Heres what you can expect when you take a fitness class, get a haircut or go out to eat under Phase 3 of Pri – Chicago Sun-Times

Gov. J.B. Pritzker released guidelines Sunday for retailers, manufacturers, barbershops, salons, health and fitness centers, and other businesses that will be allowed to reopen in coming days as the state enters the next phase of its Restore Illinois plan.

In addition to social distancing, wearing masks and hand-washing, Phase 3 of Pritzkers plan includes some specific guidelines for places like gyms, hair salons and day camps:

The governor stressed that as more businesses reopen, the top priority will continue to be the health and safety of Illinois residents and workers, and he urged Illinois residents to continue to take precautions.

Guidelines for Phase 3 as well as toolkits for businesses can be found on the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity website. The governors office estimates about 700,000 Illinois residents will be able to return to work in Phase 3.

Farmingdale Fitness Business Pays It Forward In The Face Of COVID-19 – farmingdale-observer.com

NutriWolfs Darren Anselmo at the grand reopening of the Deer Park location(Photo courtesy of Darren Anselmo)

Not unlike other retail outlets, NutriWolf has been taking it on the chin because of COVID-19 and the closures that have come about by way of Governor Andrew Cuomos NY On Pause Executive Order. Owned by partners Darren Anselmo and Ron Fairclough, this business, with locations in Farmingdale and Deer Park, stocks vitamins and supplements, in addition to selling prepared meals and helping customers achieve their fitness goals. While Anselmo is fighting to keep Nutriwolf afloat, he has been taking the coronavirus situation seriously dating back to the middle of March.

We were one of the first people in our area to use contactless transactions, Anselmo said. Ronnies wife works in the ER and she was one of the first people to tell me how [serious] it was before everyone knew how bad it really was. About March 16, I initiated contactless transactions. We stopped taking cash and only take credit cardswe only take customers credit card numbers. We set up a table near the door, so only one person can stand in the doorway at a time. Early on, people were asking if all this was necessary and if we were taking things a little too far. But I preemptively took those precautions for the safety of my staff and customers as well as my own. It was a little rough.

In navigating this new normal, Anselmo is able to stay open as an essential business, given that he uses an off-site commissary kitchen to create freshly prepared meals, which can be picked up on-site and ordered via Door Dash and Uber Eats. The Farmingdale native is also paying it forward by giving many of these meals to local frontline workers and law enforcement.

We make meals and Ive been donating them every week to local hospitals and police departments to take care of the people on the frontline and do whatever it is I can do, he said. All they get is pizza, and Im not going to knock it because my partner owns a pizzeriabut theyre getting a lot of foods that are not going to help them lose weight. At this point, we want to do what we can helping people on the front lines eat a healthy meal. There is only so much crap you can eat. Were trying to go that route and give them some healthy options.

While his current COVID-19 situation is less than optimal, its just the latest obstacle Anselmo has cleared. A personal trainer for a decade who started participating in bodybuilding competitions in recent years, Anselmos first stab at a business was launched back in 2010 out of the Farmingdale gym Infinity Fitness. Armed with a business management degree from Farmingdale College and his $30,000 life savings, Anselmo was not only victimized by $9,000 worth of Internet fraud in his first year, but wound up getting briefly sidelined after the gym suddenly closed down. The fledgling entrepreneur operated out of a storage facility until meeting his current partner at a New Years Eve party, where the latter proposed they relaunch it as a brick-and-mortar business. While getting everything going was enough of a challenge, Anselmo and Fairclough had to rebrand after getting legally threatened by Monster Energy Drink.

We used to be called Monster Nutritionthat was the original name, Anselmo said. Last year, we got a cease-and-desist legal packet from Monster Energy Drinks lawyers claiming that we infringed on their trademark rights. They actually had the [nerve] to ask me to pay for their lawyer fees for sending the cease-and-desist. But I turned around and asked them to become a partner in the business and get these stores to open up across Long Island. They basically told me to go screw myself.

Guided by a firm belief that positivity is far more contagious than negativity, Anselmo is continuing to spread good vibes while keeping his dream alive.

Im just trying to keep my head above water with this business and do right by my employees at the end of the day, he said. Were not all in the same boat, but were dealing with the same problem.

Guardiola happy with fitness of City squad – Manchester City FC

Pep Guardiola says he is delighted with the fitness of his players.

The City squad returned to training last week for the first time since the global COVID-19 health pandemic saw football across the world halted in mid-March.

