Jamie Oliver weight loss: TV chef ditched one food to shed an astounding two stone – Express.co.uk

Jamie Oliver is the TV chef who has fronted shows including Jamies 30-Minute Meals and The Naked Chef. He has focused on creating healthy and balanced meals throughout his career. The chef has also lost two stone of his own by changing his diet - what did he eat?

Speaking to Radio Times, he said: I pushed meat down, pushed veggie up, got more sleep and more movement.

Although he did not cut meat out completely, he explained swapping it for more vegetables helped him slim.

Eating meals full of vegetables and low in meat is clearly important to the chef and he recently released his vegetarian cookbook, Veg.

As well as well as changing meat for vegetables, he started adding more nuts into his plan.

DON'T MISS

He added: They make you half as likely to have a heart attack. Feed them to your kids as well.

Many people will snack on nuts as a healthy snack option, according to Heathline.com.

The website said: Though theyre usually high in fat, the fat they contain is a healthy type. They're also good sources of fibre and protein.

Many studies have shown that nuts provide various health benefits especially in regards to reducing heart disease risk factors.

Jamie didnt just change his eating habits when trying to get in shape and he said regular exercise and sleeping well helped him stay slim.

The popular chef also cut back on the amount of alcohol he would have and ditched it completely during the week.

Your average Brit drinks booze. Im not telling you what to do, but my rhythm now is only to drink at the weekend, he said.

Its about a consciousness and knowing youre doing something and being more mindful.

Counting calories is not the smartest (or easiest) way to lose weight – Toronto Star

What are some of the ways you can consume 100 calories? You can eat a container of low-fat yogurt, a piece of grilled chicken, a few French fries or a couple of bites of a chocolate bar. They all add up to 100 calories. But nutritionally, are they the same?

Of course not. Fact is, calories dont measure the nutritional value of food.

Think about all the ways you can consume calories. Some are healthy, and some are not. So a weight-loss program cant really just be about calories, says WW Canada (formerly Weight Watchers Canada) general manager Kevin OBrien. What weve come to understand is that calories are important, but so is satiation what will help you feel full. Are you eating foods that are nutrient dense so you stay strong and healthy without lots of peaks and valleys throughout your day? A well-designed program will track calories but also help you make food decisions that are nutritionally sound and help you feel full.

WWs new weight-loss program myWW uses the SmartPoints system, taking complex nutritional data and boiling it down to a simple, easy-to-understand number which is called the SmartPoints value. Every food and beverage is assigned a SmartPoints value, using calories as the baseline, says Camille Llosa, WW Canadas content marketing manager. Sugar and saturated fat increases the SmartPoint value of a food; protein lowers it.

Foods are assigned a number and depending on the myWW program plan, individuals are given a SmartPoints allowance each day and week. Foods lower in SmartPoints are often more satiating, helping you feel fuller for longer, which is an important issue when trying to lose weight.

SmartPoints have added advantages for dining out. While eating at home ensures youre making the right food choices to stay within your eating plan, its not reasonable to expect you wont be eating out occasionally. Assigning foods you eat in restaurants SmartPoints values is a relatively easy way to manage your weight-loss plan when dining out. Another way to optimize success is by planning ahead.

Here are some tips for planning for your restaurant meals:

1. Look at the menu online ahead of time. Establish a plan for what youll order and pre-track SmartPoints on your app.

2. Decide if you plan to use any weekly SmartPoints for a special dessert or drink while youre out.

3. Ask the server for details if you need more information about how your meal is being prepared.

4. Be creative about requesting special changes to your menu choices swapping out one side for another or ordering an appetizer instead of a full-size meal.

5. Reflect about how you did afterwards. Appreciate the hurdles you overcame and think about how you may do some things differently next time.

6. Check in with others on Connect or tips and ideas from other WW members.

Remember that eating in restaurants can pose challenges but it doesnt have to be difficult.

