Plus-Sized Elf episode 1 review: A rather bland anime about weight loss that fails to hit the mark – Sportskeeda
Plus-Sized Elf episode 1, titled The Elf of the Forest, was released at 1:30 am JST, on Sunday, July 7, 2024. The anime was anticipated to cater to a niche audience, and its adaptation surprised many. Despite the anticipation, the premiere failed to meet viewers' expectations. This was surprising, given the intriguing plot of the show, which revolves around an elf who needs to lose weight to return to her world.
Plus-Sized Elf is based on a Japanese manga series by Synecdoche. The series was initially published on the Comic Gum website of Wani Books. A sequel is being published in Akita Shoten's Dokodemo Young Champion magazine.
Disclaimer: This article contains spoilers.
Plus-Sized Elf episode 1 focuses on Tomoatsu Naoe, an employee at Smiley BOAR Massage Relaxation Center. After finishing his days work, Naoe encounters a unique client named Elfuda, who is part of their Diet and Bodywork Therapy program.
Elfuda, with her emerald eyes and large ears, piques Naoe's curiosity. She expresses her concern about her weight gain and inability to return to her homeland, the Kafar forests, and needs Naoes help. As Naoe begins the therapy session, it is revealed that Elfuda is an elf.
Elfuda opens up about her journey from another dimension through a portal. The food in this world, particularly french fries, led her to overindulge and gain weight. But to return home, she needs to shed the extra pounds.
Under Naoe's supervision, Elfuda embarks on a weight loss journey. She is seen jogging, shadowboxing, and resisting the temptation of french fries and soda. Naoe reminds her of the importance of a calorie deficit, and Ino takes her to hot baths to boost metabolism.
After a month, Elfuda returns to her original shape and thanks Naoe before returning home. However, Naoe later finds her at a fast food joint, indulging in french fries. Elfuda justifies her actions, stating that she can always lose weight again if needed, allowing her to enjoy her favorite food.
The best thing about Plus-Sized Elf episode 1 is its unique premise, which keeps viewers interested throughout the episode. Unlike typical isekai anime where characters journey to another world, this series reverses the concept by bringing fantasy characters into our familiar world.
Due to stress, unhealthy habits, and poor food choices prevalent in this world, an elf who has entered this world and succumbed to the temptations is now facing the repercussions and desperately needs help to return.
Plus-Sized Elf episode 1 is relatively short, running for approximately 11 minutes which has likely contributed to its pacing. The animation quality is also decent, and because it is an ecchi anime, the animators have incorporated additional scenes and made certain moments even more explicit than in the manga.
Despite the efforts that went into the production, Plus-Sized Elf episode 1 begins to feel too long. Although it is still too early to say anything concretely, this feeling may stem from the overall superficiality of the episode's content.
Elfudas struggles are resolved with relative ease, only for the narrative to return to square one. It seems this will be a recurring theme as the story may not have a clear direction. This approach can be both advantageous and disadvantageous, depending on how it is executed in future episodes.
The creative team is making adjustments to the manga in an attempt to deliver the best possible adaptation. Whether these changes will ultimately be successful remains to be seen. It is worth noting that while some anime adaptations improve on the source material, others fail to capture the qualities that make the manga exceptional. So, in this case, the humor and the antics of the characters fail to elicit a good response.
In the end, there is still a lot to look forward to considering this is only the first episode of the series. Perhaps the most enjoyable aspect is that there does not appear to be any explicit moral lesson in the first episode.
While an unhealthy lifestyle is not encouraged, the need to be in perfect shape is dismissed merely as a technical requirement for the elf to return home. However, if the rest of the elements in the anime do not improve, the viewing experience will be fairly drab.

