He then went on to drop a further stone after becoming self-conscious after watching himself on a high-definition screen.

The chef first starting shaping up during his intense Strictly training.
James weighed 19st 7lb and managed to dance off five stone with the tough exercise regime.
This then made him more aware of his lifestyle and stayed motivated to stay fit and healthy following the show.
Being in the public eye, pressures from comments on social media and seeing himself on the TV led to him losing more weight.
He apparently made changes to his diet to help stay slim, including cutting out butter and cutting back on fatty foods.
The chef also makes sure he stays active to keep the weight off.

James told the Daily Mail: "I just think it's a lifestyle thing and also looking at yourself on TV...
"You get critical of yourself. You kind of watch and go, 'Oh God there's a bit of a chin happening there'.
"And everybody's TVs are bigger now. Before you used to watch TV on a small one and now they're massive."

He opened up about his weight during an interview on Loose Women - when asked whether his mum was critical of his looks when she watched him on TV, he replied: "100 per cent, hence I'm wearing a jacket!
"Weight is quite a big issue.

Quinoa (Photo Credits: Pixabay)
Most of us consider weight loss an impossible task and lose hope without giving any effort. One must have the will power, dedication to lose weight, which in turn helps the individual lead a healthy lifestyle. Good eating habits play a crucial role, where good foods should be selected to make your meal nutritious. One such food item is quinoa that can help in improving health in many ways. In this week's weight loss tip, we will discuss how quinoa can help to lose weight.Health Benefits of Quinoa: Why this High-Protein Superfood is Important for Vegans & Vegetarians.
As per United States Department of Agriculture, 185 gm of cooked quinoa consist of 8.14 gm protein, 3.55 gm fat and 39.41 gm carbohydrate. Many of youmay not be aware of the factthat quinoa is a complete source of protein as it contains all essential nine amino acids that our body require to function well. Quinoa is largely available in two kinds: red and white. Quinoa is considered as pseudocereal or pseudo-grain and it can be cooked like rice.Weight Loss Tip of the Week: How to Use Celery to Lose Weight (Watch Video)
Apart from protein, quinoa also contains monounsaturated fats, potassium, phosphorus, copper, zinc, vitamin E and B6 that are good for the body. Since this pseudocereal is high in protein, it gives rise to satiety by regulating hunger hormone ghrelin to check cravings. This helps the person to avoid over-eating and play a big hand in weight loss. Also, quinoa is much higher in fibre than any other grain, which again keeps the body full for a longer time. Quinoa is also low in glycemic index value, this thereby helps in slow digestion and curb hunger.
Irrespective of whether you are vegan, vegetarian or non-vegetarian, you should consider including quinoa in your diet for a healthy body. Apart from adding this healthy pseudo-grain in your meal, also take out time for some exercise and avoid refined sugar, processed food for achieving a good body.

