Weight loss story: This guy lost 24 kilos in just 6 months by doing cardio! Here’s how he did it – Times of India

When you are battling excess kilos, it is your own lethargy and the difficulty in performing everyday tasks with ease that make your life really difficult. When 34-year-old Ramniveth G realised that it was getting really difficult to even do the smallest chores, he decided to change his lifestyle for good. Read on to know his inspiring weight loss journey. Name: Ramniveth GOccupation: Electrical engineerAge: 34 years

Height: 5 feet 7 inches

City: ChennaiHighest weight recorded: 99.6 kilos

Weight lost: 24 kilos

Duration it took me to lose weight: 6 months

The turning point: I was trying my best to maintain my weight during my student days but once I began working, my health went for a toss. Thanks to the undefined work-life balance and unhealthy lifestyle, my weight went from 78 kilos to a whopping 99.6 kilos.

Ultimately, my weight touched a massive 100 kilos and I became a borderline diabetic. That is when I realised that enough is enough and I desperately needed to lose weight to get back in shape.

My breakfast: I eat two boiled eggs with a handful of almonds/walnuts and raisins. Sometimes, I also have an avocado smoothie with brown sugar. My lunch: I eat a regular meal with a moderate quantity of rice and more vegetables.

My dinner: Two chapatis or a portion of tropical fruits or a bowl of soup sometimes.

Pre-workout meal: A handful of walnuts and raisins along with a cup of green tea.

Post-workout meal: A cup of low-fat yoghurt

My workout: I started doing cardio for 20 minutes at home. Gradually, I also began going to the gym and used to run on the treadmill for 30 minutes.Low-calorie recipes I swear by: I consume chicken or fish once in a week and completely avoid red meat. I have also stopped eating junk food for once and for all, swapped soft drinks with green tea, included more salads and increased water intake. I also made it a point to only eat homemade food.

Fitness secrets I unveiled: I have realised that strict management of your diet accounts for 70 per cent of your weight loss efforts and the rest 30 per cent is working out properly. So, instead of only sweating it out in the gym, pay attention to what you are eating.

How do I stay motivated? My wife was my biggest motivator as she helped me throughout my weight loss journey. Additionally, my friends and family were my pillars of support and kept me motivated with their compliments and words of motivation.

How do you ensure you dont lose focus? I have understood that the continuous repetition of any behaviour will ultimately become a habit. I tried to lose weight several times and failed. However, I gradually understood that maintaining consistency when it comes to your diet and workout for at least two weeks will lead to visible changes. This in itself is enough to keep you going towards the path of fitness.

Whats the most difficult part of being overweight? I had the habit of buying only a few selected items of clothing before I started gaining weight. However, as the weight kept piling on, I had to buy new outfits every six months as I was no longer able to fit into my old clothes. I had also stopped spending a lot of time outdoors as my confidence had taken a beating. Moreover, I had started to give up on things very easily due to a predetermined mindset which is not my habit.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line? I would like to have a swimmers body with literally zero fat.

Weight loss: I was a size 24 but lost 10 stone to halve my body weight in a YEAR after I couldnt fit into my – The Sun

A SIZE 24 mum-of-two has revealed she shed half her body weight in just a year, after ditching her daily diet of cake and takeaways.

Karen Mannering, from Dorset, was mortified by an unflattering picture of her taken in Jamaica in March 2018 - and vowed to shed 10 stone in just 12 months.

9

9

The 48-year-old, who works as a psychic medium, piled on the pounds when she fell ill with trigeminal neuralgia - a nerve condition which meant she needed brain surgery.

At her biggest, Karen would eat a family sized bag of chocolate for breakfast, snack on cake and sweets for lunch, and polish off a takeaway pizza, fish and chips or Chinese for dinner.

She once tipped the scales at 24st but is now a slim size 10, weighing 10st.

Speaking exclusively to Fabulous Digital, Karen said: "I was really poorly for 10 years, which meant I was at home a lot of the time and feeling pretty low.

"I had brain surgery and I've got a metal plate in my head now. I ate my way through that, then one day I realised 'this has gone too far'."

9

Karen had just come back from holiday with husband Chris, 51, in March 2018 - when she realised she had to make a change.

She said: "Id noticed over the years that the plane belts were getting tighter. On the flight to Jamaica, I was on the verge of asking for an extension.

"And because I didnt want to do that, I literally squeezed myself in and couldnt move for the entire 11-hour plane journey, just because I didnt want to ask for an extension belt.

"Now I can clip it in really easily. I dont even have to loosen it. That was a really big thing for me.

"I couldn't go on fairground rides before, you cant get into them - or are too embarrassed you might not be able to get out again, so I never bothered."

9

9

Karen spent the entire holiday covering up and avoiding the pool, and it wasn't until she saw a photo from the trip in May that she realised just how big she'd become.