How I Made Peace With Hunger and Decided I’d (Probably) Never Go on Ozempic – Vogue
The February 27, 2023 issue of New York magazine is one whose cover I can still vividly recall. Bon Apptit, read a bold-typed white caption superimposed over an image of a fork stabbing the hollow plastic part of a syringe. Inside the issue was features writer Matthew Schneiers cover story on Ozempic, which featured a range of users least politically correct admissions about the various motives behind their use of a costly and side-effect-heavy drug that, as Schneier wrote, provided an effortless, near-instant fix. In Schneiers story, an actress on Ozempic testifies to surviving on one and a half meals a day, while another woman confesses shed maybe rather risk thyroid cancer than give up the injectable she now relies on to lose weight; if you live with an eating disorder like I do, or maybe even if you dont, its hard not to get triggered reading these pseudonymous interviewees casual admittances of everything theyre willing to give up in pursuit of thinness.
Heres what bothers me about the weight-loss-drug craze: If Ozempic had been approved by the FDA for bariatric use at any point in my teens or early 20s, when I was stuck in a punishing cycle of dieting and binge eating, Im confident that I would at least have tried to get my hands on it. Given the freedom with which the ZocDoc-sourced, mildly shady doctor I saw back then prescribed me Adderall I didnt really need, I probably would have succeeded, even during the periods where I weighed the least. Back then, I saw fat as the enemy, the villain waiting in the wings to condemn me to a life of insecurity and loneliness; if youd told me that there was a medication on the market that would simply zap my stubborn, persistent hunger, my oh-so-unsightly longing for food, I would have regarded it as a miracle cure for everything I perceived to be so very wrong with me, and I probably wouldnt have stopped until I found someone to provide me with it.
Making the move from objectively thin person terrified of fat to actually fat person living in the world hasnt always been easy; indeed, its necessitated years worth of therapy, endless searching for forms of exercise that would actually make me feel good in my body, enough cooking practice to begin to know how to nourish myself without the help of Postmates, andof courseboundless support from my friends and family, most of whom have been around to witness my growth and are always there to remind me of it when I wake up on a post-binge day and feel as rudderless and lost and failure-defined as I ever did.
The idea of trading everything Ive accumulated over the past few yearsmy fatness, yes, but also my taste for food, my interest in cooking, my ability to relish a good meal at least some of the timefor thinness now feels like the ultimate Faustian bargain, but I know that the Ozempic craze might have sucked me up into its wake if it had taken root even just a few years earlier, before Id had the benefit of enough time and regular therapy to begin to de-prioritize weight loss. I also know there are people for whom weight-loss medications like Ozempic and Wegovy provide a huge benefit, and I dont want to pass judgment on anyones health regimen or individual relationship with food, but I worry that drugs like these provide a quick fix to the messy and often lifelong problem of learning to live in a changeable and desirous human body. Where would I be now if Id gotten accustomed to spending $900 a monthessentially a second renton weight-loss drugs in 2017, instead of finding my way to food group and starting Abilify and moving to New York and reading Roxane Gay and initiating the process of learning to occupy space in my own body?
Its taken me years to be able to say this, but as I sound it out in my head, it feels true; I mostly like my hunger. Ive grown accustomed to it, and I learn its contours every day when I wake up and try to figure out whether cereal or a big, greasy breakfast burrito or a green juice or just coffee would feel best in my stomach. I try to take the advice I once got from writer and curve model Kendra Austin, who has written extensively about her own experiences living with disordered eating, to eat dessert every day; or, at least, to eat dessert whenever I want it, especially when Im feeling bad about the wanting itself. (When the old mental reflex to just stick some grapes in the freezer! or just pick up some Halo Top! goes off in my head, thats when I know I really need dessertas in, actual dessert, not diet ice cream that tastes like Splenda-sweetened snow.) I used to think of my hunger as something feral, out of controlan untamed animal who needed to be sedated as much as possible, lest it rise up and maul mebut now, Im trying to see it as more of a kindly invited guest, someone whose preferences and tastes I let guide me without overwhelming me entirely.

Jesse Plemons is showing off the results of his recent weight loss on the red carpet.
On June 20, the 36-year-old actor was joined by his wife, Kirsten Dunst, at the New York City premiere of Kinds of Kindness at the Museum of Modern Art.
Plemons sported a sophisticated look for the June premiere. The Killers of the Flower Moon actor wore a sleek, tailored black suit with a white button-down shirt. He accessorized with a pair of black leather loafers.

Meanwhile, Dunst, 42, wore an elegant summer ensemble. The Oscar nominee arrived in a silk pale yellow sheath gown with an asymmetrical neckline that included one shoulder with a cap sleeve and the other sleeveless. The gown featured a cinched waist and sparkling embroidered florals.
ThePower of the Dogactress channeled Old Hollywood glam, with loose waves framing her face, a deep red lipstick and soft bronzed eye makeup. She kept her accessories minimal and wore her wedding band and a pair of diamond stud earrings.

