Aetna aims to address health effects of loneliness among older people – Journal Inquirer

Aetna this month became the latest managed health care firm to take aim at social influences on health with a new line of programs meant to measure and combat the effects of loneliness and isolation among Medicare recipients.
The Hartford-based insurer, now a subsidiary of CVS Health, is rolling out a social isolation index it says can gauge customers likelihood of becoming solitary and cut off from family, friends, and society at large. The index, which is based on data from insurance claims and research into social health, will help identify particularly high risk Medicare beneficiaries, who can then be connected to specialized programs and community resources, Aetna officials said.
Social connection is a critical determinant of health for most people, but particularly for the Medicare population, said Robert Mirsky, chief medical officer for Aetna Medicare. We want our Medicare beneficiaries to be able to care for themselves or have reliable support, to be safe in their homes and communities, and to lead fulfilling lives.
This not only improves their quality of life, he said, but can also delay the development and progression of chronic conditions.
Aetnas newly unveiled Resources for Living initiative, available to all Aetna Medicare Advantage plan members and their caregivers, uses information gathered from the social isolation index to recommend opportunities for interaction. Those early intervention options include clubs, support groups, fitness classes, home visit programs, and transportation services, among other resources.
Mirsky said Resources for Living will tailor its support to customers level of independence, mobility, and overall health. More active members, for instance, may be referred to a senior travel group, while those who depend on frequent assistance from aides might receive information on home modification options and nursing home placement.
In addition, the company plans to add home visit options via Papa, an agency that connects college students with older adults who need assistance with transportation, house chores, and modern technology, as well as basic companionship.
Aetna also plans to continue its Silver Sneakers exercise program, which has locations at over 15,000 locations across the U.S., including gyms, community centers, and parks.
Aetnas new push to address the social and emotional toll of isolation and lonesomeness arrives on the heels of a company-commissioned study from 2018 that reported relatively high levels of solitude among Americans 65 or older. The report found that 24 percent of that population has no friends or family nearby, and 27 percent dont know where to go to meet new people.
Those statistics are particularly worrisome because an emerging body of research suggests loneliness has a measurable effect on the human body.
A 2017 meta-analysis of hundreds of loneliness-related studies by researchers at Brigham Young University found that social isolation was a stronger indicator of early death than obesity. A prior study from the same institution equated the cumulative impact of loneliness to smoking 15 cigarettes per day.
Aetna is hardly the first player in the insurance field to take a more critical look at loneliness.
Last year, Bloomfield-based Cigna launched a free, 10-question version of a social interaction index developed at the University of California at Los Angeles. That questionnaire is also being used to direct potential clients to activities that promote socializing, as well as mental and behavioral health resources.
A Cigna-backed survey launched in conjunction with the index made headlines at the time for reporting that one in five American adults polled rarely or never feel close to other people and that only 53 percent have meaningful, in-person social interactions, such as extended conversations, on a daily basis.

Letters to the Editor: Kudos on pool – The Baxter Bulletin

Letters to the editor(Photo: File)
I am again sending many thanks to all who managed the Cooper Park swimming pool programs this past summer. From Rick the manager, to Nick the assistant manager, to all the lifeguards who worked the hours to see that the pool had guards so that we, the public, could enjoy its benefits.
The pool brought great joy to all ages, from the very young, who enjoyed being taught how to swim, to us not so very young, who greatly enjoyed having the swim exercise programs(both morning and evening) and to all ages in between, who just wanted to come and enjoy having fun at the pool.
This year was an exceptional year at the pool because the management made it so. Im sure I speak for all who enjoyed it when I say a bigthank you and hope that you continue again next year. There is nothing better than to be greeted with the enthusiasm and warmness that the management expressed this past swim season in particular.
Thanks to the Mayor for realizing our swim facilities are a very important part of our park services. I hope that he will again know how important it is to operate the pool from, at least, Memorial Day through Labor Day, as is generally the timeline for all outdoor pools across the country.
We, of course, would like the timeline to be extended as the month of September is usually very warm. We also realize that the pool could not be extended due to lifeguards being scarce.
We would also like the powers that be to think outside the box and contemplate hiring more high school guards, some who only attend school half days and would be available for perhaps a shorter version of swim hours, such as from 3-7:30 p.m. It would give all a chance to enjoy the pool vies a vie children after school as well as lap swimmers coming from work and, of course, a swim exercise class which would please many, myself included.
My fondest dream is that we can find a few millionaires who would like to see a much needed indoor swim complex and donate to same. My vision is that it would be built right next to the hospital (a wellness opportunity) where it could be used for all sorts of activities including therapy for patients, high school swim teams and the public in general.
This town is becoming big enough to accommodate an indoor facility and the hospital grounds would be a perfect place to showcase it. Of course, this is my idea of thinking outside the box. What a wonderful wellness opportunity it would be for the hospital.
As a song goes If I were a rich man and another that someone sang many years ago youve got to have a dream, if you dont have a dreamhow you gonna have your dreams come true. This is my dream. Whats yours?