The beautiful thing about restaurant meals is that a few small edits to a meal can greatly increase how healthy that meal is. For example, skipping the French fries and adding an extra vegetable is an easy swap. And compared to going to a party, its a whole lot easier to plan ahead and stick to your plan at a restaurant, explains OBrien. And remember, you dont have to feel deprived, or guilty. Put it in the context of an overall healthy-eating approach. Its about finding that same balance in restaurants.

Weight loss: I lost 10st after getting so fat I got wedged in a seat on the Tube to work – The Sun

FEASTING on takeaways and eating treats in secret, Shelly Ribbons was in denial.

It was only when she got wedged in a seat on the Tube on her commute to work that she realised her weight had spiralled out of control.

5

She was travelling to work when she tried to get up at her stop.

But when she couldn't, she realised she was stuck between the seats.

Despite several tries, Shelly couldn't get up and too embarrassed to ask for help she ended up waiting for four stops before she could dislodge herself from the seat.

So horrified was she, at what had happened, Shelly vowed to overhaul her lifestyle and diet.

"When I tried to get up, I couldn't," she said.

"Commuters were sitting either side of me, meaning my fat had squished under the arm rests and I was wedged.

"I had to go four stops until one person got up and I was able to push my fat from under the arm rest and get out of the chair.

"To this day, even though I have lost over 10st, the seats with arm rests scare me as I still think I'm going to get stuck."

"I was totally mortified," she added.

5

5

"I promised myself there and then - after I cried my eyes out - that I would never buy any size 28 clothes again."

From that day, Shelly started to review her diet and watched what she ate.

She had never considered it before, feasting on regular takeaways and eating sugary treats throughout the day, often after scoffing two breakfasts.

I promised myself there and then - after I cried my eyes out - that I would never buy any size 28 clothes again

"Having a massive greasy takeaway was kind of the norm," she said.

"I can remember hiding food too. Eating things in private because then it didn't count.

"No one saw me eat five chocolate bars so it didn't happen, right?"

After leaving school and getting a busy job in the city, Shelly's weight just spiralled reaching 22st.

As the weight started to come off, with a healthier diet and more exercise, Shelly also signed up to Slimming World.

5

5

It was the turning point, she said, changing her attitude and relationship with food for good.

Now Shelly feels equipped to make healthier choices when eating out, and now loves exercising.

"My whole mindset has changed towards food," Shelly said.

"And my attitude towards exercise has changed too.

"I enjoy working out and am now ever so slightly competitive with myself."

Shelly now goes to the gym every day before work, and is taking on the London Marathon next April to raise money for the Rainbow Trust children's charity.

"I never ever thought I would say this, but I love exercise," Shelly said.

Offering words of advice to others who want to try and lose weight, Shelly said it's best to take it slowly and not try to rush the process.

"Stick with it and take it slow," she said.

"We all want that quick weight loss but I honestly think that losing it the way I have has meant I have kept the weight off.

"Don't let the scales completely control your life.

"Going down a dress size or just feeling healthier, look for the victories that don't involve the scales."

Weight Loss Tips: 3 Very Short Workouts That Work – Medical Daily

With all the countless internet write-ups, TV talk shows and magazine articles about it, youd think everyone of us would have it figured out by now. Alas, the subject of losing weight is still a tricky thing for many. And unfortunately, a lot of people still fail to achieve it. But its no reason to lose hope since the whole business of exercising and following a strict diet isnt a one-size-fits-all solution, although the general idea behind it is. Simply put, what works for you may not work for others and theres no shame in that.

So if youre still looking for that proper workout routine that would finally help you lose weight for good, here are three great ones to try.

Workout #1: Fat Burning Cardio

This is an intense workout that is split into three sections, namely intervals, lactic acid removal phase and a repeat of it. Heres what you do. First, start with a five-minute warm up. Then, do 10 intervals of 20 second sprinting at full intensity, followed by resting for 40 seconds. You can do this via a cross-trainer, bike or treadmill. Next, do a 10-minute lactic acid removal phase, where you do the workout on a similar cardio machine with the maximum intensity you can manage. This means that you should be out of breath and sweaty by the end of the workout. Once done, you may repeat as needed. However, mixing up the routine by using a different machine is recommended.