Plemons was also photographed with costar, Emma Stone. The two-time Oscar winner wore a black gown with intricate cutouts and detailing that draped across her hips. The long-sleeve black gown with transparent fabric that included polka-dots on both sleeves and the skirt. The dress included one panel of fabric that included a black and black checkerboard print that fell across the center of her body.

Earlier this month, Plemons who famously gained weight to play Boston mobster Kevin Weeks in 2015s Black Mass shared that his recent fitness journey wasnt motivated by his appearance, but by his age, and his scene-stealing role in the new drama, Civil War.
What it was was getting older and I hate even getting specific because then it turns into a whole thing, but there was a part that I did that in my mind I could not imagine him as the size that I was.
The part hes referring to is his cameo in the apocalyptic war drama, where he appears as a soldier in a tense scene with Dunst.
I lost a little bit before I did that part, Plemons told the outlet. Several people talked to me about intermittent fasting and I just gave it a shot and [was] surprised at how quickly it was effective.

Intermittent fasting is the time-restricted approach to eating that has become a popular weight-loss tool. Those who practice it say they like the ease of the system, where you limit your eating hours to a portion of the day, then "fast" during the remaining hours to lose weight.
After starting intermittent fasting, Plemons admitted that he felt like I was in the rhythm, I was feeling better, and something shifted in my head. I just sort of got a handle on it.
And although he worried that for his latest role in Kinds of Kindness, director Yorgos Lanthimos would want the bigger me, he said being physically thinner actually worked in the film.
Kinds of Kindness is in theaters June 21.

Experts Explain the 30-30-30 Diet Plan: Does It Work? – Men’s Health
PERHAPS YOU'VE SEEN 30-30-30, the three-part
The 30-30-30 plan isn't even really a diet, at least in the traditional sense, but more of a daily practice intended to lay the foundation for a solid morning and successful day. Though some proponents of 30-30-30 do argue that the approach can help you lose weight.
Can such a simple approach really help with weight loss? And does the whole 30-30-30 thing even check out scientifically? Let's dig in.
THE 30-30-30 PLAN blew up when biohacker Gary Brecka described it on TikTok, although the diet itself traces back to the 2010 book The Four Hour Body by Tim Ferriss. The method is simple: Eat 30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of waking up. Then, do 30 minutes of steady low-intensity cardio with your heart rate below 135 beats per minute.
Many social media influencers tout 30-30-30 as a weight loss strategy (Brecka has said hes never seen a diet strip fat off a human like this one.) The supposed mechanism on how 30-30-30 works for fat loss: by eating a protein-rich breakfast, you protect your muscles so you burn fat, not lean mass, during the workout that follows.
THAT'S KIND OF a complicated question, largely because while 30-30-30 is based in some key practices of good health, it also oversimplifies diet and exercise by leaving out a few critical components.
But let's start first with what makes sense.
Research suggests that high-protein diets can reduce body fat and maintain muscle mass by keeping you full and satisfied so you eat less overall. Experts recommend 1.2 to 1.6 grams of protein per day for every kilogram of your body weight.
So why not start with 30 grams first thing? This method allows us to get a good dose of protein first thing in the morning, potentially helping us meet protein goals throughout the day a little easier, says Sarah Keathley, M.S., R.D., L.D., a nutritionist at Top Nutrition Coaching. A recent study review published in Nutrition Reviews even showed an association between high-protein morning meals and greater muscle mass.
While theres no magic to the 30-minute window for eating breakfast, eating early is probably a good idea. One recent study in BMC Nutrition showed that the earlier people ate after waking, the healthier their breakfast, perhaps because they werent crunched for time. Another study in the European Journal of Nutrition suggests that eating early is associated with better metabolic health, including insulin function, in men, perhaps because blood sugar processing is most efficient after a night of sleep.
A rule like this could keep you honest about exercise. As many of us are lacking in physical activity, this can be a benefit, especially getting active first thing in the morning before potentially sitting all day at a desk, says Keathley.
A less obvious benefit of the 30-30-30 plan is mindfulness, says Keathley. It gets you thinking about food, your nutrition plan for the day, how you can squeeze in exercise, and hopefully the quality of what you are eating, she says.
That's all the good stuff. And it is good. But where 30-30-30 falls flat is science has not yet proven if there's any magic in the combination approach. More research is needed to show whether combining them this way works. There are no direct research studies that examine the exact 30-30-30 method and its effect on a group of individuals at this time, says Keathley.
Plus, while 30-30-30 is simple and easy to remember, its simplicity could be a problem. Here are the drawbacks of the strategy.
You could, technically, meet your 30-gram morning protein requirements with a Breakfast Baconator combo from Wendys. But that meal probably wont help you lose weight at 710 calories and a measly 1 gram of filling fiber.
Although protein is an excellent macronutrient that our body needs to function, weight loss primarily stems from a calorie deficit, says Keathley. During a calorie deficit, our body taps into stored fat as its source of energy, leading to weight loss. (Heres how to find your daily calorie count.)
The 30-30-30 plan does not address whether each individual may need a different level of physical activity to best meet their own health needs, says Keathley.
Low-intensity cardio has had mixed results in research studies. In a study published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, middle-aged people who did workouts similar to the steady light cardio in the 30-30-30 plan didnt lose weight over 24 weeks. Another study published in the journal Obesity showed that similar levels of exercise helped participants lose about six pounds in 12 weeks, but it didnt matter whether they worked out in the morning or at night.
Exercise alone rarely leads to weight loss, says Leanne Redman, M.S., Ph.D., F.T.O.S., a professor of clinical sciences at Pennington Biomedical Research Center, and there are several reasons as to why that is.
Your morning workout can only do so much. For one, if you dont track overall exercise and make adjustments to your diet, you can easily eat more calories than you burned. Plus, often when we burn calories in exercise, we burn fewer elsewhere through the day, so the net impact of exercise on daily calories is small for most people, she says.
MAYBE? THE 30-30-30 diet probably isnt the secret to dramatic weight loss, but it could help you establish a healthy morning routine. Be cautious and when implementing any plan, fit it to your own lifestyle needs to make it realistic, says Keathley. The end goal of any nutrition journey is to create healthy and sustainable habits.
For high-quality breakfasts with at least 30 grams of protein, try the following:
If you arent a big eater in the mornings, protein drinks (whether ready-made or mixed up with protein powder) can help you hit 30 grams fast. Check out our favorite recipes.
Every large egg has about six grams of protein. Pair a few with lean meat and a high-fiber grain to make it a complete meal. Or make egg bites. Create an omelet. The options are endless, says Keathley.
Pick a high-protein, low-sugar yogurt like non-fat Greek yogurt. Try our favorites.
Add lean protein to oatmeal by mixing in egg whites, nut butter, nuts, seeds, quinoa, powdered peanut butter, or protein powder.

