Christine Thompson was so desperate to lose weight after a lifetime of anxiety over her size she begged her GP for help.
Heartbreakingly, it was while she was trying to get the help she needed to slim down that she was given the devastating news she had polycystic ovary syndrome and would never be able to have children.
Christine had always wanted to be a mum - but determined to make the most of her life she threw herself into her job of helping children with special needs.
One of her friends then inspired her to shed a massive four stone - and it helped her achieve her 'miracle' and become a mum.
In 2017 Christine took a pregnancy test and was overwhelmed when it showed she was expecting.
She is now the proud mum to two-year-old Tabatha.
The 37-year-old explained: "I was always chunky as a child, and remember aged eight asking my mum to take me to the doctor so I could get a diet.
"When I went I was told the usual thing eat lots of healthy food and youll be fine, but that didnt give me the answer I was looking for.
"I remember wearing size 14 clothes when I was in year 6, and at 49 that basically meant I felt spherical compared to my friends."
By the time she was a teenager Christine was bingeing on secret hoards of food like crisps, biscuits and chocolate.
She would also "double dip" meals by going to her grandmother's for tea and then coming home for her evening meal without telling her parents.
When she left school and started work at a printing company, Christine also started drinking.
She said: "I added big boozy sessions to my terrible diet, regularly downing 10 vodka and cokes in a night, as well as getting greasy takeaways before bed and fried breakfasts the next morning to help me cope with the hangovers."
It was then that she started struggling with depression and anxiety, all because of her body image.
Her GP prescribed anti-depressants but Christine was still struggling.
She said: "Id suffer panic attacks at the thought of being in public spaces, so when friends would call to ask where I was, Id invariably say I couldnt make it, or I just wouldnt answer my phone."
When she was 23 Christine started an animation course at university and was determined to lose weight.
He gave her some dietary advice and transferred her for a scan, where her polycystic ovary syndrome was discovered, which was the reason she was struggling to lose weight.
Christine said: "He then explained that because of my PCOS I wouldn't be able to have kids unless I had took tablets to regulate my menstrual cycle and then had IVF, which really wasnt something I wanted to consider so young.
"Even if I had the medication which had bad side effects my chances of conceiving were minimal.
"And if I delayed the treatment thered be even less chance of having kids, they said. It was just a ridiculous conversation, and I felt like my world was in pieces.
"I remember standing in the rain at the bus stop outside the GP surgery calling my mum with the news, tears rolling down my face.
"My right to be a woman was gone, and my depression spirally down and down."
After she finished university Christine moved back in with her parents and was given the devastating news that her parents had terminal cancer.
She said: "I had a complete breakdown, and pretty much stopped eating completely, going down to 11st, but I still wouldnt leave the house."
The turning point for Christine came when she got a job at a special needs school, which she loved.
She said: "If I couldnt be a mum, I could help these lovely kids find happiness, I thought.
"The sense of fulfilment and the other staff made me happy for the first time in living memory."
Then Christine bumped into a friend from school who had lost weight with WW, which used to be Weight Watchers.
Weight loss classes had never been something Christine had considered because of her anxiety but her pal reassured her if was relaxed and friendly, so she decided to give it a go.
She said: "It was like she said really open, honest and a safe place for me to talk about my feelings about food.
"I didnt buy any special foods, I just used a calculator and pointed everything, and it worked! I lost 4lbs in my first week and left my weigh-in skipping."
In less than a year Christine had shed four stone and felt "incredible inside and out".
She said: "I started having regular periods and came off anti-depressants for the first time in seven years.
"I even started exercising for the first time ever, and loved it.
"My panic attacks stopped completely and I was a social butterfly, always accepting invitations to head out to meet friends.
"I was dating and basically living the life I never thought Id have."
Then, in September 2017, Christine felt something wasn't right.
She had been able to stop taking the medication she had previously needed to help her PCOS, which had given her migraines.
Before she visited her GP she did a pregnancy test to rule it out and was stunned when it was positive.
Christine said: "I called my mum straight away with the amazing news, and she was sobbing with joy.
"Id spent years working with kids who came from tough, often loveless homes, wondering why I couldnt be a mum, and now this was it, my miracle had happened."
Even though she was a single mum Christine said her confidence was by now "sky high" and with support from her parents knew she could go it alone.
But there was another amazing surprise.
