First Friday focuses on fitness – The Independent

ASHLAND First Friday will have a partner in fun tonight, as a coalition of health organizations will offer activities and information.

Festival of Fitness will feature nearly 30 fitness activities and/or health information opportunities free to area residents. Activities will be geared to all fitness levels so beginners and more advanced individuals may participate.

Featured activities and demonstrations include CrossFit; yoga; Zumba; hiking; pickleball; toning classes; tennis; biking; walking; golf; geocaching; kayaking; health screenings; and cooking demonstrations. The festival also features a childrens obstacle course.

Health advocates featured during Festival of Fitness will include Aetna Better Health of Kentucky; Applebees; Ashland Cycling Enthusiasts; Ashland Geocaching; Ashland Pickleball Association; Ashland Tennis Center; Ashland Area YMCA; Bellefonte Country Club; Boyd County Extension Office; Boyd County Public Library; Boyd County Health Department; City of Ashland Parks and Recreation; Crossfit Countdown; Dragon Fly Outdoor Adventures; Eternal Yoga and Pilates; Firm Fitness; Fit Families; Greenup County Extension Office; Greenup County Health Department; Ideas 42; Kings Daughters Medical Center; Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital; Preferred Fitness; Ramey-Estep Homes; and United Way of Northeast Kentucky.

Healthy Choices, Healthy Communities is composed of members throughout the Tri-State with a mission of improving health through collaboration, education, prevention and access to healthy choices.

Rob McNurlin will provide live music on Judd Plaza. Live music also will be featured at Neutral Grounds Coffee Shop inside the Pendleton Art Center, where works by local artists will be on display. Pendleton artists will be available to assist other artists on ongoing projects as part of the Paint with the Pros program.

Estate Thirty3 Vinyl, the Camayo Arcade and Rhythm & Relics will host music in the Camayo Arcade.

Additionally, the event features extended downtown shopping hours, discounted First Friday admission at Highlands Museum and Discovery Center and childrens activities. Inflatables are sponsored by BC Tool and Party Rental and are $5 per child.

Ashland in Motion, along with this years classic car show host, Coalition for the Cure of Parkinsons, invites all classic car owners to show off their vintage vehicles and connect with area car enthusiasts. To participate, park your car in the designated event area any time after 3 p.m. Classic Car Show participants are asked to make a $5 donation in support of both nonprofit organizations. Donation registers vehicle and enters participant into a nightly door prize drawing.

The coalitions mission is to create hope for a cure, creating outlets not only for raising research funds, but also serving as a spiritual and educational support system for families dealing with the disease.
