First things first, a seven-day crash diet or crash dieting in general cannot and will not help you lose weight. Crash dieting basically forces you to cut down your food intake very drastically. This pattern of eating/dieting is extremely unhealthy.
Now, that this point is through (hopefully), wed like to throw light on a dietary approach that can and will help you lose weight a diet made in accordance with your macros and lifestyle as it did for 24-year-old Ishit Vyas, who created one for himself after realising the perils of crash dieting.
Vyas tells us that in 2016 he realised that he was in a terrible shape. Back in November 2016, post my birthday actually, I was looking through some pictures, my friends and I had clicked to share on social media when I couldnt even find a single presentable photo of myself to share online. This one incident motivated me to lose weight and get fit.
I weighed 97 kgs at this point, and commenced on my weight loss journey by going on crash diet but that didnt work out for more than a couple of days. I had started getting major hunger pangs soon after I began. So, I made a diet plan for myself considering the nutritional value of foods and their relation with my body.
"Below, I have highlighted this diet plan. Also, I am a vegetarian. So, the diet plan that helped me lose 30 kgs and trim from 97 kgs to 67 kgs was 100 per cent vegetarian."
"My diet comprised a lot of boiled food, fruits, soups and juices. To break it down further, these 7 food items comprised my daily diet:
1. Boiled mixed pulses
2. Boiled mixed vegetables
3. Boiled mixed dals
4. Juice of different boiled vegetables (The juice of bottle gourd + tomato helps speed the process of weight loss)
5. Fruits (Except some like mangoes, which can actually help increase your weight)
6. Roasted/raw peanuts/chickpeas - for when you get hungry during the day
7. A small packet of oats
I used to eat boiled vegetables, boiled mixed beans and boiled mix dal and oats for all my meals, all rotationally, of course. For breakfast, I used to eat one khakra and a cup of milk with honey.
I used to get done with my last meal between 6:00-8:00 pm. The proportion of this meal wasnt fixed, except for oats. For the case of oats, I used to consume one serving pack of oats, which is readily available in the market. I also used to also drink a glass of mixed juice made from boiled bottle gourd and tomatoes.
To make everything listed above tasty, add some onion, garlic, spices, salt, lemon or Maggi masala according to your taste. You can also include curd as an option or drink buttermilk. After 3 months of following this meal plan, after I found a visible difference in my weight, I started taking one cheat meal every month.
Notably, except following this meal plan religiously, Vyas would go for a 5 km-long brisk walk daily to help get in shape.
Walking is the best form of free physical exercise that burns calories and belly fat. It also helps preserve lean body muscle. Read more about its benefits here.
Says Vyas, my daily schedule would comprise going for walks on 3 consecutive days and then taking a day to rest. After losing a considerable amount of weight, I started doing planks. Planks helped a lot to reduce belly fat.

For beginners, start with avoiding junk and late-night food cravings.

35-year-old Sachin Mathapati, who at his heaviest weighed 106 kgs, tells us that he experimented with many different diet plans in the last 3-4 years GM diet (stopped on the 2nd day), No rice diet, no salt diet but none of them made any significant difference until he came across keto.
A keto diet (also known as the ketogenic diet) is a special diet plan that ensures you are eating foods that are high in fat (about 70 per cent), moderate in protein (about 25 per cent) and extremely low in carbohydrates (about 5 per cent). The main purpose of this diet is to help your body achieve the state of ketosis. When in ketosis, your body is constantly burning fat, and at a rate higher than any other diet plan will be able to help you achieve. You can read more about the keto diet here.
Says Sachin, I was always slightly overweight but never obese. In the last few years, however, I had gained a lot of weight (blame it on my lifestyle and bad eating habits). When my weight touched 106 kgs, I pressed the panic button and started trying various diets and exercise regimes to lose weight and get fit.
After a lot of unsuccessful attempts with many popular diets, I stumbled on keto, and now its been 2 years since I commenced my weight loss journey and have successfully been able to maintain my weight at 80 kgs.
I started following the below keto diet in March 2018 and lost almost 20 kgs in 10 months. I also started exercising regularly from December 2018. After which, I lost the extra six kgs. Since then I exercise 5 days a week and do high intensity interval training and weight training.