Do you ever wonder why the Democrats and some Republicans are so intent on impeaching President Trump? Do you suppose it could have to do with his promise to drain the swamp?
If any American cannot see through the lies and deceit going on in Washington, then I fear, they are part of the problem.
The devils plan to remove In God We Trust from what was once the greatest country in the history of mankind was so obvious during the Obama, Clinton, and Biden years, and, thanks be to God, many Americans realized what was going on and elected Donald Trump to the Presidency.
While President Trump may not be someone you would want to have dinner with, can we not honestly look at what he has accomplished rather than selfishly trying to destroy him and his family in any way possible?
Obviously, the swamp does need to be drained, and is it not time that the American voter seeks Gods guidance before voting in the next election? And if they cant do that, then I believe that they need the prayers of all Christians.

For Donald Trump, he thinks that the hate from the Democratic party in Congress is incredible?
For Democrats, there is no hate for Trump because it is the other way around, and that it is Mr. Trump who is causing the hate against the Democrats.
He simply misled Fox and Friends on that issue and the issue of the impeachment inquiry. But it is his own words that are the cause for concern much because there is too much hate on the right wing media side, especially the kind of bad rhetoric coming from Rush Limbaugh and from Fox News.
But Mr. Trump is the most hateful president we have ever had in the history of our republic.

The American people are tired of the Democrat/Socialist/Communist Party (DSCP_ wasting three years of time and money on their own corrupt political agenda. Their ideas on law are in line with what a Communist country would have.
Democrat Congressman Quigleysaid that hearsay (evidence based no on a witness' personal knowledge but on another's statement not made under oath) is better than the truth. And using hearsay is OK with them for their impeachment proceedings.
All the DSCP representatives who vote for impeachment should be voted out of office. They are not fulfilling their duties to the American citizen. All the things that need to be done are being neglected, so when it comes time to vote neglect the Democrats.
The only things they are after is power and control. How do you like the looks of their plan so far? Open borders, lawlessness, expanded abortion, healthcare for illegal aliens paid for by the taxpayer and it goes on and on.
We can't fund the programs we have now, so where is the money coming from? They don't know, we are just supposed to believe them. I guess if you want to be poor and controlled, vote them in, if not vote them out.
But in the meantime, pray for them, for us and our country. God bless America.

Reader's Digest sent me a free copy of their magazine hoping that I would buy a subscription.
According to them, most Americans want to have more gun control.
The more I read, the more I realized they are beating around the bush. What they really want is to make it impossible for me to have a gun.
Reader's Digest quoted surveys that support their views, if they want to get some real info why son't they go to Hong Kong or Venezuela and ask them about gun control.
If everybody in Venezuela had an AK-47 with a 30-round magazine, old Happy Hugo would be long gone.
The Second Amendment means nothing to the enlightened (do-gooders) because they know what is best for me. They are so much smarter than Thomas Jefferson.
There is no reasoning with the people that want to help me and save me because I don't understand sensible gun control.
If we just lock up all of the guns and turn all of the nuts loos, we will all be safe.

