Lower testosterone, long journeys or overheated dressing rooms? Why is it harder to win away from home? – The Athletic

I do think there is a psychological aspect at play, explains one former Premier League manager. It is on everyone involved in the game, almost expecting a good result when you play at home and perhaps a more out-of-your-hands result when you play away from home.

Home advantage is one of footballs most widely embraced notions and, indeed, the statistics back up the theories. Since its foundation in 1992, 10,725 Premier League fixtures have taken place and 46 per cent have resulted in home wins, compared to 28 per cent ending in away victories. Before this weekends latest round of results in the 2019-20 season, Europes top five leagues of England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France posted 45 per cent home wins and 31 per cent away victories.

And yet, why is it, in a sport increasingly blessed by consistent conditions luxury travel, pristine pitches, monitored sleep, controlled nutrition, identical footballs that home...

‘Sister Wives’: Kody’s Kids Cringe As He Talks About His ‘Testosterone’ and Having More Children – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Kody Brown of TLCs Sister Wives might already have a whopping 18 children with his four wives, Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn, but it looks like he might still be open to more.

On the Jan. 19 episode of Sister Wives, Four Wives, One House, the 51-year-old polygamist patriarch shocked some of his family members by admitting that he didnt know if he was completely done with having kids.

When Kody drew up the plans for his dream home, which would include all of his four wives under one roof, he admitted he was leaving room for the potential of even more little ones. Kody and his 41-year-old fourth wife Robyn are the only Brown couple still preparing for the possibility of additional kids.

The Sister Wives star told producers that he believed he was done with having more biological kids, but he wasnt completely sure. I realize that Im 50 and so by the time Ariella [his youngest daughter] is done being my little girl, that Ill be 70.

He added that he wasnt sure whether it was his ego talking or a real desire for more kids that made him want to keep that door open. You know, I was either looking forward to being a father or a father for the past 35 years, he explained. And Im worried that its sort of a detachment to my ego, that its maybe just what I do so I want to keep doing it. Its a weird thought that I am not going to have any more kids.

Robyn agreed, saying she wasnt completely ready to close herself off to the possibility of adding more children into the Brown family. To be honest, some of the kids have been jerks about their dad and him having kids and stuff like that, Kodys youngest wife said. And its like, hes trying to say, Im young enough to have more kids if I want to.

At a Christmas Eve presentation with many of the Sister Wives kids and all four wives, Kody revealed his plans for a massive one-family home. Along the way, he let it slip that he wasnt sure there wouldnt be more Brown kids to come.

A lot of people, a lot of my peers, are looking forward to an empty nest. Ive never been that person, Kody told his family during the presentation. Im constantly debating with myself if Aris the last or not.

The room fell into a surprised hush as some of the adult kids and other wives wondered if there might be a new baby coming along.

Second wife Janelles daughter Maddie Brown Brush (who has two kids of her own now), exclaimed in response, Youre debating if Aris the last or not? Different subject, different subject, her husband Caleb Brush said, trying to ease the tension.

Do you see, Ive got a washboard stomach, sweetheart, Kody shot back. Thats from testosterone, I promise you.

Oh my god! Maddie exclaimed as the room exploded in uncomfortable laughter, partly due to the TMI implications about Kodys ongoing sex life.

Christines daughter Aspyn Brown Thompson, who recently married Mitch Thompson, cried out, Im not listening anymore!

I hope you stay in your cabin! another daughter joked.

On a more serious note, Robyn explained that she and Kody tried to make decisions about more children based on spiritual guidance. The fundamentalist Mormon family believes that children are born because souls in heaven are trying to come earthside.

Kody and I are always trying to make sure that our family is complete and that there isnt some sweet little spirit in heaven, waiting to be born into our family, the Sister Wives star told TLC producers. We just want to make sure that Ari really, truly is the last of our family.

Still, Robyn wasnt entirely happy about Kody spilling details about their pillow talk to the rest of the family. But I dont know what to do with the idea of him sitting here talking about it in front of everybody on Christmas Eve with this house, she admitted. I dont know what to do with this right now.

Doctors seek couples to test male birth control gel – and they’ll get paid 3,000 – Mirror Online

In news that will come as music to the ears of many women, scientists have developed a male birth control gel - and theyre looking for volunteers to test it out.

Researchers at the University of Kansas have developed the gel, and are seeking willing couples to try it.

The clear gel needs to be applied to the mans shoulders every day for two years, where its absorbed into the skin.

Couples will be paid $4,000 (3,063) in compensation to try it, although they must be willing to have a baby in case the gel fails.

The gel, called NES/T is expected to be more effective than condoms, but can cause a range of side effects, including acne and weight gain, according to the researchers.

It contains two hormones. The first hormone, progestin, naturally blocks the action of testosterone, keeping the testes from producing sperm.

