Where is Mama June Now in 2020? Honey Boo Boo Star Today – The Cinemaholic

Mama June: From Not to Hot is an American reality TV series that is a spin-off to the TLC original Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. The docu-series follows June Mama June Shannons weight loss transformation and features the entire Shannon family.

The Shannon Family consists of June Mama June Shannon, her four daughters, and her grandkids. Anna Marie Chickadee Cardwell, born in 1994, is the eldest of Junes four daughters, followed by Jessica Louise Chubbs Shannon (1996) and Lauryn Michelle Pumpkin Shannon (2000). The youngest of the four, born in 2005, is Alana Frances Honey Boo Boo Thompson, with the help of whom the whole family rose to fame.

The family has been in the public eye since 2011 thanks to their involvement in reality television, which started with TLCs Toddlers & Tiaras, but due to their eccentric ways and behavior, they have been the center of numerous controversies. One of their biggest scandals, though, occurred when Mama June rekindled her relationship with a man whod molested one of her daughters.

Born in Georgia on August 10, 1979, to Marvin Shannon and Sandra Hundley, June Edith Mama June Shannon is one of four children. She has two sisters, Joanne Doe Doe Shannon and Joanie Shannon, along with a brother, James Edward Shannon. Their parents got divorced when June was just two years old. She also has two half-sisters, Michelle Shannon and Nicole Shannon.

The current matriarch of the Shannon Family is actually legally blind due to childhood cataracts that have been left untreated. She became pregnant with her first child, Anna, when she was just 14 years old and gave birth to her a few days after she turned 15. June had considered giving her up for adoption, but since the paperwork was never finalized, Anna was raised by her Junes mother.

Because of the pregnancy, June dropped out of school but did end up earning her GED later on. June went on with her life as normally as she possibly could and pursued romantic relationships. Her daughters Jessica and Lauryn were fathered by Michael Anthony Ford, a convicted sex offender who was found guilty of trying to exploit oral sex from a minor online. June also dated Mark McDaniel, who has been convicted for abusing Anna.

Her youngest daughter, Alana, was born in 2005 and was fathered by Mike Sugar Bear Thompson. June split from Mike in 2014 and came out as bisexual in 2015. She had admitted that although shed been intimate with women before, shed never been in a relationship with one.

With a peak weight of 460 lbs, Mama June struggled with being obese as an adult, so she underwent bariatric surgery and sleeve gastrectomy to help her lose weight. It was reported that she lost 300 lbs with the help of her surgeries, a strict diet, and training. To further improve her appearance, Mama June also got cosmetic procedures done on herself.

The whole premise of Mama June: From Not to Hot is her weight loss journey and physical transformation. The series premiered in 2017 and is currently airing its fourth season. So, you can catch up with Mama June, her family, and everything that goes on in their lives on there.

Currently residing in Hampton, Georgia, June is in a long-term relationship with Eugene Geno Doak and seems quite happy with him. Like Junes previous boyfriends, Geno has a criminal record too. He has served jail time for burglary, theft, and destruction of property, and in March 2019, they were both arrested for drug possession. Geno is also facing an additional charge of domestic violence.

Mama Junes drug addiction has caused a lot of trouble for her, including a custody battle with Mike Suger Bear Thompson for their daughter Alana. Following her arrest last year, Sugar Bear is now fighting for full custody. Her daughter Lauryn, also known as Pumpkin, is the current legal guardian for Honey Boo Boo.

Despite all the troubles of her previous relationships and her current drug issues, it looks like Mama June is quite content with her life at the moment. She has even gushed about Geno on her Instagram on a couple of occasions. On their third meeting Anniversary, June posted the following picture with a heartwarming caption that included: Im in love with you and fall in love with you every day you are my rock and my voice of reason I know sometimes I get on your nerves but just know that you are very much appreciated for each and everything always saying that its the little things that happen in life I hope that we are together many years and months and days to come he make life so easy and so fun and crazy

What to expect when cutting meat from your diet – PhillyVoice.com

Cutting meat from your diet can be a significant lifestyle adjustment, but the documented health benefits can make the change well worth it.