Christine said: "A good friend of mine called Ben was also there for me, and when I finally gave birth to Tabatha in March 2018 fighting fit and screaming like she should he said hed love to be her dad and my partner.
"Since then every single day is a blessing. Tabatha is a joy, my job is amazing, Im back to my goal weight after the pregnancy and Ben and I are even talking about trying to another.
"Ive since found out that losing weight really can help you conceive if you have PCOS, but nobody told me that before Id been stuck in this vicious circle of being miserable, eating more, not being able to have kids.
"I broke that cycle and have finally found true happiness as the mum I was told Id never be."

That time Kenny Rogers hooped it up with Bird and Jordan – NBCSports.com

After music legend and actor Kenny Rogers died Friday at 81, the tributes poured in from across social media.
Our favorite was from former NBA player Rex Chapman, whose Twitter feed itself is a thing to behold.
And the Celtics connection? Larry Bird (and Michael Jordan and Dominque Wilkins, among others) playing in a 1988 celebrity round-robin tournament with Rogers in terrific footage that Chapman tweeted, with a hat tipfrom NBA history podcaster Adam Ryan (@hisairnness), who found the clip initially.
There's $400,000 on the line for charity, so the NBA legends are going if not all-out, at least semi-hard (ignore Bird's jumper getting stuck in the rafters). The late, great Hall of Fame Lakers broadcaster Chick Hearn is on the call.
Rogers looks pretty good as he drains a 21-footer over Jordan.
But it's Bird, wearing No. 32? (A Magic Johnson tribute?) with teammate John McEnroe, the tennis legend, and his Green team that comes away victorious in the end. We're hoping The Gambler - that's Rogers, not Jordan - knew when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em when competing against Larry Legend.
Former Boston Celtics center Kendrick Perkins is ready to turn his life around.
The NBA champion hasn't necessarily had a rough life, but since retiring from basketball nearly two years ago, Perkins said in a tweet he has gained about 75 pounds.
After the doctor told him he needs to get healthy, the 35-year-old took matters into his own hands and shared a very inspirational video on Twitter Saturday afternoon.
Of course, any athlete will be more fit when they're still playing the game they love, but Perkins' video should be a source of inspiration for everyone right now -- especially with the COVID-19 outbreak shutting down gyms and athletic facilities across the country.
After all, they do say "no excuses."
Boston Celtics big-man Tacko Fall has taken the NBA world by storm -- probably because he's 7-foot-5.
His basketball fame has resulted in a Fall impression video by @maxisnicee on Twitter, and it's absolutely hilarious.
It's actually a pretty accurate video of Fall, from the dunking to the defensive stops, this kid got it spot-on. At least Fall doesn't mind joking around during this rough time without basketball due to the coronavirus.
With that being said, let's hopewe get basketball back sooner rather than later.

Jenny Williams has opened Little Light Pediatric Therapy at 110 E. Tyler St. next to Longview World of Wonders to tend to children with conditions like being picky eaters and autism.
Williams said she uses parent education and interactive, hour-long sessions with parents and their children that resemble play.
Referring to children, she said, They come see me here. They walk away thinking they had the best play session of their life.
Williams, who earned a bachelors degree in childhood development and a masters degree in occupational therapy, both from Texas Womans University, said she chose the downtown location because she grew up in the area. She graduated from Hallsville High School in 2004.
There is a big need around here, especially for specialized care for extremely picky eaters and sensory processing disorder, Williams said.
Williams said she previously saw clients at their homes. Her marketing materials said she previously has worked with several large organizations such as Childrens Health and Our Childrens House at Baylor in Dallas.
From 2017 to 2019, she was president of Hope Mommies Dallas Chapter, a nonprofit organization that ministers to mothers and families who go through pregnancy and infant loss.
Williams said she is seeking to build clientele through contacts with area pediatricians.
She plans to conduct her grand opening during the ArtWalk set for April 9 if the coronavirus pandemic does not require organizers to cancel the event.
Meanwhile, she said she sees clients by appointment only from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Sisters moving again
Diana Kardash is moving her Savvy Sisters estate and consignment shop from the Summit II building at 201 E. Methvin St. to the Oak Forest Center at 913 W. Loop 281 and plans to open in this coming week.
Kardash, who is moving because she was unable to extend the lease beyond six months, said she hopes her third location is a charm. She bought Savvy Sisters from Kristy Boyd during the summer of 2018 when it was located on the first floor at Heritage Tower at 208 N. Green St. She moved to the Summit II because Heritage Tower is being converted into an apartment complex for seniors.