Meanwhile, the second hormone, testosterone, ensures that the mans levels are normal, preventing side effects such as low sex drive, mod changes and erectile dysfunction.

According to the researchers, the gel is 90% effective - roughly 3% more reliable than condoms.

Thankfully, these effects are reversible within three to four months.

For the trial, men will be paid $2,985 (2,286) to visit the clinic 31 times over two years, while their partner will receive $1,140 (873) for visiting 10 times.

Overall, the researchers are seeking 420 couples, including at centres in Edinburgh, Manchester, Los Angeles, Washington, Italy and Sweden.

Further details about the clinical trial can be found here .

Diet Demand Touts Benefits of Heart Healthy Diets for Longevity and Weight Loss – Yahoo Finance

Baton Rouge, LA, Jan. 20, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- If youre looking to start 2020 with a leap towards a healthier lifestyle, a heart-healthy diet is one of the best places to start. Heart healthy diets can go a long way toward protecting and preserving your bodys most important muscle. They also tend to have an obviously, positive impact on the rest of the body and mind. A focus on heart healthy eating is one way to promote longevity, youthfulness and weight control in your own life. Currently, a few popular heart healthy options stand out the most according to telemedicine weight loss leader, Diet Demand.

TheDASHDiet. According to Dr. Burns - Diet Demands Medical Director, DASH was created as a way to lower blood pressure based on the theory of sodium causing hypertension. It stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension and works for a percentage of the population who are hypertensive. For these sodium sensitive individuals (maybe only 25% of the population), this method can provide some benefit. It also helps to restore some mineral imbalances that contribute to high blood pressure. However, Dr. Burns believes that there is more to improving heart health, Avoiding processed foods are sound, however the guidelines on specific macronutrient intake are missing. Also, weight management should be a key aspect of heart healthy dieting. Being that DASH was created for hypertension, the primary purpose of this diet is not weight management. As far as weight loss is concerned, only lower calorie versions of DASH would trigger weight loss, but that would apply to them doing any lower calorie diet. Additionally, for people who are following lower carb diets for weight loss, the sodium requirement actually goes up, along with the other electrolytes of potassium and magnesium due to the effect of the kidneys wasting electrolytes more rapidly while the body goes into ketosis. Believe it or not, the daily sodium requirement is actually higher on a lower carb diet than a high carb diet.

The Mediterranean diet is also touted for its heart-healthy benefits. Unlike the DASH diet whose primary purpose is the reduction of salt, Mediterranean style eating is more heavily focused on the incorporation of heart-healthy omega3s and fats such as olive oil, fatty fish and avocados. Since whole foods are implemented, sodium reduction is somewhat a part of this diet since processed foods are minimized. Diet Demand, a nationally recognized virtual weight loss program incorporates heart-healthy strategies in its customized diet and weight loss coaching methods. Its Jumpstart Diet, focuses is on balanced nutrition and initial calorie reductions between 800-1200 calories to help patients at risk for heart disease with quick weight loss.

Diet Demand provides certified weight loss doctors and coaches available by phone 24/7 to help with meal planning, grocery shopping, dining out and more. Theres nothing better than having personalized help via certified weight loss professionals who can review your plan and help you along the way.

A better solution. Most diets have a one-size-fits-all strategy, so its assumed that what works for some people will work for you as well. Unfortunately, many factors can determine how well a specific diet works for you. Diet Demand takes a personalized approach by gathering information on your individual body macros in order to develop a diet that is specific to your needs. Due to the success of this customized model, Diet Demand clients have a 94 percent success rate.

Plant-based lifestyle: A ‘diet that fits all sizes’ – Northern Virginia Daily

WINCHESTER Those looking to get healthy this year might be tempted to consider a fad diet. But health professionals say its healthier and more practical to choose a healthy lifestyle instead.

Plant-based diets are becoming all the rage as more and more options for vegans make their way to area restaurants and grocery stores.

These are signs of a culture shift, said Donna Michel, a retired nephrologist in Winchester who also has a certificate in plant-based nutrition and is board certified in lifestyle medicine.

When we talk about plant-based diets for health, she said, the things that were mainly talking about are avoiding animal products, avoiding eating added oils and eating primarily whole plant foods.

The beauty of a low-fat, high fiber food plan, she said, is that participants dont have to count calories or portion out food. They can eat as much as they need to because its healthy and is packed with fiber.

You feel full, you feel satisfied, youre not looking for the next thing to eat, she said. You lose weight, and once you lose it, you maintain it. And I think thats what makes this sort of a diet successful, because its not technically a diet. What it is is a lifestyle change.

Why plant-based?

Vegans avoid animal products for various reasons, from ethical concerns to health concerns to personal preference, but advocates say that animal products also are not worth the cost.