I am sure most of you already know what a keto diet is but if you dont know, this is the easiest breakdown of a keto diet:
Being a vegetarian, it was difficult for me to follow this diet because all the traditional Indian foods that we eat such as roti, rice, paratha, idli, dosa and even tea are all high carb foods. To give them all up completely was difficult."
Breakfast (9:00 am): 2-3 eggs + spinach and avocado juice + bullet tea (without sugar and with butter)
Mid-day (11:00 am): Coffee
Lunch: (1:00 pm): Okra or cauliflower or paneer + cauliflower rice or sometimes roti made from flax seeds + a boiled egg or an omelette
Evening snacks (6:00 pm): A cup of tea without sugar and grilled paneer or a small bowl of strawberries, blueberries
Dinner (8:30 pm): Keto-friendly veggies with almond flour roti or cauliflower rice or eggs
It was tough to adapt to this diet but once I managed to get past the first 2 weeks, it was a wave. Once your body gets adapted to burning fat as fuel you will have no cravings for sweets or high carb foods. Before this diet I could not control hunger for even 2 hours but now I can easily manage without eating anything for 24 hours by only drinking water and coffee."
I follow an intermittent fasting pattern of eating to maintain my weight along with going to the gym regularly.

Walking is one of the easiest exercises that anyone can practice on a daily basis. Several health experts recommend brisk walking as an effective calorie-burning exercise for weight loss. But how much should you walk on a daily basis to achieve your weight loss goals?
Walk Briskly For 30-90 Minutes Daily
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends 30-90 minutes of fast-paced physical activity on most days of the week to achieve weight loss goals. In Total, walking 150 minutes per week should be your plan. You can choose to walk less on some days and more on the other days. And you are likely to gain additional health benefits upon performing more than 300 minutes of moderate-intensity exercises on a weekly basis. Also, in addition to moderate-intensityworkout like brisk walking, muscle strengthening exercises a couple of times every week is also recommended.
Apart from brisk walking, you could try other sorts of aerobic activities including bicycling, swimming, dancing, or playing basketball. These activities help you move your large muscles in a rhythmic manner for a sustained period of time. These are also called endurance activities which make your heart beat more rapidly and make your breathing rateincrease in order to meet the demands of your bodys movement. Over time, regularly performing such aerobic exercises make your cardiorespiratory system stronger and healthier.
See to that you walk fast enough and try to be in the moderate-intensity exercise zone at 60-70% of your maximum heart rate, says VerywellFit. Your breathing is heavier than usual, can speak in complete sentences but you cannot sing- such should be the speed at which you should be walking. You can use a fitness band or an activity tracking app to make sure you are walking at a moderate intensity.
You could also split your walking time into short walks of 10 minutes or longer. It doesnt matter how long each physical activity episode is, but what matters more is the total amount of moderate-to-vigorous activity.
The benefits of brisk walking for about 150-300 minutes weekly include lowered heart disease risk and type 2 diabetes risk.
Consistency is key
If you are new to walking, start with shorter walks and slowly and steadily build up your walking regimen. Try not to skip more than a day consecutively. Take a day off when you do not feel like it, but make sure to resume walking at the earliest. And after hitting your weight loss goals, it is essential to continue your walking regimen to maintain your weight.

Intermittent fasting has shown success in helping people lose weight, but some people can find it difficult to eat normally most days and then severely restrict their food intake other days.