Weed and weight: Why are cannabis consumers slimmer? – Leafly
Diet. Detox. Paleo. Parisian. Whatever you want to call it, nearly half of Canadians are following some sort of food plan to lose weight, according to a recent national poll.
Whether for health or aesthetic reasons (or a bit of both), the desire to slim down feeds billions of dollars into the weight loss industry every year. And yet, as studies keep telling us, results are almost never permanent. Its enough to make the diet-weary roll a fat one and forget itwhich, coincidentally, may be an effective slimming strategy in itself.
Dr. Stephen Glazer, chief medical officer at CannaWay Clinic and bariatric expert, says while research is still in its infancy, studies suggest the endocannabinoid system contributes significantly to both obesity and metabolic disorders.
Simply put, the endocannabinoid system is a network of cellular receptors in the body that help keep our system in balance. It is the CB1 receptors within the endocannabinoid system that interact with THC, leaving us feeling euphoric (or high).
Glazer says these same CB1 receptors play a large role in energy uptake, storage, and conservation. When this receptor is activated by THC, either through ingestion or inhalation, it heightens our taste and smell pathways and activates our brains appetite centre, colloquially known as the munchies. This is why he says his patients at CannaWay receiving chemotherapy can benefit from medical cannabis to help them rebuild a healthy appetite.
But arent we talking about losing weight? Yes.
As it turns out, Glazer says new research looking at the average Western diet, which tends to be high in omega-6-fatty-acids and low in omega-3-fatty-acids, points to chronic and excessive stimulation of the CB1 receptors.
To put it in perspective, the ideal omega-6 to omega-3 ratio for the human body is 3:1. But in the average Western diet, this can be as high as 20:1. Overactive CB1 receptors could be throwing the entire endocannabinoid system off balance.
In other words, the system that keeps our bodies in balance is itself out of balance, thanks to the foods were eating.
While it seems counterintuitive that something responsible for a food frenzy can also help you shed pounds, research suggests regularly activating CB1 with cannabis can help calm this overstimulated receptor over the long term, a phenomenon called down-regulation.
Glazer says one study in particular showed long term, regular cannabis is linked to lower body mass index (BMI) and obesity rates. This is an exciting development, in specific relation to the long-lasting down-regulation of CB1, which may suppress appetite while increasing calories burnt.
But its not just THC at play when it comes to hunger, or lack thereof. Glazer says another cannabinoid, called THCV, may actually block the effect of THC on CB1 receptors, potentially suppressing appetite. He cites more recent evidence that suggests THCV may increase connectivity in areas of the brain associated with appetiteareas that have been shown to be affected in obesity patients. Thus, THCV may play a role in reducing the incidence of obesity.
Blocking CB1 receptors to suppress appetite is something the pharmaceutical industry has already looked into. A drug called Rimonabant showed promise in the lab, although clinical trials resulted in negative psychiatric side effects, and research was abandoned.
CBD, the darling cannabinoid of late, could also be responsible for trimming weed-loving waistlines over time. Over time CBD has been shown to increase our bodys brown fat, or brown adipose tissue, a special kind of fat that burns through regular body fat for fuel.
This may have a variety of positive effects related to fat cell metabolism and energy expenditure, resulting in a potentially promising therapeutic agent for obesity prevention, says Glazer.
While he has not personally seen lowered BMIs in his own medical cannabis patients, Glazer says he doesnt discount the growing evidence connecting cannabis with healthy body sizes. However, hes cautious to give full credit to the handful of cannabinoids mentioned above:
We must keep in mind that the cannabis plant is composed of over 250 unique chemical compounds and the research is just getting started, focusing primarily on THC and CBD. More research is required for definitive answers, but we are moving in the right direction and the future for cannabis use and research is quite promising.

Effective Steps for CrossFit Athletes to Lose Weight Without Counting Calories – BOXROX
How to lose weight, its a question asked by many. Its a message as old as time. Exercise more, eat less, and youll lose weight. Weve heard it from doctors, registered dieticians, and nutritional organizations who truly believe that calories are the only reason our weight fluctuates up and down. In all actuality, its a bit more complicated than that.
The truth is that different foods influence hormones and hunger in various ways, which means that all calories are NOT created equal. In fact, all of that calorie counting you may be doing in an attempt to lose weight isnt even necessary. Here are several proven ways to put your weight loss on autopilot and start losing weight without keeping track of calories.
Studies have shown time and time again that individuals who stay away from refined, simple carbs automatically consume fewer calories, which kick starts weight loss without a ton of effort.
In a study by the University of Cincinnati in 2009, 53 obese women were randomly placed in a calorie-restricted, low-fat group or a low-carb group for six months. While the calorie restricted, low-fat group lost around 8.6 lbs. (3.9 kg), the women in the low-carb group lost 18.7 lbs. (8.5 kg). Simply by eating until they were full, the low-carb group lost twice as much weight.
If you need help cutting out carbs, start by eliminating negative carbs (sodas, sugars, sweets, and starchy foods) from your diet. This includes bread, potatoes, and pasta. If you cant imagine a diet without these things, make healthier choices. For example, opt for red and sweet potatoes over white potatoes, select whole-grain bread and pasta, only eat them in moderation.
Remember why you started
By reducing your daily carb intake to around 100-150 grams per day, youll start to see results. To lose weight even faster, cut down your carbs to less than 50 grams per day.
Note: If you are a training athlete for crossfit or any other sporting event, reducing carb intake could potentially hinder athletic performance as complex carbs have a very big role in energy supply to the body. It is fine to eliminate simple carbs such as sugars, soda pop, and starchy food, but if you are training for performance you will always want to include a variety of complex carb sources in your diet to keep energy levels high.
Complex Carb Sources:
This is especially true at breakfast. In a 2005 study, 30 overweight women were given either eggs or bagels for breakfast. When lunch rolled around, the women who ate eggs for breakfast ate fewer calories. This continued throughout the day, as well as for the next 36 hours. Essentially, the eggs did such a good job of filling them up that they ate fewer calories automatically at later meals.
In a second study conducted in 2008 by a different group of researchers, 152 overweight women and men were divided into two groups for eight weeks. While one group ate eggs for breakfast, the others had bagels. At the end of the eight weeks, the egg group had lost:

Why people usually have an A-ha moment before they lose weight – KSTU FOX 13 Salt Lake City
Dr. Kristen Kells, a Chiropractic Physician, is an authority when it comes to weight loss. She's not only studied it in-depth, but she's been there, done that! Dr. Kells lost over 80 pounds personally and has kept it off for the last 15 years.
Dr. Kells says usually there is an "A-ha" moment when people realize they've got to lose weight. For her, it was after her son was born when she was at her highest weight. Dr. Kells say she was depressed, hopeless and felt like she'd tried everything! For her, she had to address her weight loss resistance, something she now does in her offices. Dr. Kells says when you address the underlying biochemistry (hormones, body PH, toxicity) it will help you fix your broken metabolism and correct weight loss resistance.
So how do you know if you have weight loss resistance? Dr. Kells says if you've tried everything and still can't lose the weight, and if you have some of these typical symptoms: brain fog, wired and tired, no energy, low libido, digestive issues, cravings or if you felt like she did - hopeless and discouraged, you may have it.
But it doesn't have to be that way. Stephanie Bezyack, a client of Dr. Kells, joined us to talk about the great results she's had. She lost 28 pounds in 14 weeks and has kept it off for four months. Stephanie says she has more energy and is feeling better about herself as a whole.

South Lyon woman struggled all her life with weight. Now she’s lost 135 pounds. – Livingston Daily
Christine Hoke uses some free weights at a Wixom Planet Fitness.(Photo: JOHN HEIDER | hometownlife.com)
As many people were making New Year's resolutions to lose weight, Christine Hoke hadalmost reached her goal.
After a lifetime struggling with her weight and periodically tipping the scales at more than 300 pounds, she has dropped 135 pounds.
I am thinner than when I got married, and even thinner than I was in high school, Hoke, a 1986 Brighton graduate, said.
The 5-foot-7 South Lyon resident was a size 12 in high school, but now she is a size 10 and down to 190 pounds and counting.
Hoke credits Weight Watchers for giving her the tools to finally get the weight under control, a program she began less than two years ago after her doctor told her she was turning diabetic and because of her excessive weight and her age, her knees were going to give out.
I thought, Holy crap, my mom is in the nursing home and my husband has health problems and Im taking care of him and Im having a hard time getting off the couch and my knees hurt. Whos going to take care of me?
Most of her family is heavyset, but she was by far the heaviest. And finally, shed just decided no one was going to take care of her but herself.
She had reached 300 pounds a few times over the years, usually in 5-year cycles, which was always her tipping point. In 2000, she lost 50 pounds and then gained it back with pregnancy. After she gave birth to her son in 2002, she thought she would lose the weight again, but it stayed. In 2008, she joined Weight Watchers, lost 88 pounds, but gained it back.
You get down so far, start living life, and think, Im happy with myself and you walk away, she said. But unfortunately, I need that support.
Christine Hoke of South Lyon as pictured on April 1, 2018, at more than 300 pounds. In less than two years, she has lost 135 pounds.(Photo: Courtesy of Christine Hoke)
In 2013, she decided to join her husband in getting gastric sleeve surgery, in which a large portion of her stomach was removed. The surgery forces patients to alter their eating habits, not only in the amount of food that can be consumed, but also in the kinds.
I thought, Well be thin together. I thought the surgery was a basic magic cure-all and end-all, that it would keep me from eating all this food, but it was not, Hoke said.
She still craved and consumed sugars and carbs, much of it in liquids, and Hoke felt ill-informed post-surgery about how to handle her cravings. The weight came back, helped from high-calorie drinks and pizza, which she called her downfall.
Food is an addiction and when you are heavy, you cant get away from the addiction, because you need food to live, she noted.
Now shes back to Weight Watchers and says shes not going back to yo-yoing weight ever again. She has a food plan for life.
In her return to Weight Watchers, she lost 11 pounds in the first week just from taking out lattes and smoothies.
Christine Hoke works out at a Planet Fitness in Wixom on Jan. 10, 2020.(Photo: JOHN HEIDER | hometownlife.com)
When she hit 85 pounds lost, she was afraid of plateauing, but she flew right past it. Andthe numbers kept droppingas sheshed125 pounds in a year.
In Weight Watchers, points are calculated for food, and devotees stick to one of three plans that keeps them within their point total. She attends support group meetings once a week at which she weighs in, and she also uses a phone app to calculate points.
An accountant, she enjoys the math, but laughs as she said her doctor told her she is the only CPA she knows who has lost weight during tax season.
While there are no forbidden foods in Weight Watchers, just ones that have to be accounted for, Hoke avoids things like pizza which she calls her red light food, something that once she starts down a path toward, she has a hard time stopping, so she just doesnt go there.
She admits liking her whiskey and indulged a bit in that and pie over the holidays, but said its all about portion control and banking points for when a special day is coming up. Its also about not beating yourself up when the occasional slip-up happens.
Weight Watchers emphasizes forgiveness for bad days, she said, as well as self-awareness of what the underlying issues are for weight gain. Hoke said instead of turning her back on stress, she communicates her feelings more now with her husband, her co-workers, her boss. When something is bothering her, she deals with it rather than reaching for food in reaction to an assumption that someone dislikes her or perceives her a certain way.
That change now is reflected not only in her appearance and physical health, but in her mentally positive attitude as well.
People say Im a different person, there is a light about me, I am radiant and that is because I dealt with my issues instead of eating them, Hoke said. You can talk to people and dont have to go home and eat that bowl of ice cream.
Instead, she goes home and has salmon or sushi or a nice, leaf lettuce salad without a serving of guilt and she takes a walk on the trails in South Lyon.
She is hoping to lose 10 more pounds and get down to her ultimate goal weight of 180 for a lifetime.
Her advice to others wanting to lose weight is to find that one thing your reason why and write it down. Hers is to be healthy. And now she is, both physically and mentally.
All her vital signs are good, and she is taking care of herself instead of wondering who will.
I just feel so much better, Hoke said. I feel lighter in mind as well as in body. I feel younger, and I am definitely happier."