She said the new location, near the Austin Bank building, is great, and likes the fact it has long-term tenants. It has about 5,000 square feet where she can display furniture and decor.
Kardash said she is looking forward to seeing my customers and consigners, looking forward to seeing everybody and getting settled and getting back to business.
Savvy Sisters will maintain the same hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Nutrition firm grows
Father and son Gerald and Marcus Jeansonne, owners of FirstLite Nutrition at 212 N. Fredonia St., recently opened their second shop, Panthers Nutrition, at 3800 Gilmer Road in the Spring Hill area.
Miranda Ratcliff is manager and she said business has been going really good. We have been staying busy ever since we have been open.
Ratcliff said Panthers Nutrition serves energy and meal replacement shakes.
We have different products to lose weight, she said.
Marcus Jeansonne has said he and his father got into the nutrition business because they sought healthier lifestyles. They opened FirstLite Nutrition in January 2019.
Panthers Nutrition is open from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
New insurance agency

EXCLUSIVE: Dai Young on Wasps’ turnaround and future, losing weight and his next career step – Coventry Telegraph
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/caticon.gif)
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/comicon.gif)
Dai Young believes the future is bright' at Wasps and shared his delight with the continued turnaround in the club's form since his near-nine season tenure as director of rugby ended last month.
In his first full interview since parting company with the club he joined in 2011 and steered to within minutes of the Premiership title in 2017, the three-time British Lions tourist discussed short-term goals, which include recharging his batteries and getting fit and healthy before undertaking his next job - which might not necessarily be in rugby union.
The 52-year-olds departure from the Ricoh Arena club was officially confirmed in the build-up to Wasps 60-10 victory over Saracens, which Young was due to attend before an injury to eldest son Thomas in the team run prompted a return to his homeland to visit his parents.
A week later, he was 175 miles west of the Madejski Stadium as London Irish were defeated by the visiting Black and Golds. He was watching sons Lewis and Owen play for Ebbw Vale where they ground out a 6-6 draw at Carmarthen Quins.
It's been lovely spending a bit of time catching up with people that I always promise I am going to catch up with and never do, said Young. It allowed me to go home and watch my sons Owen and Lewis play, which I don't get to do that often. It's given me time to visit my parents. That's taken up my three weeks.
Since Youngs confirmed departure and under the guidance of interim head coach Lee Blackett, Wasps have recorded three successive bonus point victories, scoring 135 points along the way to rise to a season-high position of fifth.
For their former leader, its an unsurprising explosion of form. Wasps won two of their last three league games with Young in charge, including scintillating away successes at Bristol Bears and Worcester Warriors.
I am absolutely delighted for everyone at the club, said Young. I can't help but sit with a wry smile when I've seen these results because you tend to think, well 'I told you so'. It's something I've been saying constantly during the first part of the season.
"As the director of rugby working closely with the coaches, overseeing and observing sessions I could really see it starting to click. It's no shock to me that results have turned around, long may it continue.
A big well done to the coaches, to the players and to everybody at the club. I am absolutely thrilled, hopefully it will continue and it would be great if we can carry on and finish in the top six and, who knows, even sneak into the top four. To achieve top six would be one hell of an achievement.
It was a little over a year ago he revealed to CoventryLive in an exclusive interview that he was in a dark place when the club was in the grips of star player departure rumours and suffering a downward spiral of results. He said his hands were burned from putting out so many fires. Youngs routine as a director of rugby was all-encompassing at Wasps, a measure of how emotionally he is attached to the club.
With his previously unbroken 30-year career in professional rugby now at a temporary halt, the former Wales captain is taking time to focus on himself before his next career step. As a former dual-code international, having also appeared 14 times for his nation's rugby league side, there's a little more to him these days than he's comfortable with.
I am very much looking at a staged approach, he explained. I've done what I've done for the last three weeks, now I am getting back in the gym, getting myself fitter and lose a bit of weight. Spend a bit of time on me.
The director of rugby job is an all-consuming job, you can forget to look after yourself. I want to rest up as well and take a break from it and recharge my batteries.
Although it's only been three weeks, it has been completely different. I am enjoying the break and not being involved in rugby on a day-to-day basis, how long that will last, who knows?
"The next six weeks, I will sit down and think about what I want moving forward.