A new study published in the journal Cell Metabolism offers an alternative time-restricted eating.
Time-restricted eating allows you to eat the same every day, but you limit the time during which you can have food to a 10-hour window. So, if your first meal is at 8 a.m., your last calories for the day will need to be consumed by 6 p.m. For the next 14 hours, you fast.
The new study is small, following 19 people for three months. At the time of enrollment, all participants met three or more criteria for metabolic syndrome:
Waist circumference of 102 cm (men) or 88 cm (women)
Triglycerides of 150 mg/dL or higher (or on drug treatment for elevated triglycerides)
Reduced HDL-C below 40 mg/dL (men), 50 mg/dL (women) (or on drug treatment for reduced HDL-C)
Elevated blood pressure, systolic blood pressure of 130 or higher and/or diastolic blood pressure of 85 mmHg or higher (or treatment with an antihypertensive drug with a history of hypertension)
Elevated fasting glucose of 100 mg/dL or higher (or drug treatment of elevated blood glucose)
Participants logged the timing of their meals and their sleep in the myCircadianClock app. They were encouraged to stay hydrated during their fasting periods.
"We didn't ask them to change what they eat,"NPR reported Pam Taub as saying. Taub is a cardiologist at the University of California, San Diego's School of Medicine, and an author of the study. Nonetheless, study participants consumed nearly 9% fewer calories.
In addition to weight loss a 3% reduction in weight and 4% reduction in abdominal visceral fat Taub said study participants cholesterol levels and blood pressure improved.
"We are surprised that this small change in eating time would give them such a huge benefit," Satchidananda Panda, a professor at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and a co-author of the study, told NPR.
"When you go into a fasting state, you start to deplete the glucose stores in your body and you start to use fat as your energy source," Taub said.

While the Sushi Size Me documentary has already started as of December 6th and will only run until the 12th it could have some interesting ramifications since the results could be something that people might be interested in. High school literature teacher and varsity basketball coach Leo Sanders decided to try and lose weight by going on an all-sushi diet, despite the fact that hes not really fond of sushi. That seems like something that could work since it would either be sushi or nothing, but it also feels as though it could be something that might be seen as harmful to the body considering that too much of anything can be a bad idea. Thankfully there are many different types of sushi so its likely that Leo could get away with doing this without really causing any harmful effects to his body. As B. Alan Orange of MovieWeb reveals the producer of this documentary actually threw in $1,500 for Leos meals, which is a pretty hefty sum but is also a lot of sushi when you really think about it. Hopefully he didnt go so far as to try any gas station sushi since that stuff tends to be kind of iffy unless the station has a good reputation with it.
Unlike the Super Size Me movie this might actually have a chance of catching on since its a guy thats going from eating unhealthy, or so it would appear, to eating healthy and trying to lose weight. Super Size Me was about a guy showing the dangers of eating McDonalds for every meal for a prolonged time, and while he was healthy going in he was anything but when the movie was over. The irritating part about this however is that whether a person wants to admit it or not there arent a lot of people that eat McDonalds for breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday. There are those that use the fast food chains as their primary source of food, but thinking that someone who can afford to eat healthy, and even those that are struggling to provide food for their families, eats in this manner day in and day out is a bit presumptuous. If anything, Super Size Me was a look at how unhealthy such a lifestyle could be if it was shared by a widespread number of people. While a lot of people do visit fast food restaurants quite often, those same people will also sit down to a home-cooked meal now and again as well. The idea of subsisting on fast food is pretty disgusting and the attempt to show what it was like really came off as more preachy and useless than informative and need-to-know.
Sushi Size Me does appear to be on the right track though since its about a guy thats trying to get healthy and lose weight and has picked a relatively good way to do so. Despite the amount of rice that hed be ingesting, which is a lot of carbs when you think about it, hes still staying active and sticking to the diet. The amusing thing is that he doesnt really like sushi that much, but its also impressive since hes sticking to what he said he would do and not going back on it. When you look at the number of ways that sushi can be made and what from however you get the feeling that hes not suffering all that much since a lot of sushi pairings look pretty good and even sound good. Some are a little less than a person might desire and some just look absolutely gross. Sorry, but fake crab in anything just sounds nasty since its really pulverized white fish and starch thats been made to look like crab. Those that eat this and mm its just like crab have either never had crab in their life or have faulty taste buds. Anyway, the selection of sushi and the ability to improve on it and play with the recipes a bit offers up a very wide assortment of different sushi rolls that Leo could consume. After a while though almost anyone could admit that sushi might get old and it might be time for something different. But if eating sushi and continuing to be active does the trick then it might be worth following for a while. Will it tempt people to try this once they see it? Maybe, but maybe not since not a lot of people were willing to trying the diet in Super Size Me considering how sick it was making the guy in the movie.
Sushi is an interesting food but eating just sushi and nothing else for so long could get kind of old and make the taste buds yearn for something else. But if it works its kind of hard to knock it.