Workout #2: Full Body Fat Loss Circuit

This second workout includes six different exercises done for 45 seconds each, with a 15 second rest between each exercise. The exercises included are planking, kettlebell deadlifts, single arm dumbbell row, dumbbell bench press, mountain climbers and running on the spot. Once done, repeat the entire workout three more times.

Workout #3: Full Body Fat Loss Circuit

Same as the second workout, this is also a six exercises routine, comprising of 45 seconds for each exercise and a 15 second rest in between. This is done four times. The workout includes sit-ups, alternating lunges, mountain climbers, squat jumps, push-ups and kettlebell deadlifts.

The cessation of workouts and physical activity can worsen conditions such as depression, a new study finds. Jesper Aggergaard/Unsplash

‘I knew I had to lose weight when I couldn’t play football with the kids’ – Southend Standard

A FATHER is looking forward to playing football with his children again after his remarkable weight loss.

Matthew Riggs, 32, from Basildon, lost seven stone in just eight months through sheer hard work and determination after a friend urged him to get down the gym.

When he was at his heaviest 24 stone and nine pounds Matthew would fall asleep all the time, had no energy and couldnt even motivate himself to do anything with family and friends.

But what got to him the most was not being able to keep up with his seven-year-old son Harrison when having a kick-about in the park.

Matthew was at Harrisons football match in March, when his friend gave him some hard-hitting advice.

The father-of-two, said: I was at my sons football match and I was so out of breath just walking from one five-a-side pitch to the next.

My friend said to me come on mate, come to the gym with me, we need to get you in shape..

He went on to say you have two young kids, Harrison, three-year-old Emily, and a wife, the way you are going youre a walking heart attack..

This hit me hard as I was thinking about my dad having two heart attacks at 36 and 42-years-old.

I knew he was right, and I was coming up to the same age my dad was when he had his first heart attack.

Matthew felt embarrassed at thought of walking into a muscle-man gym and looking like the fat guy.

He added: I thought no way can I go in there, Im going to look silly.

Its hard to walk into a gym when youre the fat guy but I agreed to go along.

Matthew hasnt looked back since, and shed the weight by going to the gym every day for one hour, cutting out alcohol and junk food and making healthy meals which he says keeps him motivated.

Aaron Washer Update on My 600 Lb. Life – Heavy.com

FacebookAaron Washer's season 7 episode of "My 600 Lb. Life" airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET on TLC. Read on to see what Aaron's been up to since his episode premiered.

Aaron Washer is the subject of tonights season 7rerun episode ofMy 600 Lb. Life. The synopsis for tonights episode reads, Since the death of his mother, Aaron has lived at home to care for his aging father. But due to his food addiction, Aaron has to heavily rely on his father for help instead. Now, Aaron must learn to care for himself to avoid eating himself to death.

When we first met the Texas native, he weighed over 700 pounds and was primarily taken care of by his 76-year-old dad, Eugene. He couldnt get around without a cane and only took two long walks per day one to the kitchen and one to the bathroom. At the time, the reality star told the cameras that life is pure torture because Im in so much pain, so he decided to seek out the help of celebrity bariatric surgeon Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, commonly referred to as Dr. Now, to try to shed some weight and get his health back on track.

So whats going on with Aaron today? Since TLC is re-airing his episode tonight, fans might be wondering where he is now, and if he managed to lose anymore weight since he last appeared on the show. Heres what we know about Aarons life today:

My 600-lb Life -AaronMy 600-lb Life airs Wednesdays on TLC2019-03-20T01:23:02.000Z

Although Aaron moved back home to help care for his aging father, a disabled Vietnam veteran who struggled with his mobility, the roles ended up being reversed after Eugene was forced to help Aaron instead.