There is a clear desire to get back into the sport he loves. Having also coached the Barbarians on the international stage on a couple of occasions, it appears those skills are the ones he is keen to put to the test once more.
"In the last two seasons as director of rugby I've not done as much coaching as I'd normally do, I haven't enjoyed that, I don't think that's the best use of my time and experience," he said.
"The obvious way forward would be a director of rugby role, having spent 16 years as director of rugby at both Cardiff and Wasps.
"The last two years at Wasps I did not have a direct hands on coaching responsibility but an overseeing role. Id much rather be a director of rugby, head coach. Spending more hands on coaching time on the pitch.
I am not averse to just being a coach as well. I've got no egotistical thing about wanting to be in charge. I see my next job as being really important, I want to make sure it's something I enjoy."
Young steered Wasps north from London to Coventry, and like many of his staff who remained with the club, relocated to the Midlands with his wife April.
I love living in the area, I love the house, and would consider local rugby related employment he said.
But having lived in Manchester and Leeds he would not rule out working elsewhere for the right job in rugby.
"I don't really know what the future holds for me, but it's quite exciting and quite daunting as well when you haven't got anything mapped out for you.
Once a Wasp, always a Wasp, is the saying that has long since been attached to the famous old club. He is no longer the figurehead, the captain of the ship. Yet Young still has a steadfast belief in the clubs future, the squad he built and those who rescued the club from financial disaster.
I think the future is really bright and really exciting, said Young. You've got an owner, Derek Richardson, who saved the club, and has driven the club to the successes they've had and still has the same motivation and same drive to keep the club moving forward.
"That should never be forgotten or under-estimated.
On top of that, you've got a new chief executive, Stephen Vaughan, coming in with energy, enthusiasm and fresh ideas to take it forward.
There's fantastic, experienced hard working staff, and I've got a huge amount of appreciation for what they did for me. They are Wasps through and through and they are only going to keep working hard to be successful.
We've got a great squad, a mixture of youth and experience. Recently promoted academy players with a year more experience and development coupled with a strong group of experienced players that have been there for a long time, led by club captain Joe Launchbury.
"I said at the start of the year it would be a little bit of a transition year, but next year I feel it could be a really good year for us. I do think the future is bright, also going to a new training facility is exciting.
I think Wasps will start moving all the dark clouds that have been over us for the last 18 months and I think the sky is going to be a lot brighter. The future is going to be a lot more positive and Wasps are going to go from strength to strength and be a real force over the next couple of seasons.

‘Training was tough’ – Fitness fanatic Hannah made a big splash to shed the stones – Stoke-on-Trent Live
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/caticon.gif)
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/comicon.gif)
Activity co-ordinator Hannah Guthrie has lost more than five stone through healthy eating and exercise which included a two-mile open water swim across Lake Windemere.
The 29-year-old who works at the Friends for Leisure charity was determined to shed the weight before her 30th birthday.
But her dream was made even more difficult as she suffers with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
Hannah said: My PCOS symptoms can make things like weight loss loss and maintaining weight quite difficult.
I want to raise awareness of this and show people that it is still possible to do a journey like this and lose weight, even if you do have PCOS.
Over the last three years, Hannah has steadily lost 5st 6lbs with 4st 3lbs of that being achieved following the Slimming World plan.
She originally followed it independently from home, but then decided she wanted the support of a weekly group and consultant to keep her on track.
She added: It has been a slow process over the last three years, but Id rather do that than lose it really quickly. It means that I have been able to maintain it and keep the weight off.
I had done so well in the past and lost two stone. This time, I decided to put more of a focus on my exericse.
I was referred to the NHS One You programme and was given a one year gym membership to get me started. I think my group was the first One You group in Cheshire East. I started to really enjoy exercise and found new ways to keep it interesting and exciting. My partner is really into the gym too so we did things together.
I also did longer, more interesting dog walks and really enjoyed bodypump and Clubbercise classes.
I also did a two mile open water swim across Lake Windermere. Training was tough because it was freezing but on the day it was 22 degrees, so it was quite nice.
For her diet, Hannah, from Congleton, followed the Slimming World plan. It was something that worked for her and she loved the support of a group.
She said: Sometimes I do have to shoot off and go to work, so I will get weighed and just go. But I know that the support is there if I need it.
People there are so supportive. Anyone who is considering joining Slimming World, I would say definitely go for it. Nobody cares how big you are everyone is there for their own reason.
