Life Fitness, the global leader in commercial fitness equipment manufacturing, announced the release of an open API (Application Programming Interface), making it the first fitness equipment manufacturer to open its product platform. This new access for developers, called LFopen, enables third-parties, including fitness facilities, to create unique, new applications that work directly with Life Fitness equipment.

Opening our API enables us to keep doing what we do best developing first-class exercise equipment while unleashing new, creative minds to come up with fresh ways to engage and motivate exercisers, said Chris Clawson, president, Life Fitness. The Life Fitness open platform products will enable developers and our customers to create fitness solutions specific to their exercisers and will allow for endless possibilities.

Establishing a link between an exercisers digital life and the workout experience, LFopen will provide developers with access to future Life Fitness equipment software technology and the ability to customize apps leveraging workout presets, workout results, real-time monitoring and more. Facilities can take advantage of open platform products to create customer-branded solutions and offer exercisers the most up-to-date content and entertainment to improve the workout experience.
