Social media, fitness and more apps risking your security – WPTV.com

Over coffee, on the street and at home, Nia stays connected.

Im on my phone 24/7, said Nia.

Niawe won't use her last nameis a WPTV promotions producer. She once made her social media sites public pages, open to everyone. Beware, cyber security experts warn against giving up privacy for popularity.

Nia found out some of her favorite appsfrom games to fitnesshave been hacked.

Alan Crowetz is the CEO of Infostream, his computer and business consulting firm. Nia sat down with him for a security review and was taken aback by what he easily found.

Passwords, user names, location data, all kinds of stuff about you is out there, said Crowetz.

Nia wondered what a hacked fitness app might have to do with her security.

With the fitness app I can tell when your home or when you are not at home," said Crowetz. "If you run there is (potentially) a physical security type stalker thing with that.

Nia had the perfect example to highlight how you, your family, or friends can inadvertently give your privacy away.

I remember the other day. My dad posted a video of me, and I shared it and my license plate was on it, she said.

Crowetz preaches cyber security and constant vigilance. He urges you to get a password manager and to never re-use a password. Protect yourself and think twice before hitting the send button.

One of the obvious ways is to quit voluntarily sharing information," Crowetz said. "Make sure you lock your profile down and be very good (cautious) about what you post.

Nia is taking the advice to heart. Its been a sobering lesson for someone whose online security was already deemed better than most.

The thing that is just the most shocking to me is that I really thought I was doing a pretty good job of keeping my stuff hidden, she said.

To see if you've been hacked, go to the Have I Been Pwned website by clicking here.

The Fitness Marshall Taught Kelly Clarkson His "Toxic" Dance, and the Audience Got SO Into It – POPSUGAR

We've known and loved The Fitness Marshall, aka Caleb Marshall, ever since we stumbled across his always-on-point pop-song dance workouts on YouTube. That's probably why we felt like proud parents when we caught him on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Feb. 10, teaching his moves to Kelly and her guests, Peter Gallagher of The O.C. and model Lily Aldridge. In just four simple moves, Caleb put together a dance workout to Britney Spears's "Toxic" that the pop princess would be proud of and that Kelly absolutely loved.

Caleb demoed the moves nice and slowly for his celeb students, but when the music kicked in, it was all heart-pumping cardio. The onstage guests and studio audience quickly learned what Fitness Marshall fans already know: once Caleb gets going, it's basically impossible not to jump up, join in the fun choreography, and get caught up in his contagious energy.

"How are y'all feeling? Cause I'm out of breath!" Kelly said. Lily, at least, was totally into it. "I feel in shape! I'm ready to join the Booty Army," she replied (a shout-out to The Fitness Marshall's subscription plan). Peter said he needed a nap, and honestly, that's relatable. Watch the fun segment above, then check out The Fitness Marshall's new dance workout to "Yummy" by Justin Bieber for even more sweat-dripping cardio.

Crunch Fitness Coming to Deptford Mall’s Sears Auto Building Summer 2020. Yes They Have Daycare – 42freeway.com

The Deptford Mall transformation continues with Crunch Fitness planned to take over the entire 30,000 sq ft Sears Auto building in the malls parking lot! Crunch Fitness is a growing full featured fitness center with day care services for gym patrons! They promote High Value at a Low Cost and the base membership is only $9.95!

To give a perspective on size, the Deptford location at 30,000 sq feet will be larger than most area Planet Fitness locations. The location in the former Sears Auto Center is surrounded by a sea of parking spaces which is always a complaint at other gyms. With hundreds of spots surrounding the gym you should never have a problem parking at Crunch Fitness Deptford! Crunch joins an area that recently saw the much smaller Anytime Fitness Deptford close recently, and just 2 years ago the large Edge Fitness opened on Clements Bridge Road.

Deptford Mall owner Macerich just made the announcement on a recent investors earnings call, but Crunch Deptford started their online presence at the end of 2019. (42Freeway was a little behind on this one!) We chatted with franchise owner Zach Gustites who hails from New Jersey and owns the rights to expand Crunch in our area. Currently there are South Jersey locations in Delran and Mooresetown.

If you arent familiar with Crunch Fitness, they started in the late 80s in New York as a fitness studio, and grew to become a full fitness center. For a short while they were owned by Ballys, who many will remember had a large gym just an 1/8 a mile up the road where Mission BBQ stands today. Ballys no longer has any involvement in Crunch.

For the retail center Deptford Mall, this is another awesome signing and continued transformation of the mall after the still recent closing of Sears. In the main Sears mall building, Dicks Sporting Goods is opening later this year on the lower level, and entertainment arcade/bar/bowling center Round One is set to open soon after! (more on that soon!)