I do feel bad that I have to make my 76-year-old father do it all for me, Aaron says in the clip above. I worry that its going to be too much for my father at some point but it still doesnt stop me from having him [shop for me] because this is the only way to get the groceries I want.

Although Aaron starts his episode at 718 pounds, he manages to lose more than 300 pounds by the 11-month mark. He goes from relying on his elderly father to get him groceries and assist him around the house to losing enough weight to get his sleeve surgery. Aaron became one of the most inspiring subjects of season 7, and was understandably proud of his hard work.

Im really happy about my results and how the appointment went today, he told the cameras. And Im feeling really encouraged and confident right now about how well Im doing. I was a kid last time I was in the 300s, so to be practically there is exciting. And I cant wait to keep making more progress and to see all the things Im going to be able to do once I hit my target weight.

YoutubeAaron Washer, star of the hit reality series My 600 Lb. Life.

Even Dr. Now gushed about Aarons success, telling him how great it was that he was becoming more independent, and at one point expressing how proud he was of his accomplishments. Im proud of your progress, keep up the good work, he told Aaron during his episode.

Im very proud of Aaron, Dr. Now told the cameras during Aarons episode, explaining how resilient and determined the reality star was. His start was a little rocky but once we got him to wake up and to understand how dangerous his situation was, he got determined and started doing what he needed and hasnt looked back or slowed down at all. At this point, I have no doubt hes going to continue doing whatever he needs to do to get to his target weight soon and to make sure hes successful in the long run.

Aaron worked hard during his time with Dr. Now, and in the end, was able to lose nearly 50 percent of his initial body weight. By the end of his first episode, Aaron had lost a total of 315 pounds, for thefifth-biggest weight loss ofMy 600 Lb Life Season 7, according to Starcasm.

If you asked me a year ago if I thought Id be out doing all that I am, I would have said theres no earthly way, Aaron said of his weight-loss journey, adding that he can happily get out and walk all day and feels like he can accomplish all his goals. Its amazing to have this chance.

Although the reality star smashed all of his weight loss goals and began living a much healthier life, he sadly lost his father shortly after his episode aired earlier this year. On May 12, Aaron updated his now-defunct fan page on Facebook with the news of his fathers passing. As of 2 am this morning, Aaron wrote, my dad has been called back to the lord. Its not completely clear how his father died, but shortly before Aaron revealed that Eugene had passed away, he told fans that his father had been hospitalized due to a really bad infection in his foot.

Although Aaron is rarely active on social media, Starcasm shared another update on the reality star in August; according to the publication, Aaron reached out to fans a few months after his fathers passing to express his gratitude for the love and support he received, while also apologizing for his long absence. Aaron wrote that he was still coping with the loss of his father, but that he was dating a beautiful and wonderful woman and was still losing weight.

Hey everyone I know its been a while since Ive been on here and updated anybody its been hard since my dad passed a lot has happened i am now in a relationship with a very beautiful and wonderful woman she has brought light into my world that I thought I would never see. Im now working full time Im still losing weight really excited about that overall it been OK. Weight loss: Eating banana SKINS helps you shed pounds, beat the bloat & sleep better, expert reveals – The Sun

THE humble banana has been hailed a health superhero - due to its potassium-rich content.

And now, a top dietitian has now claimed that we should be munching on the yella fella's SKIN as well - to reap the health benefits.

1

Susie Burrell says that eating the fruit's peel can improve your sleep, enhance your skin and even boost weight loss.

She says: "Specifically, you will increase your overall fibre content by at least ten per cent as a lot of dietary fibre can be found in the skin of the banana.

"You will get almost 20 per cent more vitamin B6 and almost 20 per cent more vitamin C and you will boost both your potassium and magnesium intake."

Despite this, when it comes to eating banana skin, Susie does not recommend you just munch on the peel once you've finished its insides.

