NORTH PLATTE, Neb It was awards night for the Platte River Fitness Series in North Platte.

Dozens of runners and their families attended a banquet at Harbor Lights where they were treated to a pasta dinner and an awards ceremony.

As the awards were announced the participants made their way to the front to claim them.

One of the winners was Jamey Swanson.

After suffering an injury which melted the bottoms of his feet and later developing a disease which will eventually cause his feet to be amputated, Swanson decided to live his life to the fullest.

"The disease, there's no cure for it. It doesn't get better it just progressively gets worse and worse," said Swanson. "I didn't want to live life being supported under some kind of device. I wanted to get out and live my life while everything is still there. I've made peace with the fact that it may get worse. I just want to enjoy life."

As a result of Swanson's new lifestyle, he has signed up for a half iron man in August.