Caroline Stanbury Used ‘Incredible’ Ozempic to Lose IVF Weight Gain – Us Weekly
The Real Housewives of Dubai star Caroline Stanbury briefly used Ozempic to help lose the weight she gained during past rounds of in vitro fertilization.
After 45, it becomes very, very hard to lose weight and Im not lazy, Stanbury, 48, exclusively told Us Weekly on Monday, June 17. Im not lying at home doing nothing. I go to the gym, I have a trainer, I walk all the time [and] Im busy.
Stanbury noticed that her weight wasnt shifting after completing two rounds of IVF.
I did get really fat. I put on 18 pounds on my body and thats no joke, she said. I looked like I ate [my husband,] Sergio [Carrallo,] by the end of last summer. I was reading a magazine [that had] a picture of my bottom on the back of a boat with him last summer. I was like, Thats it. Ive got to do something. I cant get it off.
Real Housewives such as Kyle Richardshave addressed whether they used diabetes medication Ozempic for weight loss. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star sparked speculation about using the drug after she debuted her slimmed-down figure in January 2023 via a bikini selfie. Richards then opened up about how her decision to cut back on alcohol []
She continued, Ozempic, I have to say is an incredible tool. Why do you need to be miserable if you can get yourself back to where you were? I didnt want to be different. I didnt do my face to look like a supermodel. I wanted to be me, but younger.
Stanbury got a facelift in November 2023, telling Us that taking [her] eyelids off has already made a big difference in her facial appearance. Just as the facelift has helped, Stanbury found success with Ozempic.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), semaglutides like Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro are commonly prescribed for adults who struggle with obesity or other weight-related conditions, such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes. While it is not encouraged for casual weight loss users to try the medications, many stars like Stanbury have used it to help supplement their weight loss journeys.
Ozempic got me into my old jeans, Stanbury quipped, noting she no longer uses the injections. I dont take it. But if I put [the weight] back on, I would absolutely take [more injections]. Why not maintain it? But right now, Ive been really lucky [and] I dont need it right now.
Since using Ozempic, Stanbury got back to exactly where Ive always been and the same pair of pants she wore when she met Carrallo, 29, five years earlier.
It just felt very thin for other people because my legs are tiny. Ive always, if you go back to Ladies of London [and] if you go back to all the things, Ive always been peg legs, thats where I lose the weight always first, the Bravo star said. Its the rest of me, unfortunately, that just doesnt follow.
Ozempic has become a hot topic when it comes to weight loss with some stars confirming they have used the drug while others denied it. Chelsea Handler admitted during a January 2023 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast that she unknowingly took the Type 2 diabetes medication, which is traditionally used to improve []
Stanbury, however, would never say never to using Ozempic again down the road, telling Us, that Carrallo wants to do another round of IVF [and] a hundred percent Ozempic will be my next stop.
Stanbury and Carrallo wed in December 2021, eventually deciding to undergo IVF to welcome their first baby together. Stanbury already shares daughter Yasmine, 18, and twins Zack and Aaron, 14, with her ex-husband, Cem Habib.
Stanbury further told Us that her and Carrallos next round of IVF would likely take place in January 2025.
Theres a lot on your body. I really am happy with the way I look right now, but hes worried we only have one egg, but I guess I could do another one, she said. Im grumpy as it is. And so that on top of that, I dunno hed better wear a helmet.
Stanburys relationship with Carrallo is also chronicled on The Real Housewives of Dubai season 2, which is currently airing on Bravo.
You have successfully subscribed.
Hes just grown up such a lot. You can see such a transition in who he is [on the show], Stanbury said on Monday. He doesnt take himself so seriously anymore. I think hes enjoying being in his own home and youre going to see who Sergio really is finally. I think he had a tough time in season 1 [with] the girls.
The Real Housewives of Dubai season 2 airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.

