Well, its September and were still waiting for the HBO MaxFriends reunion. After pushing the date back multiple times due to the coronavirus pandemic theyre hoping to film with a live studio audience the original special still doesnt have an official air date. Thankfully, in the meantime we got a little something to tide us over. The Friends had a mini reunion on tonights Emmys broadcast, bringing together half of the original crew for a bit with host Jimmy Kimmel.

At first, it looked like we were going to seeJennifer Aniston again after her fiery first appearance earlier in the evening. But no,Courteney Cox was right there next to her in the frame. Oh, look at this, Courteney is there! Kimmel exclaimed. Of course Im here, Cox replied. We live together.

Huh? You do? Kimmel asked, while Aniston, not skipping a beat, replied, Yeah, weve been roommates since 1984, Jimmy. And as anyone with roommates knows, sometimes its hard to find some privacy, which leads us to the third guest of the bit,Lisa Kudrow. Is this live TV? Kudrow asked, wandering in and taking a seat next to Aniston. You live there too? Kimmel asked. Yeah, where else would I live? she responded.

We got Phoebe, Monica and Rachel, but where was the rest of the gang? We dont have an answer for that, but we do know that Jason Bateman got the memo and dropped by the impromptu reunion. I didnt know Ross was there, Kimmel said. Bateman also lives in your house?

Yeah, just until he goes off to college, Aniston joked, later telling the host that dinner was ready and she had to dip, bringing theFriendswith her.

The Emmys bit comes about a month after HBO Max delayed thelong-awaited reunion again, pushing back the unscripted special due to production concerns during the pandemic. HBO originally planned to film in March, but had to change plans when production shutdowns went into effect as the virus began to spread.

At the time, HBOs Bob Greenblatt said they were hoping to film by the end of the summer. We do think theres a value to having a big, raucous live audience to experience these six great friends coming back together and we didnt want to just suddenly do it on a web call with, you know, six squares and people shooting from their kitchens and bedrooms, he explained.
