and an upper body like a small child.

Reps Complete this exercise for 20 reps (10 on each side)

Good for: improving core stability

To complete this exercise, extend the left arm and right leg out until your foot and fingertips are in line with your back. Tense your core to ensure you maintain good form and do not wobble. Hold this position for 5 seconds and return to resting position before repeating for the right arm and left leg. You should feel your core working and your lower back tense to maintain the position for 5 seconds.

Reps Complete 10 reps of this to stretch out your back and core

Good for: improve lower back flexibility and core strength

Maintaining in the same position as for the superman now arch your back as much as you can with your hands shoulder width apart directly under your shoulders and your knees directly beneath your hips, after holding that for a few seconds then tuck your back in a far as possible (lowering your tummy to the ground).

Reps (Complete 10 on each side) x 2

Good for: warming quads up

Explanation To warm the legs up for the session perform a step up on a small step, driving the knee of your free leg up as you transfer your weight onto the step. Perform all the reps on one leg before switching to the next.

Reps If you find it easier you can split longer planks into reps of 30s with 15s rest. Continue this until you can no longer maintain perfect form or complete a set time.

Good for: strengthening core

Starting with the most painful to get it out the way. Perform a plank for 30s, 1 ,2, 3, 4 or 5 mins depending on your ability. You want to try and last for as long as you can maintain good form, as soon as your bum rises or drops, or you start to wobble then you can relax for 15 seconds and try and finish your target time for the exercise with good form.

Reps/duration hold for 30 seconds and then release.

Good for: abdominal stretching, shoulder definition

to stretch your core out after this static effort, place your hands on the floor rather than elbows in a raised plank position and sink your hips into the ground lifting your head up and back as far as comfortable, you should feel a satisfying stretch on your whole core after the plank.

Reps Complete 12 squats for each side (24 total)

Good for: hamstring and quads

Explanation Place a resistance band around your knees (an innertube would also work) or if you struggle with the resistant band it can be done without. With your feet together step out to the left to just over shoulder width apart and squat down slowly. Keeping your weight backwards mainly on your heels and then push up with force springing back to a standing position without jumping and then bring your feet back together. Repeat for the right side. If you find the resistance band easy tighten it to create more resistance when you step out and in.

Reps (20 reps (10 on each side)) x 2

Good for: improving core strength and shoulder/hip mobility

Lie on your back with your legs at a 90-degree angle and hands directly above your shoulders. Slowly lower your left arm keeping it straight, above your head and at the same time your right leg straightening it until its a few inches off the ground. Hold this for 5 seconds and then return to the original position before repeating now with your right arm and left leg. During this you want to maintain control whilst your limbs move slowly, and make sure that your lower back is always touching the ground. As soon as you can feel it lift from the mat you have lost form and the exercise will be less effective so take a rest and try again.

Reps (20 reps) x 2

Good for: increasing calf strength and stability

Explanation Standing straight with your feet shoulder width apart, lift your heels as far off the ground as possible standing on just the balls of your feet and then return back to a normal standing position and repeat. If you struggle with the balance you can stand just in front of a wall keeping your hand on it but not using it to aid the effort. You should feel the effort quite quickly in your calves. But try and maintain your maximum heel raise each time to exercise the whole muscle.

Good for: err...stretching the calves?

To loosen your calves after that exercise perform a quick stretch lower yourself into a lunge position with a straight back leg and push your hands against a wall. Placing most of your weight through your back leg you should feel the calf and hamstring start to stretch. Hold for 30s and then switch legs.

Reps Complete 15 reps on each leg

Good for: improving glute strength

this can be done without a resistant band and more reps can be performed. Lie on your side with the resistance band around your knees, the leg closest to the ground tucked back out of the way and providing stabilisation behind you. And your active leg straight in line with your body. Slowly raise your leg to a 45-degree angle and back down again until it nearly touches the ground before repeating.

Foam roller If you have a foam roller roll over your calves, hamstrings and quads stopping to work out any notts that you might find.

Stretching be careful not to over stretch during this period, relieve your body of tight spots but dont push it too hard as your muscles will be loose and warm making it easy to stretch them a little further than normal.

Glutes stretch

Tuck your right leg under your hip extending your left leg out behind you and using your hands to keep you balanced. Slowly lower your body weight onto your tucked in leg performing the stretch on your glute. Hold for 1 min each side.

Hamstring stretches

From a standing position lower your upper body over from your hips extending your arms trying to get close to your toes whilst maintaining straight legs. Hold for one minute.

If you are doing more than one circuit, then you can repeat without completing the stretches and do them at the end of the session. There are many more exercises that are beneficial to a cyclist, but these are good starting points to maintain some strength and explosive power during lockdown.