But with the UK government giving the green light for sport to take its first tentative steps back to normality, the players returned to the CFA for testing and training on Saturday.

The sessions thus far have been in small groups with contact between players still prohibited but Guardiola has seen enough to know his squad have done everything they can to maintain their fitness levels throughout their time at home.

And the boss also sent a message of thanks to all the frontline medical workers, who he says have provided selfless service throughout the crisis for which we should all be grateful.

Yeah, really good, he said when asked about the condition of his players.

I think they were looking forward to coming back and to train again and do what they like.

They came back perfectly.

We follow the rules, the protocol. We have to. Thats the most important thing. We dont do anything special.

The special ones are the doctors, nurses, scientists, cleaners they put their own lives at risk to save ours.

When its a special situation around the world, you have to adapt.

CITY+ Free to Cityzens until football resumes

CITYZENS AT HOME

Meanwhile, the boss sent a message to the City fans urging them to continue following scientific advice as the world continues to battle COVID-19.

Supporters across the world have been without the game for a significant period, with the German Bundesliga the only major European league to return behind closed doors.

But Guardiola says in these extraordinary times we must be patient and stick to the rules in order to minimise the effects of the virus.

Well I think all the fans around the world are waiting to watch football, he said.

We want to come back but now the priority is other things. Its still stay safe, be careful and when everything is possible we will come back. First, I think without them, but hopefully we come back to a routine.

But now the most important thing is to follow the instructions. If they say use a mask, stay at home, social distancewe have to do it. Because there are many, many people in the NHS who put their own lives at risk to save ours.

Its incredible what they have done, and we have to follow them. Now, we cannot do anything wrong.

Burnaby fitness giant reopening by vastly reducing traffic – Burnaby Now

Its safe to go back to the gym in Burnaby.

Thats the message from a local fitness giant that is reopening in the High Gate area with enhanced safety measures. This follows the Province of B.C. lifting restrictions on gyms during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Founders Advantage Capital Corp. announce that its subsidiary, Club16 Trevor Linden Fitness, is scheduled to reopen its fitness centres effective June 1, 2020.

In an effort to ensure the health and safety of staff and members, Club16 has adopted enhanced cleaning measures, implemented a work-out reservation system to reduce club traffic and has reconfigured club equipment to ensure adequate social distancing.

James Bell, president and CEO said in a statement: We are pleased to announce the re-opening of Club16 fitness centres on June 1, 2020 and we are proud of the significant health and safety measures implemented by Club16 management to protect our team and members.

Many businesses that are reopening are requiring customers wear face masks, but its unclear if many gyms will require people to wear masks while exercising, which could make breathing difficult.

Business owners will have to create an operational plan that follows public-health guidelines and post the plan on their websites and in their facilities for customers, Fraser Health and WorkSafeBC to review.

Gyms will have to reduce the number of clients they serve to ensure physical distancing is possible and provide hand-sanitizing stations and disinfecting materials to wipe down equipment between each use. They will also be expected to ask clients if they have symptoms of COVID-19 when they arrive and deny entry to anyone with symptoms, and post signs informing customers to stay home if theyre sick.

Indoor gyms and fitness facilities, such as weight training, gymnastics, and martial arts facilities, yoga and dance studios, and other similar facilities, will be permitted to re-open if they can meet provincial requirements to protect staff and clients against the spread of COVID-19, reads a Fraser Health statement. Any facility wishing to resume operations must develop a plan that follows safety measures laid out by the Provincial Health Officer and WorkSafeBC.

Guidance for facility operators and for the public related to gyms and other fitness facilities is now available onfraserhealth.ca.

Were with you: Cape Cods BodyStrong Fitness reopens in defiance of state order, hopes to send message to – MassLive.com

A health club in Chatham received a written warning from the towns board of health on Thursday after, against state guidelines, it opened on Wednesday, according to the gyms social media page.

The Chatham Board of Health visited BodyStrong Fitness on Thursday to issue a written warning, gym owner Corey Clark said on Facebook. Clark praised the professionalism of the person who delivered the warning and said he understands they have a job to do, but the gym will remain open despite anticipating fines.

She was open to hearing and seeing what we are doing to keep our members as safe as possible, Clark posted on Facebook. I was happy that I was able to walk her around and show the cleanliness of our facility and all our precautions we are taking.

BodyStrong Fitness, which has locations in Chatham and Orleans, opened amid the coronavirus on Wednesday after Gov. Charlie Baker place gyms in phase three of the states reopening plan which was released on Monday.