If your doctor has recommended that you cut back on your meat intake or you have decided to fully embrace a meat-free diet, here are some of the changes your body may experience. Just keep in mind that the effects can vary from person to person.

Because red meat and heavily processed meat products tend to be calorie-dense, eliminating them from your diet may help you lose weight. A 2015 study published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine found that people following a vegetarian diet lost more weight than people on other diets.

Plenty of studies have demonstrated how going meatless can lower your risk for cardiovascular disease and heart disease-related mortality. An American Heart Association study found that people who ate plant-based diets were 16 percent less likely to develop heart disease and 32 percent less likely to die from heart disease and stroke.

The balance of good and bad bacteria in your gut has been linked to many different health issues. Adding probiotics to your diet can create a healthier gut environment, but so can going meatless. This is because animals that are conventionally raised have been given hormones and antibiotics that can wreak havoc on your gut microbiome.

In addition, your body produces Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) while digesting red meat high levels of which have been linked to cardiovascular disease, heart failure and chronic kidney disease.

Some studies have found that adopting healthier lifestyle changes (like reducing meat intake) can affect the length of our telomeres, which are the caps at the end of DNA strands that protect our chromosomes. The shortening of telomeres can cause damage to the DNA strands and has been linked to increased risk of breast and prostate cancers.

According to a 2019 Nature study, cutting back on or eliminating meat especially red meat and eating more nuts and fruits, which have anti-inflammatory properties, can reduce the inflammation levels in your body.

High levels of systemic inflammation in the body can weaken your immune system, contributing to the development of immune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.

In order to reap the most benefits from going meatless, its important to protect yourself from any potential nutritional deficiencies.

When cutting out large food groups from your diet, its important to find alternative sources for the nutrients they provided. For instance, if youre not getting most of your protein from meat, youll need to up your intake of other sources like eggs, low-fat milk, beans, peas, soy products, and unsalted nuts and seeds. Stay away from heavily processed and sugary foods that can also have a negative impact on your health.

Be sure to also talk to your doctor about taking supplements of certain essential nutrients and minerals like vitamin B12, vitamin D, and iron. A B12 deficiency can cause anemia or lead to damage to the nervous system.

Getting into the groove of making healthy meat-free meals doesnt happen overnight so dont get frustrated. Try to be as consistent as possible and remember its okay to start with just adding a few meatless meals into your weekly mix.

The more prepared you are before going meatless, the easier it will be to stick to it. Make sure you do plenty of research on tips and recipes ahead of time, and ask your doctor or nutritionist for help creating daily and weekly meal plans that are built around beans, lentils, vegetables, and whole grains instead of meat.

Why wearing a weighted vest could help people lose weight, according to scientists – iNews

NewsScienceResearchers say the study may also help to explain why spending long periods of time sitting down increases the risk of obesity

Thursday, 30th April 2020, 11:50 am

Wearing a weighted vest could help people lose weight by making them burn more calories and by tricking their body into reducing a person's appetite so that they eat less, a new study has found.

The research suggests that when a persons weight suddenly increases their bones register the change and attempt to restore the bodys long-term equilibrium.

They believe that the bones do this by reducing the persons appetite so they eat less and their weight comes down - although its not exactly clear how the process works.

The researchers call the bones in-built bathroom scales a "gravitostat", which is triggered by changes in the body weight bearing down on the bones.

The experiments

Scientists from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, conducted experiments on 69 people with a body mass index (BMI) of 30-35, the lowest obesity category. Each wore a weighted vest eight hours a day for three weeks, and otherwise lived as usual.

One group wore light vests weighing 1 kg, while the other donned heavy 11 kg vests. After three weeks those with the heavier vests had lost 1.6 kg in weight, while those wearing the light vests had lost 0.3 kg.

The weight loss cannot just be explained by increases in physical exertion from carrying the additional weight, the researchers said.

"The effect on fat mass exceeded what's usually observed after various forms of physical training, said Professor Claes Ohlsson, of the University of Gothenburg.