Psilocybin: An Effective Treatment for Weight Loss and Food Craving? – Yahoo Finance

Houston, Texas--(Newsfile Corp. - May 19, 2020) - Psychedelics may soon alter the way we address mental and health issues.

That may be especially true when it comes to treating obesity, which has been recognized by the World Health Organization as a global epidemic, with at least 2.8 million people dying each year as a result. In addition, according to the World Health Organization, more than 1.9 billion adults, 18 years and older, are overweight. Of these over 650 million are obese.

Those are startling statistics. However, there may be a psychedelic solution.

Psilocybin Could Help Solve that Global Obesity Epidemic

One of the key psychedelics that may assist with treating obesity are psilocybin mushrooms, which can also assist with issues such as PTSD, depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, and even chronic pain.

Even Johns Hopkins Medicine's Center for Psychedelic and Consciousness Research, for example, is focusing on psychedelics, including psilocybin for the treatment of eating disorders.

Companies like Yield Growth Corp. (CSE: BOSS) (OTCQB: BOSQF) subsidiary NeonMind Biosciences Inc. are also nearing studies to confirm that is an effective treatment for weight loss and food craving. The goal of this study is to use preclinical models to confirm that psilocybin is an effective treatment for weight loss and food craving.

NeonMind will use models that have been widely adopted by the pharmaceutical industry to identify compounds with therapeutic efficacy. It plans to use results from this study as part of the requirements for a Health Canada clinical trial application to demonstrate potential efficacy and safety for novel compounds.

NeoMind Biosciences Ltd. Files U.S. for Patent

NeonMind also filed a U.S. provisional patent application to protect intellectual property relating to the use of compounds found in psychedelic mushrooms to lose weight.

NeonMind's pending patent includes the use of psilocybin to help with weight loss, reduce food cravings, counter compulsive eating, improve quality of diet, increase metabolism, treat diabetes, regulate blood glucose levels, and help reduce susceptibility to cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and other issues associated with diabetes.

The company hopes to tap into multi-billion-dollar market opportunities, including the $245 billion weight loss and management market, $64 billion cardiovascular disease treatments, the $156 billion depression market, and the $87 billion diabetes treatment market.

Vanderpump Rules’ Katie Maloney Shares What She Ate to Lose 25-Pounds, Says She and Tom Are Ready for a Baby – Reality Blurb

Katie Maloney is opening up about how she dropped 25 pounds.

After debuting a stunning photo on Instagram weeks ago, which was taken amid the virtual reunion taping for season eight, the Vanderpump Rules star revealed what shes been eating to lose weight. She also offered an update on her plans to start a family with husband Tom Schwartz.

During a May 16 interview, Katie, 33, revealed that after embarking on a series of short-lived diets, she enlisted the help of a nutritionist.

I think dieting is not sustainable and its very short term and just sets you up for failure. So, now I just feel like I just know how to like eat for my body and metabolism, she explained to Hollywood Life. [And] my clothes are fitting again nicely, so thats cool.

Katie was able to lose weight without having to deprive herself. As for what shes been eating, she always has some type of egg dish for breakfast with healthy fats and some greens. Then, after breakfast, she enjoys tea or coffee with some healthy snacks, such as fruits, nuts, or cheese.

Im not a huge snacker, so its usually just going and popping a few things in my mouth just to fuel my body. Because that was the hardest part of it all, just training myself to eat more frequently than I normally would, Katie revealed, adding that she likes to eatgiant protein salads for lunch.

Having those vegetables that really fill you up, those slow carbs that your body takes a long time to break down. Thats nice eating more of those. And then at dinner, well make chicken with green beans or broccoli, or something just nice and easy on the side, she stated.

As she and Tom prepare to celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary in August, the Pump Rules couple has confirmed that they could beexpanding their family this year.

Im ready, Tom revealed toHollywood Life. Were ready. Little Baby Bubba!

Yeah! Katie agreed.

According to Katie, her desire to get healthy and lose weight was prompted by her plans to become a mom.

Its important, Katie said. Everything has to do with that because I mean, you want to be able to get your body in a good, healthy place and make sure that its working.

Dos and donts of intermittent fasting – WTOP

A guide to intermittent fasting, which proponents say is a safe and effective way to lose weight and improve your health.

Intermittent fasting involves cycling between periods of eating and fasting.

Proponents say intermittent fasting is a safe and effective way to lose weight and improve your health. Intermittent fasting is an umbrella term for an eating pattern that includes periods of fasting and non-fasting over defined periods of time, says Anna Kippen, a registered dietitian with the Cleveland Clinic. There are different forms of intermittent fasting.