And despite her weight loss success, Hannah is still attending her Slimming World group and carrying on with her journey.
She explained: Because Im quite tall (6ft) my BMI says that I am technically still overweight. So Im carrying on and want to lose maybe another stone.
Anyone who wants to lose weight, I think you have to prioritise your mental health first and make sure that you are doing it for the right reasons
You also have to be optimistic and dont put yourself down you can do it!

Being quarantined at home is a golden chance to keep a track of your habits. While it gives you some extra time to dedicate to workout, it also makes you crave all the tasty snacks you see all the time in your kitchen. This is the time you need to train your mind and not only eat but also exercise consciously. You must switch to a healthier lifestyle and try taking your usual busy life back on a healthy track. Here are a few tips to stay healthy while being quarantined at home- Pen down a schedule
Note down everything you will do during the day on pen and paper. Writing things down makes it easier for you to follow them. Planning a schedule also increases the motivation to stay healthy, which will help you in following the schedule punctually. Set a workout routine
Staying at home also helps you take out time to stick to a workout routine. If you are trying to lose weight for a long time, then make the best use of this time. You need not go to gym or parks for this. All you need is a corner of your house where you have optimum space. It can either be your garden or your living room.
There are ample of workout routines that are available on the internet which you can choose according to your age and body type.
Eat a healthy breakfast
Breakfast is the most important part of the day. It is also said that you must have breakfast like a king. Your breakfast needs to be filled with nutrient rich food to keep you going through the day. Include variety in your breakfast and make combinations of different food items.
You can include fruits, oats, cornflakes, eggs etc. to make your breakfast both, healthy and tasty.
Create a workstation
If you have been asked to work from home, then you must have to follow similar work timings as in the office. In order to complete work efficiently create a workstation for yourself. Assign yourself a comfortable table and set up like an office table.
Now choose a comfortable chair but not too comfortable, as it with lead you to dozing off. Dont sit on bed or slouch on couches as it will affect your posture and overall health.
Take short breaks
Our body requires rest for short periods to compensate for the energy lost. It needs to recharge and re-energize to keep you going for the rest of the day. Make sure you take 3-4 short breaks during your working hours to avoid any kind of exposure.
Plan beforehand about the duration of your breaks and try not to extend those fixed breaks.
Have a wholesome lunch
Make yourself a wholesome lunch and try eating it along with your family. Your lunch must be filled with all kinds of nutrients, proteins and fats required for a healthy body. Watch what you eat and avoid snacking unhealthy food items. Avoid eating from outside and consume only homemade healthy dishes.
Being quarantined at home gives everyone in the family a rare chance to sit and at least have the meals together.
Make indoor strolls a habit
Sitting at the same place for hours together makes your body stiff. It also leads to pain in the spine and joints. Get up from your desk once in a while and take small strolls inside your home itself. To a bit of bending and stretching to keep your joints oiled.
Also pay attention to your mental health along the way and try indulging in different activities to keep yourself busy. Except from work you can also watch your favorite movie, do some gardening, start a hobby and even paint a picture to keep yourself occupied.
Have a timely dinner
For a healthy mind and body, it is recommended to have dinner before 8 pm. It should be the lightest meal of the day and must be eaten in small proportions. Try eating healthy and only eat to satisfy the hunger pangs and not fill yourself unnecessarily.

Speed Keto One Meal a Day: What You Should Know About This Diet – Healthline
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/caticon.gif)
![](https://www.dgw.tv/wp-content/themes/elegant-brit-b/images/comicon.gif)
Keto evangelists have popularized the high fat, low carb diet as a lifestyle. But for the majority of people, the keto diet is restrictive, making it hard to maintain.
Now Speed Keto, an even more extreme form of keto, has arrived on the diet scene.
The newest twist on keto promises to tap into the bodys fat-burning system faster by integrating a controlled version of fasting.
Its common for people to pair the keto diet with intermittent fasting, usually 16:8, which means someone only eats during an 8-hour window each day and fasts for 16 hours.
Speed Keto takes this further by advocating for one meal a day. The meal should be keto-approved, of course.
Potential weight loss is the primary selling point for a majority of the keto curious. Its also been found to lower the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, but it may have negative health effects for other people.
We asked two nutrition experts to review Speed Ketos protocols for benefits and dangers and answer the question: Should you try this diet?