Carthage hospital offers information and a free dinner – NNY360

CARTHAGE As part of the hospitals Community Engagement Series and tying the presentations into the Blue Zone initiative, Carthage Area Hospital presented a free Diabetes Awareness dinner Nov. 20, in observance of National Diabetes Month.
Welcoming 40 attendees, foundation and marketing executive director Taylour Scanlin, pointed out diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States. She noted that programs like this one help eduction the public about ways to prevent and manage diseases.
We want to help keep you out of the hospital and reduce health costs, said Ms. Scanlin.
David Gunderson, program manager for care management program-health home, tied the evenings program into the hospitals participation in the Blue Zone initiative.
National Geographic did a study of five geographic locations worldwide where people live longer, healthier lives.
Commonalities of the regions include, eating a plant-based diet, moving manually, taking time to decompress, a belief in God and having a little wine with dinner, Mr. Gunderson said.
There are ways to improve your life, diet, exercise, learn to relax, change your mind set, he said. Prevention is the best medicine.
While attendees ate plant-based dinners of Greek salad, squash soup, rice and bean stuffed peppers and whole-wheat rolls, the speakers presented information on all aspects of prevention and treatment of diabetes.
Dr. Leilani Garcia, internal medicine and hospitalist program director, said Education is power.
The doctor explained that diabetes is a chronic disease characterized by high levels of sugar glucose in the blood due to the pancreas failing to make enough insulin or cells failing to respond properly to the insulin produced in the body.
She noted 30 million Americans have diabetes, 84 million have prediabetes although many do not know they have it. This year 1.5 million Americans were diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes causes more deaths than breast cancer and AIDS combined. She recommended testing through which a AIC of 6.5 or greater, a fasting plasma glucose greater than 126 or a two-hour or random plasma glucose greater than 200 is diagnosed as diabetes. It is recommended the adults be tested at least every three years starting at age 45 or more often if risk factors for diabetes are present such as family history or obesity.
The disease affects the entire body heart, kidneys, eyes, nervous system, skin and can lead to stroke, peripheral vascular disease, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease and recurring infections.
At least 65% of people with diabetes die of heart disease or stroke, said Dr. Garcia.
Therapy specialist William Blunden got everyone on their feet to stretch before relating how exercise can help control the disease.
He noted people in the Blue Zones tend to have less heart disease, diabetes and other health problems related to aging due in part to getting at least 30 minutes of exercise or activity each day.
Mr. Blunden said people in the Blue Zones also die quicker.
They live to the end, he explained. At age 90 they die in five years. In the United States it takes some people five to seven years to die.
He gave suggestions for getting more active, less sedentary lifestyle including to break up the 30 minutes of activity into three 10-minute segments, working at your own pace while following exercise programs on television or DVDs or to do the movements seated.
Dietitian Carly Draper, Director of Community Nutrition and Diabetes Education, talked about how nutrition affects diabetes.
She suggested utilizing a smaller 9-inch plate for meals which is divided in half with that side filled with non starch vegetables, half of the other side is for lean protein and the last quarter for whole grains.
Clinical pharmacist Christopher Bradley discussed medication used to treat diabetes. He stressed the importance of complying with the prescribed medication taking doses when and how instructed.
This event concluded the hospitals Community Engagement Series for the year but plans are in the works to continue the education series in 2020. For more information about the hospitals programs visit its website at http://www.carthagehospital.com.

Kayla Itsines Says Women May Be Missing Out on an Important Step at the Gym – POPSUGAR Health and Fitness Australia

It's common that when trainers hear "women" and "gym," they, on instinct, talk about how women shouldn't be afraid to lift. In fact, we spoke to Katie Crewe, CSCS, in a past interview, who specifically said that women generally don't work their arms enough. And a number of trainers have debunked the myths that weightlifting will get you bulky right off the bat purposely bulking up is extremely hard to do and that women need different equipment than men. They don't.
Kayla Itsines, SWEAT app founder and creator of the popular BBG programs, absolutely wants women to lift weights, but there's something else she urges them to do first. When asked what they should practice more of at the gym, Kayla told POPSUGAR that core stability and postural work are a huge part of fitness that they could be missing. She explained that "taking it back to the real basics in building the foundation" is important. Note: a strong core can manage back pain and keep your form intact while doing a variety of weighted exercises.
Kayla used the example of a house: "If you don't lay the foundation, what's going to happen?" Well, it'll crumble. Working on that foundation first, starting with the basics, and then building the house aka muscle is the best way to prevent injury. Kayla knows this from her own recent journey regaining strength after giving birth to her daughter, Arna, in April 2019. Kayla talks more about the process in detail here, but she was cleared seven weeks post-delivery by her doctor and began doing foundational work to prime her core and movements focussed on posture. Then, she eased her way back into her own BBG workouts and lifting weights. She started at beginner level post-baby, but now, through a slow progression, she's back to where she used to be.
"When you say, 'women' and then 'exercise,' trainers want to empower women to not be scared in the gym," Kayla said. "I think maybe if you asked me that a few years ago I would've probably said the same thing, but now that I've done all of this, and being a trainer for 10 years, I have the experience to say 'build that foundation before going into lifting weights.'" She advised ensuring that you can lift the correct way without injuring yourself prior to picking up the heavy dumbbells, and core stability is key for that.
Kayla recommended doing a lot of planks, side planks, and mobility work (transferring balls from side to side, for example), as well as band pull-aparts for posture. It's also important to take care of your body after workouts, especially due to the fact that it's common for people to slouch while sitting (thank you, desk jobs!). "A lot of women come to me like, 'My back's sore,' or 'My this is sore, my that is sore.' It's actually because the muscles are supertight," Kayla said.
Foam rolling your traps and your chest can alleviate that pain, she explained. And, along with foam rolling, stretching and targeting your core will help, too (here's a good place to start). "Building that strength [and] doing all those exercises helps correct posture, and then you're able to complete exercises and not feel so sore," Kayla said.
Moral of the story? Trainers who encourage weightlifting are completely in the right. Muscles are the very thing that keep you moving and they can bring all the confidence in the world if you're new to strength training, here's a four-week plan but don't build your house before making sure the foundation is solid enough to hold up the walls.