One of the more popular approaches is called time-restricted eating. It calls for eating only during an eight-hour window, and fasting the remaining 16 hours of the day. It can help to decrease our calories but also allows our gut and hormones the ability to rest between meals during our fast,' Kippen says.

Another popular approach is the 5:2 plan, in which you follow a normal, healthy meal pattern for five days a week. The other two days a week, you consume only one meal of between 500 and 700 calories each day. This allows our body to rest as well as cut down on calories we consume as a whole throughout the week, Kippen says.

[See: Foods That Can Support Your Immunity.]

Research suggests that intermittent fasting is associated with weight loss, improved cholesterol, blood sugar control and decreased inflammation.

Preclinical and clinical trials have shown that intermittent fasting has broad-spectrum benefits for many health conditions, such as obesity, (diabetes), cardiovascular disease cancers and neurologic disorders, according to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2019. Clinical research has focused primarily on overweight young and middle-aged adults, the study says.

Whatever method of intermittent fasting you choose, its important to apply the same fundamental nutrition principles to intermittent fasting as to other healthy eating plans, says Ryan Maciel, a registered dietitian and head nutrition coach for elite athletes and organizations for Precision Nutrition. The company provides nutrition education and tools to health and fitness professionals and individual clients in 120 countries. Maciel is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

In fact, these (principles) may be even more critical since you are going for more extended periods without food, which can result in overeating for some people, Maciel says.

Here are principles you should adhere to if youre on an intermittent fasting regimen:

Consume minimally processed foods most of the time.

Eat a balance of lean protein, veggies, fruits, smart carbs and healthy fats.

Create flavorful, delicious meals that you enjoy.

Eat your meals slowly and mindfully, until youre satisfied.

Intermittent fasting diets dont mandate specific menus. However, adhering to good eating principles, there are certain types of foods its best to consume and avoid.

Here are three foods to eat on an intermittent fasting diet:

Lean proteins.

Fruits.

Vegetables.

Lean Proteins

Eating lean protein keeps you feeling full longer than consuming other foods and will help you maintain or build muscle, Maciel says.

Here are five lean, healthy protein sources:

Chicken breast.

Plain Greek yogurt.

Beans, peas and lentils.

Fish and shellfish.

Tofu and tempeh.

[See: 7 Proven Health Benefits of Blueberries.]

Fruits

As with any eating regimen, its important to consume highly nutritious foods while intermittent fasting. Fruits and vegetables are typically packed with vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients (plant nutrients) and fiber. These vitamins, minerals and nutrients can help lower cholesterol levels, control blood sugar levels and maintain bowel health. Another plus: fruits and vegetables are low in calories.

The governments 2015-20 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that for a 2,000-calorie-a-day diet, most people should eat about 2 cups of fruit on a daily basis.

Here are 10 healthy fruits to consume during intermittent fasting:

Apples.

Apricots.

Blueberries.

Blackberries.

Cherries.

Peaches.

Pears.

Plums.

Oranges.

Watermelon.

Vegetables

Vegetables can be an important part of an intermittent fasting regimen. Research shows that a diet rich in leafy greens may reduce your risk of heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, cancer, cognitive decline and more. The governments 2015-20 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that for a 2,000-calorie-a-day diet, most people should eat 2.5 cups of vegetables on a daily basis.

Here are six vegetables that would be good to consume as part of a healthy intermittent eating regimen:

Kale.

Spinach.

Chard.

Cabbage.

Collard greens.

Arugula.

Foods to Avoid

There are certain foods that arent good to consume as part of an intermittent fasting regimen. You should stay away from foods that are calorie-dense and contain high amounts of sugar, fat and salt. They wont fill you up after a fast, and can even make you hungrier, Maciel says. They also provide little to no nutrients.

To maintain a healthy intermittent eating regimen, avoid these foods:

Snack chips.

Microwave popcorn.

You should also avoid foods that are high in added sugar. Sugar that comes in processed foods and drinks is devoid of nutrition and amounts to sweet, empty calories, which is not what youre seeking if youre fasting intermittently, Maciel says. They will make you hungry since the sugar metabolizes super-fast, he says.

[See: The Best Diet for Your Personality.]

Sugary foods to avoid if youre engaging in intermittent fasting include:

Cookies.

Candy.

Cakes.

Barbecue sauce and ketchup.

Fruit juice.

Sugary cereals and granola.