Speed Keto is a means of achieving faster ketosis and was created by Harlan Kilstein, who is not a medical professional or nutrition pro, but a coach, said Cynthia Thurlow, NP, who specializes in nutrition and intermittent fasting.
The Speed Keto program is similar to the traditional keto diet in that it requires individuals to eat a high fat, low carb diet.
Similarly, it also focuses on putting the body in ketosis, a metabolic state when your body burns fat instead of glucose for energy. When your body is in ketosis, its basically a fat-burning machine, thus giving keto its reputation as a weight loss tool.
The difference with Speed Keto? You can only eat one meal a day. The meal should follow the traditional keto guidelines of high fat and low carb macronutrients.
Its main goal is to attempt to become fat-adapted faster than a more traditional ketogenic diet, Thurlow told Healthline.
Fasting can help speed the process of getting into ketosis, explained Tony Castillo, MS, RDN, LDN, nutrition consultant for RSP Nutrition.
It can typically take 2 to 4 days to enter ketosis if you have less than 50 grams of carbs per day, he continued, pointing out that several factors, from what you eat to age and activity level, can extend the amount of time it takes to enter ketosis.
Even though you may enter fat-burning ketosis more quickly on Speed Keto, seeing a lower number on the scale might be misleading.
Since the traditional keto and Speed Keto focus on [eating] fats, your body will excrete more water because fats do not like water. This means the weight loss you see is most likely water weight or even muscle weight, not true fat loss, Castillo said.
While you might enter ketosis more quickly, the experts we talked to mention several downsides to Speed Keto.
Diet programs like these are typically unsustainable and can be challenging to follow long term, Castillo said.
Even just sticking to keto protocols when youre dining out with friends can be challenging. With Speed Keto, dieters face the added test of only eating one meal a day.
Castillo also points out long-term effects of the keto diet, and therefore Speed Keto, are unknown.
Its also important to review your health goals before choosing a program. For example, Speed Keto and the traditional keto diet can make it more difficult to build muscle.
Its also likely to give you the keto flu, temporary flu-like symptoms caused by going into ketosis, and make you feel lethargic.
According to Thurlow, Speed Keto is not a healthy or sustainable nutritional philosophy and should only be considered short term, if at all.
My concern would be that most people would get insufficient macros in during their feeding window, and that could contribute to muscle breakdown, such as catabolism or sarcopenia, and stressors to the thyroid, adrenals, or sex hormones, Thurlow said.
[This diet] is highly bio-individual, meaning that everyone has different factors that can make this a successful or unsuccessful strategy, she said.
Beyond keto protocols, the one meal a day (OMAD) requirement doesnt work for everyone.
Thurlow notes that while there are people who thrive on OMAD, many cannot get all of their macros for an entire day in one meal, and others are way too full and uncomfortable consuming that much food in one sitting.
In addition to the physical effects, the cycle of fasting then eating a large meal may not be good for some peoples mental health.
When diet programs incorporate intermittent fasting, its important to consider past eating history, as intermittent fasting may not be ideal for someone with a history of binge eating disorder, Castillo pointed out.
If youve identified that the intermittent fasting or OMAD elements of Speed Keto work well for you, know that you could apply it to a more balanced diet, too.
Intermittent fasting can be combined with most nutrition programs with great success, not just keto, Thurlow said.

Participating in some type of consistent health improvement plan becomes more and more important as we age! Putting energy into improving nutrition, cardio respiratory endurance, muscular endurance, strength, mobility, and flexibility are great places to start! Now, to increase chances for success in your program, I like to encourage you to develop a purpose of why youre doing it, and use that for inspiration on your way to your goals! Each area is difficult in its own right, so being prepared mentally may be the determining factor in whether you do, or do not follow through, on achieving your goals.
Exercising a little mental focus, planning, and preparation will take your program a very long way, because it prompts you to make well informed positive choices, that lead you the right direction.
Positive mental thoughts are necessary during our long days, hectic schedules, and unlimited stresses of life.
Exercise tends to get lost in the shuffle, due to the feeling of fatigue, and this is absolutely normal. It has been my experience that many times this feeling and reason we dont get our recommended amount of exercise, is not always physical. Instead many times it is because we give ourselves a reason mentally not to exercise, by accepting the thought we dont need to improve our health today! This happens often, so please dont let this stop your progress. Of course be smart, do not exercise or use this principle if you are injured or have health risks. But if you feel healthy and nourished, have no ailments, but just dont feel like exercising, I challenge you to overcome! You can reach a little further for your goals!
