February Full of Fun, Fitness and Fancy at Westfield Memorial Library – TAPinto.net

February at the Westfield Memorial Library promises to be full of fancy, funand fitness. The library is located at 550 East Broad Street.

On Tuesday, February 4 between 1:00 and 2:30 p.m., skilled crafter and librarian Marge Barkan will teach an adult craft class on how to make Valentine roses from Hersheys Kisses. She has taught numerous other craft classes at the library including fabric wreaths and pumpkins, recycled-book candles and floating teacups.

Due to the handson nature of this class, registration is limited to Westfield Resident Cardholders only, until January 28 when MURAL patrons may register, space permitting.

Also on February 4 at 7:00 p.m., librarian Mary Piekarski will lead Trivia Night for Teens and Adults. Players are encouraged to bring teammates, team up with others, or be a one person outfit (16 years and older). There is a maximum of 4 people per team.

The trivia questions are designed to be accessible to a large range of ages and interests, and the winning team will get a prize

Dr. Huang will teach the Ways of Tai Chi on Thursday, Feb.6 at 7:00 p.m., and then have the class try out the various movements. Tai Chi is the Chinese tradition of using martial arts movements as a gentle way to exercise and reduce stress.

Dr. Huang participated in the International Chinese Martial Arts Competition in Washington, D.C. and the U.S. International Kuo Shu Championship in 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2016. He has won numerous medals, including nine Gold, two Silver, and one Bronze.

In the past few years, in addition to teaching regular classes at his Bridgewater Seeking Tai Chi Studio, he has been invited to teach Tai Chi at the Huaxia Chinese School at Montgomery and the West Windsor and Morristown Libraries.

Dr. Huang pays special attention to fundamentals and combines both theory and practice in every class. He is passionate about Tai Chi and focuses on promoting its growth in the United States.

The programs are free and open to Westfield Memorial Library and MURAL cardholders unless otherwise indicated. (MURAL cardholders belong to the 40+ libraries that are part of the Middlesex Union Reciprocal Agreement Libraries. Check the librarys website to see if your library participates.)