Protein is readily available from plants, Dr. Neal Barnard recently told health professionals at a program at Winchester Medical Center.

Meat and dairy contain hormones and fat, he said, egg yolks raise blood cholesterol, and egg whites are simply a glob of animal protein.

Choosing plant-based foods over others comes down to avoiding missed opportunities to eat something healthier, Dr. Michael Greger writes at his website nutritionfacts.org, a nonprofit public service providing free updates on the latest in nutrition research.

[T]heres an additional opportunity cost to eating unhealthy foods beyond just how bad they themselves may be for our health, he writes.

In terms of weight loss, he said it matters how people get their calories (the energy content of food.)

A calorie is not necessarily a calorie, Greger says in a trailer for his new book How Not to Diet, posted at his site.

A hundred calories of chickpeas has a different impact than 100 calories of chicken or Chiclets based on their different ... factors such as absorption, appetite or our microbiome, he said. [E]ven the exact same foods eaten differently can have different effects. The context in which we eat matters too.

The terms vegan and plant-based are interchangeable, Michel said, but plant-based carries with it a connotation of being healthier than a vegan diet that simply eliminates meat, dairy and eggs.

A vegan diet can still be high in fat, sugar and other refined carbohydrates while being low in fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans and legumes.

Barnard and Michel also stressed that those who dont eat meat should take a Vitamin B-12 supplement.

Plant-based diets are successful for weight loss because people can eat a greater volume of food so they dont feel deprived, Michel said.

Youre replacing high-calorie density foods with large quantities of low-calorie density foods, she said. You can eat till youre full, and thats the whole thing.

She referenced the 2017 BROAD study, a randomized, controlled trial that used a whole food plant-based diet to address obesity, ischaemic (coronary) heart disease and diabetes. It was published in the journal Nutrition & Diabetes and is indexed online at ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28319109.

The study concluded that it led to significant improvements in BMI, cholesterol and other risk factors. To the best of our knowledge, this research has achieved greater weight loss at 6 and 12 months than any other trial that does not limit energy intake or mandate regular exercise.

Michel said trial participants lost an average of 19 pounds during the three-month study, but even after six-month and 12-month check-ins had maintained their weight loss.

Making the switch

Those starting a plant-based diet should know that non-meat and non-dairy options can be highly processed, greatly reducing their fiber and nutritional density while increasing sodium.

Unlike some other diets, though, the plant-based diet embraces nutrient-rich carbohydrates.

Carbs arent what people should be worried about, she said. Refined carbohydrates and refined starches are the problem.

Avoiding processed foods and oils isnt always easy, though, and Michel said she aims to keep those types of foods to 20 percent of her diet.

In general, she tries to avoid highly processed foods such as chips, flaked cereals and fake meat, instead choosing minimally processed foods like steel-cut oats and fresh tofu, or moderately processed foods like applesauce and rolled oats.

It does take a little bit of planning, she said. It doesnt have to be done expensively.

Beans and rice are inexpensive, she pointed out, and although certain fruits and vegetables (berries, celery and anything with a thin skin) are healthier if organic, she said its more important not to avoid eating produce.

I think part of the reason why plant-based diets are so foreign for people is its not the way we grew up, she said. Its not the way we learned how to eat. Its not what our food culture is in this country.

However, she said its a lifestyle anyone can do if they make the effort to learn about and prepare healthy foods.

Its the best diet for weight loss. Its the best diet for almost any condition, she said.

You have one diet that fits all sizes. I think thats the real beauty of it.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has an app for starting a plant-based diet, called the 21-Day Vegan Kickstart, for Apple and Android devices. For more information, visit kickstart.pcrm.org/en.

Scandal-hit Japan lawmakers sorry but otherwise tight-lipped as Diet opens – The Japan Times

Former Cabinet ministers and lawmakers involved in gift and money scandals apologized again Monday as they returned to the Diet for its ordinary session, but offered no new details despite mounting calls for them to explain themselves.

I feel deeply sorry for harming public trust in politics, former Justice Minister Katsuyuki Kawai told reporters as the regular Diet session started. I should refrain from comment as investigations are underway.

Kawai and his wife, Upper House lawmaker Anri Kawai, both from the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, have faced allegations that they were involved in daily allowance payments by her office to campaign staffers for the July Upper House election that exceeded their legal limit.

Prosecutors have already searched their offices, alleging that the countrys public elections law may have been breached.

Anri Kawai told reporters, I will explain when investigations are done.

Katsuyuki Kawais resignation as justice minister in October came only days after Isshu Sugawara gave up his post as trade minister over separate money and gift-giving allegations.

Sugawara made his first public appearance in about three months Monday after suffering from what he described as sleeping disorders.

Surrounded by about 50 reporters, Sugawara declined to give details, noting that a criminal complaint against him had been filed with Tokyo prosecutors.

