The 41-year-old actor will be taking on the role in director Tigmanshu Dhulia's untitled project.

Dhulia told Mid Day: "After working with Jimmy in four films, I know his potential as an actor. I was surprised to see him looking so lean and young.

"And given his commitment, he'll do what it takes to justify the role. Since it is a performance-driven role, I know he would fit the bill perfectly too."

Shergill has just finished shooting the sequel to the erotic thriller Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster.

In the original, the star plays a member of the Indian royal family who becomes part of a love triangle.

Co-star Irrfan Khan has reportedly asked for sex scenes in the film to be cut out.

Shergill was last seen in Karisma Kapoor's comeback vehicle Dangerous Ishq.