Give a closer look to the book stop the insanity written by Susan Powter – Times Square Chronicles

A correct book can really create a change in the mind of the people who is reading it, isnt it? Insanity
It is a term used for the multimillion-dollar food diet plan industry which is chiefly failing to help all the heavy weighted women to lose the weight eternally. Also, to the so-calledfitness industrywhich leaves out the unfit people. And to the women who hate the way they look and are unsatisfied with their looks.
According to Susan Powter, the prime reasons and principals upon which this book is based on are as follows-
Diets really dont work:
Why to skip the food which are not at all working in your favor but you love it the most, right? Well, many of the dieticians plan the diet for their customers and eliminate much of the food which they believe will work on reducing the weight. This is the misconception among the people and this is what Susan Powter cleared in her book.
Reduce the weight even after eating the high volume- low-fat foods:
Yes, it is absolutely possible and you can also see the outstanding results after following this diet and eating a high volume of the low fat-based food.
Exercise as much as possible to burn the fat:
Dont worry; exercising will not take much of your time. You just have to invest your time daily on excising and you can see the wonders more than expectation. It will not only burn the excessive fat in your body but it will also sufficiently oxygenate all the parts of your body as well.
On the other hand, she rejected the older idea of measuring the weight in terms of the clothes that do not fit you anymore. And the exhausting exercises instead she has appointed a number of innovative and creative ideas such as programming materials like booklets, audiotapes, andvisual learning guidesthat teaches an individual the technique of converting the ciphered food labels to plain text and easy to follow exercise techniques and tips to keep you motivated as well.
Thus Susan Powters book stop the insanity was quite influential to many of the people from all around the world and motivated numerous people to change their weight loss routine.

A Top US Immigration Official’s Threat To Fire Workers Who Leak Info Was Meant To Intimidate Whistleblowers, Union Says – BuzzFeed News

