Jessica Simpson – Jessica Simpson 'determined' To Lose Weight

'Fashion Star' mentor needs to heal before she can't go to the gym.

Jessica Simpson is ''determined'' and ''excited'' to lose her baby weight.

The 'Fashion Star' mentor gave birth to her first daughter, Maxwell Drew, earlier this month and has a $4 million endorsement deal with Weight Watchers.

A confidant told Us Weekly: ''As soon as Jessica heals from the C-section, she is extremely determined to get back in the gym and work out. She wants to show the world and is excited to do it.''

Since announcing that she and her fiance Eric Johnson were expecting their first child October 31, the 31-year-old singer has been under scrutiny over her pregnancy weight gain.

Now, the 5ft 3in TV star, who admitted to weighing 170 pounds when she posed nude and pregnant for the April issue of Elle, needs to slim down over the next few months to fulfill her contractual obligations.

She admitted to experiencing junk-food pregnancy cravings for snacks including Laffy Taffy, buttered Pop Tarts, and Kraft macaroni & cheese with Lawry's seasoning salt.

A source familiar with the diet plan company's negotiations revealed the stakes are high for their agreement.

The source said: ''She'll have to meet the weight-loss goals for the deal to go through. She hasn't chosen a trainer yet.

''In fact, she hasn't even thought about working out for a year. But if she wants this, she'll need to work out a good five times a week.''

Chong and Glow And Glamour spokesperson Nurul Wahab with the sleeping capsule

STEP into the sleeping capsule and in 40 minutes, you can lose weight. Well, sleeping is optional, but the six steps (see accompanying story) you experience in the capsule will literally help you sleep away the fat.

A short and easy way to lose that extra fat and trim the waistline.

While the slimming programme is not a new concept, the Sleeping Beauty Fat Loss programme offered by slimming company Glow And Glamour is said to be first in the country. The technology from Germany combines both Western and Oriental healing methods.

Glow And Glamour managing director Norman Chong says that many women, especially after giving birth, find it hard to lose that extra fat even with exercising and dieting. Some cannot find the time as they are busy with work and family. Because of this, they often let themselves go.

He says: Due to hormonal imbalance as well as an unhealthy lifestyle, the body accumulates fat. For some, even with exercise and diet, they cannot shake that off, especially if they are aged 40 and above. Some may want an easier way to do it.

Depending on a persons body size, each session lasts between 40 and 90 minutes in which a person can lose up to 3,200 calories which is equivalent to three hours of cycling. After each session, the curative effects of fat disintegration will last for 24 hours and weight loss is about 0.5-1.5kg.

TAILOR-MADE

Depending on the weight of the person, the results may also vary. More sessions may be needed before desired results are seen. The bigger the person, the more sessions she needs to go through. Before each treatment, we record weight, waistline measurement and eating habits. We also need to know about any medical condition.

For the desired results, the Hour Body Glass exfoliant body scrub and burn and firm cream are applied together with a body wrap. In addition to burning fat, the programme also stimulates the lymphatic system and dissolves toxins as well as improves full body circulation, body shape and cardiovascular health. It also helps with a bulging tummy, eating disorders, pain and tension in the muscles and insufficient or poor sleep quality.

12-year-old inspires his family to lose weight

Tired of being bullied at school, Marshall Reid decided to do something about his ballooning weight, so he inspired his family to make a commitment to healthier living. Now 36 pounds lighter, Marshall and his mother, Alexandra, chat about their new book, "Portion Size Me: A Kid-Driven Plan to a Healthier Family," which outlines the Reid family's journey to fitness.

By Linda Carroll

Ten-year-old Marshall Reid was tired of being bulled about his weight. He was tired of not being able to keep up with the other kids at recess and of having to constantly pull his shirts down to keep his stomach covered.

One of my classmates actually told me, You know, you dont look very good. Youre fat, Reid told TODAY.

But with the Reid family eating out most nights, it was impossible for the frustrated tween to do much about his weight.

Then Marshall saw the documentary, Supersize Me, and he got an idea: Maybe he could do the opposite of what he saw in the movie and eat healthy for 30 days. However, he knew that wouldnt work without his familys help.

Marshall went to his mom, Alexandra, and told her things had to change. Im done, he told her. Im not doing this anymore. Im not putting up with this. Im going to change myself.

The conversation hit Alexandra Reid hard.

I knew it came from his heart, Alexandra told TODAYS Ann Curry. It was a sad moment for me because I knew he was hurting and any mother doesnt want their child hurting.

I felt like somebody had thrown a brick at me because the amount of parental responsibility that all of a sudden came washing down on me was alarming, she told TODAY.