The Best High-Protein Meals for Weight Loss – EatingWell
Dinner is a meal that many of us don't want to miss. First, it's often our most social meal of the dayeating with family or friends or both. Dinner also plays a key role in helping you lose weight, if that's a current goal of yours.
While you might think that skipping dinner would help in your weight loss quest, according to a 2021 study published in the journal Nutrients, it may have the exact opposite effect. The study used college students as participants and found that those who regularly skipped dinner gained about 10% more weight over 6 years compared to the students who regularly ate dinner. Dinner skippers were also more likely to have a BMI in the overweight or obese category.
That said, dinner doesn't have to be an all-you-can-eat buffet. Research, such as a 2019 review in Nutrients, suggests that making breakfast or lunch your largest meal of the day could help you lose more weight than if you made dinner your biggest meal.
This is where protein comes in. If your goal is to make dinner a lighter meal, including a protein-rich food would be wise. Protein is extremely satisfying and makes sticking to a lower-calorie diet easier.
So, with that said, here are some of the best high-protein foods to add inspiration to your dinner menu!
1 thigh with skin, 32 grams of protein, per the USDA
This dark meat cut clocks in a little lower protein-wise compared to its chicken breast sibling but deserves points for its extra zinc and iron. Size-wise a thigh is much closer to the recommended 3 to 4-ounce serving of protein than a typical chicken breast, so choosing a thigh over a breast is an easy way to keep portion sizes in check.
Save money and eat well with these budget-friendly chicken thigh recipes.
3 oz. turkey breast, no skin, 26 grams of protein, per the USDA
We're still in support of the chicken breast (aka America's favorite cut of chicken), but its turkey cousin is ever-so-slightly lower in calories and the flavor is just different enough to break up the monotony of chicken breast.
These turkey breast dinner recipes offer healthy inspiration.
3 oz. of shrimp, 20 grams of protein, per the USDA
Shrimp are incredibly lean (a full cup of them has only a little over 1 gram of total fat), yet they're packed with protein. Unless your healthcare practitioner has advised you otherwise, don't sweat their cholesterol content. Evidence suggests that dietary cholesterol doesn't significantly raise your risk for heart disease.
These 30-minute shrimp dinners are a must-try.
3 oz. ground bison, 22 grams of protein, per the USDA
Ounce-for-ounce bison is leaner than even 95 percent lean ground beef and only slightly lower in protein. Use it exactly how you would ground beef. Another game meat that's a great source of protein is venison (deer meat)it's just not as commonly available in supermarkets as bison.
Here's some inspiration for what to do with bison for dinner tonight.
1 cup lentils, 18 grams of protein, per the USDA
"I think of lentils as 'plant-based ground beef' meaning you can use them in place of ground beef in your favorite recipes like tacos, pasta sauce, burgers, meatballs," says DJ Blatner, RDN, author of The Flexitarian Diet and The Superfood Swap.
Including about a 1/2 cup of lentils (or any beans) in your diet regularly may help with weight loss and belly fat, suggests 2023 research in Nutrients. This is likely because they are high in protein and fiber, which increases feelings of satisfaction and also delivers antioxidants to keep cells healthy, explains Blatner.
Add more lentils to your diet with these delicious, healthy recipes.
2 large eggs, 12 grams of protein, per the USDA
"Breakfast foods make great high-protein dinners. Add eggs to your fried rice or make a pizza frittata," says Blatner. "A single egg has 6 to 7 grams of protein, only 80 calories, and delivers choline, a nutrient that is good for brain health and may also be associated with a healthier body composition."
Try these healthy, quick and easy egg recipes.
1 cup 2% cottage cheese, 24 grams protein, per the USDA
Yes, cottage cheese is healthy! Cottage cheese isn't just high in protein, it's also quite low in carbs and even contributes some probiotics to your gut. Make it the base of your favorite veggie saladthink, chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, a sprinkling of your favorite herbs, and a dash of a zesty spice, like sumac). Or use cottage cheese as a toast or cracker topper.
Here are 11 cottage cheese recipes you'll want to make forever.
7 oz. container, 20 grams of protein, per the USDA
This breakfast food can pull double-duty as a dinner food and is a perfect stand-in for sour cream. "Use Greek yogurt as a sour cream swap in your taco bowls or base of creamy salad dressings," says Blatner. "Yogurt, eaten regularly as part of a balanced diet, is a food that's associated with lower body weight."
Check out these healthy yogurt recipes (that include a few dessert ideas, too!).
While they say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, dinner deserves some accolades, too. By regularly skipping it, you may be missing out on a weight loss advantagenot to mention important nutrients to round out your day. Making protein the star of your evening meal will help fill you up and stay satisfied through bedtime.