Study Finds Tongue Fat Can Lead to Sleep Apnea – Healthline
Losing weight can help your sleep, according to a new study that found tongue fat can increase your risk of sleep apnea.
The study says that losing fat in your tongue can alleviate symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The condition occurs when people stop and start breathing during sleep. Patients wake up randomly during sleep and often snore. The condition can increase the risk for stroke and high blood pressure. Obesity is a risk factor, but so is having a recessed jaw or large tonsils.
According to a report in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, a team led by Dr. Richard Schwab, the chief of sleep medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, used MRI scans to look at how weight loss affected the upper airway. They say that lowering tongue fat is a primary factor to ease the severity of OSA.
Though we already knew weight loss can improve symptoms, Schwab said research hasnt looked at fat loss in the tongue.
Now that we know tongue fat is a risk factor and that sleep apnea improves when tongue fat is reduced, we have established a unique therapeutic target that weve never had before, he said in a statement.
In 2014, Schwab conducted research that found patients with obesity and OSA had larger tongues and higher percentages of tongue fat compared to those without sleep apnea.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommended that doctors examine it during screenings.
Fat deposition within the tongue and potentially other structures surrounding the upper airway may transform our understanding of the link between weight gain and OSA, with wide-ranging implications for diagnosis and treatment, Dr. Eric J. Kezirian, a professor in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at the University of Southern California, wrote in an accompanying editorial to Schwabs 2014 work.
In the current study, Schwabs team evaluated 67 participants with obesity and mild to severe OSA. They had MRI scans in their pharynx and abdomen prior to losing weight. Patients lost about 10 percent of their body weight via diet or weight loss surgery over a 6-month span. After losing weight and having another MRI, the team quantified changes in their weight loss, as well as reductions of the volume in the upper airway structures. Their sleep apnea scores improved by 31 percent, and tongue fat loss was the biggest link between weight loss and OSA improvement.
Losing weight also reduced the volume between the pterygoid (a jaw muscle that controls chewing) and pharyngeal lateral wall (the muscles on the sides of the airway). That improved OSA, but not as effectively or to the extent of tongue fat loss.
To see the real benefits of weight loss in reducing tongue fat, the patients that would benefit the most are those who have substantial tongue fat to begin with, Kezirian told Healthline. People store their body weight differently, meaning that there are people who are very heavy and have increased body fat but do not have much tongue fat and often do not have sleep apnea, he explained.
Now that he knows tongue fat loss could help some of the 22 million Americans battling OSA, Schwab hopes it will trigger more research into new methods to reduce tongue fat.
Schwab would like to know if certain low fat diets can work better than others in tongue fat reduction, or whether cold therapies currently used to reduce stomach fat could do the same in our tongues.
Exercises can be beneficial to reduce fat in the tongue. He cited a study that found people who played the didgeridoo were able to ease symptoms.
Tongue liposuction may sound like a potential solution, but Schwab said tongue fat doesnt present the same way as it does in other parts of the body, so it may not be in development anytime soon.
Tongue fat does not exist in specific areas that would be amenable to typical liposuction, unfortunately, Kezirian said.
Theres no way to lose weight and focus the fat loss solely on the tongue you have to lose weight throughout your body to see results in the tongue, added Michael W. Calik, PhD, an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago Center for Sleep and Health Research. He is studying dronabinol, a cannabinoid that may be able to improve tongue activation if ingested before going to sleep.
Schwab also wants to find out if patients who are not obese but still have fatty tongues may be predisposed to having OSA and are less likely to be diagnosed with it. Ethnicity may also play a role in the severity of OSA. When comparing the upper airway anatomy of Chinese and Icelandic patients who have OSA, he noted that Chinese patients had smaller airways and soft tissues, but bigger soft palate volume with more bone restrictions. As such, people of Asian descent could have a higher risk for OSA.
Anyone who experiences snoring or sleepiness should be screened for OSA, even if they arent in a typical high-risk category, such as having obesity.
People should also know that having OSA doesnt mean you have to use a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine for relief. Though the machine helps OSA in about 75 percent of patients, many have a hard time tolerating the machine. There are other treatment options, Schwab emphasized.
Many patients get turned off by CPAP and they wont come and see their doctor, Schwab said. Theres other options out there and you should investigate those options with your physician. There are serious consequences of not having your OSA treated.