Crunch is expanding with a High Value Low Cost plan which starts at $9.95 a month, and offers some add-on options. Youll need to confirm with Crunch when they open their pre-opening mall kiosk, but I am fairly certain Zach said the base price includes day care for one child! Read on for details of their pre-opening free membership contest!

Being a full fitness gym Crunch offers the following summary of features (again check with the Crunch team to confirm all features and prices)

Sign up for more information at their website, and you become eligible for a prize drawing THREE winners of one year Memberships!

Well have more as construction and transformation of the Auto Center progresses!

A big hat-tip to reader Joe who in the comments of another post here mentioned the gym was coming!

PTON vs PLNT: Which Fitness Stock is in the Best Shape? – Yahoo Finance

We are already in February and the New Years resolutions made back at the start of last month are but a distant memory. Often topping the list of pledges to oneself at the start of each year is the promise to cut down on the bad stuff and get into shape. An oft neglected activity, though, once the daily routine kicks back in again.

Consumers, though, are increasingly aware of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, and the trend has spawned a whole industry catering to the fitness minded public.

With this in mind (and body), we thought wed investigate further. Using TipRanks Stock Comparison tool, weve lined up two fitness focused stocks side by side on the treadmill, to take a closer look at why some on the Street believe these two are compelling buys right now. Lets jump right in.

Peloton Interactive (PTON)

One of 2019s high profile IPOs, Peloton caused quite a stir when going public last September; the stationary bicycle company was valued at $8.1 billion on its first day of trading. By the second, it had shed $1 billion of its value, making the companys trading debut one of the worst of the decade. Peloton dusted itself off, got back on the bike and finished off the year on a more positive note, back to roughly its original IPO price.

The company, though, is drawing negative sentiment again this week, following the release of its FQ2 2020 earnings report. Peloton posted revenue of $466.3 million, a year-over-year increase of 77%, and handily beating the estimate of $423.7 million. Net loss per share of $0.20 topped the Streets $0.30 call, too. Estimates which called for 688,800 connected fitness subscribers were left in the dust by the figure of 712,005 a 96% year-over-year gain.

Despite the positive print, following the earnings call, PTON shares were sent tumbling down by over 7% due to soft guidance for the next quarter. For Q3, Peloton expects revenue of between $470 million and $480 million, less than the Streets call of $494 million.

With a 94% customer retention rate, though, Stifels Scott Devitt remains bullish on the bike maker. Devitt points out that the lower Q3 revenue guide was caused by shorter than expected delivery times, which shifted 6,000 Connected Fitness subscribers into Q2 from Q3. The 5-star analyst believes a higher total second half is implied in the companys updated outlook. Pelotons investments in content development and new markets, in addition to its ability to drive engagement with new and existing product offerings, are further encouraging signs.

What does it all mean, then? It means the 5-star analysts rating remains the same, a Buy, but the price target changes gear, up from $37 to $38. The new figure implies upside potential of 36%. (To watch Devitts track record, click here)

The Street is up for the ride, too. 17 Buys and 2 Holds add up to a Strong Buy consensus rating. At $36.94, the average price target suggests possible upside of 33%. (See Peloton stock-price forecast on TipRanks)

Story continues

Planet Fitness (PLNT)

Planet Fitness everyone is welcome strategy is paying off. The affordable gyms and judgement free atmosphere they generate has seen the company provide handsome returns to investors. Over the last five years, PLNTs share price has increased by 427%.

Looking at the business growth, its no wonder investors have been impressed. Totaling over 14 million members, in 2019, the gym franchise added another 261 locations, a 15%-unit growth. The final day of the year saw the opening of its 2000th location in Colorado Springs. PLNT intends to open an additional 1,000 in the next five years, with its sights set on adding the 80% of people over the age of 14 in the US and Canada without a gym membership. The expansion is not limited to North America, either; Planet has just opened its first two locations in Australia. According to the company, a minimum of 35 new additions down under should be expected over the next several years.

Macquaries Paul Golding believes that relative to its peers, Planet Fitness stock is "substantially undervalued". Given the companys annualized growth rate, the 4-star analyst thinks PLNTs low price-point is appealing and its focus on the US market positions it "defensively". In addition, PLNTs penetration rates are rising, with an increasing gym count and further potential runway for comp reacceleration.

Therefore, Golding kept his Outperform rating and $90 price target as is. This conveys the analysts belief PLNT will add a further 9% over the next year. (To watch Goldings track record, click here)

The Street takes a break from the workout and nods in agreement. PLNTs Strong Buy consensus rating breaks down into a unanimous 5 Buys. The average price target comes in at $86.80 and suggests possible gains in the shape of 5%. (See Planet Fitness price targets and analyst ratings on TipRanks)

Louters Fitness Column – Excuses: Ive heard them all – Crookston Daily Times

There are always so many excuses to not exercise. Most people think that getting in shape costs a fortune, when in reality it is how much you want to invest in your health and longevity.