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services employees union said that an email sent by the agencys leader threatening to fire anyone for leaking information to the media was an illegal attempt to intimidate whistleblowers, according to a copy of a letter the union sent to Department of Homeland Security officials on Tuesday.
The acting leader of USCIS, Mark Koumans, sent the email to employees last week, telling them that as they regularly handle sensitive information, they need to guard it closely.
Koumans also said that recent unauthorized disclosures of sensitive, for official use only, and internal use only information by USCIS personnel to media outlets have brought this issue to the forefront.
He added that any staffer would be reprimanded and potentially suspended for two weeks for a first offense, another two weeks for a second offense, and terminated or removed from their job for a third leak.
The head of the union which represents more than 13,000 USCIS workers and the Government Accountability Project wrote to Koumans and the acting deputy director of DHS, Ken Cuccinelli, on Tuesday to raise their concerns with the language in the email.
The letter claimed that the directive from Koumans was intended to illegally intimidate whistleblowers from lawfully reporting ongoing abuses by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Koumans email, the letter explained, did not contain the necessary language to inform USCIS employees of their whistleblower rights.
That it is intended to chill employees from engaging in protected whistleblowing is demonstrated by the fact that the directive was issued just days after current and former USCIS employees publicly blew the whistle on significant misconduct, particularly concerning MPP the Migrant Protection Protocols or Remain in Mexico policy as well as a new policy ordering the deportation of asylum seekers to Guatemala, the letter stated.
The letter also pointed to an earlier claim by Cuccinelli, who was previously acting director of USCIS, that the agency had disciplined a number of leakers. BuzzFeed News requested details of the statement but did not receive a comment from USCIS.
USCIS messages to employees in the form of illegal gags and threats seek to, and likely will impede, the exercise of their whistleblower rights, said the letter. Employees reading their agencies rules will not know they have the right to contact Congress or the media to expose misconduct. Even employees who know their rights may be intimidated from speaking out of fear of violating agency policy.
Union officials are calling on USCIS to issue a corrected letter to the agencys employees, better detailing their rights as whistleblowers.
The agency has been on the forefront of the Trump administrations overhaul of the asylum system. In the past year alone, the administration has forced asylum-seekers to remain in Mexico for their cases to be heard in the US, barred asylum for those who crossed through Mexico, and, last Wednesday, began a program to deport those at the southern border seeking protection from Honduras and El Salvador to Guatemala.
USCIS officials, including asylum officers and others, have been pushed to administer all three controversial programs. BuzzFeed News first revealed the implementation of the program on Wednesday, Nov. 20. Later in the day, Reuters, which also reported the program starting up, posted training materials for asylum officers on the plan to deport individuals to Guatemala.
We want to get the publics attention on this, along with our representatives in Congress, in making sure that our agency follows the law, said Michael Knowles, an asylum officer and spokesperson for the National CIS Council 119.

Weight loss is a numbers game. The minute you shift your focus from the reflection in the mirror to the clothing sizes and inches youre dropping, you will be able to track your progress better. But you dont have to take our word for it, take 26-year-old Vishal Bhatnagar's a Growth and Strategy Consultant, whose obsession with numbers helped him chart the perfect weight loss plan to trim from 100 kgs to 83 kgs.
I am very fond of trekking, and would often embark on a spontaneous trek to the Himalayas. But over the years, due to my work-life lethargy and poor eating habits (resulted from not just the quality of food I was eating but also the quantity of food I was eating and when I was eating it), I gained a lot of weight, and ended up transforming myself from a slim and athletic individual to a chubby one. I weighed a whopping 100 kgs and my overall appearance had also started deteriorating as the months kept progressing, he says.
To give you a slightly better context, I looked like someone who was moving around with a tyre tube around his waist, he adds. One day, out of my love for the mountains, I decided to embark on a small but steep 5 kms trek in the Himalayas a route I had already conquered with ease in the past. But now, I gasping for breath every 50 metres, he elaborates.
By the end of this trek, I realised that I have lost all my stamina and am also in a very poor shape, physically. This realisation motivated me to get fit starting by losing weight. And, since I am from an analytics background, I decided to build my weight loss plan around tracking changes on the weighing scale. I weighed myself daily at the same time of the day (and still do). This was a very quantified approach to weight loss.
The thing is, weight loss is a fast process, but only if you do it right. Following the right diet and working out daily for an hour helped me lose weight (fast). And, what makes weight loss more interesting is that it is not a continuous process, it happens overnight. You keep your diet and exercise intact for 10 days, and on the 11th day, you will suddenly lose around 2-3 kgs. This is called the Whoosh Effect. Otherwise, on a daily basis +/-1 kg weight fluctuations happen that is not weight loss.
I lost 17 kgs in around two and a half months. During this period I was following the below diet along with one hour worth of exercises - five days a week. Post this time frame, I started lifting only weights to tone my body and build muscles.
Early Morning: 20 Cashews + 20 Raisins + 20 Almonds
Breakfast: 5 Egg Whites or 200 gms Boiled Chicken or 200 gms Tofu Cheese
Lunch: One Chapati/Rice along with a bowl Dal/Chicken Curry/Matar Paneer
Dinner: Green Salad
Apart from these four meals, I sipped on green tea or black coffee, every 2-3 hours and enjoyed a cheat day every fortnight.
QUICK READ: Heres how dry fruits and nuts can help you lose weight
My exercise regime was broken down into two parts. The first part only focussed only on weight loss and the second part focussed on bodybuilding.
So, for the initial months (2-3), I followed the below routine:
Cardio - 1 hour (running on the treadmill for 20 minutes + 20 mins on the cross trainer + 20 mins dedicated to cycling)
Basic weight lifting -
Monday - Chest and Abs
Tuesday - Back
Wednesday - Biceps/Triceps
Thursday - Shoulders
Friday - Thighs
Post losing weight, I started weight lifting full-time by following the same routine but with an increased intensity.
I have been able to maintain my weight by following my same workout regime and eating almost everything but keeping protein content ~140 gms a day as per my weight and overall calories count <=2200 Kcal.
Hit the gym right now and lower your calorie intake and track your weight daily. You will be happy to see that you are controlling your weight movement. I fainted the very first day of gym. But, adapted to it in the next 3 days. Everyone can do this! Also, I have always been a number-focused person, I think quantifying your progress motivates you to do more.