Not clear what kind of fat is lost

But we weren't able to determine whether the reduction was in subcutaneous fat - found just under the skin - or the dangerous visceral kind, or belly fat, in the abdominal cavity that's most strongly associated with cardiovascular diseases and diabetes," added Professor John-Olov Jansson, also of University of Gothenburg.

The researchers say the study may also help to explain why spending long periods of time sitting down increases the risk of obesity.

Apart from the fact that people arent exercising when they sit, our understanding of the gravitostat suggests that sitting could have the opposite effect of weighted vests, they suggest.

Why sitting may fuel obesity

Thats because the reduction in weight experienced by the bones as the seat takes much of the strain could increase our appetite, as the bones instruct the body to regain the equilibrium by eating more and putting on weight.

Many questions about how the gravitostat works remain for the researchers to answer. The scientists also want to see whether the weight reduction continues for the vest wearers over periods longer than three weeks, and whether the dangerous visceral fat is reduced by the treatment.

The study is published in the journal EClinicalMedicine.

Study suggests that wearing weighted vests could reduce obesity – New Atlas

Losing unwanted pounds can be difficult, particularly if your body "thinks" you should weigh a certain minimum amount. According to a new study, however, it may be possible to trick your body's weight-maintenance system by wearing a heavy vest.

Back in 2018, professors Claes Ohlsson and John-Olov Jansson both from Sweden's University of Gothenburg reported their discovery of a metabolic system that they called the "gravitostat."

Functioning sort of like a built-in bathroom scale, it was claimed to continuously monitor an animal's weight, taking steps to keep that weight within a specific range. In mouse studies, the gravitostat was said to affect the rodents' appetite, causing them to eat more or less in order to gain or lose weight.

More recently, the two scientists set out to see if fooling that system could allow humans to slim down, by making it think that they weighed more than they actually did.

For their study, the researchers recruited 69 overweight test subjects with a body mass index of 30 to 35 this is the lowest obesity category. Over a three-week period, half of those people wore a 1-kg (2.2-lb) vest for eight hours a day, while the other half wore a heavier 11-kg (24.3-lb) vest. All of the participants were instructed to live their lives as usual, so they were not necessarily exercising.

At the end of the three weeks, it was found while the volunteers wearing the lighter vests lost an average of just 0.3 kg (0.7 lb), those with the heavier vests dropped 1.6 kg (3.5 lb). This weight loss took the form of lost fat, not muscle, although it hasn't been determined if that fat was subcutaneous (below the skin) or visceral (in the belly). Whichever the case, the scientists stated that the fat loss "exceeded whats usually observed after various forms of physical training."

Along with identifying the type of fat that's affected, Ohlsson and Jansson now hope to ascertain if the weight loss continues when the vests are worn for longer than three weeks. They also plan on investigating the manner in which the fat is lost, such as whether it's through reduced appetite, increased energy expenditure, increased mobility, or other factors.

Their research is described in a paper that was recently published in the journal The Lancet.

‘My 600-lb Life’: Lee and Rena’s love story started with their weight but ended on cheating – MEAWW

Lee Sutton and Rena Kiser's love story had been unlike any that people had seen before. The pair appeared on the show because their weight was slowly taking over their life. Lee weighed 714lbs while Rena weighed 542lbs. The pair had met each other at a bariatric rehabilitation facility.

Lee revealed that he first met Rena when she came to meet her brother at the center. As fate might have it, Rena's brother was Lee's roommate. Lee recalled watching Rena take care of her brother and how he would think about having someone who cared as much as she did. While the center did not allow any room for relationships to be formed, Lee and Rena knew that their connection was worth giving up on their time at the rehab.

The two left the center together and started dating. Being in a relationship for nearly 11 years, Lee and Rena had plans of getting married. Lee was sure that Rena was the one for him while Rena too believed the same. Even though there was no ring on the finger or an actual proposal, the pair was sure that their relationship will get through everything.