Each phase will last at least three weeks. A best possible scenario for phase three to begin is June 29. However, new phases will be initiated based on health trends. Data could allow for a phase to last longer or the state to return to an earlier phase.

To all the other small business owners tossing and turning in your beds trying to figure out if you will make it through these difficult times, we're with you, Clark said on Facebook. Our decision to open was not made lightly. We carefully planned how we could keep our members as safe as possible and with the guidelines we came up with we decided it was time to fight.

BodyStrong Fitness joined Prime Fitness in Oxford, which also opened its doors this week. Gyms across the state were shocked to discover the industry fell in phase three.

Clark said on social media, he hoped the move would spark the state to reexamine its view of gyms, potentially leading to a reconsideration.

If all that comes from us taking a stand is the state revisiting who should, or could open safely, or a closer look at the needs of Cape Cod businesses, then we have accomplished something, Clark said. To those who called us irresponsible and selfish, you have no idea who we are. To those of you who do know us and appreciate us, THANK YOU.

It posted a long list of guidelines for members to follow on Tuesday.

We want everyone to know that we take this very seriously, the gym said in a post that listed the protocols.

BodyStrong Fitness will allow no more than 20 people or 10% of its capacity to work out at any given time. Any person entering the gym must use hand sanitizer, check in at the front desk and have their temperature taken.

The gym also requires members to change their shoes after entering. Locker rooms, changing rooms and showers will be closed.

Members must disinfect equipment, which has been moved within the facility to maintain social distancing, before and after using it. Any member who doesnt will be asked to leave, the guidelines said.

The gym requires members to wash their hands frequently and remain at least six feet apart at all times.

Any member displaying symptoms such as coughing, fever, shortness of breath or sneezing with nasal discharge will be asked to leave.

A limited number of gloves and masks will be available if needed. The gym doesnt require members to wear masks while working out, but asks members to bring one.

Members are asked to limit workouts to one hour.

In addition to the requirements for members to disinfect machines, staff at the gym will also clean high use areas. Each day, the gym said, it will clean every machine and individual rooms.

The gym will also not be holding classes.

Members looking to renew or join the club are asked to do so over the phone to avoid in-person contact.

I would like to thank everyone for the immense amount of support we received [Wednesday] for opening our business, Clark said in a Facebook post. The strength you give us through all your comments of having our backs, offering to pay all our fines, praising us for having the courage to stand up and fight for our families cannot be measured.

Lose weight before breakfast: want to know the best time of day to workout for maximum weight loss? – T3

Ever wondered what is the best time of the day to exercise if you want to lose weight fast and keep the pounds off too? If you did, you are not alone: a group of researcher set out to test this exact hypothesis, namely whether you should work out early-morning, late-morning, in the afternoon or in the evening. One thing is for sure: regular exercise and consistency will help both weight loss and getting healthier too.

The research is called "Relationship of Consistency in Timing of Exercise Performance and Exercise Levels Among Successful Weight Loss Maintainers" and it was published in July 2019, concluding that "among temporally consistent exercisers, 47.8% were earlymorning exercisers". What this means is that people who were exercising early-morning were most likely to keep on exercising and therefore losing belly fat on the long run.

Evening exercisers came in second place (25.1%), followed by late-morning people (15.6%) and finally, those who exercised in the afternoon (11.4%). Surprisingly, people who did workouts in the afternoon reported the most weight loss while doing a little less active activity than early-morning people.

Although the researchers conclude that "a large proportion of temporally consistent exercisers were earlymorning exercisers, suggesting a potential benefit of earlymorning physical activity", it also says that "findings suggest that exercising at the same time of day, regardless of whether it is during the morning, afternoon, or evening, may help with achieving higher physical activity levels".

The different types of intermittent fasting and which may be more beneficial to your health – Insider – INSIDER

Intermittent fasting is based on the idea that you can lose weight if you limit the window of time where you're allowed to eat. This makes it unique from many other diets.

"Intermittent fasting focuses on when a person should eat food, not what type of food he or she eats," says Divya Selvakumar, a registered dietitian, author, and founder of Divine Diets, LLC.

Eating for only a limited window means that you fast for the rest of the time, but are allowed to consume calorie-free beverages like coffee. The purpose of the fast is to kickstart a metabolic state called ketosis. While in ketosis, your body burns fat for fuel instead of sugar.

According to the limited, short-term studies, intermittent fasting does work to help people lose weight in a matter of weeks. However, there are many different approaches to intermittent fasting, so here's a guide for what to know to help you decide which fasting method may be right for you.