Instead, she suggests putting it in a smoothie, baked goods or a curry to boost your nutritional intake.

Writing in her blog, she adds: "Rather, cooking the skin to soften it will help to break down some of the cell walls within the skin, helping to make the nutrients easy to absorb.

"Next blending the skin into recipes or smoothies is the most practical way to use them.

"Here you will increase the volume and nutritional content of recipes with minimal change to taste and texture of the cooking."

Dishes that work well with banana skin included in them as well as smoothies are muffins, banana bread and curries.

And Susie also revealed that the particular banana skin you choose is important when thinking about the specific nutrients.

She says: "Specifically bananas with bright yellow skins have a higher proportion of antioxidants associated with anti-cancer effects while green skins (less ripe bananas) are particularly rich in the amino acid tryptophan which is associated with good sleep quality.

"Green banana skins are also rich in resistance starch, the special type of fibre known to benefit gut health.

The health benefits of a banana

Here, nutritionist Amanda Ursell tells The Sun why bananas are so beneficial when it comes to our health.

Kill a hangover:Bananascontain potassium - a mineral lost when we drink alcohol. It's important to replenish it quickly and potassium helps to maintain fluids in the body.

Beat stroke: Potassiumhelps to reduce the activity of blood platelets which cause blood to clot. Unwanted clots are responsible for a large proportion of all strokes.

Boost immune system: One medium-sizedbananaprovides around 25 per cent of our recommended daily vitamin C intake.

Fight cancer:Good and regular intakes of antioxidants alpha carotene and beta carotene have been associated with reducing the risk of lung cancer.

Lose weight:Bananasare rich in fibre - which will help to keep you fuller for longer - so they may fight obesity.

Fall asleep: The magnesium in bananas promotes better sleep and muscle relaxation, so eating one before bed could help you to nod off more quickly.

Healthy pregnancy: They also contain an impressive mix of B vitamins, including some folate. That is vital for pregnant women because it can reduce the risk of spina bifida in babies.

Boost brain: Again, this is down to the potassium, which helps to keep plenty of oxygen running through the brain.

Cut heart attacks: Bananas have been proven to help reduce the risk of a heart attack. They do this by reducing levels of "bad" cholesterol in the blood. This means your arteries don't get blocked.

Fight flu: This fab fruit also contains quercetin, a super-nutrient. The nutrient has been shown in lab studies to help kill off viruses such as the herpes simplex virus, which triggers colds and flu.

"As these skins are much tougher, they are definitely best consumed after boiling to soften the skins."

As well as their positive nutritional benefits, Susie points out that banana skins have several other practical uses in day to day life.

For example, she says cooking meat on top of them will help to boost the moisture content of any meal and they can help make a great vinegar.

It comes after it emerged eating bananas regularly can help prevent heart attacks and strokes.

Want Real Weight Loss? Here Are Three Things You Should Give Up – Medical Daily

Shedding a few pounds off, or losing weight, is a hard and oftentimes tricky business. Its for this reason that while many attempt their hands on it, few of those people actually achieve it for the long haul. Its unforgiving, and oftentimes demotivating and just well, plain tiring.

This then leads to developing a negative relationship with food, seeing it not as a joyful experience but an enemy that you have to constantly battle with. Most of the time, this mindset leads to self-punishment and over-restriction.

However, According to leading behavior change therapist Dr. Heather McKee, there are three things that you need to give up in order to actually achieve success when it comes to weight loss. Here they are:

Give up dieting

You heard us right. Give it up, let it go. According to research, 80 percent of diets fail in the first year, so dont be a part of that. Your body also doesnt want to lose weight that way and you will just fight it, which would result in stress. Rather, start eating smarter and incorporate a lot of whole foods in what you eat. Importantly, remember to never go overboard and keep it within appropriately-sized servings.