She said: "It wasnt until a few weeks later, in May 2018, that I saw that photo on Chris' phone. It destroyed my heart.

"My husband didnt show me for a while because he knew Id be upset.

I literally squeezed myself in and couldnt move for the entire 11-hour plane journey, just because I didnt want to ask for an extension belt

"I got a chest infection on that holiday and it rained the whole time, it was just a really awful holiday.

"I didnt feel confident, didnt want to swim in the sea or do anything. I was covering up the whole time and thinking this is not how I want to be.

"When I got back, I knew I had to do something. I didnt want to go on holiday again, feeling the same way."

Karen's diet before

Breakfast: Family snack bag of chocolate

Lunch: Cake and sweets

Dinner: Takeaway pizza, fish and chips or Chinese.

Karen says: "I dont have any takeaways anymore. I did do home cooking before as well, stuff like lasagnes, but theyd be loaded with cheese and all the bad stuff."

Karen had previously tried everything from Weight Watchers to Slimming World and said she saw results, but could never stay on them for long enough.

She said: "I sat down and did my research. Protein kept coming up as a way to feel full for longer and stop snacking. I devised my own diet based around protein and it really worked for me.

"Now I have six really tiny meals a day, instead of three bigger meals.

9

9

"My portion sizes were huge before. The main part of the meal needs to be protein and a small amount of carbs.

"It is very strict, but because youre eating a lot of protein it fills you up and you tend not to snack as much.

"I found its really more the battle with your mind, trying to curb the little voice in your head saying I want this, I want that."

Karen's diet after

Breakfast: One egg omelette with mushrooms and a bit of cheese

Mid-morning snack: Protein cookie

Lunch: Beans on toast

Mid-afternoon snack: A piece of cheese on a cracker

Dinner: Half a chicken breast and a small amount of potatoes, carrots and apple sauce

Amazingly, Karen hit 10st just a year and a week after going on her diet - and she's now down to 9st 12lb.

She said: "As well as the diet, I started going for walks for up to an hour.

"When that got a bit easier, I started going to the gym. I went nearly every day, on the treadmill, rowing, all sorts.

"After I'd lost 5st, I sat down with a personal trainer and he said 'how are you doing?' I said 'I want to lost 10st' but he said 'I've never seen anyone lost a stone in a year'.

"That gave me even more motivation to prove him wrong. I'm quite proud of that."

9

9

Karen is sticking to her diet for maintenance but now allows herself the odd treat - and is even trialling her diet plan on three mates, who've all lost 7lb in just a few weeks.

She said: "My weight was definitely affecting my health, but it was more the emotional side than the physical side.

"My confidence was at an all-time low. From the moment you wake up in the morning until you go to sleep at night, it's constantly on your mind.

The personal trainer said 'I've never seen anyone lose a stone in a year'. That gave me even more motivation to prove him wrong

"I definitely notice a difference with other people now. I don't know if it's just how I feel, but I feel like my opinions are more valued now I'm smaller.

"My husband has always said he loves me no matter what, and he genuinely does. But my family were starting to worry about my weight and my health.

"When you finally hit your goal weight, it's a funny feeling. I'd centred my whole life around losing weight, for a year it was all I thought about.

"Then it's like 'what do I do now?' But it's amazing, it was a great feeling. I wish I'd done it sooner."

Last week, a woman revealed she'd shed 3 stone by drinking coffee and exercising LESS.

How Burn Fitness Jonathan Cruz went from doctor to gym owner – Boston Herald

Sometimes, dedicating your life to wellness is exactly what the doctor prescribed. In the case of Burn Fitness Jonathan Cruz, he opted to go full-time with exercise and founded his Boston-based boutique studio after leaving the medical field.

I started teaching classes and I started to personal-train clients while I was still in medical school, Cruz told the Track of his graduate studies at Dartmouth College.

It all kind of started because I was a triathlete and needed to find ways to cross-train, he continued. I decided to try some group exercise classes and when I tried those, I decided I wanted to go and teach them.

After finishing medical school and stretching all the way through his residency, Cruz kept leading sweat sessions at least a couple of times each week. His career as a neuropathologist, which included a gig within the highly lucrative pharmaceutical industry, didnt even detract from his time in the gym.

I decided to retire early from my career and that was in 2001, but continued to teach more classes, Cruz said. But I didnt retire necessarily because I wanted to go and do this.

Cruz stressed that an early departure from the workforce was always in the cards for him. But he didnt know that his planned professional pause would only be temporary, or that it would eventually end in him becoming a gym owner. He spent a few years of his newfound free time traveling as intended until he decided he needed more.

It wasnt until years later that I decided to go back and do something completely different, Cruz said. After about four years, I came out of retirement and opened up Burn in the South End. It was about helping out people in a different way than how I was helping people before.