The 16:8 approach is possibly the most common method of intermittent fasting. It's sometimes called time-restricted fasting, and there are several slightly different variations.

In the 16:8 version, you fast for 16 hours and limit your eating to an eight-hour window of time during the day.

Most people skip breakfast as part of the 16-hour window, says Selvakumar. So, you might eat between the window from 12 pm to 8 pm, for example.

However, some may choose to skip dinner, instead. For this, you might limit your eating window to between 9 am and 5 pm each day.

According to registered dietitian Natalie Allen, a clinical assistant professor at Missouri State University, most people choose some version of the 16:8, because it's easier to follow than some other versions.

Research suggests that this type of intermittent fasting can help you lose fat and perhaps even improve your cholesterol levels, among other health benefits.

As the name implies, alternate-day intermittent fasting is when you fast or severely restrict your caloric intake every other day.

Allen says that the alternate-day fasting approach is much less popular. Plus, it may be the most challenging type of intermittent fasting to attempt. As a 2017 article in the Annual Review of Nutrition puts it, "[T]his fasting regimen may not be practical because it leads to intense hunger on fasting days."

Another 2017 study in JAMA Internal Medicine found that most of the people who dropped out of an intermittent fasting research study in an attempt to lose weight were the participants who were attempting to do alternate day fasting. Also, it didn't produce greater weight loss or weight maintenance.

"Generally, we don't recommend it," Allen says. "It's hard to not eat for a whole day. I would worry about your blood sugars, your insulin levels, your energy levels, your ability to think. And are you going to be hangry?"

For 5:2 intermittent fasting, you eat normally for five days of the week and drastically reduce your caloric intake for two non-consecutive days. Women restrict themselves to 500 calories, and men to 600 calories on fasting days.

Some people prefer the 5:2 approach. But a 2018 study in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that while this version was effective on the weight loss front, it was not more effective than a continuous calorie restriction approach in which people tried to reduce the number of calories they consumed each day.

The OMAD (one meal a day) diet is where you limit your eating window to just one hour each day and fast for the remaining 23 hours. This is an extreme type of intermittent fasting, and it can be an effective weight-loss strategy for some people.

It can even help to lower some of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease. However, you have to be able to last the entire 23 hours between meals and resist the temptation to overeat during that window, as intense hunger is a common side effect of this method.

Your own tolerance for hunger pangs may guide you in choosing which version of intermittent fasting is best for you. While intermittent fasting is generally safe for most healthy adults, it's not meant for everyone.

"People who are diabetic, pregnant, nursing, athletes, or children: none of those people should be doing intermittent fasting," says Allen. People with eating disorders also should avoid intermittent fasting and restrictive diets, in general.

For the average healthy adult, Allen gives the following advice: "If you want to try it, pick the hours that you want to eat and that you want to fast. Make healthy choices during those times and see if it works for you."

In fact, what you eat when intermittent fasting may even help prevent hunger pains.

Weight Loss Or Weight Gain Or Obesity Is Not Affected By Proximity Of Your House To Restaurants Or Gym; Says Study – NDTV Food

Living close to restaurants may not necessarily lead to obesity.

For someone living in close proximity to fast food restaurants, it may be ridiculously difficult to resist their food. On the other hand, someone who lives close to their gym, must be easily able to visit it and lose some weight. We have been living with such notions all our life, but it may not be really true. A new study suggests that living close to fast food joint or gyms has nothing to do with your weight gain or gain loss!

Researchers at the Lund University in Sweden claim there is no correlation between obesity and how close you live to fast food restaurants or gyms. It has come as a shock since many other previous studies from other countries suggested that location and distance of restaurants and gyms from our house may act as major factors in adult obesity.

Kenta Okuyama, PhD student at Center for Primary Health Care Research at Lund University, said, "Our large-scale study in Sweden, using longitudinal national registry data of more than 1,5 million adults, did not find a statistically significant association between these two types of facilities and obesity,"

However, the researchers admitted that the kind of area we live in still plays a role in dictating our overall health, including obesity. For example, urban areas with educated and informed people might be aware of the consequences of obesity and may take preventive measures. While deprived regions with low-income level may suffer from high obesity cases.

"Although reducing fast food outlets or introducing physical activity facilities might in theory promote healthy eating and exercise, it may not be very effective in all countries and regions, because the contexts vary by its culture and lifestyle that may affect how often people utilize these facilities in their daily lives," said Kenta Okuyama.