While we all have our reasons to lose weight and get back in shape, for Vijay G Pardeshi, it was his daughter who acted as his biggest motivation. He realised that his daughter was getting mercilessly teased due to his appearance and decided to change his ways. From completely shunning junk food to being consistent with his weight loss goals, his weight loss journey is as inspiring as it gets. Most of us have seen spoof images of a fat man in a superman costume, that is exactly what I looked like, before embarking upon this journey.
My daughter often got teased over that image and she innocently always defended my appearance. However, for me, that was a turning point. This transformation was a promise to her. I had to make sure that I looked like a fit superman, and thus began my fitness journey.
My breakfast: 2 whole eggs, 1 white egg, 40 grams of muesli.
My lunch: 200-300 green leafy vegetables, 75 grams rice, 100 grams potato, 60 grams paneer, and 25 grams dal.

Dice onions and tomatoes about one and half-inch long. Slice the chillies from the centre to make sure it stays intact and you get that spicy flavour.
Spread butter on the pan and add all the vegetables. Saut them for about five minutes. Add tomatoes to the mixture and saut it for about three minutes. Fitness secrets I unveiled: I realised that nutrition and training go hand in hand. You cant be successful by doing just one. I keep on telling this to people around me that be consistent in whatever you do. Consistency is the key for getting success.
However, the most important thing is to be patient. You didnt gain your weight in one day so even losing it will take some time. How do I stay motivated? I started with a vision of weight loss, I saw results and it motivated me to go further. After I lost enough weight, I wanted to get rid of the tummy and when I got rid of the belly fat, I wanted to show off those muscles and abs. I make it a point to set short goals and keep working towards them. How do you ensure you dont lose focus? I set goals for a specific period and work tirelessly to achieve them. When you have a short term goal, there are fewer chances of losing focus. Whats the most difficult part of being overweight? I felt really lethargic when I was overweight and didnt like meeting new people because of my appearance.
What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I believe in short term goals. My this years goal is to gain muscles. If I keep achieving my fitness goals, I will be in the best shape for sure.