Gym memberships vary between franchises and most offer one-on-one personal training. The trainer is there to hold you accountable, and to show up consistently for workout sessions. If you have difficult time keeping yourself accountable, a trainer is the perfect solution.

If a gym membership and trainer fees are out of your budget, there are still many ways to get fit. At home, workout videos and the workout apps are much cheaper. Most of them have a monthly fee for personalized or general programs that you can do in the comfort of your own home. Minimal equipment is usually needed for these types of programs.

Life gets very busy with work, family, and social time with friends. When do you take time for yourself? There are many benefits to working out: relieve stress, bone strength, flexibility, weight loss, reduce risk of heart diseases, and increase energy.

After intense exercise, some people feel a sense of euphoria, a release of endorphins during exercise. Endorphins are a natural pain reliever produced in the pituitary gland; the more you workout the more changes you will notice in other parts of your routine. The pituitary gland is responsible for many daily bodily functions. For exercise to be effective, you need to be consistent with your program. It is impossible to lose weight or see results without it.

There is always time to workout, you just have to commit and make time. Set goals that are achievable, not impossible. It is very important that your goals are specific and have a set date. Another tactic to see your progress, take before and after photos in the same outfit. A picture puts your progress in better perspective than a mirror.

There are millions of excuses not to workout, but in reality excuses do not burn calories.

When you do start going to the gym, don't worry about what everyone else is doing, just focus on your workout. Once you start to wander and watch others, then you begin the neverending circle of self-love and criticism. It doesn't matter how much weight the guy next to you is lifting, each person is different.

This is your journey to make yourself a better person, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. Our bodies are all so unique and react to exercise differently. Not everyone has to be ripped and bench 300 pounds; just be a healthy version of you.

Can The Mirror become the next Peloton? Here’s all the data. – Thinknum Media

Have you ever looked into your mirror and thought, If only this were also a gym? Maybe you went to a pilates class and considered, This whole experience would be improved if I could mount it on my wall. Well, the folks at Mirror ($MIRROR) are here to help with their state-of-the-art.... mirror.

Now, the Mirror isnt just a mirrored HD screen with a carbon steel frame and mineral bronze powder coat. The Mirror brings fitness into your home with personalized, interactive exercise classes led by the best trainers in the country. All this for a cool $1495, or $42 a month for the rest of your life (three years). On top of the price of the Mirror, you'll pay a monthly subscription of $39.

Needless to say, this product isnt for the average consumer. But its not hard to imagine the demographic, which the companys ads depict with such a heavy hand it almost reads as parody. A toned twenty-something squats in her mid century modern living room. A buff guy practices kickboxing inside what looks like an Italian palazzo, complete with inlaid hardwood floors and one ficus.

These are caricatures of Mirrors target audience, or the people its target audience want to be. The early adopters when the Mirror launched in 2018 consisted of social media influencers and celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Alicia Keys, Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Lady Gaga. The tagged photos on Mirrors Instagram page paint a more diverse picture of its users. But our data suggests its following isnt growing much. It increased 3% this year, while Pelotons($NASDAQ:PTON) following went up 11%.

That said, Mirror plans to expand beyond exercise. Soon, it will offer FaceTime-like communication with teachers, therapists, and all kinds of experts. The company recently introduced meditation guides and kid-friendly Family Fun workout classes. There are currently 139 job openings in the engineering department. The marketing division is looking to hire 57 employees.

With these additional features, Mirror hopes to expand its reach. Perhaps the new marketing team will restrategize its ad campaign to reflect a more relatable consumer, less off-duty model and more 9-5 millennial.

Mirror founder Brynn Putnam told The Atlantic that the company has already sold tens of thousands of Mirrors and finished out last year well above its sales targets. This puts the company in close competition with Peloton, which boasts over 1.4 million members and 577000 machines sold. Mirror and Peloton share strikingly similar products and one central goal: Convenient, on-demand fitness.

At-home exercise equipment is nothing new. You might remember Jane Fondas Thighmaster or the BowFlex or the Shake Weight. People have always been trying to make fitness more convenient. But companies like Mirror and Peloton dont just sell aspirational bodies, they sell aspirational lifestyles. They want your life to revolve around their products. Putnam said she wants the Mirror to be peoples third screen, following their computer and phone of course.

Sure, Mirror can make its ads appeal tomoms with jobs instead of globe-trotting models, but can the company make its product attainable forthe working class?

Thinknum tracks companies using the information they post online - jobs, social and web traffic, product sales and app ratings - andcreates data sets that measure factors like hiring, revenue and foot traffic. Data sets may not be fully comprehensive (they only account for what is available on the web), but they can be used to gauge performance factors like staffing and sales.