Smartphone App Helps Kids Fight Fat

An anonymous social networking website, with an accompanying smartphone app, seemed to help obese youths lose weight without fear of public ridicule, a researcher said.

Those who used the site, weigh2rock.com, self-reported a mean weight loss of 7.4 pounds, and those who used the partner app reported losing a mean 10 pounds over 4 months, Dr. Robert Pretlow of the Research Institute at eHealth International in Seattle reported at the European Congress on Obesity in Lyon, France.

"While weight loss from social networking is not as much as face-to-face weight-loss programs, social networking is much cheaper and much more widely available," Pretlow said in a statement.

Read this story on http://www.medpagetoday.com.

He said public social networking may promote obesity, especially if it lowers obese teens' self-esteem. Fears of social rejection and isolation may lead to sadness and depression, which can then inspire "comfort eating," especially of highly pleasurable food, Pretlow explained.

But social networking site where participants remain anonymous may help patients who are struggling to lose weight avoid feelings of shame and embarrassment. The idea is modeled after other programs in addiction medicine that emphasize anonymity.

"Programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Drug Addicts Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, and Food Addicts Anonymous demonstrate that support groups are indispensable in the addiction treatment approach," Pretlow said. "The crucial point is that people remain anonymous."

He added that the group support component helps the obese patients tolerate withdrawal from problem foods and motivates them to continue their weight loss.

So Pretlow reported data on the anonymous obesity website he developed. Weigh2rock.com offers online forums, chat rooms, success stories, a weight-loss "buddy" program, and other tips for keeping pounds off.

Since the site started 11 years ago, Pretlow said, there have been a total of 17,628 users, with a mean age of 14.2, and a mean body mass index of 32.7.

Weight loss surgery allows woman to fulfill her dream of being a mom

Jassira Espaillat-Batista had always wanted to be a mother. But at 340 pounds, she was unable to ovulate, so having children didnt seem to be an option for her.

[My husband and] I had tried and it just didnt happen, Jassira said. My OBGYN told me if I wanted to do that I would need to lose weight or use fertility treatments.

So in an attempt to take control of her weight issues, Jassira sought out medical options that would help her drop the pounds. Without knowing much about the procedure, Jassira decided to get a gastric band more commonly known as a lap band to help control her food intake.

But the surgery that was meant to make her life easier turned it into a nightmare instead.

It was the most miserable year and a half of my life, Jassira said. I was constantly vomiting. Everyone expected me to drop weight like crazy, but I didnt lose any weight and became extremely depressed.

And to add to her misery, Jassira found no help in her doctors. When she explained to them that she had trouble swallowing her own saliva, they would tell her that she was not doing the right things, even though she was following the vitamin and diet regimen as closely as possible.

The quality of life was so miserable, Jassira said. It got to the point where I was looking for a surgery that would just take it out.

Thats when a friend referred Jassira to Dr. Mitchell Roslin, the chief of obesity surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. She sent him an e-mail describing her pain, and he immediately called her to set up an appointment for the next day.

Roslin explained to Jassira that the lap bands failure wasnt her fault it just wasnt the right surgery for her.

What I tell people about a band is that its a diet with a seatbelt, Roslin said of the silicon device which acts as diet suppressor meant to help limit a persons food intake. If thats enough to change your eating habits, thats fine. But it doesnt have the same diet suppression as other surgeries do. Bands have gone down a significant percentage. Theyre easier things to sell and harder to live with.

Men lose more weight when slimming without girls

London, May 9 : Men who go to slimming classes lose twice as much weight when there are no women around, a study has found.

They put their success down to the 'blokey banter' and lack of 'awkward moments' at the men-only sessions.

Those who followed an all-male course lost almost a stone on average, taking in those who missed some of the 12 weekly meetings.

In comparison, men who attend traditional slimming club meetings dominated by women lose on average just over half a stone.

Counting only those who completed the all-male course, weight loss rose to nearly one and a half stone and waistlines were reduced by almost two inches on average.

The European Congress on Obesity in Lyon, France, heard it was likely that some of the men were bashful about discussing their 'chubby' bodies in front of women.

However, they felt more secure in an all-male environment and their competitive spirit came to the fore.

For the study, 62 overweight men from the West Midlands attended weekly Weight Watchers meetings without any women.

Around two-thirds of the men completed the course and 77 per cent of these lost at least 5 per cent of their body weight. Many shed more than 10 per cent.

Researcher Professor Steven Robertson, of Leeds Metropolitan University, attributed the results to a sense of camaraderie, blokey banter and the feeling of being part of a team.
