Hospital sets golf fitness workshop

Kewanee Hospital will host its first-ever Golf Fitness Workshop Thursday, March 8. The workshop, which is led by the business relations committee, runs from 1 to 6 p.m. at Kewanee Hospital. The workshop is open to all golfers experts, new golfers and junior golfers and will offer a variety of screenings, evaluations, tips and counseling. The workshop is valued at more than $500. Jeff Roche, director of golf at Metamora Fields Golf Club and head mens golf coach at Bradley University, will present the program, Starting the Spring Season at 4:30 p.m. in the East/West Conference Room. Roche has more than 20 years of experience in the golf industry, serving as assistant pro at Illinois State University Golf Course and Soangetaha Country Club, and as head pro at Shewami Country Club and Weaver Ridge Golf Club. He will provide mini-lessons on a scheduled basis throughout the event. Golf fitness evaluations will be provided by Amanda Kocis, PT, DPT, CSCS, Titleist Performance Institute Certified Golf Fitness Specialist (TPI-CGFI). Kocis is an experienced golfer and a Doctor of Physical Therapy in Kewanee Hospitals Rehabilitation Services department. Golf fitness evaluations help improve golfers physical capabilities allowing more efficient, powerful swings. Evaluations focus specifically on strength, mobility, endurance and injury prevention. Additional screens include functional movement screens and biodex balance screens, provided by Ian Swindler, ATC, Certified Athletic Trainer, and Kim Becker, PTA, Physical Therapy Assistant, from Kewanee Hospitals Rehab Department. Speed trials events will also be provided by Jeffrey Tod, Nike Golf representative. Informational booths include sales of greens fees and discounted merchandise for the Kewanee Dunes; sales of greens fees for Baker Park; nutritional counseling with Katie Keaschall, RD, LDN, registered dietitian and licensed dietitian nutritionist at Kewanee Hospital; chair massages with Liz Jones, massage therapist at Kewanee Hospital; refreshments; and prize drawings. The fee for individual participants is $85. A family package is available for $100 (includes spouse, children and grandchildren) and a business package is available for $160 (up to three individuals). Participants in the workshop should bring their own clubs.