There are always many reasons that prevent us mentally from doing what is best for us. I heard someone once say there are no good reasons for not being on a program that keeps you healthy as you age, and I must say that I have to agree! Another good slogan says....if you fail to plan mentally, you might as well plan to fail.
Staying mentally strong, motivated, believing in yourself, and dedicating high proactive energy into sticking to, and following your program is the key to your success! You can absolutely achieve any health, weight loss, and fitness goal you set for yourself, if you just dont quit!
It all goes back to mentally setting your goals! If you have not done so for your health and fitness goals, now is the time to do it! Decide what you really want regarding your health, and take steps now to achieve them. You can do this! Just set short term, intermediate, and long term goals for your programs. The short term goals are important because they provide a focus and roadmap for your day to day activities. The intermediate goals are where you want to be at a specific time in the very near future, and are the catalysts that will ultimately get you to your dream goals! In my opinion everyone deserves their dream goals when it comes to their health, independence, and active quality of life!

FALL RIVER Patients considering weight loss surgery, known as bariatric surgery, now have access to a nationally accredited program, plus the regions first robotic-assisted surgical option.Saint Annes Hospital has announced that its bariatric surgery program has been accredited as a comprehensive center through the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Prior to this the program, was nationally accredited as a low-acuity center limiting access for some patients and reimbursement by some insurers. In addition, Saint Annes has become the first hospital in the region to offer robotic-assisted bariatric surgery, using the advanced da Vinci Xi surgical system. The hospital added this new $2m enhanced technology in January to replace the prior da Vinci system. Meeting national standards for quality care
In the United States, around 15.5 million people suffer from severe obesity, according to the National Institutes of Health. Obesity increases the risks of morbidity and mortality because of the diseases and conditions that are commonly associated with it, such as type II diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease, among other health risks. Metabolic and bariatric surgical procedures have proven to be effective in the reduction of these conditions related to obesity. The MBSAQIP Standards, outlined in the Resources for Optimal Care of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Patient 2016, ensure that bariatric surgical patients receive a multidisciplinary program, not just a surgical procedure, which improves patient outcomes and long-term success. An accredited center offers preoperative and postoperative care designed specifically for obese patients. At Saint Annes, this encompasses ongoing lifestyle support with professionally led support and walking groups among other services.Saint Annes commitment to quality bariatric care begins with appropriately trained staff and leadership surgeons who participate in meetings throughout the year to review its outcomes. They seek continuous improvement to enhance the structure, process and outcomes of the center. After submitting an application, centers seeking MBSAQIP Accreditation undergo an extensive site visit by an experienced bariatric surgeon, who reviews the center's structure, process, and clinical outcomes data. Centers are awarded a specific designation depending on how many patients it serves annually, the type of procedures it provides, and whether it provides care for patients under age 18.
To earn the MBSAQIP comprehensive designation, Saint Annes program has met essential criteria for staffing, training and facility infrastructure and protocols for care, ensuring its ability to support patients with obesity. The center also participates in a national data registry that yields semiannual reports on the quality of its processes and outcomes, identifying opportunities for continuous quality improvement. Addressing the many facets of obesity
Matthew LeMaitre, MD, metabolic and bariatric surgery director at Saint Annes, notes that accreditation as a comprehensive center signifies the programs commitment to high-quality outcomes and a high degree of satisfaction for patients who have struggled with their weight.Obesity is a multi-faceted disease, so patients who have struggled with their weight often try a variety of approaches before they consider surgery, he said. Surgery is just one component of our overall weight loss program that stresses compassionate, personalized care and regular monitoring to ensure that weight is lost in a healthy and sustainable way. We are proud that we have not only met the clinical requirements for accreditation, but, just as important, demonstrated the ongoing lifestyle support and understanding that encourage our patients to be successful.New: Robotic-assisted bariatric surgery
Dr. LeMaitre also notes that Saint Annes has become the regions first hospital to offer robotic-assisted surgery for bariatric surgery. At Saint Anne's Hospital, patients who qualify have the benefit of the region's first robotic-assisted bariatric surgery program using the advanced da Vinci Xi surgical system. With smaller incisions, these patients enjoy a quicker recovery and return to normal activities more quickly than ever before. Its an exciting development in caring for patients.Find out more