The pair got on the show with the hopes of losing weight together. Dr Younan Nowzaradan took them in and put them on a diet that they had to follow. While the pair managed to lose weight and got approved for surgery, their relationship had slowly been straining. Lee's aggressive behavior was affecting their relationship and they would often fight about silly things.

While Rena seemed to get a hold of her eating habits, Lee was finding it hard to do. During one of his consultations after the surgery, Dr Nowzaradan found out that Lee had put on more weight. Lee tried to explain that he was not at fault and stormed out of the room.

Lee's aggression was slowly taking control of him and the pair was having a hard time getting their relationship back to normal. While they managed to lose weight, their relationship did not improve.

After the show, it was found out that the pair was no longer together. Rena took to her social media to share a post about cheating and she had tagged Lee in it. Rena stated that a cheater always remains a cheater, hinting that their relationship had ended because of a cheating incident. While the pair lost weight, it seems like they also lost each other.

'My 600-lb Life' airs on Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on TLC.

Is Training in the "Fat-Burning Zone" the Best Way to Lose Weight? – Men’s health UK

Keeping your heart rate in the fabled fat-burning zone is believed by many to accelerate weight loss. But do proponents have their fingers on the pulse? We put the question to leading exercise physiologist Tom Cowan.

Whether pacing around the office or running on a treadmill, contracting your muscles requires energy, he explains. This energy is derived from a mixture of stored fat and carbohydrate, which is stored in the muscles and liver as glycogen.

When you exercise at lower intensities, fat is your predominant fuel source. Then, as the intensity of the work youre doing ramps up, a greater proportion of this energy comes from carbs, explains Cowan. The fat-burning zone is a point around 60-65% of your max at which your body is oxidising the biggest amount of fat possible. That's why you might have heard some people saying (misleadingly) that high-intensity training isn't good for fat loss.

The "fat-burning zone" is a point at 60-65% of your max HR, when fat oxidation is maximised

Heres the rub: that doesnt mean its the best way to get leaner. Weight loss is predominantly determined by calorie balance regardless of in what form those calories are stored, he says. Burning glycogen isnt inherently inferior to burning fat.

The benefit of training at lower intensities ie in the fat-burning zone is that you can sustain that effort for longer, and recover more quickly. High-intensity training triggers a bigger afterburn raising your metabolic rate but it's tougher to recover from. For best results, you need to vary your training intensity, working in multiple heart-rate zones, says Cowan. That way, you can easily tap into either energy source, whenever you need it.

Lemon Plays A Great role In Day To Day Life – World Top Trend

Drink Lemon Water Every Day for 7 Days and Heres What Happens

Lemon water is a huge fad right now, but you may be wondering if it can live up to the hype. It has been touted for everything from weight loss to cancer prevention, and while we can honestly say that no single beverage can cure every physical ill, this drink is pretty darn good for you. One of the best things about drinking lemon water is that the recipe is up to you. You may use as much or as little lemon as you prefer, and even include additional ingredients like mint, honey, or other fruit. Lemon water may also be consumed warm or cold according to preference.

However, according to nutritional experts, the ideal way to drink lemon water to reap the most benefits is warm with at least a sliced lemon included, peel and all. You dont need to eat the lemon slices, but the peel contains valuable polyphenols, which are antioxidant compounds that can aid in weight loss. Adding lemon slices to warm water helps to extract more polyphenols than cold water can.

So what are the potential benefits of drinking lemon water every day? There are many, and some of them, like #3 and #7, make the habit worthwhile all on their own. Along the way, we will bust a couple of myths about lemon water, too. Drink Lemon Water Every Day for 7 Days and Heres What Happens1. Get Fresher Breathf you are sick of chewing gum or chomping on a mint every time you have to speak closely with someone, lemon water could be the answer. When you think about the sheer number of products that contain lemon scent, this starts to make sense. The citrusy odor of lemon can neutralize odors, whether that is on your countertops or in your mouth. Drinking some lemon water after a meal that included onions, garlic, fish, or blue cheese can wipe out the lingering evidence. Lemon is also great for stimulating saliva production, which itself cleanses the mouth. A dry mouth, such as the one you wake up within the morning, actually smells worse due to excessive bacterial growth.