To breakfast or not break fast? – The New Indian Express

Express News Service
HYDERABAD : The debate around breakfast found a new lease of life recently after Hollywood actor Jennifer Aniston said in an interview that Intermittent Fasting was the secret behind her youthful looks. As part of that routine, the Friends star has a glass of vegetable juice only in lieu of a big, fat breakfast.
And its not only Jennifer Aniston. Celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and Nicole Kidman too are said to have sworn by this diet which involves a 16-hour fast and and 8-hour eating window. Though the 8-hour eating window can be followed any time of the day, most prefer to eat an early dinner and skip breakfast.
Not long ago, a report in The Guardian titled How Lobbyists Made Breakfast The Most Important Meal of the Day, the writer argued that it was a combination of fear of indigestion, religious moralisation and advertising that helped push the idea of breakfast as the most important meal of the day.And now, with the popularity of it rising, the importance of eating a large, healthy breakfast is under scrutiny again.
However, nutritionists in the city warn that giving up breakfast altogether might not be a good strategy in the long run. Says Zeenath Fatima, consultant dietician at Continental Hospitals, Skipping the morning meal can throw off your bodys rhythm of fasting and eating. When you wake up, the blood sugar which your body needs to make your muscles and brain work fully is usually low. Breakfast helps replenish it. If your body doesnt get that fuel from food, you may feel zapped of energy, and you will be more likely to overeat later in the day.
Nutritionist Mukta Patil believes that there is no one-size-fit-all strategy. She says: Any dieting strategy cannot and must not be generalised. Intermittent Fasting, like many other dieting trends, was coined for a specific purpose. While majority of the celebrities swear by it, it in itself is not the whole truth. Your body only understands caloric deficit for weight loss. It doesnt understand timing. In the end, what matters is the number of calories taken in, the source of calories and burning of those calories in order to lose weight.
Fitness expert Dinnaz says, Intermittent Fasting is not a sustainable model for weight loss. Weight loss, youthful looks etc. are all linked to input and output. The math is very simple. To lose weight, one has to eat less or burn more. When you follow this simple formula, you will never need to look at any other option. Eating nutritious food is more important than the timing of the food.
What about religious fasting then? Dinnaz explains: Intermittent Fasting has also come about from our ancient customs of fasting during certain holy days. That is absolutely great and healthy too, as one is doing it for a day or a particular period. On a regular basis, if one is skipping breakfast, they are depriving the body of a lot of nutrients which are required to kickstart your day and provide you with energy. I dont suggest you do this on a regular basis.
Mukta too warns that Intermittent Fasting might not be a sustainable way to lose weight. Many claim that IF increases their fat loss rate. This could be true in the initial days, but it cannot last long. Soon before you even know, the body will adapt to it and will not show fat loss. In fact it may lead to many other health issues like giddiness, acidity, loss of appetite and even fat storage. The only advantagethe celebrities here have is pushing their eating window further ahead in the day, thereby cutting out one meal and having two large meals. This is particularly helpful in sticking to a diet when in caloric deficit.
What isIntermittent Fasting?Intermittent fasting involves fasting every day for 12-14 hours, and restricting your daily eating window to 10-12 hours. Within the eating window, you can fit in two, three or more meals. Doing this method of fasting can actually be as simple as eating early dinner and not skipping your breakfast. For example, if you finish your last meal at 7 pm and then dont eat until 9 am the next day, then you are technically fasting for 14 hours between meals and giving a kick start to the day with a healthy breakfast.---- Zeenath Fatima, dietician at Continental Hospitals