I wanted more stimulation so I decided to do this, to start my own business, he added. I didnt have a business background. I didnt go to business school. It was all self-taught, self-learned. It was tough. Every single day I had to wear a different hat. One day, I was the business guy. One day, I was the janitor. Another day, I was the architect.

And of course, every day Cruz is still a doctor. Its been almost six years since hes opened Burn Fitness first South End location and three years since he added its Back Bay outpost, but he still taps into his old M.D. skills.

I understand the body a lot better than other people in the fitness industry, Cruz said. It gives me a different perspective. When Im training my personal training clients, Im able to explain some of the real physiological changes that theyre going through and what were trying to do.

It helps focus on prevention of injuries and recovery from injuries because I understand the body and its different systems, he added. I do what I do because I love it. I did have a really good career before. I went through a lot of education and training, but what Im doing now is something I really enjoy.

Winners of the 2020 Girls and Women in Sports and Fitness Courage and Ambassador awards – Lincoln Journal Star

Lincoln Northeast's Hannah Ray finishes firstduring the A-4 district girls cross country racein October 2019 at Pioneers Park.

Gymnastics wasnt a good fit for Hannah Ray, and her 5-foot, 2-inch frame didnt lend itself to basketball.

In the fall of 2016, Beth Ray encouraged her daughter to go out for cross country at Lincoln Northeast High School. Hannah had run cross country and track in middle school, but lacked expertise in training and competing.

As a high school freshman, she started out of the blocks slowly, finishing her first race in over 23 minutes, but Coach John Snoozy and some of the upperclassmen saw potential in the diminutive freshman. Two weeks later, she cut 90 seconds off her time and earned a second-place medal at a freshman meet.

Three weeks later, she ran 20:07 at a talent-laden district meet, followed by a 19:41 and 15th place at state.

Steadily improving

Improvement has been a benchmark of her glittering career. Entering her final track season at Lincoln Northeast, the girl who once looked to carve her niche in athletics has rewritten virtually every girls distance record on the books at the esteemed 78-year-old high school.

The four-time state cross country meet qualifier and three-time Class A state medalist holds all of her high schools cross country course records, including a school all-course record time of 18 minutes, 51 seconds in the 5K.

Her senior season of cross country last fall included an individual title at the A-4 district meet, where she ran 19:07, and a fifth-place finish in a talented Class A field.

On the track oval, Hannah holds school records in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs with times of 5:08 and 11:17, respectively. Her track goals this spring are to lower her school-record time in the 1,600 meters and to finish the 3,200 meters in under 11 minutes.

Middle distance is not her forte, but she hopes to add the 800-meter mark to her slew of school records this spring.

With the girls running programs low in numbers, Hannah has found a warm reception while practicing with the Northeast boys teams. "We dont have a lot of depth in the girls programs, so theres no girl there to push me," said Hannah. "The guys have been very supportive of having me run with them."

Lincoln Northeast's Hannah Ray (4) and Lincoln Southwest's Lindsey Blehm race in the 3,200-meter run May 10, 2019 during the A-1 district track meet at Beechner Athletic Complex.

Scholarly, too

Hannah also posts impressive numbers in the classroom, where she has posted a cumulative GPA of 4.371. She plans to major in biology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Hannah has been an ambassador for our sport among others, said her head coach, John Snoozy. At this years state cross country meet, multiple coaches told me how impressed they were with Hannah as a distance runner and her display of sportsmanship with other competitors.

The daughter of Chad and Beth Ray has been selected as one of two Star City Sports Youth Athletes of the Year and will be honored at the upcoming Girls & Women in Sports & Fitness banquet.

Ultima Fitness closing in Wellington, memberships being transferred to other gyms – WPTV.com

WELLINGTON, Fla. Ultima Fitness in Wellington will close down as of 5 p.m. Friday, the gym tells WPTV.

Its very disappointing to see something like this happen, says Donta Finney.

Management at the fitness center, which is located at 2799 W. Forest Hill Boulevard, Taekwondo and CrossFit classes will continue until Jan. 31.

The price went up overnight via email, Finney says.

On Thursday, members were trying to figure out where they would go and what was happening to their money. Randy Riccardy says his wife recently had paid for a one year membership.

She signed up for an annual and only got four months out of it so were just looking for a refund on the difference, Riccardy says.

Members say rates at the club has increased in the last few months in some cases doubling as the owners say they were trying to offset rent increases at the property at Wellington Trace and Forest Hill Blvd.

Bainbridge WCP Ltd., owners of the building insist rents were not raised other than a 3% hike for consumer price index.

Gym officials said all non-personal training memberships will be transferred to Youfit's Lime membership at a rate of $24.99 per month.