Drink Lemon Water Every Day for 7 Days and Heres What Happens2. Keep Your Skin Looking Younger

When you drink lemon water each day, you are already adding critical hydration to your skincare routine. Hydrated skin looks smoother and tighter, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. When you are fully hydrated your body also has more opportunity to expel toxins through sweat.

The addition of lemon to your water boosts your intake of vitamin C, a powerhouse nutrient that plays a strong role in the production of collagen and elastin, the elements in skin that keep it strong yet flexible. Some studies indicate that a diet high in vitamin C will also reduce wrinkling, something that everybody wants. As long as were talking about vitamin C, lets delve a little further into its many health benefits. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that can neutralize harmful free radicals before they do cellular damage. Therefore, making sure you get your daily recommended amount is thought to lower the risk of stroke, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular disease. And because our bodies dont synthesize vitamin C from other nutrients, we need to get that RDI from food. Lemon water can help you reach the suggested level of 60 mg per day. Drink Lemon Water Every Day for 7 Days and Heres What Happens4. Experience Easier Weight LossWe can tell you upfront that lemon water is not a miracle weight loss product. Drinking it every day is not the only thing you need to do to successfully shed pounds. However, people who do drink lemon water tend to report easier weight loss overall. It is not clear why, but its possible that drinking more flavored water can help you feel full and satisfied between meals.

But lets not forget those polyphenol antioxidants in lemon that have been shown to support weight loss in mice. Studies found that lemon reduced weight gain in mice despite a high-fat diet, and insulin resistance was also improved. Human studies are needed to follow up on these promising results. Drink Lemon Water Every Day for 7 Days and Heres What Happens

5. Stabilize Your MoodsThe same invigorating scent that neutralizes odors can also reduce your stress and keep you feeling calm. Thats why lemon oil is a common ingredient in aromatherapy oils. When you drink lemon, you get the same stress relief plus the benefit of potassium in the fruit. Potassium is critical in the regulation of blood pressure, and high blood pressure is a key factor in your experience of stress.

If you drink your lemon water warm, youll experience additional soothing effects. But however you consume it, try reaching for some lemon water before you resort to wine after a particularly difficult day.

Drink Lemon Water Every Day for 7 Days and Heres What Happens6. Avoid Kidney StonesEven if you have never had a kidney stone personally, chances are youre aware of how agonizing they can be. Most kidney stones are essentially calcium deposits, and you can reduce your risk of forming one by getting more citric acid in your diet. Lemon is a citrus fruit that contains a lot of citric acids just cup of lemon juice contains as much of it as medications prescribed for kidney stones. Keeping good and hydrated is also an important part of kidney health, so daily lemon water can be an awesome preventative measure when it comes to kidney stones.

Drink Lemon Water Every Day for 7 Days and Heres What Happens7. No More UTIsAnd speaking of agonizing conditions, urinary tract or bladder infections are incredibly painful as well. Its honestly like peeing tiny knives when you have one, and unfortunately, they are easy to contract. One way to minimize the occurrence of these infections is to keep your urine alkaline. Though lemons are acidic in their whole form, citric acid produces alkalizing byproducts when it is digested.

Drink Lemon Water Every Day for 7 Days and Heres What Happens7. No More UTIs

And speaking of agonizing conditions, urinary tract or bladder infections are incredibly painful as well. Its honestly like peeing tiny knives when you have one, and unfortunately, they are easy to contract. One way to minimize the occurrence of these infections is to keep your urine alkaline. Though lemons are acidic in their whole form, citric acid produces alkalizing byproducts when it is digested.

Daily lemon water helps maintain an alkaline-leaning pH in the urinary tract. It doesnt affect the pH in your bloodstream, however. Your kidneys do that work, and diet is not connected to the process. Dont be taken in by claims that lemon water can alkalize your whole system.