8, the best version of intermittent fasting to lose weight fast – Code List

17/10/2019 05:00 Updated: 18/05/2020 19:59

Three out of every four spaniards considered that leads to a healthy dietaccording to the II Study of Health and lifestyle of Aegon. Taking into account that the overweight affects 40% of the population of our country, sure that the majority of them are still some regime for slimming. And if we must talk about the diet of the moment, perhaps we all have in mind the same: the intermittent fasting.

Though you probably already know, by the bombardment of information that you have received (from the media or celebrities in their social networks), if youre not familiar we will explain to you what it is: intermittent fasting is a type of eating plan that requires periods in which you eat and others that you can only consume water, coffee and tea. When you eat, you can eat what you want (always healthy), the reason why the plan works for many. In addition, it is simple and can be adjusted to the schedule of each one.

Ada Nuo

There are many formulas popular try this modern regime. What is the best? What are the benefits? What about side effects? Here youll learn about all

A new variant of this diet is catching on among those who want to lose weight: the method 16:8. It consists of fasting every day for 16 hours and restrict the period of food daily to eight. To understand this better, it involves not eating anything after dinner and skipping breakfast. Therefore, you can eat between noon and eight in the evening.

The question that many of you will be asking right now is how much weight you can make them lose the method 16:8. The answer is that it could be quite effectiveaccording to a study published in the journal Nutrition and Healthy Aging. Yes, it should be noted that the research is fairly limited, because the shown is only one of 23 people (men and women) who are obese, who followed this plan for 12 weeks.

This method consists of fasting every day for 16 hours and restrict the period of food daily to eight

In comparison with a group that had eaten normal, those who followed the 16:8 consumed 350 calories less per dayfor what youve lost, a quantity quite modest weight (around 3% of body weight), and also decreased your blood pressure. Even so, the study itself recognizes and insists on having in account the small population group in which it has been tested.

On the other hand, what is curious is that following this kind of eating plan can help the appetite control. A recent study in the journal Obesity points out that people who ate only during a period of six hours, in comparison with follow a normal schedule, they felt less hungry, despite the fact that both groups consumed the same amount of calories.

The actor has had to embody the role of Wolverine several times and it has used this diet: Put on and take off weight quickly it is a stress for the body. But unfortunately the actors we must do it continuously. Jackman noted that following intermittent fasting, it feels much more energy and strength; and that the practice even when you are preparing to play a role in a movie. I feel great with this regime. I have more energy and I sleep a lot better, says the actor to Daily Star.

Adrin Lpez

Galia Grainger certain that sugar is like cocaine. This Latvian and your hotel focused on the thinning are the latest sensation on the small screen

David Morton, a journalist of Mens Health, also wanted to try for ten days and thus to be able to recommend it or not. I skipped breakfast I normally do, even though coffee only if you can take. After, for lunch I made chicken with spinach and a piece of whole wheat bread. I went to the gym and to 15:00 I took sushi or a sandwich and I had dinner before 19:00, explains.

The opposite of what you thought, do not spend hunger during the 16 hours that you should not take anything. It is normal that in that time period, sleep eight of them, so that it is easier than you think. During the time of food, large quantities, make that your period of satiety is longer. After six days I have lost two pounds without changing what I eat, only the frequency and schedules. At the end of the challenge I had also lost 2% of fat. The only problem that I see to this plan is that it should adhere strictly to work, he concludes.

Mix of straw and hay proves effective in stripping weight off ponies – study – Horsetalk

Ponies enjoying life at Redwings Horse Sanctuary. Photo: Redwings Horse Sanctuary

An equal mix of barley hay and straw proved effective in encouraging winter weight loss among ponies, researchers in Britain report.

Researchers carried out the study, which involved 40 ponies, at the Redwings Horse Sanctuary.

The issue of obesity among British equids has been widely reported, with almost 30% of horses and ponies classified as overweight or obese in the country.

Native breeds, such as Welsh Cobs, Exmoor and Shetland ponies, seem particularly susceptible to weight gain and owners often struggle to get the weight off. Obesity is also linked to an imbalance in hormones, including insulin and cortisol, which can cause laminitis.

Dr Ruth Morgan and her colleagues, in a short communication in the journal Veterinary Record, point out that achieving weight loss among obese horses and ponies at risk of laminitis is an important but often challenging objective.

The study team hypothesised that supplementing poor winter pasture with a 50:50 mix of barley straw and hay and rather than hay alone would lead to weight loss in grazing ponies over winter.

The 40 overweight ponies were divided into two groups, one of which received the hay/straw mix, while the others received hay alone.

Over the study period, all 25 animals that received the hay/straw mix lost weight, dropping an average of 27kg. Among the 15 animals who received hay only, only three lost weight. Overall, the hay-only group gained weight, with an average of 6kg per animal.