Fake Ozempic seized in UK and Americas prompts world health warning – The National
Fake batches of Novo Nordisks diabetes drug Ozempic have been circulating amid soaring demand for the medicine that can be used for weight loss, the World Health Organisation said on Thursday.
The organisation said three fake batches were identified in Brazil and the UK in October last year and in the US in December.
It is the first time the global health body has issued an official warning, although it has been monitoring growing reports of phoney semaglutide, as Ozempic is known generically, since 2022.
The counterfeit products could harm patients health because they do not contain the correct ingredients, and in some cases they may even contain a different drug such as insulin which could be dangerous when taken incorrectly, the WHO said.
Ozempic is a diabetes treatment; semaglutide is sold for obesity under the brand name Wegovy.
Fake weight-loss drugs are a growing concern as demand for the medicine feeds a ballooning gray market.

In the US, regulations allow compounding pharmacies to sell copy versions of the drugs because they are in shortage.
Novo and its US rival Eli Lilly and Company have sought to link the compounded medicines with the possibility of outright counterfeits.
Lilly said on Thursday that some compounded medicine contained a different chemical than the Food and Drug Administration-approved medicine.
Patients should avoid unfamiliar or unverified sources, such as those that may be found online", the WHO said.

Doctors Test the Limits of What Obesity Drugs Can Fix – The New York Times
Lesa Walton suffered for years with rheumatoid arthritis. It was awful, said Ms. Walton, 57, who lives in Wenatchee, Wash. I kept getting sicker and sicker.
She also had high blood pressure, and she was obese. Doctors told her to diet and exercise, which she did, to no avail.
Then she found a doctor who prescribed Wegovy, one of the new obesity drugs. Not only did she lose more than 50 pounds, she said; her arthritis cleared up, and she no longer needed pills to lower her blood pressure.
Her new doctor, Dr. Stefie Deeds, an internist and obesity medicine specialist in private practice in Seattle, said that Ms. Walton exemplifies a growing movement in obesity medicine.
Proponents call it obesity first. The idea is to treat obesity with medications approved for that use. As obesity comes under control, they note, the patients other chronic diseases tend to improve or go away.
We are treating the medical condition of obesity and its related complications at the same time, Dr. Deeds said.