Drink Lemon Water Every Day for 7 Days and Heres What HappensConclusionThere are lots of reasons that daily lemon water is a good habit, and all it takes is 7 days to see the difference. On top of everything we have already mentioned, proper hydration alone is so important for good health. When your water is more palatable due to the addition of lemon or other citrus flavors, it can be a lot easier to down the ideal amount of 91-125 ounces each day. We encourage you to experiment with lemon water and see how much better you feel daily. Just dont expect it to blast off extra pounds, detox your system (the body does this just fine on its own), or raise your IQ. But for all the great things lemon water can do, we recommend it! Belly fat is not only unattractive, but it is responsible for many health problems. Heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer of the colon, esophagus and pancreas, chronic inflammation, and other serious problems. Losing belly fat can be one of the most important health decisions you can make.

Belly fat fills all the spaces around your guts. They are no longer able to function effectively. Also, belly fat makes toxins called cytokines that increase your chances of many diseases.

No one food or even eleven foods cause belly fat. Instead, it is what is in the food that you love to eat. If you want to lose belly fat and possibly save your life, you must cut out or drastically decrease the amount of the following eleven types of food.

1. Fruit JuiceFruit juice is healthy, right? Nope. Fruit juice is flavored sugar water. The fruit is full of sugar so even unsweetened fruit juice contains sugar.

Right there you have a recipe for belly fat and insulin resistance. Liquid calories are not satisfying so not only will you get calories in each fruit drink, but youll still be hungry.

The process of making fruit juice removes all the good nutrients in the fruit. Do your belly a favor and just eat fruit. And for the finale.

Foods That Cause Belly Fat2. Sugarsugar causes blood sugar and insulin levels to spike. If you have belly fat, you are becoming insulin resistant, the first step to diabetes. Your pancreas is working too hard, leading to other health issues.

Sugar is in practically everything and has at least 50 different names. Dont be fooled by claims of healthy sugars. Sugar is sugar. Avoid it in drinks, cookies, spaghetti sauce, ketchup, etc. Dont bother with artificial sugars they are as bad if not worse than regular sugar.

3. Trans Fatstrans fat is found in almost every processed food out there. It is generally hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oil. And if your processed food doesnt have any, its because the grams per serving are low. It is still there! And studies indicate that less than a gram affects your health.

Trans fats cause inflammation and feed all those diseases listed above. Margarine and shortening are also trans fats, so fried food is out. So is microwaved popcorn and even donut sprinkles.4. Saturated Fats

Saturated fats are found naturally in meat, cheese, and dairy products. They have been long known to affect your cholesterol levels and increase the risk of heart disease.

Whole milk and 2% are high in saturated fats, so try 1% or fat-free milk. Cheese is a great source of protein and saturated fat. Cut your intake of cheese drastically. Cheese food, yellow squares of goo, are bad for you, so avoid that as well.

5. Low-Protein DietsTo fight belly fat, you need protein. High protein diets make you feel fuller longer, increase metabolic rate, and help you comfortably decrease caloric intake.

Here’s How Intermittent Fasting Can Help You With Healthy Weight Loss – mindbodygreen.com

Even though there are no strict rules about what you can eat, board-certified internist Vincent M. Pedre, M.D., says that when it comes to weight loss, intermittent fasting is a "tactic that almost always works when everything else has failed." You don't have to take his word for it, though. There's a lot of science that says so, too.

A 2020 review in Nutrition that compared several weight loss diet strategies reported that people who incorporated intermittent fasting lost an average of 4 to 10% of their body weight over a period of four to 24 weeks.

Another review found that 27 subjects who did intermittent fasting saw 0.8% to 13.0% weight loss from their baseline weight.

While this diet style may result in eating less, it's possible to lose weight with intermittent fasting even without changing your calorie intake. That's because unlike normal calorie restriction, intermittent fasting may also help support hormone balance, like insulin, ghrelin, and leptin, which all play a role in your hunger and metabolism. This hormonal regulation is one of the reasons most of the weight you loseas much as 79%with intermittent fasting is in the form of fat.