This study suggests that straw is a cost-effective and low-energy roughage, which may be a useful alternative to hay alone when trying to induce weight loss in grazing equids over winter, the study team concluded.

There were no episodes of colic or laminitis during the study period in either group.

Redwings cares for a large population of native ponies, with their diets often supplemented with hay during the winter when the grass is poor.

However, its vets had concerns that some ponies were still gaining weight, putting them at a higher risk of laminitis in the spring and summer.

They joined with researchers at the University of Edinburgh to see if they could come up with a way to safely encourage weight loss in these ponies over winter, so any weight they gain on spring grass wouldnt have such an impact on their hormones.

While there is an anecdotal risk of colic in ponies who are fed straw, there were no such incidents recorded throughout the study.

Roxane Kirton, who undertook the study while working as a welfare veterinary surgeon at Redwings, said: This was a significant result for Redwings, and will hopefully be a useful study for all owners of native ponies, as we had previously found it very difficult to help this particular group lose weight.

With such a large horse population to care for, we cant and dont want to put every pony on a crash diet. Restricting food has such an impact on a horses behaviour and welfare, so we were keen to look at more creative, long-term management options.

When discussing human obesity, we often talk about making sustainable lifestyle changes and it shouldnt be any different for horses.

Dr Morgan, a researcher at the University of Edinburgh, added: Straw is much lower in calories than hay and it takes horses longer to eat it as it is less digestible.

Both of these features are great, both for weight loss and for the welfare of the horses, who like to eat for up to 20 hours a day.

Weve all watched horses scoff all their hay allowance in a short period of time and then stand watching us by the gate.

Straw occupies the horses for much longer but without increasing their calorie intake.

We would, however, warn owners to make sure their ponys teeth are in good shape before introducing straw as it does take more chewing this will also reduce the risk of colic. We hope the success of the trial means this research will go on to help even more ponies.

The study team comprised Morgan, Kirton, Miranda Carlotta Maria Dosi, Sarah Hallsworth and John Keen.

Weight loss surgery could be quick fix to reduce severe cases of coronavirus, docs say – The Sun

WEIGHT loss surgery could be a quick fix to reduce severe cases of the coronavirus, doctors said today.

Being overweight can increase the risk of other health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease, and patients with such issues have been found to be at a higher risk of contracting Covid-19.

3

Just yesterday the health secretary Matt Hancock said the government was bringing plans forward to tackle obesity.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Boris Johnson is also said to be preparing an intervention as he believes his weight was a key factor in how serious his illness had become when he had the virus.

Now the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS) has urged Mr Johnson to back an increase in bariatric operations.

Bariatric surgery can include various procedures and the aim of the surgery is to help the patient lose weight by altering the digestive system.

Some surgeries will make your stomach smaller, restricting your food intake in order to curb the amount you consume.

As type 2 diabetes is a risk factor for the virus, BOMSS has said there is evidence that the treatment can aid weight loss within 12 weeks and reverse type 2 diabetes.

The society has already produced a number of guides to help people stay active, as bariatric surgery is one procedure that has ceased since the Covid-19 outbreak.

In a letter to Mr Johnson BOMSS said: Bariatric surgery is often viewed as a quick-fix solution... precisely what is needed if we are to avoid needless suffering, ICU admission and death in patients with obesity who subsequently become infected with.

In the UK bariatric surgery has been stopped for up to six months in order to help the NHS cope with the virus.

So far in the UK over 34,000 people have died from the virus and Mr Johnson is believed to have become convinced that his weight was a key factor in the severity of his illness.

On entering hospital he is said to have weighed over 17 stone.

President Professor David Kerrigan said: "Bariatric surgery may be unpopular with health planners who hope that our obesity epidemic will be resolved through obesity prevention programmes; but important though these are, they do nothing to help to two million UK adults who could benefit from surgery according to NICE.

"They require treatment not prevention and as many have repeatedly failed to benefit from diet and exercise programmes we should consider the alternative of surgery, a safe treatment the benefits of which are rapidly realised by the patient."

When it comes to catching the virus, experts have said that excess body fat matters more than other underlying health conditions.

A study from New York, one of the worst-hit cities in the world, suggested that obesity was the second strongest predictor over whether or not a patient with the virus would need critical care.

This is while other data from previous influenza type illnesses found that more people died if they were overweight.

In 2009, 51 per cent of Californians who died from H1N1 Influenza were obese.

Currently in the UK almost 6,000 bariatric operations are performed every year, helping people to control their weight.

The NHS has however stated that bariatric surgery is no substitute for prevention but admitted that there are concerns around restarting elective surgery.