I apologize for my resignation causing a stir and trouble to many people, Sugawara said.

If requested by the authorities, I will cooperate sincerely. Id like to explain the whole story at an appropriate time, a sweating Sugawara said.

The former trade minister quit after a weekly magazine reported that his secretary had offered 20,000 ($182) in condolence money to the bereaved family of a supporter in his Tokyo constituency in mid-October.

The magazine also alleged that Sugawara had handed expensive melons and crabs to local supporters.

The public offices election law bans politicians from making donations to voters in their home constituencies. Politicians are allowed to offer money personally at ceremonies such as weddings and funerals.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe acknowledged his responsibility for appointing Kawai and Sugawara in a Cabinet reshuffle in September.

As the 150-day Diet session began, opposition parties were preparing to grill Abe over a controversial state-funded cherry blossom-viewing party and a bribery scandal related to the introduction of casinos in Japan.

The administrations casino push suffered a setback after Tsukasa Akimoto, a former LDP lawmaker who led the effort, was arrested on suspicion of receiving money from a Chinese gambling company that had sought to launch a casino business in Japan.

LDP lawmaker Toshimitsu Funahashi, one of the five lawmakers to whom the Chinese firm reportedly paid money, bowed in apparent apology to the prime minister.

Funahashi, who has denied receiving money from the Chinese company, said to reporters on Monday, I dont have anything to say.

Another lawmaker Mikio Shimoji was expelled from Nippon Ishin no Kai after admitting to receiving 1 million from the Chinese company. He only said he is not going to talk.

The average adult will try this shocking number of diets in their lifetime – Ladders

As of 2018, the weightloss market is worth an estimated $70 billion. This staggering figure is staffed by the 45 million people that take up at least one new diet per year.

When everything is taken into account the average adult will try about 126 different diets in their lifetime.

This data comes courtesy of a new survey conducted by One Poll and commissioned by Love Fresh Berries.

The three most popular reasons the respondents picked up an emergency diet are as follows: wanting to be more satisfied when looking in the mirror(24%), preparing for holidays or a vacation where a lot of food will be served (21%) and getting ready for a big event (18%.)

A lack of consensus regarding long-term application kept the vast majority of the 2,000 participating respondents from seeing a diet through to their goal weight. Fifty-two percent of the study pool said that they didnt really know what made one regimen more sustainable over another.

An additional 20% admitted that they have no idea where to find reliable nutrition guidelines. In fact, the respondents were so perplexed by diet science 33% thought that it was actually healthier to eat fewer fruits.

In their defense, nutrition standards are infamously inconsistent, especially as it pertains to fad diets. Sadly this is by design. As previouslyreported by Ladders, theJournal of Public Policy and Marketingidentified four commercial tactics used by name brand companies to capitalize on emergency trend diets i.e underscoring things like low fat to belie the impression that a product is healthy even though there are a myriad of products that are low in fat and high in other things that do not contribute to optimal health.

There are plenty of trendy diets that offer substantive benefits but only if you adopt them with the long-view in mind.

Just about 50% of the participants looked to Google when in the market for a new crash diet,27% would consult a medical professional,15% rely on a combination of social media and self-help books and the remaining kept an eye out for whatever their favorite celebrity was doing it.These routes led to the Keto diet the most often, followed by intermittent fasting.

Irrespective of the method of discovery most dropped their diet plan afterjust six days.

Despite this average 16% said that they were so desperate to lose weight quickly they would drink12glasses of lemon juice every day if it meant they would. Some said instead of lemon juice they would use baby food and one in 20 said that they would eat a tapeworm to slim down.

The reasons for dropping diets were varied. For some, the side effects associated with the early stages of emergency diets, namely fatigue (21%), weakness (29%), and headaches (26%), were just too much to bear.

Others enjoyed food too much.Chocolate, bread, andpastawere the top three most difficult foods to cut.

January tends to be the month when people embark on fad diets as a quick fix. However, we know that it isnt a sustainable or even healthy approach, explained Love Fresh Berries chairman Nick Marston in a statement. Instead, nutritionists advise that we follow evidence-based nutritional advice and look for a well-balanced diet that does not cut out any food groups. Incorporating lots of fruit and vegetables is important, including berries as they have many important nutritional benefits.

Sticking to a diet plan doesnt exclusively come down to self-control. Research has shown that those who establish goals that go beyond cosmetics not only commit to their diets longer theyre also more forgiving of themselves when they breach them. This mindset is also helpful when finding transitioning to a regimen more aligned with your specific objectives.

Make a plan, consider a contingency and accept that lapses are inevitable.

For optimal benefits, try to eliminate or drastically limit the intake of sugars and starchy carbs for the week. You can replace these foods with healthier alternatives such as lean meats, eggs, fish, etc.