Give up punishing yourself via the scales

This is something that happens all too often with people trying to lose weight. You scale yourself at the start of the month, try your best to lose weight after, and then when you get back on the scale, realize that you havent lost any, or worse, youve actually added on some more. This is a negative mindset since being healthy isnt a numbers game. Following an all or nothing line of thinking will only discourage you. In most cases, it can even associate itself with happiness, meaning that you wont reach a certain weight.

Give up diets in disguise

This involves restricting yourself to eating small amounts of food in order to lose weight. So that includes even juice cleansing and detoxes. Instead, opt for whole-foods based diet that is consumed alongside regular exerciseconsistently because that will work more.

Obesity may occur because of genetics, family history, environment and medical conditions, among other reasons that affect body weight. Pixabay

How to lose weight according to a doctor who lost 53 kgs by following this systematic approach to weight loss – GQ India – What a man’s got to do

There are no shortcuts to lose weight fast and neither are there any magic hacks that will help you get ripped in a record-breaking time. Both these processes require time, effort and an occasional sweat in the gym, explicates doctor Dishant Malik, who at his heaviest weighed a whopping 130 kgs.

Being a doctor, I believe that it is my moral duty to advise not just my patients but also my friends and family to live a healthy life. But, when I, myself, was not living a fit and healthy lifestyle then what was the entire point of advising /explaining someone the benefits of good health? They wouldnt be convinced by me, he said . I wanted to be their example and not just give examples, he added before revealing the weight loss plan, diet and exercise regime that helped him trim from 130 kgs to 77 kgs in just 18 months.

Dishant followed a very systematic approach to weight loss, keeping the below point in mind.

1. "Stay motivated - Cultivating a positive mindset is one of the most important things to achieve any target or goal in life and weight loss is no exception to that. Since I knew I have a tendency to gain weight very easily, I kept reminding myself to not fall short on effort to lose weight.

2. Focus on what matters - Being focused on a particular target is of paramount importance too. There were days when I didn't feel like going to gym or follow my diet or even give into a late night sugar craving, whenever such a scenario arrived, Id look at my old pictures to realise and remember that I cannot lose focus at all.

3. Follow a proper schedule - I followed a proper training session along with a proper diet plan. Id also evaluate my progress every month. It proved to be a great source of inspiration.

4. Say a BIG no to cheating - Don't cheat on this plan, period (it will only do one thing hamper your progress).

I followed a low-calorie diet plan to shed my bodys excess fat in a healthy manner. Some of the low-calorie foods that I absolutely swear by are: almonds, peanuts, walnuts, oats, eggs (mostly boiled) and salads. But on a daily basis, this is what my diet plan comprised:

Breakfast: 2 slices of brown bread with peanut butter OR boiled eggs with 50 gms oats and 200 ml double-toned milk

Lunch: Brown rice + 200 gms boiled chicken breast OR boiled eggs and salad

Dinner: A salad made from red/yellow /green bell peppers + 1 small cucumber + broccoli, half a lemon + 1 bowl of pulses/ 200 gms boiled chicken

ALSO READ: 9 diet-friendly foods with ZERO calories to help you lose weight

I worked out for 3-4 days in a week. This exercise regime included a combination of weight training and cardio. Initially, I focussed only on cardio and high intensity interval training (HIIT) routines. They helped me lose weight but at the same time, I also dropped a significant amount of muscle mass. So, now I follow a good combination of cardio and heavy lifting (compound muscle training) to retain my physique. Besides this routine, I also indulge in kickboxing, yoga and other functional exercises on weekends.

ALSO READ: Five easy yoga poses that will make you feel like a million bucks

I have been able to maintain my weight by following a proper schedule and also be evaluating my progress from time to time. It is very important to keep evaluating your progress as no matter how small this progress is, it is A STEP FORWARD a step towards your betterment.

It is said that abs are not made in the gym, they are made in the kitchen. Hence, I strongly believe that diet is the most important part of any fitness regime. Losing weight is not easy, it takes effort and discipline. But if you are motivated and willing to take that extra step, nothing can stop you.