Intermittent fasting may also help improve insulin sensitivity, which can decrease inflammation, making you feel less swollen and puffy, and has positive effects on your gut health, which Pedre calls "an often-overlooked but crucial aspect of losing weight and cultivating overall health."

According to a 2017 review in Annual Review of Nutrition, fasting can also help restore a healthy circadian rhythm, which has positive effects on your gut health, your metabolism, and your sleep patterns.

Weight Loss Transformation Erika Winning Run to Lose Weight – runnersworld.com

Name: Erika WinningAge: 27Occupation: Safety ConsultantHometown: Milwaukee

Start Weight: 250 poundsEnd Weight: 154 poundsTime Running: One year

In October 2018, I transitioned to a new job and had to buy short-term health insurance. To my horror, I almost didnt qualify because of my weight250 pounds at the time. I was overwhelmed with shame, embarrassment, and resignation, and I figured it meant I would be overweight forever.

I dont want to knock body-positivity movements, because I think its important to love the skin youre in. I tried accepting myself at 250 pounds, but ultimately, I just felt defeated and stuck.

When I was home in Minnesota with family for the holidays, I remember how big I felt, and I decided I wanted 2019 to be a different. It was the year to make a change.

After leaving, I unfortunately contracted a bad case of the flu. In those 10 days, I ended up losing maybe 20 pounds. It wasnt the way I planned to start my weight loss, but I used it as a springboard for my journey.

I started by doing bodyweight exercises with a 90 Days to Change program on Darebee, a non-profit fitness resource. The program pushed a 20- to 30-minute workout daily for 90 days, and it allowed me to log my workouts. I figured I spent at least that time every day looking at my phone, so that time could be used to work out.

Calorie counting also came into play around that time. I knew that you cant outwork a poor diet. Im not a terribly picky eater, but I learned theres a huge difference between eating to fuel your body and eating your feelings. I learned its important to feel my feelings fully, instead of denying and eating them. So when I do make less healthy choices, I ask myself if Im eating because Im hungry, or if Im eating a feeling.

Focusing on short-term goals, like losing five pounds at a time, was helpful at the start as well. I also looked for non-scale victories toonot being winded, doing a pushup, things like that. Doing this, I was able to drop another 30 pounds.

When I started these workouts, I knew I was too heavy to start doing a lot of cardio without injury. But when I hit 50 pounds lost, I wanted to pick it up again. It was something that I enjoyed before college in 2009 when the freshman 15 hit me and kept going up until late 18.

With the Couch to 5K app, I safely built up my mileage starting in February 2019. I remember getting up at 4 a.m. for hour-long walks/jogs. It was amazing being out when the world was quiet, but it wasnt always easy. On days I didnt want to go out, I would say on your feet to get myself out there.

It was somewhat frustrating that I couldnt do more at first. Again, I set those small goals for myselfI would tell myself to not worry about doing running for 20 minutes straight, but instead get through the next 90 seconds. I could do anything for a minute and a half.

As many runners discover, I was able to go farther and farther as time went on. When I ran my first 5K, I felt unimaginably proud. It mustve taken me 40 minutes, but it made me want to keep going.

My running and weight loss have been getting better ever since. Less than six months after starting, I did my first half marathon. It wasnt an organized race, and I wasnt even planning to do it on the day that I did it in July 2019. I just went out and did it for fun. I had been building up for it and hoping to do it one day. I love my short-term goals, but achieving this long-term one was just amazing.

Ive been running strong ever since. My weight has gone down to 154 pounds, and Im hoping to continue to go down in 2020. Honestly, this is the best investment Ive ever made.

I do still struggle with it though. There are times I worry that clothes one day wont fit me, and that Ill fall off the wagon and gain the weight back. It was 100 percent worth doing though, and I wish I had done it sooner.

For anyone who wants to go on a similar journey, set small, achievable goals on and off the scale, and celebrate them. Identify the obstacles in your life, accept them, and come up with plans to confront and address them. Also, appreciate the people in your life who boost you up, and are your biggest cheerleaders. My partners love and support through this process was invaluable, I couldnt have done it without his support and the little nudges along the way to keep me on track.