Clients may visit any Youfit location, but the closest is 13865 Wellington Trace C in Wellington.

Ultima Fitness members who wish to cancel their membership must do so through Youfit.

If you have a personal training membership, your membership and remaining sessions will be transferred on Friday to Resilient Fitness, which is located at 11596 Pierson Road Suite 10 in Wellington.

Members who wish to to cancel their personal training memberships must do so through Resilient Fitness.

After the Taekwondo and CrossFit classes end at Ultima Fitness on Jan. 31, they will be transferred to unspecified locations.

Dana Perino: Trump impeachment and physical fitness What to do when you sit for hours watching trial – Fox News

President Trumps impeachment trial in the Senate got underway at a tough time for people trying to keep their fitness resolutions in 2020. The days are very long when each side gets (and takes) 24 hours for opening statements.

Lets take, for example, Dry January. Who among us can stick to that goal after a day of impeachment? The only thing I really wanted after a day of sitting for several hours listening to the House managers was a glass of Cabernet. Just one! I gave up on that resolution on the first day. Oh, well. Theres always next year!

And then there is the sitting. And the sitting and the sitting. Sitting is the new smoking, havent you heard? While we have been sitting and listening and we are listening, we promise! our posture is compromised and our legs are going numb. It is like we are on a non-stop flight around the world. And the entertainment system stopped working after the first hour.

GREGG JARRETT: UNDER DEMS TRUMP IMPEACHMENT JUSTIFICATION, LINCOLN WOULDVE BEEN IMPEACHED

I asked my fitness trainer what he suggested I do during these long days in a chair. Aside from getting a workout in the morning and some yoga or Pilates after work, here are his suggestions:

Fox News impeachment coverage features Juan Williams, Dana Perino, Andrew McCarthy and Katie Pavlich

Blood flow and circulation

At least once an hour, do some ankle rolls, point and flex your feet, and extend your leg from your knee. Do some neck rolls to keep your shoulders and upper back from getting too tight. Just like being on a long flight.

Higher-intensity squats. Every time you stand up and sit down counts. (Note: this is a bit hard to do sitting next to my colleagues and being on camera, but I get his point).

Mobility

Keep everything moving that you can. Simple neck rolls, arm circles, chest stretch with hands clasped behind your back, standing hip flexor and quad stretch, Figure Four stretch, waiters bow ... you get the idea.

Reducing tension

Release muscle tension and deal with boredom or frustration when you cant move (he knows me ... and impeachment ... well).

Progressive relaxation (focus on each body part starting at the feet and working your way up and spend a few seconds getting it to relax. By the time you get to your head, you should feel calmer for a while).

Box breathing (imagine a box then breathe in for four counts, hold for four counts, breathe out for four counts, and hold again for another four counts before starting the cycle again). This can also help with falling asleep.

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR OPINION NEWSLETTER

Hydration

Drink 8 ounces every two hours or less (more reason to leave and use the restroom, which means standing and walking).

Nutrition

Small snacks, like collagen bars, dont have too much sugar ... but allow you to consume enough energy to stay awake!

Finally, I asked about the wine. Oh, definitely. You can have wine.

Hes the best.

Ive managed to do most of these things during the first week of impeachment wish me luck for the second week!

FLATIRON, Manhattan We can run for miles and take spin classes, but when it comes to stretching, it seems like that's the part we walk away from.

So now the folks at the new boutique fitness studio, Stretch*d, want to do the work for you. They want to help you get loose.

It's the newest fitness trend, assisted stretching. It's supposed to help improve flexibility, lower your risk of injury and help you relax.

People who sit at their desk all day and people who sit in front row of spin class, being stretched by someone else is a lot more effective and enjoyable.

Marathon runner, Yosef Herzog comes here twice a week.

This place has helped me round out my recovery and ascend my prevention arsenal.

The owners of Stretch*d even said stretching can give you some height by improving your posture.

Fitness tips: how to begin with online yoga – The Guardian

Choose a good spot Find a comfortable, quiet space, with room for your mat and for you to stretch your arms out and up. Make sure you can see the screen clearly: once youre used to the postures, youll rely on it less. Wear fitted clothes so they dont hang over your face when your heads lowered, and no socks.

Pay attention You wont have a teacher to help with alignment, so watch the instructor carefully; avoid poses that might hurt your neck, or that involve twisting too much. If something feels too complicated, stop. Start with an easier style, such as hatha.

Find a teacher you like Spend time looking for a teacher who resonates with you. You could try 50 classes before deciding on the right person. Choose levels and styles that work for you. You can repeat classes you enjoy as many times as you want.

Stay motivated Try to allocate a regular time for your practice. Subscribe to a channel, so you receive notifications when classes are posted, and participate in an online challenge for a month, say.
