Hybrid businesses pair multiple things under one roof.

Itmight be a grocerant, which melds a grocery store with a sit-down restaurant. It might be a retail shop that has a thriving e-commerce operation in back.

Kimberly residents Brenda and Aaron Koatsdecided their new business, Exquisite Force Salon & Fitness in Kimberly, would be a triple hybrid.

Its asalon, fitness studio and shake bar.

Two ofthe three are now open. The salon opened two weeks ago andthe shake bar opened Monday. The third part, a fitness studio, debuts April 3.

Exquisite Force is at 819 Schelfhout Lane in Kimberly, under the big clock in a multi-tenant buildingsouth ofAnduzzis.

The reason why they put three businesses into one space was simple, said operating partner Brenda Koats.

Theyre all what I am, she said. If I could do something for fun, this would be it.

Shes an Appleton native who worked in salon and fitness industries for 13 years before taking a break recently to get acollege degree in dietetics. Besides running the business, she is a hair stylist and fitness instructor.Im building my clientele from scratch again, she said.

The shake bar, called Force Fuel, has two dozen seats and 40 different high-protein shakes intended to be meal replacements. Many are low to moderate in calories. Students from Kimberly High School across the street have already make it a lunchtime stop. Were not pushing weight loss or muscle gain with this. Its here for convenience, Koats said. People might come in after exercise, or just come when theyre hungry. The 16-ounce shakes are $6.50 and include an aloe shot on the side.See the website for hours.

The fitness studio has small-group fitness classes including Kangoo Jumps, aerial classes and bar, weight and interval training. There are no contracts, but does offer packages and punch cards. The first fitness visit is free.

The salon has three hair stylists and a nail technician.
